ADAM HARVIN

Adam Harvin, 75, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Mariner Health of Sumter - East.

Born Sept. 19, 1928, in Clarendon County, he was a son of Proctor and Annie Leonard Harvin. He received his education in the public schools of Clarendon County. Mr. Harvin served in the U.S. Army, where he received an honorable discharge after years of service. Upon his returning to Sumter, he joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, where he attended faithfully until his health failed.

Survivors include two adopted sisters, Emma (Solomon) Page and Annie (Richard) Archer, both of New York City; a devoted and loving cousin and her husband who were his custodians and took care of him like parents until his death, Mrs. Rebecca and Deacon Robert Burgess, who loved him like a son; two nieces, Denise and Joann Page, both of New York City; five grand - nieces and - nephews of New York City; special cousins, Paulette Mack, Sandra Burgess - Tindal and Chanel, Olivia Burgess and Alexis, Tony (Diane) Burgess and Tre'Kwan, all of Sumter, Deborah (James) Allen of Yokota, Japan; and many other cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one adopted brother, Willie Leonard.

The remains will be placed in the church Wednesday from noon until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Marion Newton, assisted by Pastor Ricky S. Simmons.

Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be friends of the family.

The funeral procession will leave from the home of Deacon Robert and Mrs. Rebecca Burgess, 8 E. Patricia Drive, at 12:35 p.m.

AARON D. BARNETT

WEDGEFIELD - Aaron D. Barnett, 67, husband of Minnie E. Johnson Barnett, died Nov. 7, 2003, at 160 Praylou Road.

Born July 2, 1936, in Athens, Ga., he was a son of the late Rezell and Mireasie Johnson Barnett. Deacon Barnett was raised and educated in Athens, Ga. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country for 23 years until his retirement in April 1978. He was formerly employed with the Sumter Housing Authority and he also worked for the Sumter First Presbyterian Church for 24 years. On June 30, 1956, he was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Minnie E. Johnson of Selma, Ala., and to this loving union five children were born. In Sept. 1972, the family moved to Shaw Air Force Base. He became a member of the Household of Faith Holiness Church in November 1972 under the leadership of the late Bishop E.D. Sanders. He served his church faithfully in many capacities, including deacon board, usher board, pastor's aide, and wherever his gifts and talents were needed.

Survivors besides his devoted wife of 47 years, Minnie E. Johnson Barnett of the home, include three sons, Aaron Barnett Jr., Wendell (Betty) Barnett and Scottie (Linda) Barnett, all of Sumter; two daughters, Debbie (Darryl) Parker of Clovis, N.M., and Kendra Barnett of the home; 17 grandchildren; two great - grandchildren; three sisters, Vastine Calloway, Zonell Barnett and Vargus Foot, all of Atlanta; two aunts of Athens, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Bertha Rowland of Selma, Ala.; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Household of Faith Holiness Church, Camden, with the Rev. David Williams, pastor, assisted by Pastor John Wright, Minister Blake Halley, Pastor Sammy C. Smith, Bishop Randolph Johnson and Dr. Edward McLeod. Burial will be in Cedar cemetery, Camden.

The funeral procession will leave at 2 p.m. from the residence, 160 Praylou Road, Wedgefield.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 160 Praylou Road, Wedgefield.

EMMA EADDY

Mrs. Emma Eaddy, 97, of Sumter and formerly of Andrews, died Nov. 7, 2003, in Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Church of Christ with Brother Melvin Hampton officiating.

Born March 19, 1906, in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Alex Eaddy and the late Laney Eaddy.

Survivors include one sister, Almeta Chatman of Sumter; five grandchildren, Donna Collins, Bertha Collins, Vaddie Alan Collins Jr. of Cleveland, Nadine Collins Miller of Detroit, and Kathleen Collins of Orange, Calif.; two great - grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

BOBBY E. LANE

DILLON - Bobby Eugene Lane, 57, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at his residence after an illness.

Born in Dillon County, July 15, 1946, he was a son of Cora Cain Lane and the late Roy Pittman Lane. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of East Dillon Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in East Dillon Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Gayle Lane of Dillon; son, Travis Eugene Lane of Dillon; stepdaughter, Cindy Hyatt of North Myrtle Beach; brothers, Roy Lane Jr. and Irvin (Barbara) Lane, both of Summerville; sisters, Bestelle (Gene) Lewis and Earlene Harrelson, both of Sumter, and Gertrude (Carlton) Ramsey of Hampton, Va., and Shirley Robinson of Sumter; grandchildren, Hunter Lane of Dillon, Steven Hyatt, Bettey Hyatt and Joseph Hyatt, all of North Myrtle Beach; mother-in-law, Harriett Harper of Dillon; brothers-in-law, Donald (Carol) Harper of New Martinsville, W.Va., Brian (Hope) Harper of Dillon; sisters-in-law, Darlene (Mickey) Wilkerson and Tammy (Kenny) Page, both of Dillon, and Dixie Lane of Florence; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lane was predeceased by brothers, Billy Lane and Horace Lane; sisters, Mildred Butler and Hazel Herring.

