THEODORE E. BOONE Jr.

Theodore Edward "Ted" Boone Jr., 76, widower of Eleanor Curtis Rogers Boone, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at his home.

Born in Rowesville, he was a son of the late Theodore Edward Boone Sr. and the late Bernice Fairey Boone. Mr. Boone was twice married , first to the late Mary Lou Medders Boone and then to the late Eleanor Curtis Rogers Boone.

Mr. Boone was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the FaHoLo Sunday School Class. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and a U.S. Army World War II and Korean War veteran. He was a retired executive with DuPont in Wilmington, Del., with 35 years of service.

Surviving are five sons, Theodore E. "Trey" Boone III of Columbia, James Alan Boone and wife, Cathy, of Columbia, Robert George Burns of Columbia, Dr. James Hoyt Rogers Jr. of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Richard Curtis Rogers and wife, Debbie, of Greenville; two daughters, Cathy Boone Weeks and husband, Karl, of Columbia and Captain Debbie Rogers Fisette and husband, Bob, of Sumter; a sister, Emily Boone Stroman and husband, Ernest, of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Matthew Curtis Rogers, James Edward Lambert, Amanda Kathryn Rogers, Jennifer Leigh Boone, James Adams Rogers, Sarah Elizabeth Boone and Virginia Brook Boone.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in New Hope cemetery in Rowesville.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the FaHoLo Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 226 W. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150, or to New Hope United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 54, Rowesville, S.C.

DANIEL E. BRADFORD

Daniel Eugene "Danny" Bradford, 32, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, in St. Kitts, West Indies.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of Dr. Linwood G. Bradford and Shellie Simpson Bradford. Mr. Bradford was a member of Church Creek Presbyterian Church in Charleston. He was a graduate of Thomas Sumter Academy, a 1995 graduate of The Citadel, where he was commander of Kilo Company, a member of the Summerall Guards and the Junior Sword Drill. While at The Citadel, he earned The Parachute Badge and Air Assault Badge. He was currently a graduate student of The School of Veterinary Medicine at Ross University in St. Kitts, West Indies. He was president of the Emergency Veterinary Medicine Club at Ross University.

Surviving are his parents of Sumter; three brothers, Linwood G. "Gray" Bradford Jr. of Cary, N.C., the Rev. Davy Bradford of Savannah, Ga., and Nat Bradford of Seneca; a sister, Joy Bradford of Clemson; paternal grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Theron Bradford of Sumter; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Simpson.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Walt Kendall and the Rev. E.C. Wittig officiating.

Burial will be in the Sumter cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Roland Russell, Tim Russell, Bobby Russell, Vic Jones, Jimmy Newman and John Wright.

Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Jones, Chris McDuffie, James Ray, Roosevelt Taylor, Jim Lemmon, Chris Crolley, Cameron Tanner and Pel Bradford.

The family will receive friends at the home of his parents, 5275 DuBose Siding Road.

VIRGINIA KEYS

Virginia Keys died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

The family will receive friends at 3320 Root Road, Horatio.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

MANNING -- Charles M. "Dick" Barrett's funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with a visitation prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

FRED PLEASANT

MANNING -- Fred "Joe Lewis" Pleasant, 64, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Tony and Sarah Pleasant.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Alex and Gloria Gadson, 42 W. Patricia Drive.

Services will be announced by Sumter Funeral Service Inc.

MARY JANE D. SCOTT

SUMMERTON -- Mary Jane Duke Scott, 50, wife of Stewart Stanley Scott Sr., died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at her home in North Santee.

Born March 19, 1953, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of David Hartwill and Mary Irene Freeman Duke. Her husband is the owner of Jack's Creek Marina and she was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving besides her parents of Manning and husband of North Santee are a daughter, Kimberly Jane Cooper and husband, Richard, of North Santee; a son, Stewart Stanley Scott Jr. of North Santee; a stepson, Richard Lee Archibald and wife, Brenda, of Goose Creek; three brothers, Paul Hartwill Duke and wife, Mary Ann, of Manning, David Autry Duke and wife, Betty, of Sumter, and Michael Bruce Duke and wife, Jodi, of Manning; four grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Ann Duke Davis; and a nephew, Randy Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Revs. Gene Mosier and Richard Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Paxville cemetery.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

JANIE MAE R. PRINCE

Mrs. Janie Mae Rose Prince departed this earthly life on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 24, 2004, at the Carolinas Hospital System in Florence.

Born in Clarendon County on Jan. 29, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Harvey and Mrs. Maggie Preston Rose.

