Kennedy will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery directed by Brown - Pennington - Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 8, 2003 from 4 - 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the West Hartsville Baptist Church, 1003 W. Carolina Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mr. McCall died Friday, June 6, 2003. Born on February 6, 1929 in Cashiers, NC, he was a son of the late Herman B. and Cleo Edwards McCall. He was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church since 1958, a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher, a member of the Finance Committee, and the Beautification Committee. He was a past board member of Kalmia Gardens. He was a long - time member of Clemson IPTAY. He was a member of the Hartsville Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He belonged to the Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173 and The Omar Shrine Temple.
He retired as Sr. Vice President from the Bank of Hartsville (NationsBank).

He was a graduate of Brevard Junior College, and graduated in 1951 from Clemson University with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics. He also received a Certificate from Louisiana State University School of Banking.

Mr. McCall was an avid gardener, hunter, and fisherman. He was a faithful and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Katherine V. McCall of Hartsville, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan M. and Pressly Coker, III of Hartsville, SC, Laura M. and Ben Crouch of Hartsville, SC, Mira M. and Chuck Watson of Hartsville, SC; brother, H. Eugene McCall of Waynesville, NC; grandchildren, Pressly Coker, IV, Katherine Coker, Kathleen Coker, Caroline Crouch, Halliburton Crouch, Claibourne Crouch, Covington Watson III, McCallee Watson. He was preceded in death by his sister Betty M. Davis.

Mildred Taylor Miller

Funeral services for Mildred Taylor Miller, 84, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2003 at West Hartsville Baptist Church. Mrs. Miller, widow of James Wesley Miller the owner of the Rainbow Drive - In, died Friday, June 6, 2003. Born in Darlington Co., SC, she was a daughter of John and Dora Gainey Taylor and was raised from an early age by her aunt, Vermelle Gainey Johnson. She was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She retired from Morrell Memorial Convalescent Center as the head dietitian.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Ann M. and Alfred Kelly of Summerton, SC, Gayle M. and Scott Morrison of Hartsville, SC, Pat M. and John Newsome, Jr. of Georgetown, SC, Jennie M. and Kevin Hilderbrand of Hartsville, SC; 6 grandchildren.

Virginia Langston Hays

Funeral services for Virginia Langston Hays, 93, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Bob Cline will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, June 9, 2003 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Brown - Pennington - Atkins funeral home.

Mrs. Hays died Saturday, June7, 2003. Born in Roanoke Rapids, NC, she was the daughter of the late Beler and Mary Kidd Langston. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Hartsville Chapter #91 Order of the Eastern Star, and was a 1927 graduate of Hartsville High School. Mrs. Hays was a member and volunteer for several service organizations.

Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Columbus Franklin Hays, Jr. of Hartsville, SC; son and daughter-in-law, C. Franklin and Elaine Hays, III of Hartsville, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and William M. Hagood, III of Easley, SC, Faye and Dr. Thomas E. Hearon, III of Columbia, SC; brother, Marvin K. Langston of Elgin, SC; grandchildren, Columbus Franklin Hays, IV, Craig Porter Hays, Virginia Hagood MacDonald, Dr. Elizabeth Hearon Lindsey, Mary Kent Hearon, Thomas Edward Hearon, IV; great - grandson, Wilson Buchanan Lindsey. She was preceded in death by her brothers Murphy Langston, Edward Langston, Bealor Langston, Charles Langston and Robert Langston; grandson, William M. Hagood, IV.

Mrs. Hall, widow of Luther Lawrence Hall, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003. Born in Darlington County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Maxie O. and Ruby Lewis Redic. She was a graduate of Coker College and retired from the College as Assistant to the Dean of Faculty. She worked for a number of years with the Darlington County School System. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught youth, college, and adult Sunday school classes. She was a Past - President of the Pilot Club of Hartsville.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Arnold and Janet Hall of Hartsville, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Claude Wint of Hartsville, SC; brothers, Maxie Redic of Charlotte, NC, James Richard Redic of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Bryan Hall, Shannon Bigelow, Hillary Wint, Jason Wint, Lauren Wint; 5 great - grandchildren.

Bobby Heustess

Mr. Heustess died Tuesday, June 10, 2003. Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of the late Hugh and Ellie Mae Gandy and the Late Henry Heustess. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, was retired after 20 years of service in the US Air Force, was a member of the VFW, and retired from Nucor Steel.

Surviving are his wife, Theo Davis Heustess of Hartsville, SC; brother, Tim Gandy of Hartsville, SC; grandson, Rick Byrd of Hartsville, SC. He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Lynn Heustess; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Byrd.

Mrs. Gainey, widow of James T. Gainey, died Saturday, June 14, 2003. Born in Chesterfield Co., SC, she was a daughter of the late George Hunter, Sr. and Margaret Ann Tyner Hunter. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was so loving and giving to her family and friends.

Surviving are her sisters, Lula H. Howle of Hartsville, SC, Lessie H. Ogle of Wilmington, NC; brothers, George W. Hunter, Jr. of Hartsville, SC, Allen M. Hunter of Hartsville, SC, Paul R. Hunter of Hartsville, SC, James Rhenn Hunter of Hartsville, SC, C. Gene Hunter of Hartsville, SC; several nephews; several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her grandchild, Max McCutchen.

Mr. Griggs died Monday, June 30, 2003. Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of Elma Gibson Griggs and the late David Cain Griggs. He was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church, retired as a grain breeder at Coker's Pedigreed Seed, and served in the US Air Force. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather and was an avid fisherman.
