Doug Garrett

WALHALLA -- Charles Douglas Garrett, 69, of 175 Willow Lane died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Born in Oconee County, he was a retired maintenance technician with Avondale Mill, attended the First Baptist Church of Walhalla and was a long-time member of the Oconee Cattlemen's Association.

Surviving are brothers, Warren Garrett of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Claude Garrett Jr. of Walhalla; sister, Mildred Hyde of Walhalla.

He was a son of the late Claude Alexander and Bertie Brown Garrett. He was preceded in death by sisters, Nell G. Bentley, Louise G. Adams and Savilla Mae Corder.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Davenport Funeral Home chapel with burial in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am. Saturday at the funeral home. Family members will be at their respective homes. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Walhalla Fellowship Building fund, 403 E. Main St., Walhalla, S.C. 29691.

Elizabeth Hill

Sept. 22, 1915 -- Sept. 8, 2004

WILLIAMSTON - Elizabeth Snipes Hill, 88, of 205 Belton Drive, widow of Woodrow "Woody" Hill, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Calvin and Nannie Hughes Snipes. She retired from Deluxe Cleaners and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Don Autry of Williamston; daughter, Suzanne Hill of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren, Kevin Autry, Robin Berry and her husband Buddy; and great-grandchildren, Bryce Berry, and Taylor Berry.

She was predeceased by brothers, Ansel Snipes, and Bud Snipes.

Funeral services will be 3:30pm Friday at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer with the Rev. Carolyn Malphrus and the Rev. Karen Radcliffe officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family is at the home and will receive friends 2-3:15pm Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Fay Jameson Martin

GREENVILLE, SC - Fay Jameson Martin, 90, widow of Calvin Sanford Martin, of 28 Tindal Avenue, died September 8, 2004.

Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Jeter Boyd and Mamie Orr Jameson.

Surviving are her grandchildren, Russell Bach of Crown Point, IN, Tim and Daniel Bach, both of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Lori Ann Boyer of Raleigh, NC. She was predeceased by a son, Charles Tim Martin; a daughter, Peggy Martin Bach; and twin brothers, Leo and Waco Jameson.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Graceland West Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. at the Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.

Lucille Cobb

May 13, 1916 -- Sept. 6, 2004

SENECA -- Lucille Henderson Cobb, 88, of 1066 Stribbling St. died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Brian Center in Brevard, N.C.

Born in Oconee County, she was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Westminster.

Surviving are daughters, Birtie Gaines of Seneca, Shirley Smith of New York and Brenda Sue Cobb of Greenville; sons, William Cobb of Hartwell, Ga., Charles and Lonnie Cobb, both of Greenville, Calvin Cobb of Seneca, Grady Cobb of Baltimore; sister, Selma Reeder of Seneca; brother, Leonard Henderson of Seneca; 37 grandchildren; 91 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Booker T. Cobb and a daughter of the late Eugene Presley and Mattie Vandiver Henderson. She was preceded in death by daughters, Heppie Earle and Costina Keese Earle; brothers, Curt, Bus, Eugene and B.F. Henderson.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Westminster, with the Rev. Edward Scott presiding; interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday. There will be no wake. The family is at the home. Gilbert Funeral Parlor of Seneca is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Charles E. Williams

Jan. 12, 1919 -- Sept. 8, 2004

ANDERSON, SC -- Mr. Charles Ernest Williams age 85, of 320 Whitehall Road, Anderson, SC, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at his residence.

Born in Drakin, Massachuettts on January 12, 1919, Mr. Williams was the son of the late Edward Ervin Williams and Elgie Etter Williams. He was a former manager at KFC Restaurant in Manning, SC and worked as a meat cutter in many locations. He was a United States Army World War II veteran having served in Europe and was a member of the American Legion Post in Newberry, SC. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by sons, Charles Frederick Williams and his wife, Angela of Lexington, SC, Michael Jefferson Williams and his wife, Edith of Lexington, SC and Steven Scott Williams of Indiana; daughters, Sharon Kay Wotherspoon and her husband, Richard of Elgin, SC and Diane Williams of Anderson. Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Kate Kennedy Williams whom he married in the fall of 1947.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Schatizie Caldwell. A committal service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday at Newberry Memorial Gardens in Newberry, SC.

The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 10, 2004.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Myrtle Sears

June 11, 1921 -- Sept. 8, 2004

PENDLETON -- Myrtle Virginia Sears, 83, of 268 S. Elm St. died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Brookside Nursing Center.

Born in Anderson, she was retired from Anderson Independent-Mail and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pendleton.

Surviving are her son, Paul Sears of Pendleton; daughter, Frances Sears of Anderson; stepmother, Laura Ellen Richardson of Pendleton; brother, Kenneth Jack Anderson of Texas; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Clint Sears and a daughter of the late Charles Leon Anderson and Annie Welch Anderson. She was preceded in death by a son, David Sears; and brothers, Charles Anderson and Billy Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at The McDougald Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Courtney Krueger and the Rev. Jimmy Cox officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens in Clemson. The body is at the funeral home, where visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday. The family is at the home of her son, Paul Sears, 268 S. Elm St., Pendleton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1000, Chicago, IL 60611-1676 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 10794, Greenville, SC. 29603.

Ray Hopkins

Raymond T. "Ray" Hopkins Jr., 75, of 108 Henry Ave., Anderson, husband of Betsy Ross Hopkins, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

The family is at the residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel.

Wallace Littleton

CATEECHEE -- Wallace Eugene Littleton, 54, of 318 N. Church St. died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Palmetto Health Baptist.

Born in Pickens County, he was formerly employed by Sauer-Danfoss, and also Ohio Gear. He was a member of the Tate Masonic Lodge 292 AFM, and was a former member of the Central Rescue Squad.

