Nov. 24, 1918 -- Nov. 13, 2004

NEWBERRY -- Evelyn Sease Boozer, 85, of Springfield Place died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born in Newberry County, she was a member of Newberry A.R. Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are son, Kenneth G. Boozer of Anderson; sister, Margaret Hanna of Newberry; and two grandchildren.

She was the widow of R. Granville Boozer and the daughter of the late Jacob E. and Lee Ora Lominack Sease. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Driggers.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Tony Locke; burial will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Newberry A.R. Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 1701 Main St., Newberry, S.C. 29108.

James Johnson

CALHOUN FALLS, SC -- James William "J.W." Johnson, age 78, of 617 Barnwell Street, Calhoun Falls, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 13, 2004 at his home.

Born in Elbert County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Jimmy Johnson and Allie Jones Johnson. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was retired from Burlington Mills, and attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Calhoun Falls. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his son, Larry Johnson; great granddaughter, Nicole Newton; sisters, Virginia Moss and Hazel Evans; and brothers, Ralph Johnson and Haskell Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Syble Moss Johnson; sons and daughters-in-law, Mikey and Ruby Johnson of Calhoun Falls, SC and Ricky and Carolyn Johnson of Abbeville, SC; his granddaughter, Chari Ridgeway who was raised in their home; 8 other grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Frankie Johnson; and sister, Rachael Worley, both of Elberton, GA.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 15 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 16 at 2:00 PM at The Church of God of Prophecy in Calhoun Falls with Reverend Michael Ford, Mr. Haskell Gibson and Mr. Pete Vinson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Abbeville, SC. The family may be contacted at the residence.

Calhoun Falls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Humphrey

HONEA PATH -- John C. Humphrey, 70, formerly of Ware Shoals, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Glendale Nursing Home, Wadley, Ga.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Holloway's Funeral Home Inc., 101 Holloway Blvd., Belton.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Gladys Long, 6 Riley St., Honea Path.

Pete Charping

May 9, 1957 -- Nov. 13, 2004

ANDERSON -- John Anthony "Pete" Charping, 47, of 423 Hall Road died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, he was a former employee of Vytech. He also attended Middleton Road Baptist Church and was a former deacon.

Surviving are widow, Elaine English Charping of the home; father and stepmother, Leroy A. Charping and Roberta Charping, both of Anderson; brother, Larry Charping of Anderson; half-brother, John Ronald Charping of Greenville; half-sister, Marie Beardon of Anderson; and a stepsister, Sharon King of Anderson.

He was the son of the late Dorothy F. Hayes Bryant and was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Charping Jr.

Graveside services are at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson, with the Revs. Archie Sharpe and Brian Darrah officiating. The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday.

The family will be at the residence.

Shundrell A. Thurmond & Jashawn E. Thurmond

EASLEY -- Shundrell Ayanna Thurmond and Jashawn Easais Thurmond, infant twins of Douglas and Temmessia Bolden Thurman, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by S.C. Franks Chapel of Remembrance, Liberty.

ALVIN SENTELL

ABBEVILLE -- Alvin Layfatte Sentell, 71, of 208 Hillcrest Drive, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.

Born in Westminster, he was the son of the late Freeman Layfatte and Ruby Smith Sentell. He was a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a retired textile employee of Abbeville Mills with more than 35 years of service. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Surviving are widow, Ruby DeVall Sentell of the home; daughters, Deborah S. Joyner of Tryon, N.C., and Patricia Richey Owens, Jeanette Templeton, Susan Whennen and Carolyn Johnson, all of Abbeville; sister, Velma Pressley of Williamston; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, Abbeville by the Rev. Alvin Hodges; burial will be in Melrose Cemetery, Abbeville. The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The family will be at the home.

BERTHA M. HAMMOND LEE

Bertha M. Hammond Lee, 64, of 1717 Martin Ave., died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004 in Greenwood.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Beatrice Moncrief.

Surviving are daughters, Shirley Lee, Angela Strong and Karen Lee, all of Anderson and Loretta Floyd and Willie D. Lee, both of Greenwood; sons, Otis Lee Jr. and Paul S. Lee, both of Anderson; sisters, Sally M. Moncrief of Greenville, Ruth Moncrief of Florida, Carrie Moncrief of Lavonia, Ga. and Lorene Freeman of Anderson; brother, Rush Moncrief of Lavonia; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Foggie's Home for Funerals of Anderson.

CARRIE ARMSTRONG

PENDLETON -- Carrie Armstrong, formerly of Pendleton, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at the Lake Moultrie Nursing Home in St. Stephen.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Anderson.