Mrs. Prince was educated in both the Clarendon and Sumter County public schools. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Melina Presbyterian Church where she served faithfully as a member until her health failed. She was formerly united in marriage to Robert Prince Sr. and to this loving union five children weaved their lives together to become a close-knit family. Janie was very devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was a sweet, loving person who always went out of her way to help others.

In addition to her parents, Janie was preceded in death by six brothers, John D., Hazel, Harvey, George, James, and John Henry Rose; and two sisters, Eva B. Johnson and Rose Lee Hampton.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, five loving children, Robert B. (Gladys) Prince Jr. and Ronald K. Prince, both of the home, Roberta (Tommy) Brown, Maggie (Larry) Harrison and Teresa M. (Tony) Prince, all of Lynchburg; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary L. McFadden of Lynchburg and Margaret L. (Benjamin) Rowe of Philadelphia, Pa.; her mother-in-law, Marie Hardy Prince; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Melina Presbyterian Church (USA), Sardinia, with the Rev. Carnell Hampton, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Mary Rose-Hagan.

The remains will be placed in the church until the hour of service.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Funeral procession will leave at 2 p.m. from the residence, 300 Old St. John Church Road, Lynchburg.

The family will receive friends at the home, 300 Old St. John Church Road, Lynchburg.

REO R. WASHINGTON

GOOSE CREEK -- Reo Richburg Washington, 51, of 5055 Harbour Lake Drive, Apt. 2-C, Goose Creek, and wife of George L. Washington, died Jan. 26, 2004, at Trident Medical Center, Charleston.

Born June 5, 1952, in Summerton, Clarendon County, she was a daughter of Moses Richburg and Elder Rebecca McGett Richburg. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County and attended Central Carolina in Sumter.

Survivors besides her husband, George L. Washington of Goose Creek, and parents, Moses and Elder Rebecca Richburg of Summerton, include one daughter, Valerie Richburg of Goose Creek; four brothers, Curnell Bennett and Ernest Lee (Jean) Richburg, both of Summerton, Andre Richburg of Manning and Moses Richburg Jr. of Moreno Valley, Calif.; and three sisters, Thelma (Robert) Uzzell of Dundalk, Md., Willie Mae Gibson of Summerton and Selinda Cabbagestalk of Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning, with Pastor Esther L. Madison officiating, assisted by Pastor Gloria S. Brown.

Burial will be in Westminister Presbyterian Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of her parents, Moses and Elder Rebecca M. Richburg, 5218 Wash Davis Road, Davis Crossroad section of Summerton.

MELLA MAE B. ALSTON

Mrs. Mella Mae Brock Alston departed this earthly life on Monday, March 8, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born in Clarendon County on Dec. 26, 1924, she was the third of nine children born to the late Rev. Luther S. and Mrs. Carrie Mack Brock. Mrs. Alston was educated in the public schools of Manning and Sumter. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and Morris College. She completed further studies in cosmetology. Later, she was employed as a long-distance telephone operator for the AT&T Telephone Co. in New York.

She was a lifelong member of the St. Matthew Baptist Church and served faithfully wherever her gifts and talents were needed. While residing in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a member and manager of the former Triumph Gospel Singers. In 1990, she returned to the Sumter community, where she enjoyed growing beautiful flowers, gardening and singing. Next to her love of God was her devotion to her husband, whom she loved dearly. In 2000, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the IBG Daycare Center in Sumter, surrounded by loving and supportive family and friends.

"Mae, " as she was affectionately called, was a long-suffering woman who put the cares of others before her own. She was a faithful soldier in the Master's Army. Death cannot remove what our loved one has meant to us. God has only claimed his gift to humanity. We are thankful for the time that we shared together.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Martin Luther, John E., James A. and Edward S. Brock.

Loving and fond memories will be cherished and remembered by her beloved husband, James H. Alston of Sumter; two brothers, Lincoln C. (Ruth) Brock of Sumter, Beauregard (Flossie) Brock of New York; two sisters, Agnes B. (Clinton) Bullock of Fort Washington, Md.; a sister, Inez B. (Jasper) Goodman of Sumter; a foster sister, Doretha Sinkler; a godchild, Phylicia Rene Goodman (and her father, Ray Idan, were named by "Mae") of Sumter; a host of nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Lena, Corine and Dorothy, all of North Carolina, and Mary of Boston; brothers-in-law, Willie of Boston, Sexton of New York, George of North Carolina and Tom Alston of Maryland; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthews Baptist Church.

The remains will be placed in the church from noon until the hour of service.

Officiating minister will be the Rev. M.G. Walters, pastor, assisted by the Rev. James A. Blassingame.

Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, Sumter.

Funeral procession will leave at noon from the home of her brother, Lincoln Brock Sr., 998 S. Main St., Sumter.

The family will receive friends at 998 S. Main St., Sumter.

Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.
