April 5, 1947 -- Nov. 12, 2004

ANDERSON -- Larry James "Butch" White, 57, of 5137 Slater Road, widower of Carolene Sanders White, died Friday, November 12, 2004, at his residence.

He was born in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was a graduate of Clemson University with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry. He was self-employed specializing in MG 5 Speed Imported Transmissions, and performed Restoration of Antique Cars.

He was the son of the late Lawrence Boxley and Evelyn Arlene Voller White.

Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Ellen White Lockhart and husband, Thomas of Simpsonville, and Marjorie Arlene White of Simpsonville; one brother, Robert Floyd White of Huntsville, Ala.; one sister, Sandra Kay White Wardlaw of Columbia; his fiance, Carol Ferguson of Anderson.

Funeral services will be at 3 P.M. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. Steve Corts. Burial will be in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The body is at the Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Saturday. The family is at the residence.

Flowers are omitted. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Madge Bryant McCoy

July 1, 1917 -- Nov. 11, 2004

STARR -- Mrs. Ada Madgelyn Bryant McCoy, wife of the late Herbert L. McCoy, of Anderson Place, formerly of McCoy Drive, Starr, SC, died Thursday, November 11, 2004 at Hospice of Anderson, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born July 1, 1917 in Iva, South Carolina, Mrs. McCoy was the daughter of the late Lonnie Bryant and the late Magnolia Evans Bryant. She retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas and was a founding member of Unity Baptist Church of Starr.

Surviving are daughters Lynda Hempel of Nampa, Idaho; Janis Martin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Julie McCoy of Belton and Kevin and Terri McCoy of Anderson; grandchildren Steve Hempel of Juneau, Alaska, Heather Hempel of Caldwell, Idaho, Nick and Katie McCoy of Belton, Megan and Molly McCoy of Anderson, Hank Martin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; great grandchildren Jada and Jamie Harris of Caldwell, Idaho; brothers George Bryant of Abbeville, Austin Bryant of Iva; sisters Judy Vanuk Putnam of Anderson, Lizzelle Ellis of Calhoun Falls; stepbrother, Clarence Compton of Anderson; stepsisters, Hazel Parham of Elberton, GA and Helen Burdette of Anderson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by stepmother, Annie Compton Bryant; brothers, Richard, Reedy, Broadus, Archie and Gerald Bryant; sisters, Mable Crittendon and Betty Ross; stepbrothers, Charles and J.D. Compton; and stepsister, Cleo Garrett.

Pallbearers will be Nick McCoy, Danny Ross, John Ross, Sonnie Haguewood, Joe Sherer and Joe Vanadore.

Services will be 1PM, Monday, November 15th in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd Robinson officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

The family will be at the home of a son, Kevin McCoy, 5116 Westwind Way, Anderson.

Michael Randall, Jr.

Nov. 9, 2004 -- Nov. 10, 2004

WILLIAMSTON -- Michael John Randall, Jr., infant son of Michael John Randall, Sr. and Greta Ann Vickery, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004.

His parents are members of Faith Fellowship Ministries in Williamston.

In addition to his parents of the home, he is survived by brother, Dameon Blue Dickson of the home; sisters, Tara Brezak of Simpsonville, Maddison Carter of Williamston; grandparents, Clarence Edward and Barbara Ann Roach of Belton, Carol Randall, Donald Patterson, both of Youngstown, OH, Jerry and Ann Gillespie of Williamston; great grandmother, Loriece Gambrell of Belton; aunts, Lynn Wangler, Christy Patterson; and uncles, John Roach, Tom Randall, and Kenny Patterson.

He was predeceased by great-grandparents, Johnny Gambrell, Helen White, Oliver Randall, and Marie Randall.

Funeral services will be 2pm Monday at Faith Fellowship Ministries with the Rev. Phillip Clardy officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and will receive friends 7-8:30pm Sunday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Mr. Roger F. "Rip" Miller, Sr.

Dec. 5, 1916 -- Nov. 10, 2004

PENDLETON, S.C. -- Mr. Roger Foster Miller, Sr., age 87 husband of Joan A. Meyers-Miller of 354 Harper Road, Pendleton, SC, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at the Hospice House in Anderson, SC.

