LUCILLE B. RAY

DALZELL - Lucille B. Ray, 92, widow of Henry "Doc" Ray, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Dalzell, she was the daughter of the late Henry Benenhaley and the late Martha Benenhaley. She was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church in Dalzell.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruby Carter of Sumter and Faye D'Angelo of Dalzell; two sons, Henry A. Ray of Sumter and Wilson Ray of Dalzell; 12 grandchildren; 17 great - grandchildren; and one great - great - grandchild.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Long Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Carroll Waddell, the Rev. Sim Smith and the Rev. Tommy Comer officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Elmore - Cannon - Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 4355 Brabham Drive, Dalzell.

Elmore - Cannon - Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

BISHOP V. YOUNG

Bishop V. Young, 71, husband of Dorothy Lambert Young, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at his home.

Born in Florence County, he was a son of the late Rev. James N. Young and the late Retha Edna Driggers Young.

He was a member of Walker Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and attended Green Acres Assembly of God and Harmony Church. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service and also retired from the city of Sumter.

Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include three brothers, Murrell Young, Kenneth Young and Roger Dale Young, all of Lake City; two sisters, Margie Wilson and Carolyn Price, both of Summerton; three stepsons, Richard Lambert and Edward Lambert, both of Sumter, and Robert Lambert of Manning; two stepdaughters, Karen Cooper and Melissa Lambert, both of Sumter; seven grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Young; and a stepdaughter, Susan Lambert.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Elmore - Cannon - Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Drew Choate officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Don Barber, Bobby Dubose, Ernest Hendrix, Robert Galloway, Bob Blair, Melvin Mixon and Steece Hermanson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Long, Buck Jackson and Charlie Pitts.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Elmore - Cannon - Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 709 Wen Le Drive.

Elmore - Cannon - Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

EUNICE CASSADY

The last religious rites for Mrs. Eunice Cassady will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Albert A. Glover Funeral Home with Brother Keith Vaughn officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial cemetery, Sumter.

Her children, Hope L. Winberg, Irene Harrison, and Rudy Charles Cassady; her brother, Perry Baker; her sister, Vivian Copeland; request her grandchildren, great - grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to attend with them these last rites.

The family received friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Albert A. Glover Funeral Home, 113 Bryan St., Summerville, S.C., (843) 871 - 1528, fax (843) 832 - 9240.

HENRY E. JAMES

Henry E. James, 90, husband of Lucille Pringle James, died Nov. 25, 2003, at his residence, 2660 Yank Haven Drive.

Born May 9, 1913, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Frank James and Mary Nelson James.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Archie Anderson, 2660 Yank Haven Drive, Sumter.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

DALE C. ALEXANDER

YARDVILLE, N.J. - Dale C. Alexander, 15, of Yardville, passed away on Monday at home.

Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong Yardville resident. Dale graduated from Alice Drive Middle School and was currently a sophomore at Hamilton High School East. He was active in Narcotics Anonymous in both Hamilton and Princeton. Dale loved to fish and enjoyed football, ping pong, boating and horseback riding. He was a talented writer of poetry and truly expressed himself through his artistic ability. Family traditions and holidays were a special part of Dale's life.

Grandson of the late Joan M. Patterson and Peggy and Michael Alexander, he is survived by his parents, Linda M. (Patterson) Kupersmit of Yardville and John K. and Barbara Alexander of Mayesville; his brother, Keith W. Alexander of Yardville; his stepsister, Chelsea Kupersmit of Hamilton; his stepbrother and his wife, Kirk and Cindy Partyka of Trenton; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, N.J.

Interment will follow in Crosswicks cemetery, Crosswicks, N.J.

Relatives and friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Colonial Home.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dale's memory to the N.J. Regional Service Conference of Narcotics Anonymous, P.O. Box 4298, Trenton, NJ 08618 - 4298.

SAMMIE CAMPBELL

Sammie Campbell, 69, died Nov. 22, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 9, 1934, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Sam Campbell and Mary Hunter Campbell. Sammie attended the public schools of Sumter County. He was a lifelong, faithful member of the Willow Grove AME Church, where he served in many capacities throughout his lifetime including member of the steward board, a former trustee, member of the Sunday school and wherever his gifts and talents were needed. He was formerly employed by the Sloan Asphalt Co. for many years. Later, he worked at the May Plant of the DuPont Co., where he provided more than 30 years of service until his retirement on Nov. 30, 1993. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening for everyone in the neighborhood. He specialized in collard greens, okra and turnip greens. He also took great pride in providing transportation to those in need. He reached out to many friends and neighbors who will miss him, not only for what he did for others, but for the essence of who he was.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee Campbell; and a sister, Susie James Mitchell.

