Sally Wilkinson

PATTERSON, N.J. - Sally Butler Wilkinson, 66, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at St. Joseph's Regional Hospital.

Born in Ware Shoals, she was a graduate of Emma Maddox High School. She moved to New York in 1958 and later relocated to Patterson, N.J. in 1982. She was retired from Chase Manhattan Bank, where she had worked as a Securities Manager. As a young person, she was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church and later joined St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Patterson, N.J. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Butler Sr. and Lillian Robinson Butler.

Surviving are her husband, James Wilkinson of Patterson, N.J.; daughter, Shannon Wilkinson of New York City; brother, Edward Robinson of Bayside, N.Y.; and one granddaughter.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Good Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Stanley Haltiwanger; burial in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Wilbur Robinson Memorial Chapel of Robinson Walker Funeral Service in Ware Shoals. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Monday.

The family will be at 34 Joe Oulla Road, Ware Shoals.

Sara Nelms

SENECA - Sara Helen Kerr Nelms, 83, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Seneca Health and Rehab Center.

She was a native of Seneca and was the daughter of Joe Howard and Ellie Smith Kerr. She was a Charter member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church. She was a member of the Joy Sunday school at Hopewell Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alexander Nelms; two sons, James Earl and Roger Dale Nelms; a brother, Bill Farmer; and three sisters, Lola Nalley, Rilla Payne and Bertie Price.

Surviving are sons, Jerry Franklin Nelms and Rickie (Rick) Joe Nelms, both of Seneca; daughter, Barabara N. Brown of Seneca; sisters, Annie Burkett of Central and Nora Gastley of Liberty; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Hopewell Baptist Church by the Revs. Bob Dickard and David Shirley. Burial will follow in Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church 10 to 11 a.m. Monday prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, S.C. 29672 or Hopewell Baptist Church building fund, 161 Hopewell Church Road, Seneca, S.C. 29678.

Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home of Seneca is in charge of arrangements.

Chan Dennis

Sept. 21, 1930 - March 21, 2006

Chan Dennis, 74, of 502 Cathcart Drive, Anderson, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Iva, he was retired from Springs and affiliated with Crossroad CME Church.

Surviving are his wife, Bettye Walton Dennis of the home; daughters, Melody Harris of Columbia, Marranda Lee and Dorothy Jean Wideman, both of Anderson; son, Anthony Walton, Chan Anderson, Charles, Rodrick, Derrick and Reno Lee, all of Anderson; sisters, Ellen Ruth Crosby, Virginia Ladson, Patricia Thompson, Lena, Hazel, Martha, Mildred, and Gloria Dennis, all of Anderson; brothers, Harold, Louie and Douglas W. Dennis, all of Anderson.

He was a son of the late Louise Augustus Dennis and Ollie Jones Dennis. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harper and Mack Dennis; and sister, Mary Dennis.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home with interment in Westview Cemetery. The family is at the home.

Clifford O. Mason

SENECA - Clifford O. Mason of Seneca died Friday, March 24, 2006 at Seneca Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Seneca Mortuary.

Cornelia Dalton

Sept. 17, 1918 - March 18, 2006

SENECA - Cornelia Gantt Dalton, 87, of 115 Pelfrey Street died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Oconee County, she was a member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church of Westminster and attended many other churches, including Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Kisco, NY. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge of New York. She was a beautician, LPN, and caterer and attended the public schools systems in Oconee County.

Surviving is a sister, Sarah Ware of Rockville, MD.

She was the daughter of the late William Gantt I and Lillian Gantt. She was preceded in death by seven brothers; and five sisters.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, 108 Brock Road, Westminster. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery 6th Street, Seneca. The family is at the home, 115 Pelfrey Street in Seneca. Gilbert Funeral Parlor of Seneca is in charge of arrangements.

Edla A. Pless

Dec. 20, 1939 - March 24, 2006

Edith Edla Anderson Pless, 66, of 444 Double Springs Road, Anderson, died Friday, March 24, 2006 at the Hospice House.

Born in Elberton, Ga., she was a seamstress and attended Double Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Pope of Kershaw, Edith Watford of Barnwell and Lisa Newton of Townville; son, Lawrence "Pete" Pless Jr. of Anderson; brothers, Hoke Anderson Jr., Joel Anderson Sr. and Wilton Anderson; sisters, Mornay Pless and Patricia Vaughn; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late Hoke Anderson Sr. and Zelma Adams Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the Boulevard Baptist Church Chapel conducted by Pastor Mark Watford, the Rev. Daryle Hawthorne and Rev. Tony Pope. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The family is at the home of Jerry and Becky Estridge, 303 Williamsburg Drive, Anderson. Sullivan-King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 20621.

Elton L. McCoy

Elton Louise McCoy, 82, formerly of Anderson, died Friday, March 24, 2006 at Eden Garden Assisted Living Center, Rock Hill.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel.

Inez M. Anderson

Dec. 10, 1917 - March 23, 2006

Inez Moore Anderson, 88, of Shiloh Lane, Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Toccoa, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

Born in Stephens County, she lived in Hampton, Va. for 20 years, in Lafayette, TN for several years, Toccoa for 34 years, and in Chattanooga for the past 10 years. She was a member of the Hampton Baptist Church for several years and attended the Concord Baptist Church in Chattanooga. She was a homemaker and later the owner and operator of a ceramic pottery shop.

