WESTMINSTER -- Carlie James Burton, age 81, of 105 James Street, Westminster, died Thursday, March 17, 2005 in Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Born October 29, 1923 in Oconee County, Mr. Burton had worked at J.P. Stevens Mfg. Co. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII aboard the USS Donner, attended Clemson University and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Westminster.

Survivors include his wife, Tabitha Jane Hair Burton of the home; son, Dean J. Burton of Seneca; brothers, Lex & Walter L. Burton of Westminster, Burman & Jack Burton of Atlanta, GA, Tommy Joe Burton of Toccoa, GA and Doyle Burton of Long Creek; sister, Frances Cox of Westminster; 2 grandchildren, Dylan and Casey Burton of Seneca.

His parents, Walter Lemuel & Susie Dickson Burton precede Mr. Burton in death.

Funeral services will be 3PM, Sunday, March 20, 2005 at the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster with burial following in the Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca.

The body is at Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM, Saturday, March 19, 2005. The family is at their respective homes. Flowers are accepted and memorials may be made to The Oconee Christian Academy, 150 His Way Circle, Seneca, SC 29672.

DOROTHY ANN WHITE WILLIAMS

March 18, 1937 -- March 16, 2005

BELTON -- Dorothy Ann White Williams, 67, of 102 Lincoln St. died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Brookside Nursing Center, Anderson.

She was a native of Anderson County and was the daughter of the late John Palmer and Bessie Louise White. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Belton, where she served as a member of the missionary society ministry. She was a member of the Thomasena Chapter No. 206 Order of Eastern Stars, Belton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Williams; and one sister, Bessie Lee White Thompson.

Surviving are her son, Gordon Andrew White of Anderson; sisters, Jeanette Dumas of Mays Landing, N.J., and Sarah Ann Stroud of San Diego; and two grandchildren.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenneth A. Dean; burial will be in Anderson Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Holloway's Funeral Home of Belton.

The family will be at the home of her son, Gordon (Rosann) White, 809 Druid Hill Drive, Anderson.

DOUGLAS CARRIER

SENECA -- Douglas Robert Carrier, 51, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at the home of a brother in Seneca.

He was an environmentalist for the United States government.

Surviving are his mother, Freda Jean Juralewicz of Seneca; brothers, Mitchell Carrier of Seneca and Edward Carrier of Beverly, Mass.; sister, Freda Lynn Menize of Beverly, Mass.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Joseph Carrier.

Services and interment were held at Memory Gardens in Clemson on Wednesday. Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home in Seneca was in charge of arrangements.

ELIZABETH OGLESBY

CENTRAL -- Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Drayton Oglesby, 100, of 129 Oglesby Lane died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was a member of White Oak Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons, Paul Jr., David, and Marcell Oglesby, all of Central, and Mathew and A.H. Oglesby, both of Clemson; daughters, Olivia Burt and Carlyn Wakefield of Central, Wilhelmenia Black of Clemson and Alice F. Patterson of Greenville; brother, M.C. Owens of Iva; sisters, Mae Bell Ligon of Central and Emma Mae Gaines of Belton.

She was the widow of Paul Oglesby Sr. and the daughter of the late Ed and Alice Jenkins Drayton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at White Oak Springs Baptist Church, Central. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Adams Mortuary of Seneca is in charge of arrangements.

ELLA WILLIAMS HUTCHINS

GREENVILLE -- Ella Williams Hutchins, widow of John "Pete" P. Hutchins, of Greenville died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Warren Thomas and Ella Jones Williams. She was the last member of her immediate family. She was retired from Dunean Mill after 35 years of service and was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Siloam Baptist Church with a visitation before the service from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Family members are at their respective homes.

Memorials may be made to Siloam Baptist Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, 229 Siloam Road, Easley, S.C. 29642.

FURMAN POWELL

NORRIS -- James Furman Powell, 84, of 233 Jule Merck Road died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Easley Nursing Center.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Edward and Lula Nations Powell. He was retired from Ohio Gear and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Golden Creek Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon for 48 years.

Surviving are his widow, Myrtle Pelfrey Powell of the home; daughters, Lila Hendrix of the home, Doris Chastine of Morrow, Ga., and Martha Baughman of Gaston; sons, Jim Powell of Belton and Roger Powell of Liberty; brothers, Ernest and Donald Powell, both of Norris, and Wallace Powell of Six Mile; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Golden Creek Baptist Church by the Revs. Randy McAlister and Mark Pollard. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Liberty Mortuary, Liberty.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons International, Liberty Camp, P.O. Box 112, Liberty S.C. 29657.

