Ophelia Miller Leitzsey, 70, of 2655 Mt. Bethel Garmany Road, Newberry, widow of the late Alton Cox and Wilson Leitzsey, died Thursday, August 16, 2006 at her residence.
Mrs. Leitzsey was born on October 24, 1935 in Newberry, a daughter of the late Frank and Thelma Sligh Miller. She was a homemaker and was a member of Newberry Associate Reform Presbyterian Church, the Circle Four and the Friendship Class.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Allen B. and Robin Cox and Frank W. Leitzsey of Newberry; a sister, Emmer Hazel of Newberry; two brothers, Eddie Cloma Miller, Sr. of Newberry and Burnet (Buck) Miller of Aiken; and five grandchildren, Heather Cox, Allison Cox, Austin Cox, Jessica Leitzsey and Samantha Leitzsey. She was predeceased by a brother, John Miller.
Graveside was conducted at 10:30 AM Monday in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family was receiving friends at her residence, 2655 Mt. Bethel Garmany Road.

Clarice Trammell Lolllis
August 18, 2006

Clarice Trammell Lolllis, 81, formerly of Newberry widow of John H. Lollis,died Thursday at Summitt Place.
She was the daughter of the late T.P. and Ada Burrington Turner.
She is survived by three daughters, Nora Drew, Betty Conrad, and Shirley Seegers; a son, John Lollis; a sister Alma Goff; a brother, Thomas Turner; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 A. M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery.
Visitation was from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. The family was at residence of Alma Goff 1547 Dennis Dairy Road,Newberry.

Anna Hiller King
August 17, 2006

Anna Hiller King, 83, of 415 Rodelsperger St., Newberry, widow of Leland King, died Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Palmetto Health Richland.
Mrs. King was born on February 4, 1923 in Newberry, the daughter of the late Edgar L. and Nora Ammons Hiller. She was a retired seamstress with Newberry Laundry, was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church and was a former church choir member and Christian Service Committee member.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mable Hiller and Lin Slaton of Newberry. She was predeceased by two sisters, Cleo H. Morris and Essie Mae H. Ammons and two brothers, George O. “Bubba” Hiller and Walter Hiller.
Funeral services were conducted 3:00 P.M. Monday at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Robert Kasting and the Rev. Dr. Robert McCollum. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church choir Robe Fund, 1307 Drayton St., Newberry SC 29108.
Active pallbearers wer Edward Slaton, Danny Hiller, Milton Shealy, Butch Price, Mike O’Connell, Harold Hunter, Danny Stone and Arnold Hiller. Honorary pallbearers were Sherri Morris, Sherry Cromer, Tommy Ann Danielson, Robbie Hunter, Dora Sue Livingston, Linda McCollum, Wayne Hiller, Anna Marie Lyda, Barbara Swygert, Catherine Miles, Carla Creekmore and the members of the West End Seniors.

Robert P. Gillotte
August 15, 2006

Robert P. Gillotte, 88, of 3924 Parkman Drive, died Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at his residence.
Mr. Gillotte was born on June 25, 1918, in Oran, Algeria, the only son of the late Charles and Henriette Holdrinet Gillotte. He was a member of St.John's Episcopal Church, Wheat Street, where he previously served as a member of the Vestry and helped to organize the usher program. He served in the French Air Force during World War II and trained at several American Air Force bases before being stationed at the Hawthorne School of Aeronautics in Orangeburg, S.C. While in Orangeburg, he was an instructor for aspiring
French pilots, providing them with primary training in theory of flight and aerodynamics. It is in Orangeburg that he met his future wife, Alma "Sandy" Blackmon, who he married shortly after the war. Discharged from the French Air Force in 1946, Mr. Gillotte was subsequently employed by the Allis-Chalmers Export Service Department in Milwaukee, WI.
In 1949, he proudly obtained his American citizenship. Due to his father's failing health, he returned with his family to his native Algeria in 1953 to take over the family business. The family departed Algeria and returned to
America in 1959, following an escalation in fighting during that country's civil war. The family temporarily settled in Chappells, SC, where he served on the Town Council. Shortly after Mr. Gillotte's parents immigrated to the States in 1962, he moved the family to Columbia and started the Robert P. Gillotte Co., Inc. Specializing in the sale of Oblique files imported from France, Mr. Gillotte became the sole distributor for the product in the United States, setting up hundreds of dealerships throughout the country. He was also responsible for opening distribution channels for Oblique in Canada
and Australia. The company was eventually purchased by Atlantic Envelope, a division of (Fortune 500) National Service Industries. Mr. Gillotte was an active member of the Rotary Club International and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Columbia and Five Points Rotary
Clubs, and successfully served as District Chairman of the foreign/domestic Youth Exchange Program. Mr. Gillotte also served as Secretary and President of the World War II Hawthorne Pilot Training Association, a post-war
memorial organization.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alma "Sandy" Blackmon Gillotte; two daughters and sons-in-law, Danielle and Bill Hawley of Columbia, and Sylvia Lynn Gillotte and Sidney Ettedgui of Sarasota, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jan Gillotte of Columbia; nine grandchildren,
Claire Gillotte Dunn, Leslie Gillotte, Paula Gillotte, Malsert Chapman, Nicole Gordon, Erin Mewshaw, Bertin Mewshaw, Jeremy Ettedgui, and Jason Ettedgui.
Funeral services was conducted at 10:30 AM Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church by the Rev. J. Fletcher Montgomery. Interment did follow in Chappells (S.C.) Baptist Church Cemetery, at 3:00 PM.
Visitation was from 5:30 to 7:30 PM Friday at the residence.