He leaves to cherish precious memories two daughters, Loretta Campbell James and Shirley Ann Campbell, both of New York; four brothers, Francis (Ruth) Campbell of Dalzell, Wallace Campbell of Washington, D.C., William S. (Josephine) Campbell and Stevenson (Dawn) Campbell, both of Columbia; four sisters, Precious Wilson of Dalzell, Dorothy P. (Leroy) Howard and Mary Ree (Leroy) Ramsey, both of Sumter, and Irene (Sam) Simmons of Cross; one grandchild, Michael James; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Willow Grove AME Church, Horatio, with the Rev. Antonio Bonner, pastor, assisted by the Rev. James Coleman and the Rev. Laddie N. Howard. Burial will be in Willow Grove AME Church cemetery.

The funeral procession will leave at 1 p.m. from the residence of his brother, Francis (Ruth) Campbell, 2930 Ben Sanders Road, Dalzell.

MONROE BENBOW

SUMMERTON - Monroe Benbow, 90, widower of Emma Lemon Benbow, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility, Summerton.

Born Oct. 3, 1913, in Davis Station, Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Cleveland Benbow and Nancy Davis Benbow.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Charlotte B. Smith, Holly Court Apartments, No. 5 - I, 211 Dickson St., Manning.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

DOROTHY REMBERT McGEE

CAMDEN - Dorothy "Da Da" Rembert McGee, 37, wife of Benjamin McGee, died Nov. 25, 2003, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.

The daughter of Pauline Rembert and the late Frank D. Grant, she was born Oct. 25, 1966, in Sumter County.

She attended the public schools of Sumter County. She was a fantastic softball player on the 521 All - star Team. She had a competitive spirit and a warm heart. She was a member of the Rafting Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Benjamin "BJ" McGee Jr.; two daughters, Schcara Rembert, Kimberly McGee, all of the home; three brothers, Francis Rembert of Washington, D.C., Eugene Rembert and Clyde Grant, both of Rembert; four sisters, Sandra R. McCray, Hattie Mae Powell, Shirley A. Bradford, all of Rembert, and Brenda Adams of Elgin.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the Rafting Creek Baptist Church in Rembert with the Rev. Dr. Charles H. Davis, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lillian Reynold and Minister Frank Williams Jr.

Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard cemetery.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be the 521 All - star Softball Team.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:45 p.m. from the home, 1465 Halley Road in Camden.

WATKIN WHITE III

FLORENCE - Funeral service for Mr. Watkin White III will be 2 p.m. today in the St. John United Methodist Church in Lynchburg directed by Bacote Funeral Home of Timmonsville.

Mr. White died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, in Savannah, Ga.

He was born in Bronx, N.Y., the son of Watkin and Ivory Nell Lowery White Jr. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1982. He attended Hampton University and pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was also a Mason. While in college, he was in the Army Reserves and after college he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at the Navy Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla., where he resided for several years before making his home in Savannah, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Rua White; a daughter, Tresair A. White; his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Watkin (Ivory) White Jr.; a sister, Veronica (Raiford) Deloach; nephews, Raiford III and Alexander Deloach; a niece, Saraya Deloach; seven uncles; seven aunts; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at 130 E. Westford Road, Florence.

LOUIS WHEELER

LYNCHBURG - We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Louis Wheeler, who died as a result of a car accident Nov. 26, 2003. He was the son of Oliver and Laura Legrant. The family will receive friends at the home, 71 Timmon St. in Lynchburg. Funeral services will be announced by Commercial Funeral Home in Lynchburg.

RAYMOND B. WILD

Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Raymond B. Wild, 70, husband of Elizabeth Sylvia Bailey Wild, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at his residence.

Sgt. Wild was born in Plainfield, Vt., the son of the late Bert and Hazel Wheeler Wild. He retired from the Air Force as a master sergeant after 26 years including service in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He later worked as a woodworking instructor at the Sumter Development Learning Center. He was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he sang in the church choir and was a member of the Seekers Sunday School class. He was a member of the Emmaus community, the Hillcrest Masonic Lodge No. 397 and was also active in Kairos Prison Ministries.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Lisa Wild Vannoy and her husband, Larry, of Madison, Ala.; three sisters, Beverly Wild Richardson of Montpelier, Vt., Doris Wild Canning of Orange, Mass., and Rita Wild Hart of Swanzey, N.H.; three grandchildren, Jessica Vannoy Sheridan and her husband, Jay, of Franklin, Tenn., Ashley Vannoy and Adam Vannoy, both of Madison, Ala.; and one great - grandchild, Joshua Raymond Vannoy Atchley of Madison, Ala.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Wild Grout.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Louis Jamison officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Larry Vannoy, Adam Vannoy, Marvin Vannoy, Jay Sheridan, Douglas Gilbert and Clifton Bailey.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 211 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150, and Tuomey Hospice, 232 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home & Crematorium to handle the arrangements.