COLUMBIA -- John Black Jr., 55, formerly of Honea Path, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

JOHN DANIEL INGRAM

Dec. 26, 1921 -- March 18, 2005

ANDERSON -- John Daniel Ingram, 83, of 3607 S. Main St. died Friday, March 18, 2005, at his home.

Born in Anderson, he worked in textiles during the twister room. He was a member of Homeland Park Methodist Church and a charter member of the church.

Surviving are his widow, Elsie M. Ingram of the home; son, John D. Ingram of Belton; daughter, Diane Smith of Anderson; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was the son of the late John B. Ingram and Elizabeth Dove Ingram.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Homeland Park Methodist Church by the Rev. Andy Bullions and Amy Dill, chaplain. Burial will be in New Silverbrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Anderson. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

WESTMINSTER -- Joshua McKinley Holbrooks Jr., 77, widower of Estella Blackwell Holbrooks, of 130 Grassy Mountain Road, Holly Springs Community, died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Mountain View Nursing Home in Clayton, Ga.

A native of Oconee County, he was the son of the late Joshua McKinley Holbrooks Sr. and Laura Loranzia Hudson Holbrooks. He was a retired lumberman and a member and deacon of Unity Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Mike J. Holbrooks of Mountain Rest and J.M. Holbrooks III of Westminster; daughters, Louise Black Ramey and Lucy Cobb, both of Westminster; brother, Elijah Holbrooks of Eastanollee, Ga.; sisters, Clara H. Webb Lutz of Cleveland, Ga., and Loranzia H. Norris of Westminster; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sons, John D., Lester D. and Marvin Holbrooks; daughters, Peggy and Myrtle Ann Holbrooks; sisters, Bertha Long, Julie Rudiseal, Thelma Welch and Arzealia Pelfrey; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Unity Baptist Church; burial will follow in Liberty Baptist Cemetery. The body is at Davenport Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

LOUISE DUNN WELBORN

Jan. 8, 1913 -- March 18, 2005

ANDERSON -- Louise Dunn Welborn, 92, of 72 Harris St. died Friday, March 18, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Hart County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Andy Dunn and Mary Rumsey Dunn. She worked in textiles as a spinner and was a member of Orrville Baptist Church

She was the widow of Curtis T. Welborn.

Surviving are sons, Melzer Welborn and Delbert Welborn, both of Anderson; daughter, Shirley Harrity of Beaufort; brother, Eugene Dunn of Laurens; sisters, Callie Jarrell of Florida, Katie Propost of Colorado, Dorothy Carter of Iva and Berdie Feltman of Laurens; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Marrell Welborn; one daughter, Constance Vaughn; four brothers, Bill, J.B., D.M. and Marrell Dunn; and two sisters, Jewel Dunn and L.G. Bates.

Services are at 4 p.m. Sunday at Orrville Baptist Church by the Rev. Wendell Bannister; burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Anderson, and the body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Sunday.

MR. J. D. CHAMBERS

Aug. 22, 1919 -- March 17, 2005

ANDERSON, SC -- Mr. Jimmy David "J.D." Chambers, age 85 of 309 Ponce Deleon Drive, Anderson, SC, husband of the late Jeanette Jones Chambers, died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the Hospice House in Anderson, SC.

Born in Central, SC on August 22, 1919, Mr. Chambers was the son of the late Joseph Carol Chambers and Dosha Elizabeth Chambers. He was a well-known musician and composer and was known throughout the area for his musical talents and long time musical relationship with Gene Autry. He was the co-host of the Jim and Jimmy Gospel Music Show and a member of the Merchant Marines for many years. He composed and recorded numerous songs, which were broadcasted locally and nationally. In 1989, he was the recipient of the Golden Poet Award. Shortly after, he was awarded membership into the Golden Poet Society in Washington, DC.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Coy Lee Jones, Roger Dale Jones and Bobby Joe Jones, God-daughters, Cynthia Jones Smith and Tera Frances Jones, sister, Clarise Turner and his dear friend, Ruby Watson.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, James Jones, three sons, Coy Joe Jones, David Carl Chambers and William Eugene Chambers, brothers, Clyde Troy and Ernest Chambers and a sister, Meg Burton.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Mike Harrell and Mr. Jim Krope and will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Anderson, SC.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 19, 2005 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The family will be at the home of the Godchildren, 231 Boulevard, Anderson, SC.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