The family will be at the home of Wilhelmina Alexander, 322 West Queen St., Pendleton.

CHARLES "POPA" FOWLER

ANDERSON - Charles Lindbergh "Popa" Fowler, 75, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went to be with our Lord, on Wednesday, December 8, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

He was owner and operator of Fowler's Quick Stop for 26 years. He was a charter, lifetime member, and Board of Directors member of the Centerville Fire Department. He was a member of Asbury Baptist Church.

He was born in Anderson on July 14, 1929, the son of the late James Lewis and Gertrude Poore Fowler. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James L. and Billy F. Fowler.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Hardy Fowler, of the home; three children, Jackie Gordon and her husband, Wayne, Larry Fowler and his wife, Jackie, Jan Woodrum and her husband, Gary, all of Anderson; four grandchildren, Charley Holden and her husband, John, Luke Fowler, Katrina and Travis Woodrum, all of Anderson; two sisters, Bonnie Cochran Shirley and Frances Herring of Anderson.

Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Scotty Hendricks and the Rev. Sam Chasteen. Burial will be in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. The body is at the Downtown Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8P.M. Friday. The family is at the residence, 100 Charley Drive.

DAISY QUARLES

HONEA PATH -- Daisy Smith Bagwell Quarles, 93, formerly of Honea Path, widow of Joseph E. Quarles, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.

Born in Greenwood County on September 30, 1911, she was the daughter of the late John Lewis and Sudie Harbin Smith. She was retired from Abney Mills - Belton Plant and was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. She was twice married, first to the late Berry L. "Fate" Bagwell.

Surviving are son, Troy Bagwell of Honea Path; daughter, Mary Wheeler of Columbia; sisters, Dorothy Roach of Honea Path, Lina McDonald of Del Rio, Texas and Sadie Hannah of Taylors; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Blyth Funeral Home chapel in Greenwood by the Rev. Nena Reynolds officiating. Burial was at 2:30 Wednesday in the Garden of Memories near Belton. The body was at the funeral home where the family received friends from 6:30 to 8:00 Tuesday.

The family is at their respective homes.

DAVID DANIEL 'BUCK' SMITH

Jan. 9, 1963 — Dec. 5, 2004

BELTON — David Daniel "Buck" Smith, 41, of 411 Chapman Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, he was a 1981 graduate of McDuffie High School, a member of Welfare Baptist Church and was employed by Dairyland Milk.

Surviving are widow, Lisa Merle Galloway Smith; stepfather, Otis Cowan; daughters, Vanessa Watt, Jasmine Smith and Yolanda Galloway; sons, Sharif Smith and Jamie Galloway; sister, Ann Tennant of Anderson; brother, Robert Lee Smith of Spartanburg; and five grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Fannie Mae Cowan. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anniebell and Andrew Smith.

Services are at 3 p.m. Saturday at Welfare Baptist Church; burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home, Inc., Anderson. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The family will be at the home.

HELEN ETRULIA WEBB CLAMP

BELTON — Helen Etrulia Webb Clamp, 82, widow of the late J.B. Clamp of 204 Edgewood Ave. died December 9th at Calhoun in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Lillian Bannister Webb. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and retired from textiles.

Surviving are son, John Thomas Clamp and wife Judith of Belton; daughter, Elaine Clamp Ellison and husband Roger of Williamston; grandchildren, Tommy Clamp and wife Stacey, Todd Ellison and wife Aprel, and Tony Ellison and wife Laura; great grandchildren, Kelsie Clamp, Jacob Clamp, Joshua Ellison, and William Ellison.

Predeceased by brother, Benjamin Franklin Webb and sister, Inez W. Brooks.

Service will be held 11:00am Saturday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carroll Plemmons officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00pm Friday at Cox Funeral Home.

Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to The Southern Care Hospice.

The family will be at respective homes.

JAN MAIDEN

December 6, 1936-December 8, 2004

PIEDMONT - Janice "Jan" Virginia Maiden, 68, of 101 Nightengale Road, wife of Carl Thomas Maiden, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at her home.

Born in Ticonderoga, NY, she was the daughter of the late Julian and Agnes Provost Hill. Mrs. Maiden retired from The Spine Clinic where she was the office manager.

In addition to her husband of the home, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Jim Cothran of Greenville; and grandchildren, Lauren Cothran, Morgan Cothran, Hunter Cothran, Amy Lieberman, and Stacey Cothran.

She was predeceased by her son, Tommy Maiden; and a daughter, Ginni Dafts.

Memorial services will be 2pm Saturday at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer with the Rev. Johnny Touchet officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