Memorials can be made to McLeod Hospice, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29501.

JAMES F. GOODMAN

LYNCHBURG - Mr. James Frank Goodman of Lynchburg died on Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, after an illness.

Mr. Goodman was the husband of Mrs. Maebell Evans Goodman.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 3905 Trinity Road, Lynchburg.

Services are incomplete and will be announced later by Jefferson Funeral Home of Lynchburg.

GEORGE W. HOLLIDAY

George W. Holliday, 76, veteran of World War II, died on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at the Dorn VA Medical Center of Columbia.

Born Feb. 13, 1927, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Frank Holliday and Mary Jane Holliday.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Richard Burgess, Frank Holliday Jr., Harriet Knox and Lena Holliday.

He attended the public schools of Sumter County.

His survivors include one daughter, Michelle Johnson (Felix); two grandchildren, Miesha and Kyonne Johnson, all of Sumter; one sister, Rebecca Holliday of New York City; three nephews, Benjamin Knox of Silver Springs, Md., Bernard Knox of New York City and Theodore Holliday of Linden, N.J.; a special cousin, Fred Green Jr. of Vallejo, Calif.; surrogate mother, Julia Pettigrew of Sumter; two brothers-in-law, Alonzo B. Knox and John Rogers, both of Sumter; godchild, Eris Allen (William) of Sumter; and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Pisgah AME Church with the pastor, the Rev. Juenarrl Keith, officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. for viewing until the hour of service.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Michelle Johnson, at 704 Wen - Le Drive, Sumter.

The funeral procession will leave at 1:30 p.m.

JESSE BROWN

Jesse Brown, 79, widower of Nettie Jackson Brown, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at a local nursing center.

Born in Rembert, he was a son of the late Daniel H. Brown and the late Cora McManus Brown.

Mr. Brown was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church and retired from Sumter Machinery Co. with 48 years of service.

Surviving are two sons, Bruce Stafford of Limestone, Tenn., and Eddie Brown of St. Stephen; four daughters, Kay Hancock, Judy Irick, Debra Croft and Beth Bolinger, all of Sumter; 15 grandchildren; and six great - grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Marion Brown; three brothers; and four sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Drew Choate officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore - Hill - McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of his daughter, 475 Rainbow Drive.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 5000 Thurmond Mall Drive, Suite No. 106, Columbia, SC 29201.

HAROLD G. WALTON

Harold Glenwood Walton, age 67, beloved husband of the late Bonnie Gonsor Walton, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Walton was born in Boonesville, Va., son of the late Melvin Alfred and Pearl Gibson Walton. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1994 and moved to Sumter to be with his family. He was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving are one daughter, Debra Morris and her husband, Kenneth, of Dalzell; two brothers, Hueyette Walton and Leonard Walton, both of Baltimore; one sister, Joyce Hafko of Delaware; three grandchildren, Daryl Morris, Kristyn Hippensteel and April Miller; and one great - grandchild, Nicholas Miller Jr.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude's Hospital for Children and the American Cancer Society.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home and Crematorium to handle the arrangements.

MABLE M. BURROUGHS

Mable Edith Muldrow Burroughs, servant of the Lord, was born July 8, 1922, in Mayesville. Mable went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 7, 2003, at Marcella Rehabilitation Center in Willingboro, N.J.

Mable was the daughter of the late Elias and Hattie Muldrow. Mable's life was one of joy and love, which was shown through her mother and father, one sister and one brother.

Mable's education was extensive from elementary, high school and later she graduated from Morris College in Sumter. During Mable's college years, she met and married her school sweetheart, Albert Burroughs (deceased). They were inseparable. To this union, two children were born, Albert T. Burroughs (deceased) and Zenobia Loretta Pinkins.

She received her BA degree in English from Morris College and later went on to further her education by receiving her master's degree in adult education from the University of Texas, El Paso. She taught in the public schools for 39 years.

She was a member of Mt. Pisgah AME Church and served for more than 60 years until her illness. Mable served on the gospel choir, sanctuary choir, a member of the missionary society, the lay organization, class leader, trustee, drama club, and stewardess board No. 1. She was an adult Sunday school teacher, taught Vocational Bible School, president of the Daughters of Allen, president of the Everready Club, and worked wherever needed. Her outside affiliations were with Church Women United of Sumter County, the Senior Citizens Center, life member of the NAACP, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and the Daughters of the Elks No. 835.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted daughter, Zenobia Loretta Pinkins of Westampton, N.J.; a loving and devoted grandson/son, Savay R. Burroughs of Brooklyn, N.Y.; another grandson, Christopher Gamble; one sister, Alma Kennedy of Sumter; and a host of nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at Mt. Pisgah AME Church with the Rev. Dr. Juenarrl Keith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

The body will lie in state at 11 a.m. Saturday.
