WILLIE HOLMES Sr.

Mr. Willie Holmes Sr., son of the late John Henry Cuttino and the late Maggie Holmes, departed this life on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter, following a brief illness.

He was born on May 25, 1922, in Sumter County. Mr. Holmes attended the public schools of Lee County. At an early age, he became a member of Jerusalem Stuckey Baptist Church, Bishopville. In his younger life, Willie lived in Paterson and Newark, N.J., and later he relocated to Woodrow, where he resided until his death.

Mr. Holmes served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged from the United States Army on Jan. 18, 1946.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie (Holmes) Robinson, his parents and three sisters.

Mr. Holmes leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Eric Holmes of Woodrow and Willie Bruce (Jeannane) Holmes of Lamar; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Gates and Lannie Hickman, both of Philadelphia; one brother-in-law, George Jenkins; four grandchildren, Eric Patrick Holmes Jr. and Simone Holmes, both of the home, Lolita Holmes and Ricky Cabbagestalk, both of Woodrow; two great - granddaughters; one loving uncle, Alex Holmes Sr. of Sumter; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitations will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday at Wilson's Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St., Bishopville. Burial will be in the National cemetery, Florence.

The family will receive friends at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Willie "Bruce" Holmes Jr., 1107 W. Lynches River Road, Lamar.

Wilson's Funeral Home, Bishopville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. DeWitt, widow of Monroe M. DeWitt, died Friday, October 4, 2002. Born in Florence County, SC, she was a daughter of the late George D. and Louella Gardner Straup. She was a charter member of West Hartsville Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons and daugh - ters-in-law, Jimmy and Jennie DeWitt of Hartsville, SC, M. Gregg and Kay DeWitt of Florence, SC; sisters, Betty Fuller of Bessemer, MI, Georgia Neely of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Kacee DeWitt, Jenna DeWitt, Parker DeWitt.

Margaret Blackwell Gardner

Hartsville, SC
Margaret Blackwell Gardner, 85, died Monday, October 7, 2002. Funeral plans will be announced later by Brown - Pennington - Atkins Funeral Home.

Wilma Faye Hilton McPhee

Wilma Faye Hilton McPhee, 66, widow of James L. McPhee, died Monday, October 7, 2002. Born in Joplin, MO, she was a daughter of Chloe Hall Hilton and the late Amos Hilton.

Surviving are her sons, Allan Burns of Washington State, Michael McPhee of Lugoff, SC, Eryll McPhee of Hartsville, SC; mother, of Ukiah, CA; sisters, Bessie Barnes of Ukiah, CA, Leatha Riley of Oregon State; brother, Nelson Hilton of Ukiah, CA; 9 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Vern Hilton. Brown - Pennington - Atkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Thomas died Tuesday, October 8, 2002. Born in Chesterfield County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Morgan Lee and Mintie Howell Hall. She was employed with Guardian Angels.

Mrs. Barfield, widow of Horace Barfield, died Friday, November 22, 2002. Born in Kershaw County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Hebron and Inez Hawkins Outlaw. She was a member of Kelleytown Baptist Church and the Ruth Kelley Sunday school class.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Lloyd of Hartsville, SC, Penny and Al Adams of Hartsville, SC, Beverly and Clyde Hooks of Hartsville, SC, Kay and Perry Lloyd of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren and spouse, Joseph Lloyd, Gennie and Fritz Timmons, Garland Ballard, Brandon and Susan Hooks, Amber Hooks, Sam Lloyd, Marcy and Greg Smith; 9 great - grandchildren.

James Francis Driggers

Mr. Driggers died Saturday, November 23, 2002. Born in Marlboro County, SC, he was a son of the late John Henry and Martha Hendrix Driggers. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, an Army veteran and P.O.W. of WWII, and retired from Klopman Mills in Society Hill, SC.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, James Donald and Belinda Driggers of Cheraw, SC, Franklin Wayne and Hattie Driggers of Cheraw, SC, Larry Luther and Laura Driggers of Florence, SC; daughters and son-in-law, Peggy Driggers Burr of Florence, SC, Frances Dianne Driggers of Cheraw, SC, Bonnie Jean and Bill Hall of Grayson, KY; 15 grandchildren; 7 great - grandchildren. Ms. Timmons died Tuesday, November 26, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, she was a daughter of James Henry Timmons and Janet Marie Hall Timmons. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and was a senior at West Florence High School.

Surviving are her father of Florence, SC; mother of Hartsville, SC; brother, Justin Timmons of Hartsville, SC; sister, Jamie Timmons of Hartsville, SC; uncles, Jimmy Johnson of Lugoff, SC, Curtis Hall of Chesterfield, SC; aunts, Deborah Lloyd and Lynn Steen, both of Hartsville, SC, Tammy Easterling of Tampa, FL, Tina Lesane of Timmons, SC; paternal grandparents, Charles and Lyne Timmons of Timmonsville, SC; maternal grandparents, Carl and Edith Munn of Hartsville, SC.

Mr. Wilks died Thursday, December 5, 2002. Born in Kershaw County, SC, he was a son of the late Gussie H. and Una Collins Wilks. He was a member of Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church and Retired after 28 years from Sandhills State Forestry.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Dixon Wilks of Hartsville, SC; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Gail Wilks of Hartsville, SC, Tony and Rose Wilkes of Hartsville, SC; sister, Vermelle Freeman of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Randall Wilks, Faith Wilks, Emily Wilks; 3 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Wilks.

Roy James Moore

Mr. Moore died Friday, January 24, 2003. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late James Drew and Bessie McCoy Moore. He was a member of The Methodist Faith and retired from Harsco Track Technologies and engaged in real estate.

Surviving are his son, Robert J. Moore of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Karen D. Moore of Columbia, SC; sister, Carolyn M. Hall of Charlotte, NC.

Mr. Warren died Saturday, January 25, 2003. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of Ann King Warren Arrowood and the late William David Warren, Jr. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, and worked at Carausar of Fort Mill, SC for 13 years where he was a draftsman. He attended York Technical College and graduated with a degree in Engineering.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Warren of Rock Hill, SC; mother of Hartsville, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Tamara W. and Philip Crowley of Charleston, SC; brother, W. David Warren, III of Hartsville, SC.

Mr. Melton, widower of Jessie Hall Melton, died Monday, January 27, 2003. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late George and Bertha Webb Melton. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army and retired from Springs Mill of Laurinburg, NC.

Surviving are his sons, Gordon Melton of Hartsville, SC, George "Sunshine" Melton of Hartsville, SC; daughters, Judy O'Neal of Hartsville, SC, Angie Flowers of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Sam Melton, Henry Melton, Shannon Rhodes, Ricky Murff; great - grandchildren, Blake Winburn, Ketelan Mixon, Chase Mixon, Jordan Barfield, Kellie Johnson, Courtney Moody, Hunter Moody, Kevin Lee Byrd, Taylor Renee Melton. He was preceded in death by his son Ronnie Melton, his brother Heyward Gandy, and his sister Maggie Rogers.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Ann Dalrymple Beasley of Hartsville, SC; son, Hugh Elbert "Bert" Beasley of Hartsville, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Joe Kelly of Raleigh, NC; sister, Milford Kea of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Alyson Siczek, Sarah Jeffords, Joseph Kelly, II. He was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Beasley, and his sister, Alice Hutto.