Born in Mount Bethel, PA on December 5, 1916, Mr. Miller was the son of the late Joseph E. Miller and Margaret Houck-Miller. He graduated from Bangor High School, Bangor, PA in 1933. At that time, Mr. Miller was an accomplished musician and was traveling with Lou Stanley and the Nighthawks Orchestra. He went on to play with Johnny Long and the Les Brown Orchestras for the debuts of Doris Day and Frank Sinatra. He also played with the Joe Resetar Orchestra for 20 years, Park Frankenfield, Ken Brader Jr., and local concert bands such as Triple City, Charlie Knecht, Vince Patinelli and Charlie Perello. He played 20 years during the summer at Vacation Valley Resort in the Poconos (PA) under the direction of Clement Wiedenmeyer. He also played with the Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians at Shawnee on the Delaware. Mr. Miller attended West Chester College for his musical aspirations. He retired from Orr's Department Stores as Buyer/Manager of Easton, PA, Bethlehem, PA and Warren, NJ after 30 years of service and the Easton Express Times after 18 years of service at the age of 82. Mr. Miller was a member of The Easton Masonic Lodge as Worshipful Master, the Easton Musicians Union Local-379 AFM where he served as president for 14 years, the Bangor-Stroudsburg, PA Musicians Union Local 577, the Tall Cedars of Easton and the Shriners. He enjoyed fishing, flying and hunting. He attended Cornerstone Assembly of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Wise and 3 brothers, Frank Miller, Joseph Miller and Claude Miller, Sr.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 49 years are his eight children, daughters, Donna LeFrancoise and her husband Gilles of Marshville, NC, Melanie Akins and her husband, Gary of Easton, PA, Michelle Joan Miller of the home; sons, Roger Foster Miller, Jr., of Waymart, PA, Jeffrey D. Miller of the home, Craig S. Miller and his wife, Linda of Saylorsburg, PA, Shawn C. Miller of Grand Canyon, PA and Sherwin J. Miller and his wife, Stacy of Easton, PA. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2004 at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Keith Hare.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, November 13, 2004 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

Flowers are accepted. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of the Upstate, 521 North McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29621 or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

The family will be at the residence, 354 Harper Road, Pendleton, SC.

Newonna 'Wanda' Mae O'Neal Davis

Dec. 1, 1963 -- Nov. 9, 2004

ANDERSON -- Newonna "Wanda" Mae O'Neal Davis, 40, of 812 Eastwood Ave. died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Greenville, she was a member of Mount Calvary Interdenominational Church, the pastor's aide, primary Sunday school teacher and was employed by Electrolux.

Surviving are widower, Horace Davis Jr. of the home; daughters, Nicole and Natasha Davis, both of Anderson; parents, Donnie and Carrie Cox O'Neal of Travelers Rest; sisters, Felicia O'Neal of Greenville, and Valarie Neal of Travelers Rest.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Donnie O'Neal Jr.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Calvary Interdenominational Church; burial will be in Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home Inc. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The family will be at the home of her mother-in-law, Bishop Odis Davis, 108 Meadow Acres, Belton.

Reid Owen Watson

Jan. 4, 1917 -- Nov. 11, 2004

SENECA -- Reid Owen Watson, 87, of 864 Whitworth Circle died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Brian Center in Brevard, N.C.

Born in Newry, he was the son of the late Burt Reid and Ida Jeanette Owens Watson. He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Steven Watson; and by two brothers, Furman and Herman Watson.

He was a member of Bountyland Baptist Church and worked with Wigington Auto Parts and Anderson Auto Parts for many years as a salesman and manager.

Surviving is his widow, Marie Becknell Watson of the home. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oconee Memorial Park by the Revs. Bill Ellison and Steven Pearson. The family will receive friends following the service.

The family is accepting flowers and memorials may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, S.C. 29672.

Sara Vandiver Green

ANDERSON --Sara Vandiver Green, of Anderson Place, wife of the late Fred E. Green, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson.

The family will be at 104 Postelle Drive in Anderson.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by The McDougald Funeral Home.

The Rev. Alonzo William Holman

CHARLESTON -- The Rev. Alonzo William Holman, of 1850 Stonehedge Drive died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004.

