THOMAS EDWARD WILSON Jr.

Thomas Edward Wilson Jr., age 62, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his residence.

He was born in Bishopville, a son of Elsie Cain Wilson and the late Thomas Edward Wilson Sr. He was a U.S. Marine and attended St. Andrews College. He retired from Bonitz Contracting Co. of Columbia and Savannah, Ga., after 30 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the Civitan Club. He was of the Methodist faith and was a former member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother of Sumter are one brother, Ronald H. Wilson of Sumter and one sister, Brenda Wilson Connor of Home Branch.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Cheryl Wilson Copeland.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clanton officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumter cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bullock Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Crosswell Baptist Church, 604 Mathis St., Sumter, SC 29150.

RAYMOND E. RISSLING

Retired Lt. Col. Raymond E. Rissling, age 75, husband of 47 years to Virginia Wardrup Rissling, passed on to eternal rest on the 24th of January at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Mr. Rissling was born on May 19, 1928, in Chicago, the son of the late Elmer Rissling and Ruby W. Rissling. He grew up in Chicago, except for a period of years when the family lived in St Lucia, British West Indies. Upon graduation from Foreman High School, Chicago, in 1946, Mr. Rissling joined the army and served with the 1st Cavalry Division, U.S. occupation forces, Tokyo. In December 1947 he returned to the United States and served in the Army Reserve and then the Illinois Air National Guard. He attended Wright Junior College in Chicago. He later earned a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y. In February 1951, Mr. Rissling joined the U.S. Air Force and attended aviation cadet school at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, fulfilling a lifelong dream to become a pilot. He served 23 years as a pilot with the Air Force. Mr. Rissling had more than 7, 543 total military flying hours and more than 736 combat flying hours, including 547 combat sorties in southeast Asia. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force in 1974, Mr. Rissling worked with the S.C. Department of Social Services in Sumter, first as a caseworker and then as assistant director of the Sumter County office. After retiring from the Department of Social Services in 1987, Mr. Rissling dedicated many volunteer hours to the Shaw Air Force Base Pharmacy, drove kidney dialysis patients from Sumter to Charleston or Columbia for dialysis treatment, and served in various volunteer activities with the Shaw Air Force Base Chapel and other community organizations. He was a member of numerous benevolent and fraternal organizations including the Air Force Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilot's Association, the Kyushu Gypsies, the Retired Officers Association, the Military Officers Association of America, the American Legion, the 1st Cavalry Division Association, the Sumter Optimist Club, the Mission Aviation Foundation, the Hillcrest Masonic Lodge, the First Presbyterian Church of Middlesborough, Ky., and the Shaw Air Force Base Protestant Men of the Chapel.

Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years of marriage, Virginia, of Sumter; one son, Col. R. Eric Rissling and his wife, Karen Pawluk Rissling, of Laurel, Md; one daughter, Cherlynn Venit and her husband, John Venit Jr., of Laurel, Md.; one brother, Donald L. Rissling, of Holden, Mass.; seven grandchildren David K. Rissling-Venit, Erin N. Rissling, Laura M. Rissling, Neil R. Rissling, Steven J. Rissling, Kellianne Venit, and John (Jay) Venit III, all of Laurel, Md.; and his cousin, Audrey Fletcher of Chicago.

Mr. Rissling was preceded in death by a son, Steven K. Rissling.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Shaw Air Force Base Palmetto Chapel with Chaplain Cliff Short officiating. Internment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bullock Funeral Home, with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Tuomey Foundation, Jeanne C. Watson Oncology Unit, 115 N. Sumter St., Suite 120, Sumter, SC 29150, or to the International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Drive, Suite 206, North Hollywood, CA 91607-3421.

VEMA H. BRADY

Vema Haley Brady died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at her residence.

Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

CHARLES M. BARRETT

MANNING -- Charles M. "Dick" Barrett, 88, died Sunday morning in Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton.

Born Nov. 14, 1915, in Manning, he was a son of the late Charlie Bass and Mary Lloyd Barrett. He was a retired civil service commissary clerk at Shaw Air Force Base, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Manning First Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sisters, Margaret Windham of Florence, Mary E. Tennant of Sumter, Grace Hodge of St. Matthews and Dorothy Coker of Alcolu; two brothers, Harry E. Barrett of Manning and Willis C. Barrett of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Revs. Carey McElveen and Morris Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Memorials may be made to Tuomey Hospice, 232 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of the arrangements.