Lila Woodson Bagwell
August 15, 2006

Lila Woodson Bagwell, 94, widow of Hardy L. “Pete” Bagwell of Springfield Place in Newberry, died Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at her residence.
Mrs. Bagwell was born on October 23, 1911 in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Eugene F. and Cordelia Browning Woodson. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bagwell is survived by two sons, Ervin Bagwell of North Myrtle Beach Ron Bagwell of Newberry; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Friday at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon. Interment was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6:30 to 7:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home and the family was at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Bagwell 1516 Boundary St., Newberry.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1020 Boundary St., Newberry SC 29108.

E. Carroll DeVore
August 15, 2006

E. Carroll DeVore, 89, of 3538 SC Highway 560, Kinards, died Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at his residence.
Mr. DeVore was born on May 7, 1917 in Newberry, a son of the late Frank P. Mamie DeVore. He received his Business Degree from Newberry College and was an Army veteran of WW II. He retired from the S.C. National Guard with 38 years of service. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, NARFE, the Newberry Council on Aging, and the Village Square Square Dancers.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Dr. Clovis Pierce of Kinards; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Martha DeVore of Kinards; three grandchildren, Dena Parducci Iusti, Michael DeVore Parducci, and Leigh DeVore Smith; and four great grandchildren, Hanna Lee Iusti, Joseph Braden Iusti, Mary Elizabeth Iusti, and Hunter Michael Smith. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Marise Bedenbaugh DeVore, one sister, Mary Dawkins; and two brothers, Frank DeVore and Roy DeVore.
Funeral services with military honors were conducted at 11:00 AM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Ann Dease Everett and the Rev. William A. Hightower. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home and the family will be at his residence.
Memorials may be made to Hopewell UMC, c/o Cheryl Ettinger, 3028 Hopewell Church Rd., Kinards, SC 29355.
Honorary pallbearers were William Crawford, Ray Whiteford, Joe Edwards, Yoder Bedenbaugh, Randolph Johnson, Lawrence Young, John Earl Smith, Dewey Floyd and Don Longshore.

Rev. Dr. Paul Barrier Beatty, Jr.
August 10, 2006

Rev. Dr. Paul Barrier Beatty, Jr., 74, of Hickory NC, died Thursday, August 10, 2006 in Hickory.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1931 in China Grove, NC, and a son of the late Paul Barrier and Wilkie Lenora Patterson Beatty. He was a retired Lutheran minister having retired from Reformation Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taylors, NC. He was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elma Jean Piester Beatty; sons and spouses, John Christian Beatty of Hickory, Daniel Christopher and Jennifer Beatty of Atlanta and Mark Stephen and Dena Renee Beatty of Portland OR; three grandchildren Zachary Daniel Beatty, Alexander Walker Betty both of Atlanta, and Lauren Renee Beatty of Portland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rachel and George Kahl of Brevard, NC, Marie Robinson of Dallas, NC, Patricia and John Moore of Charlotte, and Alan Piester of Newberry.
Funeral services were conducted 11:00 AM Monday at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Interment was in St. Philips Lutheran Church in Newberry.
Visitation was from 7 to 8:30 PM Sunday at Hickory Funeral Home in Hickory NC.
Hickory Funeral Home and Whitaker Funeral Home are the family.
