KATHLEEN KIND

SUMMERTON -- Ms. Kathleen "Kat" Kind, 33, of 1078 Carter Road, Summerton, companion of Roy Lester Anderson, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at her residence.

Born April 18, 1970, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of Henry Kind and Viola Canty Kind. She was a member of St. Matthew AME Church. She was a 1988 graduate of Scott's Branch High School. She was manager of Shoe Show and Dollar General of Manning until declining health.

Survivors include four sons, Raynard, Rayshard, Antonio and Thomas Kind, all of the home; one daughter, Shyova Kind of the home; three brothers, George (Deloris) Canty of Panola, Jimmy Lee Kind of Charleston and Jamanuel Kind of Port Chester, N.Y.; two sisters, Viola Kind of Summerton and Emma Lue Canty of Manning; one adopted sister, Sadie Williams of Manning; godparents, Deborah (James) Nesbitt of Pinewood; and two god brothers, Keith and Kenneth Nesbitt of Atlanta.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthew AME Church, Moses Dingle Road, Summerton, with the Rev. Manuel Fogle, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Jackie Anderson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott's Branch High School Class of 1988.

Floral bearers will be Scott's Branch High School Class of 1988.

The funeral procession will leave at 3:15 p.m. from 1078 Carter Road, Summerton.

The family will receive friends at 1078 Carter Road, Summerton.

Summerton Funeral Service of Summerton is in charge of arrangements.

MARGARET HILL

Margaret "Marge" Lura Kartychok Hill, age 67, beloved wife of 27 years to Richard Horace Hill, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Waverly, N.Y., a daughter of the late LaBerta Grace Miller and Charles Hunt Phillips. She was a devoted wife and homemaker and enjoyed cooking, crafts and loved animals.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three brothers, Fred Mullen of Hallstead, Pa., John Phillips of Barton, N.Y., and Charles Phillips of Kingston, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Kirkland officiating.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

FRED G. McLEOD Jr.

Fred Gresham McLeod Jr., 54, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at his home.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Fred G. McLeod Sr. and the late Ruby Mathis McLeod. Mr. McLeod was a retired taxi cab driver with Yellow Cab Co.

Surviving are a son, Sgt. Bradley Eugene Holliday of Sumter; two sisters, Sadie Cumbee and Miriam Marsh, both of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, David McLeod and Elmore McLeod; three sisters, Dorothy McLeod, Ernestine Hudson and Mable Rabon.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Paxville cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William "Boot" Ardis, James McFarland, Raymond Barnhill, Robert Gainey, Clifton Ivey, Donnie Holliday and James Amerson.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

JOYCE G. MARSHALL

Joyce Geddings Marshall, 68, widow of George Norton Marshall Jr., died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Sidney Bryan Geddings and the late Margaret Louise Hair Geddings. Mrs. Marshall was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church and former owner and operator of the Plantation Restaurant.

Surviving are a daughter, Sidney Marshall Bessette of Fayetteville, N.C.; a son, Stephen Owen Marshall of Lexington; a sister, Louise Geddings Hatfield and husband, Samuel F., of Sumter; four grandchildren, Jacquelyn Bessette, Stephen Owen Marshall Jr., Kimberly Bessette and Christina Marshall; and three great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Tristen and Kiersten.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Rodney Howard officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her sister, Louise Hatfield, 2625 Pintail Drive.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

KRISTI LYNN BUTLER

MANNING -- Kristi Lynn Butler, 29, wife of Sherman Butler, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia as a result of an automobile accident.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning.

HATTIE LUCILLE 'TOC' PORCHER

Hattie Lucille "Toc" Porcher, 100, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at her residence at 133 Dibert St.

She was born Aug. 4, 1903. in Lee County, the daughter of the late Evans Porcher and Addie Rebecca Scott-Porcher. She was educated in the public schools of Lee County. She accepted the lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She was a faithful member of the Barnettsville Baptist Church and attended church regularly until she became blind in 1969.

Survivors include a daughter, Everlina Porcher of the home; a foster daughter, Julia West of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Sandra McLeod of the home; a stepsister, Hannah McLeod of Bishopville; her godchildren, Addie Dyson, Matthew (Jeannette) Porcher, both of Washington, D.C., the Rev. Gloria Boyd of Ft. Washington, Md., Evans (Willie Mae) Porcher, Charles (Betty) Porcher, Waddell (Vernice) Porcher, all of Sumter, Henry (Annie) Porcher Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Md.; and a play sister Alice Campbell of Sumter.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Deacon Henry Porcher Sr.; a sister, Everlina Porcher Isaac; a godchild, Thelma McBride; four stepsisters, Maggie Heriot, Lyda Cook, Lula Cook and Rebecca Carter; and four stepbrothers, Johnny, William, Sammie and Eugene McLeod.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barnettsville Baptist Church, Mannville-St. Charles Road, Bishopville.

