LOTTIE H. TEMONEY

Lottie H. Temoney, 66, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born June 25, 1937, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Sanders and Drusilla Lee Hart.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1290 Boulevard Road.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc.

ERNEST ALSBROOKS

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Mr. Ernest Alsbrooks, 81, beloved husband of Georgia Ann Alsbrooks entered into rest Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Eisenhower Medical Center in Fort Gordon.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 24, 2004, from the chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Gordon Robinson and Rev. Steve Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the commencement of services.

Additional survivors include three sons, Raymond Alsbrooks and his wife, Jami, of Williston, S.C., Robert Ellis Alsbrooks and his wife, Sharon, of Flager, Fla., and Michael D. Barker and his wife, Jo, of Alpharetta, Ga.; three daughters, Bonnie A. McKelvy of her husband, Milton Peterson, of Yorba Linda, Calif., Jeanne and her husband William A. McDowell of Ashland, Va., and Elizabeth and her husband, John M. Wills, of Greenville; two sisters, Juanita A. Elders of Lynchburg, Va., and Katie A. McDuffie of Sumter; a brother, Alfred Alsbrooks of Sumter; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Alsbrooks was a native of Sumter and has lived in the Augusta area since 1967. He retired as a master sergeant from the United States Air Force and served in Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Germany during WWII. He also was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, with one bronze star and the National Defense Service Medal.

Honorary pallbearers for the funeral will be Dr. Charles Noble, Reedy P. Herring, Lyle Wolfgram, Clarence O'Neal, Pete O'Neal, Ben Lively, Kenneth Hartsoe, David Florence, Steve Alsbrooks, Bobby McDuffie, Ray Bourne, Otis Harrison and Dale Wycoff.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.

Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road in Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.

WILTON WELLS JR.

MAYESVILLE – Wilton Wells Jr., 88, widower of Estelle Watson Wells, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at the residence, 89 Eagle Lane in Mayesville.

Born Jan. 15, 1916, in the Georgetown Community of Lee County, he was the son of the late Wilton Wells Sr. and Maryann Franklin Wells.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Mary W. Brown, 81 Eagle Lane in Mayesville.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc.

CHARLES A. AVIN

FLORENCE -- Charles Aubrey Avin, 68, of 2417 S. Purvis Drive, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, in a Florence hospital, after an illness.

Mr. Avin was born in Pinewood, S.C., a son of the late Perry and Maggie Johnson Avin. He was a retired truck driver from SoCAr after 18 years of service. Mr. Avin was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, fisherman, baseball coach, truck driver and just a good man.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce A. Avin of the home; three sons, Marty Avin of Greensboro, N.C., Chris (Tracy) Avin of Florence, David (Tressa) Avin of Edenton, N.C.; one daughter, Carol (Bill) Carleson of Nashville, Tenn.; three brothers, P.M. (Nellie) Avin and Wallace (Martha Ann) Avin both of Florence, and Joe (Kenny) Avin of Summerton; two sisters, Lois Hobbs of Dallas and Ruth (Coleman) Stoke of Laurens; seven stepchildren, Kent Gray of Tennessee, Cindy (Bryan) Irvin of North Carolina, Van (Lisa) Johnson, Lisa (Tony) Miles, Lynn (Andy) Welch and Laura Johnson all of Pamplico, and Leslie J. (Thomas) Brooks of Florence;seven grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Avin, and a sister, Gladys Tony.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. today.

Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence is in charge of funeral arrangements.

THOMAS E. WILSON JR.

Thomas E. "Tommy" Wilson Jr. died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his home.

Funeral services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

ELEAZER LONEY

TEMPLE HILL, Md. – Eleazer Loney, husband of Alphea Loney, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at a local hospital in Maryland.

He was a son of Julia Dinkins Loney and the late Arthur Loney.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethesda Baptist Church in Temple Hill.

Bell Funeral Home in Maryland is in charge of arrangements.

HENRY MCDUFFIE

BISHOPVILLE -- Henry McDuffie, the son of Tom McDuffie and the late Louise Gilford McDuffie, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Carolina Pines Regional Center in Hartsville.

He attended Lee County public schools.

