Mrs. Cathcart, widow of Thomas Madden Cathcart, died Friday, July 19, 2002. Born in Darlington, SC, she was a daughter of the late Clifton Vaughn and Ethel Folsom Blackmon. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Columbia College, retired school teacher in the Darlington County School System, and was also involved in Home Bound.

Surviving are her daughters, Sloan Amerson of Hartsville, SC, Tommie Lou Jordan of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Lisa Howard, Thomas Lee Amerson, Shelley Marshall, Lenette Newsome; 5 great - grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lee Doris Parker.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Gainey Dixon of Patrick, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Laverne and Doris Dixon of Cheraw, SC; daughters, Brenda Garrett Jones of Patrick, SC, Mary Griggs of Patrick SC, Patricia Dixon of Chesterfield, SC, Deborah Sue Garrett of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters, Carrie D. O'Neal of Patrick, SC, Patty D. Gainey of Patrick, SC; 10 grandchildren; 12 great - grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister.

For many years she was active in the community affairs of Hartsville. A graduate of Coker College, she served several years on the school's Board of Visitors.

Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Sloan H. and Deward Brittain of Hartsville, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kent and Anna Hungerpiller of Hartsville, SC, James and Page Hungerpiller of Savannah, GA; nephews, Kent Hungerpiller, Jr. and Colin Hungerpiller, both of Hartsville, SC, David Hungerpiller of Cohutta, GA, James R. Mr. Atkinson died Sunday, August 4, 2002. Born in Darlington, SC, he was a son of the late John Heyward and Frances Harrell Atkinson. He was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church. He was employed with Sonoco for 35 years and was a member of the Old Timers Club and the National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christina Atkinson of Lugoff, SC; mother of Hartsville, SC; sisters, Brenda Woods of Hartsville, SC, Catherine Carter of Hartsville, SC; grandchild, Jordan Atkinson; several nephews and a niece.

Mrs. Griggs died Sunday, August 11, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Daisey Odom Horne.

Mrs. Lewis, widow of Thomas R. Lewis, died Monday, August 12, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, she was a daughter of the late William Charles and Lenora Belch Chapman. She was a member of Corner Stone Baptist Church. The family would like to express a special thanks to the Trauma Center and 3rd Floor East McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Surviving are her sister, Willie C. Ghoens of Hartsville, SC; granddaughter, Lisa Allenczy of Florence, SC; several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her daughter Ivey Sue Lewis.

Graveside services for William C. “Bill” Mims, 78, will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2002 in Magnolia cemetery and conducted by Rev. Tim Tomlinson. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 15, 2002 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown - Pennington - Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 East Cheves Street, Florence, SC 28506 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Mr. Mims died Wednesday, August 14, 2002. Born in Camden, SC he was a son of the late Hobson Dewey and Ruth Morton Mims. An avid sportsman and fisherman, his love was baseball. He played second base with the Philadelphia A’s. In the Palmetto League, he played with the Camden Chiefs and Sonoco Products Co. He retired with Sonoco Products Co. after 43 years where he enjoyed much of his life in the Millwright Shop. He was a member of Sonoco Old Timers Club.

Surviving are his wife, of 53 years, Emma Cook Mims; daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis M. Sutherlin of Hartsville, SC, Jeri M. and Ritter Honeycutt of Shallotte, NC, Rock Horne, of Hixson, TN; grandchildren, Alan and Kristy Horne of Hixson, TN, Beau and Blake Sutherlin of Hartsville, SC, Lawes Honeycutt of Shallotte, NC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and Cliff Rollins, Bobby and Buddy Graham, all of Camden, SC. A daughter, Billye M. Horne, preceded him in death.

Mr. Hilderbrand died Thursday, August 15, 2002. Born in York County, SC, he was a son of the late C. M. and Frances Stewart Hilderbrand. He was a member and Deacon of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. He worked with the City of Hartsville for 20 years as the Director of Utilities and was a Veteran of WWII in the Army.

Surviving are his wife, Mae Lovelace Hilderbrand of Hartsville, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Jennie Hilderbrand of Hartsville, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Grace and Lawrence Hope of Hartsville, SC, Connie and Lee Benoy of Englishtown, NJ; sister, Buree Pendleton of Gastonia, NC; grandchildren, Sandy Jones, Robin Gibson, Chat Hope, Wesley Hilderbrand, Ernie Hilderbrand, Candi Benoy; great - grandchildren, Caitlyn Hathaway, Brooke Jones. He was preceded in death by his father C. Hilderbrand, and his mother Frances Hilderbrand.

Mr. Redding died Friday, August 16, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late Floyd C. and Pauline Schyler Redding. He was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church, and worked for Sonoco for 40 years as a Print Shop Supervisor.

Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Chuck Myer of Columbia, SC, Becky and Steve Cobb of Union, SC; daughter-in-law, Kaye Redding of Hartsville, SC. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Redding.

Mr. Perdue died Friday, August 16, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late William John and Cammie Biles Perdue. He was a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church. He retired from Sonoco after 50 years, was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are his wife, June Jordan Weatherford Perdue of Hartsville, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. and Linda Weatherford of Lamar, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Kaye Perdue and John Allen of Hartsville, SC, Robin W. and Al Beard of Lexington, SC; granddaughter, Jaime Robbins; grandsons, Robbie Weatherford, Jordan Weatherford. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Roy Perdue.