Officiating ministers will be the Rev. Wayne Montgomery, pastor, the Rev. Gloria P. Boyd, who will give the eulogy, assisted by Evan Carrie Muldrow, the Rev. Mary Harvin and the Rev. William Prince.

Burial will be in Barnettsville Baptist Churchyard cemetery, Bishopville.

Pallbearers will be family and friends. Floral bearers will be family and friends.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:15 p.m. from the home at 1033 Dibert St., Sumter.

DIGGS O. HILL Sr.

GREENVILLE -- Diggs Olanda Hill Sr., 64, husband of Doris Taylor Hill, died March 8, 2004, in Greenville.

Born Dec. 17, 1939, in Dalzell, he was a son of the late James Harrison and Ralphenia Diggs Hill. Mr. Hill received his early childhood education from the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Ebenezer High School in 1957. In furthering his education, he was a graduate of S.C. State University (Bachelor of Science) and received a Master of Science degree in public administration and financial management from American University, Washington, D.C. He retired as a district director for the Farmers Home Administration with the USDA-S.C. Headquarter. He was employed with DSS as a child support specialist until his death. He was a faithful member of Springfield Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, former Sunday school superintendent, president of the Brotherhood Ministry, Prayer Service/Bible study leader and committee member for numerous auxiliaries. He also was active with many church related organizations in the community including the Enoree River Baptist Brotherhood Auxiliaries, where he served as secretary. He was vice basileus of Mu Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and a life member of the NAACP.

Survivors besides his wife of 40 years include two sons, Rodney Leon Hill and Diggs Olanda (Demetria) Hill Jr.; one grandson, Darius Hill; one granddaughter, Danielle Hill, all of Greenville; one brother, Eddie W. (Rudine) Hill of Newark, N.J.; five sisters, Mattie Mae Hill, Calpurnia (George) Gethers, both of Dalzell, Ralphenia Hill of District Heights, Md., Ida Clark of Clinton, Md., Gracie (Carl) Alexander of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one uncle, Manning Diggs of Rembert; a loving mother-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Taylor.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary, 1011 Augusta St., Greenville.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Springfield Baptist Church, 600 E. McBee Ave., Greenville.

The family will receive friends at the home, 506 Hudson Road, Greenville, SC 29615.

HERBERT JUNIUS Jr.

SUMMERTON -- Herbert "Bo Bo" Junius Jr., 43, of 1046 Governor Richardson Road, Summerton, husband of Janet Bannister Junius, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, in Clarendon County as the result of an automobile accident.

Born March 25, 1960, in Clarendon County, he was a son of Rachel Oliver Junius and the late Herbert Junius Sr. He was a member of Greater St. Phillip RUME Church. He was a 1977 graduate of Scott's Branch High School. He was employed by EMS/American Griabon Inc. He served his country for five years in the United States Navy with an honorable discharge in 1989 and two years in the Reserves.

Survivors besides his wife and mother of Summerton include four sons, Lashaun Fremorris, Tyrone Donnel, Darius O'Mar and Justin Raquan Junius, all of the home; two brothers, Willie Junius of Summerton and James (Lucille) Junius of Thomasville, N.C.; three sisters, Rosena (Elijah) Briggs, Jackie (Moses) Jones and Sadie (Edmond) Scott, all of Summerton; and a goddaughter, Jaleesa Bowman.

Family hour will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at 23 S. Duke St., Summerton.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10:45 a.m. Saturday with family viewing from 11:40 a.m. until noon. There will be no viewing after the services.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at Liberty Hill AME Church, Summerton, with the Rev. Melvin J. Capers, pastor, the Rev. Warren Hatcher officiating, assisted by the Rev. Amos Hatcher and the Rev. J. Clark.

Burial will be at Greater St. Phillip RUME Church, Pinewood.

Pallbearers will be Scott's Branch High School Class of 1977.

Floral bearers will be Scott's Branch High School Class of 1977.

FERNANDE HARBISTON

WALTERBORO -- Mrs. Fernande "Paulette" Harbiston, 77, wife of Mr. James "Jim" Harbiston, of 133 Wildwood Drive, Walterboro, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Colleton Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro chapel, with the Rev. Ralph Warren officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Harbiston was born Feb. 20, 1927, in Merville, France, and was a daughter of the late Louis Piquet and Emilienne Montagne Piquet. She was a former seamstress with Manhattan Dress Factory in Charleston and was a charter member of Edgewood Baptist Church, where she was a former nursery assistant.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years; son, Robert W. "Bobby" Harbiston of Summerville; daughter Jacquie Harbiston of Summerton; three grandchildren, Amber Hope Harbiston, Faith Danielle Harbiston and Katie Brooke Harbiston, all of Walterboro.

She was predeceased by a son, Louis Harbiston.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Colleton County Relay for Life, 5900 Core Road, Charleston.