Surviving are her daughters,Glenda Gwaltney of Chattanooga, TN and Betty Montford of Tallahassee, Fla.; sons, Gary Anderson of Arlington, Texas and Ken Anderson of Seattle; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was the widow of Glenn Anderson and the daughter of the late O.O. and Vacie E. Carter Moore. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Holayter; and a number of brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Toccoa City Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Anderson, Davidson Road, Toccoa, and will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

MR. JOHN HANNA

March 17, 1918 - March 23, 2006

ANDERSON, SC - Mr. John Talmadge Hanna, 88 formerly of 1711 West Whitner Street, Anderson, SC, husband of the late Evie Olivian Smith Hanna, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at NHC HealthCare in Anderson, SC.

Born in Starr, SC, he was the son of the late Haskell Hanna and Annie Tucker Hanna. Mr. Hanna was a retired self-employed painter and was a United States Army World War II veteran.

Survivors are daughters, Annie Carey of Townville, SC and Betty Taylor of Greenville, SC; son, John Talford Hanna of Greenville, SC; brothers, Howard Hanna, Ewell Hanna, Edward Hanna and Marshall Hanna, all of Lowndesville, SC; sister, Evelyn Critton of Iva, SC and special nephew, Floyd Smith. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Ralph Williams and Eb Williams, Jr.; a daughter, Emma Leigh Nazworth; a sister, Jennie Latham; and a brother, Vincent Hanna.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 2:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home by the Reverends David Blizzard and Curtis Lanier. Interment will follow in Iva City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 25, 2006 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The family will be at the home of Jimmy and Mildred Majeski, 512 Lewis Street, Anderson, SC.

Mary Ann James

Jan. 28, 1948 - March 21, 2006

ANDERSON - Mary Ann James, 58, of 301 C Street, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Joe McDowell and Florine McDowell Grant of Pendleton. She was formerly employed at Mt. Vernon Mills in LaFrance, and was a member of New Heavenly Temple of Anderson.

Surviving are daughter, Dana N. James of Anderson; son, Kwasi Tuffour of Pelzer; stepfather, Clarence Grant of Anderson; stepsister, Diane Womack of Seneca; stepgrandmother, Bertha McDowell of Pendleton; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Sylvester and Tincy Bell Johnson Galloway; and paternal grandfather, Arthur McDowell.

Services are at 3 p.m. Saturday by Rev. Melvin Walker assisted by Ministers Gerald Peppers and Reid at W.I. Peek and F. W. Jackson Memorial Chapel of The Unity Mortuary in Anderson. Burial will be in Mt. Able Baptist Church cemetery in Pendleton.

No visitation is planned.

The family is at the home.

Roy Rucker

April 29, 1923 - March 21, 2006

Roy Rucker, 82, of 604 West Reed St., Anderson, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at his residence.

Born in Georgia, he was affiliated with Kingdom Hall - South Congregation.

Surviving are his wife, Minnie Johnson Rucker of the home; daughter, Martha Sanders of Lakewood, Colo.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was the son of the late George Samuels and Irene Golston Samuels.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Kingdom Hall on Airline Road with interment in Anderson Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in state at 3 p.m. Sunday. The family is at the home. Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Seth Blanding, infant son of Wylanda Blanding of Belton and Elias Sanchez of Belton; grandmothers, Lela Blanding of Belton and Lydia Torres of Belton; grandfather, Paul Henry of Piedmont.

Terre Williamson

Theresa Jane Vassar Williamson, 52, of 1811 B. Edgewood Ave., Anderson, died Friday, March 24, 2006 at the AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson.

The family is at the home of her sister, Gae' Griffin, 1019 Lakewood Drive, Anderson, S.C. 29625. Funeral arrangements will be announced by The McDougald Funeral Home.

BARBARA DENISE ROBINSON SMITH

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Barbara Denise Robinson Smith, age 45, 111 Lockwood Ave. #601, New Rochelle, NY, died Thursday, April 27, 2006 in Valhalla, NY.

Daughter of Thelma Ann Coleman Robinson of Bridgeport, Conn. and the late Ulysses Robinson Jr. Other survivors include: husband, Cleveland Smith of NY; 2 brothers, Derrick Robinson of Atlanta, GA, Russell Robinson of TX; grandmother, Louise Gantt Brown of NY.

Graveside services will be held Friday, 3PM in Memory Gardens, Clemson, SC.

DR. PATRICK ELLISON, DVM

MOUNTAIN REST, SC - Dr. Patrick Dobbs Ellison, 75, husband of Barbara Grafe Johnson Ellison, of 126 Grafe Drive, Mountain Rest, SC, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at National Health Care in Anderson.

A native of Anderson Co., he was the son of the late Oscar Lee and Jimmie Dobbs Ellison. He was a retired Veterinarian and a member of Double Springs Methodist Church. He was a US Air Force veteran and member of NARFE.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: sons, Patrick D. Ellison, Jr. of Lawrenceville, GA, John L. Ellison of Boston, MA; stepson, Charles R. Johnson, Jr. of Birmingham, AL; daughter, Rebecca E. Cole of Chapel Hill, NC; stepdaughters, Karen J. Brinke of Murphy, NC, Trina J. Shaddix of Moultrie, GA; 7 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Mountain Rest Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Foothills Foundation, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672 in memory of Dr. Patrick Ellison.
