DAVID L. GAY III

David Lee Gay III, 52, wife of Melodye Gay, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003.

He was a son of David Lee and Kris Gay of Sumter.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery in Vermilion, Ohio.

Visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion.

Riddle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

DANIEL STINNEY

NEW YORK - Daniel Stinney, 60, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, in New York.

Born Oct. 4, 1943, in Summerton, he was the son of the late David and Annie Mae Williams Stinney. He was married to the late Eltonia Powers in June 1978.

Survivors include a stepmother, Christine Stinney of Florence; four sons; three brothers; five sisters; two stepsisters; and three stepbrothers.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. today at Taw Caw Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

King Funeral Home of Summerton is in charge of arrangements.

LUELLA N. MEDLIN

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - LUELLA NOTZKE MEDLIN, 68, of Charlotte, N.C., went to be with her heavenly Father, Saturday, November 2003.

Luella was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Burlington, Iowa, the only child of Albert Otto Notzke and Mable Fritz Notzke. She graduated from Burlington High School and attended Burlington Junior College and received her BA from Culver - Stockton College, Canton, Mo., Class of '59. She was retired from TWA as an international flight attendant after 34 years of service, during which time she flew troops into Vietnam and Saudi Arabia and was awarded five around the world charters. She met her beloved husband of 34 years, retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Lawrence Newton Medlin, in Saigon while both were working. Mrs. Medlin and her husband both were members of the Charlotte Tech High School, where he attended high school.

She was a member of the Officers' Spouse Club, Shaw Air Force Base, where she enjoyed playing bridge.

Loving the mountains, where she lived part of the year, she attended Buck Hill Presbyterian Church, where she played the piano for services. She also played for the senior citizens group in Newland, N.C. She also attended Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Sumter, where she was living at the time of her death.

A service to celebrate the life of Luella Medlin will be held 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at McEwen Charlotte Chapel, 727 E. Morehead St., with the Rev. Dr. J. Grady Faulk officiating. Burial will follow in the Medlin family plot at Bessemer City cemetery, Bessemer City, N.C.

The family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at McEwen Charlotte Chapel.

Mrs. Medlin is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. Lawrence Newton, and many family and friends from all over the country who loved her very much.

KEVIN FRANKLIN

Mr. Kevin Franklin of 1245 Pawn Shop Circle, Lot 25, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 20, 1974, in Sumter County, he was a son of Mrs. Barbara Pearson and Mrs. George Gregg and the stepson of Mr. Elijah Pearson.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 1245 Pawn Shop Circle, Lot 25.

Funeral plans are incomplete.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SUSAN G. SMITH

MANNING - Susan Graham Smith, 94, widow of Eugene Smith, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, in Lifecare Center of Charleston.

Born Aug. 10, 1909, in Foreston, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Elliott Graham and the late Louise Elizabeth Thames Graham.

Surviving are two sisters, Virginia Harper of Charleston and Juanita Eason of Jacksonville, Fla.; a granddaughter, Melanie Padgett Telles of Keller, Texas; and two great - grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joella Smith Padgett.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Foreston cemetery.

Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of the arrangements.

JESSIE B. CLARK

Jessie B. Clark, 96, widow of William Clark, died Nov. 3, 2003, at NHC Healthcare.

Born June 3, 1907, in St. Charles, Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Jess and Maggie Morgan Brunson.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Sadie Witherspoon, 8 Dew Drive, Sumter 29153.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc.

SAMUEL McGEE Sr.

Samuel McGee Sr., 78, widower of Thelma June McGee, died Nov. 4, 2003, at his residence, 3595 W. Brewington Road.

Born Aug. 2, 1925, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Warren McGee and Mammie Porter McGee.

The family will receive friends at the home, 3595 W. Brewington Road, Sumter.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc.

TYRONE THOMPSON

Tyrone Thompson, 27, husband of Melissa Dinkins Thompson, died Nov. 2, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 16, 1976, in Sumter, he was a son of Lander Fox Rock and Mary Lee Thompson. He attended Sumter High School and graduated in Jasper, Ga. He was a member of Beulah Christian Tabernacle Church. He was employed by Credit Auto Sale and Kia Time, Sumter.