LOTTIE H. TEMONEY

Lottie H. Temoney, 66, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born June 25, 1937, in Lynchburg, Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Elder Sanders and Deacon Druesilla Lee Hart Sr. At an early age, she joined Trinity Presbyterian Church (USA) and actively served with the Sunday school, choir and the usher board. She attended St. Matthew School in her youth and graduated from Eastern High School in 1959. After graduation, she moved to New Haven, Conn. She attended and joined Friendship Baptist Church. After returning to South Carolina in 1995, she rejoined Trinity Presbyterian and served faithfully as a deacon, elder, Sunday school assistant, choir member, United Presbyterian Women and the usher board.

Survivors include one son, Glen (Lea M.) Temoney of Jacksonville, N.C.; three brothers, Elder David (Janie) Hart and Joseph (Gloria) Hart, both of Sumter, and Moses Hart of Huntsville, Texas; three sisters, Henrietta H. Whitaker and the Rev. Almeta (Ben) Brunson, both of New Haven, Conn., and Clara (McArthur) Mention of Hemingway; an adopted brother, Willie (Jacqueline) Hart of Sumter; five aunts, Patience Champagne, Carrie B. Wells, Irene McDowell, Geneva J. Lee and Ethel P. Lee; a goddaughter, Melissa Graham of North Carolina; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Sanders Hart Jr.

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday at Trinity Presbyterian Church (USA), Mayesville, with the Rev. Stanley Jones I, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 1290 Boulevard Road, Sumter, SC 29153.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

LeROY L. SMITH Jr.

LeRoy Langrave "Lanny" Smith Jr., 60, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his home in Houston.

Born in Sumter, he was the son of Alma Louise Baker Smith and the late LeRoy L. "Roy" Smith Sr. Mr. Smith was a retired chemical engineer with Bechtel Inc. and a graduate of the University of South Carolina.

Surviving are his mother of Sumter; a brother, Charles T. Smith and wife, Barbara, of Sumter; a sister, Jeannie Jordan and husband, Bill, of Florence; two nieces, Kathy S. Lewis and husband, Zach, of Easley and Lisa Smith of Sumter; two nephews, Bryan Jordan of Miami and Blake Jordan of Clemson.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Walt Kendall officiating.

The family will be receive friends at the home of his mother.

Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 230 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150, or Wilson Hall School, 2801 Wise Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

CATHERINE JACOBS

WEDGEFIELD -- Mrs. Catherine Jacobs, widow of the late Mr. Charlie Jacobs, and daughter of the late Mr. Dawson Sinkler and Virginia Canty, was born Aug. 31, 1935, in Sumter. She departed this life on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Her loving memories will be cherished by four daughters, Pauline (Eddie) Archie of Wedgefield, Susanna Benjamin and Patricia (Gregory) Jacobs of Sumter and Wilheminia Jacobs of the home; three sons, Willie Sinker of the home, Charlie Jacobs Jr. of Wedgefield and Albert Jacobs of Wedgefield; three sisters, Ruth Mae (Freddie) Canty, Carrie Lou Sinkler and Annie Mae (Sam) Williams of Wedgefield; four brothers, Paul Sinkler and Aaron Sinkler, both of the home, Willie (Patricia) Sinkler of Sumter and Leroy Sinkler of Wedgefield; 32 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and two special goddaughters, Gracie Sinkler and Victoria Osborne.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Jacobs; a sister, Janie Lou Bradley; and two brothers, Freddie and William Sinkler.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Wayman Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Laddie Howard, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Wayman Chapel cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 80 Jacob Circle, Wedgefield.

The staff of James Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

THEODORE E. BOONE Jr.

Theodore Edward "Ted" Boone Jr., 76, widower of Eleanor Curtis Rogers Boone, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at his home.

Services will be announced by the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory.

MATTHEW M. BRABHAM Sr.

DALZELL -- Matthew Moye Brabham Sr., 91, husband of Frances L. Brabham, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at a local nursing center.