His survivors are his father; four brothers, Louis (Nell) McDuffie of Orange, N.J., Robert McDuffie of Patterson, N.J., William (Sarah) McDuffie of Bishopville and Charles (Elesia) McDuffie of Sumter; six sisters, Jessie Mae McDaniel of Newark, N.J., Delores (Lewis) Adams, Carrie Ann (Edward) Spann of Bishopville, Lorine (Edgar) Durant of Elliott, Helen (Glendell) Moses of Bishopville, Sandra (Jasper) McLeod of Rembert; one aunt and two uncles.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. W.C. Wilks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

PHILLIP L. DiGEORGE

EASTOVER -- Phillip L. "Pilgrim" DiGeorge, 62, husband of Karen C. "Sunshine" DiGeorge, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, in Lexington.

Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter.

WILHEMINA PACK BILLUPS

PLAINFIELD, N.J. -- Wilhemina Pack Billups, widow of Charlie Billups, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004. She was 97.

Born Oct. 3, 1906, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Cecilia Rose Pack.

Funeral services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc.

SUSIE MAE JACKSON

Susie Mae "Coota-Foot" Jackson, wife of Harry Jackson, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. She was 60.

Born Sept. 16, 1943, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Cammie Budden Pringle and Wash Pringle Sr.

She was a lifelong member of Enon Baptist Church and later attended New Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors in addition to her husband include her daughter, Cammie (Fredrick Sumter) Jackson of the home; two adopted children, Ebony I. Brown and Alquan Brown, both of Sumter; her brother, Wash (Rebecca) Pringle Jr. of Bronx, N.Y.; two sisters, Rosa Lee (the Rev. Clarence) Taylor of Olympia, Wash., and Geneva McDaniel of Sumter; two special nieces, Lastarza (Michael) Rose and Denise N. McDaniel of Sumter; two special nephews, the Rev. Quincy (Michelle) Pringle of Winnsboro and Isiah (Sharee) McDaniel of Marietta, Ga.; two special cousins (best friends), Bessie Scott and Lelia Montgomery, both of Sumter; five aunts; two uncles; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Brown and Priscilla Pringle; two grandparents, Ruth Anderson Pringle and Johnny Pringle Sr.; and her granddaughter, Ta'Zhiyan Iyanna Quantez Brown.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry C. Weston, pastor, and the Rev. Moses Dingle will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Clarence Taylor. Burial will be in Beulah cemetery.

Pallbearers and floral bearers will be family and friends.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The funeral procession will leave from 514 W. Oakland St. at 1:40 p.m. Friends can also visit the family there.

Sumter Funeral Service Inc. is in charge of funeral arrangements.

LILLIE MAE COLEMAN

REMBERT -- Lillie Mae Coleman, 50, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Kershaw County Medical Center.

She was born June 23, 1952, in Greenville, and was a daughter of the late George Coleman and Victoria Davis.

She was employed at Creech Seed Orchard in Wedgefield for 16 years. After her years of working she became a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her companion, James Mayrant Jr. of the home and son, Lamont McFadden; two sons, Derrick Coleman and Jermaine McFadden, both of Columbia; four brothers, George Coleman, Gene (Linda) Coleman and Theodore Coleman, all of Columbia, and Keith Coleman of Newark, N.J.; two sisters, Betty Coleman and Thelma (Robert) Carter, both of Columbia; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rafting Creek Baptist Church in Rembert. The Rev. Dr. Charles H. Davis, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Eugene Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

The funeral procession will leave from 5381 Mayrant Road in Rembert at 1:30 p.m. The family also will receive friends there.

Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of funeral arrangements.

KATHARINE H. COWLES

Katharine H. Cowles, 100, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Morningside of Sumter.

She was born Feb. 17, 1903, in Glastonbury, Conn.

Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced Bullock Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

CHARLES M. BARRETT

MANNING – Charles M. "Dick" Barrett, 88, died Sunday morning in Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton.

Born Nov. 14, 1915, in Manning, he was a son of the late Charlie Bass and Mary Lloyd Barrett. He was a retired civil service commissary clerk at Shaw Air Force Base, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Manning First Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sisters, Margaret Windham of Florence, Mary E. Tennant of Sumter, Grace Hodge of St. Matthews and Dorothy Coker of Alcolu; two brothers, Harry E. Barrett of Manning and Willis C. Barrett of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Revs. Carey McElveen and Morris Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Memorials may be made to Tuomey Hospice, 232 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of the arrangements.