Surviving are his daughter, Mikki Pirkle of Easley; brother, James C. "Bud" Littleton of Norris; sister, Doris Flanagan of Norris; two grandsons; and two step grandchildren.

He was a son of the late Jack Littleton and Vera Herd Littleton Wood.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 3:15 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty Mortuary. The family will be at the home of his daughter, 203 Washington Ave., Easley, S.C. 29640.

Cathy Gilliam

Nov. 14, 1962-Oct. 7, 2004

STARR, SC - Cathy Elaine Gilliam, age 41, of 625 Farmer Street, Starr, SC, widow of Jimmy Gilliam, died Thursday, October 7, 2004 at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born on November 14, 1962 in Anderson, SC, Mrs. Gilliam was a daughter of James Blackwell of Iva, SC and Betty Brown Davis of Starr, SC. She was a homemaker and attended Redemption Outreach Baptist Church.

Mrs. Gilliam is survived by a son, Joshua Gilliam of Anderson, SC; two daughters, Christy Gilliam of Anderson, SC and Nicole Gilliam of Starr, SC; two brothers, Tony Blackwell of Starr, SC and Marty Blackwell of Iva, SC; three sisters, Bonnie Sorrow, Dale Willis, and Shirlon Crocker all of Anderson; her fiance, Robert Wayne Nicholson of Starr, SC; two grandchildren, Daniel and Shane Strickland; and a grandfather, Allen Brown of Starr, SC.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gilliam was preceded in death by her stepfather, Floyd Davis.

Funeral services will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, October 10, 2004 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Sam Duncan and Rev. David Neal officiating. Interment will follow at South Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home where the family received friends on Saturday, October 9, 2004 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

The family will be at the home of her mother, Betty Davis, 300 Hamby Road, Starr, SC. THE MCDOUGALD FUNERAL HOME, Anderson is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Lloyd Capps

WESTMINSTER - Clarence Lloyd Capps, 57, of 304 Chickasaw Dr., died October 8, 2004 in Seneca.

Born in Conway, SC on August 9, 1947, he was the third child of Clarence Lloyd Capps Sr. and Paulien Johnson Capps. After graduating from Hanahan High School, he served in the United States Air Force for six years. He returned home to Charleston, where he attended Trident Technical College in Charleston. He was later employed by the Department of the Navy at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He retired early as a Supply Department Computer Operator in 1995 after 25 years of service. He moved from Charleston to Chickasaw Point in Westminster in 1999. hE worked as a Security Guard at Chickasaw, was a Greeter at Wal-Mart, and volunteered at Our Daily Bread. He was a member of the Friday Afternoon Bowling League in Seneca and suffered a heart attack on his way home from bowling.

Mr. Capps was an active member of South Union Baptist Church. He sang in the choir, taught a children's Sunday school class, worked with the Youth Program as a counselor and was recently elected as a Deaon.

Survivors include: sister, Clara Wilks and husband Jim of Fair Play, SC; brothers, Gene Capps and Annette Hancock of Charleston and Ray Capps of Orlando, FL., Danny Caps and Anthony Minichiello of Longwood, FL.; aunt, Edna Tatem of Hanahan.

His parents, Clarence Lloyd and Pauline Johnson Capps Sr. preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, October 10, 2004 at South Union Baptist Church in Westminster. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family is at the home of Jim and Clara Wilks, 120 Fendley Lane, Heritage Shores, Fair Play.

WESTMINSTER - Cullen James Smith, 88, of 100 Sunshine Circle, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004 at Hospice of the Upstate, Anderson.

Erna Russow

PENDLETON, SC - Erna Russow, nee Burmeister, died at the age of 92 on October 8 in the Anderson Area Medical Center. Erna, of "Ennie" as she was known to friends and family, was fun-loving and devoted to her family. She was the widow of Dr. Erich Russow, and mother to five children.

Ennie was born in Germany in 1912. She and her future husband fled Germany in 1936 and married in England in 1936. They moved to New York, where they lived until 1975. They resided in Ridgefield, CT from 1975-1982, and moved to Pendleton, SC in 1982.

Ennie was accomplished in many of the needle arts, and was a long time member of the Embroiders Guild of America. She enjoyed traveling, both in the US and abroad, and cooking-especially the baking of her native Germany.

She is survived by five children: Stephen Russow of Pendleton, SC; Elaine, CO; Eric Russow, Peoria, IL; Lilly Russow, West Lafayette, IN; and Lloyd Russow, Philadelphia, PA; ten grandchildren as well as numerous great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in her memory to your favorite charity.

ANDERSON - Larry Phillip Stowers, 40, of 619-A East Orr St., died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 at his home.

Mayzelle Wilson

Nov. 18, 1906 - Oct. 9 2004

SYLVA, N.C. - Ida Mayzelle P. Wilson, 97, of Mt. Trace Nursing Home, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004 at Mt. Trace Nursing Home, Sylva, N.C.

Born in Georgia, she retired from Appleton Mill, where she was a weaver. She was also a member of Oakwood Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are sons, Douglas Wilson of Perry, Ga., W. Connie Wilson of Anderson, S.C. and Gary Wilson of Jonesboro, Ga.; daughter, Terri W. Aldridge of Whittier, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Curry Lee Wilson and the daughter of the late William T. Powell and Alice Andrews Powell. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Sarah W. Osborne and Sybil Lee W. Griffith; five brothers, William F. Walter, William M., Robert and Albert Powell; and two sisters, Nealie P. Wilson and Susie Belle Powell.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel, Anderson, by the Rev. John M. Daniel; burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson. The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Monday.

Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, S.C. 29615.