Services will be announced by the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory.

PHILLIP L. DiGEORGE

EASTOVER -- Phillip L. "Pilgrim" "Butch" DiGeorge, 62, husband of Karen J. "Sunshine" DiGeorge, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, in Lexington.

Born in Whittier, Calif., he was a son of Mary Whitaker DiGeorge and the late Alfred F. "Al" DiGeorge. Pilgrim was a retired command sergeant major from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service. He was also a Vietnam veteran. Pilgrim was the founder and president of the Carolina Rebels Motorcycle Club in Eastover. He was also the Vietnam Vets Chapter 303 in Columbia, and a lifetime member of Amvets, Calif. He was a former state coordinator of S.C. A.B.A.T.E. and a valued member of Sumter County A.B.A.T.E. He was also a member of the American Legion of Columbia. He was employed as a supervisor for Coreslab Structures in Columbia.

Survivors include his wife of Eastover; his mother of Sumter; a daughter, Maria Modesto Carmichael DiGeorge of West Covina, Calif.; two granddaughters, Annalyssa Carmichael and Alexis Carmichael, both of West Covina, Calif.; his ex-wife, Molly Modesto DiGeorge of Seaside, Calif.; and all the brothers and sisters of The Carolina Rebels Motorcycle Club of Eastover and Sumter.

Phillip was a leader of men. His presence, involvement, intellect and leadership were greatly appreciated during his life, and will be sadly missed in his passing.

Pilgrim's last ride will leave from Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, 515 Miller Road, Sumter, at 5 p.m. Friday and will end at The Carolina Rebels clubhouse in Eastover, with a memorial service to begin at 6 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Carolina Rebels Motorcycle Club Building Fund, 1100 Hezekiah Road, Eastover, SC 29044.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

ALLAN L. EDWARDS

Allan Lee Edwards, age 71, husband of the late Naka Sasako Edwards, died on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Plans are incomplete and will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home.

ROBERT E. JERMAN

Mr. Robert Earle Jerman died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 25, 2004, at Roper Hospital. He was 85. Mr. Jerman was born in Gersham on Nov. 17, 1918, to John Preston Jerman and Susan McDonald Bailey Jerman. He graduated from Andrews High School in Andrews. He has been a member of Ashley River Baptist Church since 1951 and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. At the age of 17, Mr. Jerman was employed by Tuttle Construction Co. to carry water to the crew who built the Charleston paper mill. Following completion of the mill, he was then hired by West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. Over the next four decades, he rose to the responsible position of supervisor in the finishing and shipping department. He retired in 1982 after 45 years of employment at WestVaco Corp. He also enjoyed many years of retirement, providing both family and friends with flowers and vegetables from his prolific gardens. He found great pleasure in fishing, carpentry and the view of the tidal creek from his sun porch. He gave generously of his time and skills to help others and leaves a strong legacy of honor, determination and pride to future generations.

He is survived by his precious wife, Johnnie Weathers Jerman; and his brother, John Preston Jerman of Sumter. Mr. Jerman leaves behind five children, Cynthia Jerman Kelly and her husband, Steve, of Slidell, La., Martha Jerman, Robert Earle Jerman Jr. and his wife, Carol, John Thomas Jerman and Leize-Ann Jerman Berry and her husband, Ronnie, of Charleston. He also is survived by three stepchildren, Michael Weathers and his wife, Pat, Scott Weathers and his wife, Becky, and Sheryl Weathers of Charleston; a nephew, Bill Jerman of Lexington; a niece, Susan Jerman Hartley of Brentwood, Tenn.

His wife of nearly 50 years, Quintilla Mims Jerman, preceded him in death.

Mr. Jerman was blessed with eight grandchildren, Kimberly Kelly, Arthur Kelly, Stephanie Kelly, Elizabeth Kelly, Elizabeth Jerman, Rebekah Jerman, Melodye Berry and Allen Berry; and one great-grandchild, Caleb Stephen Kelly.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 2 p.m. today at Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Highway in Charleston. Interment will be at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.

Donations may be made on behalf of the orphans of Romania through Seceris Ministries, P.O. Box 13234, Charleston, SC 29422-3234 or to the Television Ministry of Ashley River Baptist Church.