He was the husband of Gerald E. Holman and the brother of Mary Tarver.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at Emanuel AME Church, 110 Calhoun St., Charleston. The body will be placed in the church 6 p.m. Sunday where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The body will be on view at 9 a.m. Monday at the church.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Emanuel AME Church, Elevator Fund, 110 Calhoun St., Charleston, S.C. 29403 and the Kidney Foundation of South Carolina, 500 Taylor St., Suite 101. Columbia, S.C. 29201. Entombment in Live Oak Memorial Cemetery, Hwy. 61, Charleston.

William Douglas Brewer

WEDGEFIELD -- William Douglas Brewer, 70, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late William Sutton and Anabel Logan Brewer. He was twice married. He grew up in Walhalla. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951, serving for 6 years during the Korean War. He worked as a firefighter and crash rescuer for Lockheed of Greenville for a number of years. He later move to Wedgefield making a career as a civil service employee at Shaw Air Force Base, working as a firefighter and crash rescuer for Shaw AFB and Poinsett Bombing Range until his retirement.

Surviving are daughter, Karen LeAnna Brewer of Clayton, Ga,; sons, Matthew Douglas Brewer of Tiger, Ga., and John Douglas Brewer of Virginia; and his sister, Elizabeth Cox of Seneca.

Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday at Bullock Funeral Home chapel, 1190 Wilson Hall Road, Sumter, S.C. 29150; burial with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, S.C. 29210.

William E. Symons

Jan. 11, 1904 -- Nov. 11, 2004

ANDERSON -- William Ellis Symons, 100, of 201 Edgebrook Drive, Apt. 108, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, Ind., he retired in 1969 after living in Germany and working for Radio Free Europe as radio transmitter director. He was also the first amateur radio operators in Anderson, Ind. He was a former member of the I.B.E.W. Union and was a Mason and Scottish Rite Shriner. He was an accomplished violinist and formerly played in the Vauderville Orchestra.

Surviving are his son, Jack Symons of Anderson; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was the widower of Mary L. Spence Symons and was the son of the late Matthew M. Symons and Alice Harbin Symons. He was preceded in death by one son, William Ellis Symons Jr.

No funeral services are planned at this time.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, S.C. 29621 or Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 285, Anderson, S.C. 29622.

Alease Rice

CENTRAL, SC -- Alease Whitefield Grant Rice, 86, died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at University Nursing and Rehab Center in Athens, Ga.

A native of Townville, she was the daughter of the Frank and Kizzie Holden Whitefield. She was a beautician and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors: sons, Troy D. Grant of West Union, SC and Bobby Ray Grant of Columbia, SC; brothers, Larry Whitefield of Seneca and Dan Whitefield of Anderson; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two husbands, Woodrow Grant and Claude Rice; son, Harold Grant; and a daughter, Doris Rampey.

Graveside services will be Monday at 2 PM at Memory Gardens in Clemson. The body is at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends on Monday from 12:30-1:30 prior to the service.

Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons is assisting the family with arrangements.

Anna Gladys Garrett Pushard

BELTON -- Anna Gladys Garrett Pushard, 88, widow of the late King S. Pushard, of the Maples, formerly of 404 Myrtle Ave. died Friday, November 12th at Anderson Area Medical Center.

She was born in Anderson County and was the daughter of the late John Claud and Ella M. Cobb Garrett. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She attended Belton High School; graduated Magna Cum Laude from Winthrop University; and earned her Masters in Mathematics from Duke University. She was a Mathematics Teacher at Belton-Honea Path High School, retiring in 1981.

Surviving are: her daughter, Mrs. Nan P. Parrish of Middleburg Va.; granddaughters, Elizabeth Parrish and Meredith Parrish; nieces, Claudia Garrett, predeceased, Meg Byars, Ann Diacsuk, and Emily Shannon; grand-niece, Nicole Shannon; nephews, John Garrett, James C. Garrett, and Skipper Hill.

Graveside Service 2:00pm Tuesday at Belton City Cemetery with Rev. Dale Lynch and Dr. Booker Bagby officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:30pm Monday at Cox Funeral Home.

Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Paralyzed Veterans of America.

The family will be at there respective homes.

Cox Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