Survivors besides his wife and parents, Lander Fox Rock and Mary Lee Thompson, both of Sumter, include four sons, Isaih Tyrone Thompson of Cordele, Ga., Tyree Mylik Thompson, Tylik Tyrone Thompson and Tyrell J'vione Thompson, all of Sumter; two daughters, TaShawn Wilson of Cordele, Ga., and Tanjah Mayonna Vaughn of Sumter; a special friend, Tonya D. Dukes of Sumter; grandmother, Loutelia Rock of Sumter; one brother, Bobby Lee Thompson; one sister, Linda Rock, both of Sumter; five special cousins, James Lee Session, Frances A. Gibson, Eric Session, Yolanda McBride and Janice Solomon; five aunts; five uncles; four great - aunts; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Maxwell Rock, Frank and Rosa B. Thompson; three uncles; and three great - aunts.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Greater Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Marvin Hodge, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

The body will lie in state at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, Mary Lee Thompson, 415 Park Homes Ave., Sumter, SC 29150.

PAULINE JERNIGAN

Graveside services for Pauline Coleman Jernigan will be held in Aimwell cemetery, Ridgeway, on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Shirkey officiating.

Members of the family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.

Pauline Coleman Jernigan, widow of the Rev. B.B. Jernigan, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at Lowman Home, White Rock. She was born July 13, 1900, in Ridgeway and was the eldest of eight children born to the late Joseph Hines Coleman and Martha Walker Harrison Coleman.

At an early age, Mrs. Jernigan joined the staff of the S.C. Baptist Convention in Columbia as a secretary in the Sunday School Division, a position she held for 43 years. She was a devoted member of Eau Claire Baptist Church in Columbia and a member of the XYZ Club.

Mrs. Jernigan was preceded in death by two brothers, J.W. Coleman and Hugh H. Coleman; and four sisters, Josephine C. Lewis, Maude C. Courtney, Lois C. Bradham and Helen C. Crawford.

She is survived by stepdaughters, Cordelia Huggins, Sara Dennis and Zoe Newton; a sister, Ethel C. Toler of Laurens; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Coleman; nieces, Betty L. Davis, Helen L. Wilkes, Lucy L. McMaster, Jenny Shirkey, Mary Coleman, Elizabeth Logue, Barbara Andrews and Sylvia Blitch; nephews, J.W. Coleman Jr. and Hugh H. Coleman Jr.; also a number of great and great - great nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Eau Claire Baptist Church, 4427 Main St., Columbia, SC 29203, or to Aimwell Presbyterian Church cemetery Fund, Ridgeway, SC 29130.

MARY ANNE H. LeBOURDAIS

Mrs. Mary Anne Hurt LeBourdais, 45, wife of Mr. Duane K. LeBourdais, died suddenly Nov. 1, 2003, at her home in Plano, Texas.

Mrs. LeBourdais is the daughter of Mary Katherine Creal Hurt and Jack Otis Hurt.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at West Plano Presbyterian Church.

BILL LeROUX

William H. "Bill" LeRoux Jr., 69, husband of Janis LeRoux, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at his home.

Born in Lakeland, Fla., he was a son of the late William Henry LeRoux Sr. and the late Elma Mae Sapp LeRoux.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of the Po - Boy's Bass Club. He was a Navy veteran with 20 years of service and served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was also a retired truck driver and the captain of security at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Survivors besides his wife of the home include two sons, Billy (April) LeRoux of Wedgefield and Andy (Amanda) LeRoux of Pinewood; a sister, Patsy Middleton Peterson of Florida; a brother, David Middleton of Maryland; two grandchildren; a nephew, Don Middleton and his wife, Jane, of Beverton, Ore.; and a niece, Debra Middleton Menacho of San Jose, Calif.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Elmore - Cannon - Stephens Funeral Home with Bishop Marion Ardis officiating.

Private burial will be in the Florence National cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Elmore - Cannon - Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
