NICHOLAS J. TOMLINSON

LYNCHBURG -- Nicholas Judson "Nick" Tomlinson, 73, died March 11, 2004, in a Florence hospital.

He was born in Florence County, a son of the late Marion Emmette and Nida Ham Tomlinson. He was a graduate of Clemson University and had served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from A-Q Industries as an industrial mechanic and later retired from Hilliard of South Carolina. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lynchburg and had served on the board of deacons. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Jeneane White Tomlinson; two sons, Nick (Jean) Tomlinson Jr. of Timmonsville and John (Carolyn) Tomlinson of Greenville; a brother, Emmette Tomlinson of Surfside Beach; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Byrd cemetery, Timmonsville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, 4210 W. Palmetto St., Florence.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lynchburg, P.O. Box 188, Lynchburg, SC 29080.

FLORENCE S. BENNETT

REMBERT -- Florence "Barto" Spencer Bennett, 53, widow of Henry Bennett, died March 8, 2004, at Kershaw County Medical Center, Camden.

Born May 9, 1950, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Paul Spencer and Louellen Young Spencer. She attended the public schools of Sumter School District 2. At an early age, she accepted Christ and became a member of the Rafting Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Henry (Ruthia) Bennett of Philadelphia; one daughter, Rolanda (Victor) Bennett of the home; four brothers, Hilliard (Patricia) Workman Jr., Frank (JoAnn) Workman, both of Philadelphia, Robert Spencer and Bobby Spencer, both of Rembert; three sisters, Lucille (Leroy) Bradshaw, Sheila (William) Jenkins and Doretha (Carl) Benjamin, all of Rembert; a special friend, Leroy Williams; and 10 grandchildren.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Rafting Creek Baptist Church, S.C. 261 North, Rembert, with the Rev. Dr. Charles H. Davis, pastor, assisted by the Rev. John F. Kennedy. Burial will be in Rafting Creek Baptist Churchyard cemetery, Rembert.

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.

Floral bearers will be nieces and friends.

The funeral procession will leave at 1:15 p.m. from the home of her sister, Sheila Jenkins, 7814 Edward St., Rembert.

BARBARA J. WAY

SUMMERTON -- Barbara Jane "Bob" Way, 70, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 12, 1933, in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Charlton Carmichael Way and the late Blanche Victoria Way. She was a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church near Summerton.

Surviving are a sister, Elva Way Albertson of Ridgeland, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete Way and Woodrow Way; and three sisters, Miriam Jeanette Watkins, Willene Bryant and Mary Alice Barwick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Murdoch officiating.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Clemmer, Russ Clemmer, J.M. Barwick, Phil Howell, Robert Brunson and Wade McLeod.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Memorials may be made to the Andrews Chapel U.M.C. cemetery Fund, c/o Sarah Coulliette, 15149 Panola Road, Pinewood, SC 29125.

GEORGE MOORER Sr.

BALTIMORE -- George Moorer Sr., 63, husband of Hedy Oliver Moorer, died March 4, 2004, at Joseph Richey Hospice, Baltimore.

Born April 8, 1940, in Manning, S.C., he was a son of the late Joe Moorer Sr. and Katie Oliver Moorer. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. After completing his education, he moved to Baltimore, where he became employed with Amhrein Bakery, Concrete Pipe and Products and later employed with Al Packer Ford.

Survivors besides his wife, Hedy O. Moorer of Baltimore, include one son, George Moorer Jr. of Baltimore; one daughter, Nicole Moorer of Baltimore; one brother, Thomas Moorer of Manning; six sisters, Lucille Lemon of Baltimore, Hulean Kinder and Viola Riley, both of Manning, Josephine Brady of Brooklyn, N.Y., Queen Singleton of Norwalk, Conn., and Janie Thomas of West Palm Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; and six sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Geneva Brunson.

The remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Alex Harvin Highway, U.S. 301 South, with the Rev. Dr. Ashley Vaughn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be friends of the family.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Hulean M. Kinder, 2155 Hector-Walker Road, Manning.

THOMAS H. MONTGOMERY

MANNING -- Thomas Henry Montgomery, of 1757 Dozier-Mallett Road, Sugar Hill community of Manning, widower of Rosie Ann Wells Montgomery, died March 7, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born July 22, 1936, in the Greeleyville section of Williamsburg County, he was a son of the Rev. Henry O. "Doc" Montgomery and Lena Rawlinson Montgomery and stepson of Addie Samuels Montgomery. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, he joined Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as president of the trustee board and member of the gospel choir and the male chorus. He was also the president of the Singing Convention at the Friendly Union.

Survivors besides his stepmother, Addie S. Montgomery of Manning, include one stepson; two sisters, Mary Witherspoon and Lottie Mallett of Manning; and two stepsisters, Dorothy Morant of Manning and Clemmie Adger of Mayesville.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at William Chapel Christian Church, S.C. 261, Manning, with Pastor Emanuel Evans officiating, presiding Rev. Gussie Ceasar delivering the eulogy, assisted by the Rev. Rosa Mae Fulton, the Rev. Jack Morant and evangelist Lucretia Pugh.

Burial will be in St. Matthews cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Mary M. Witherspoon, 1731 Dozier-Mallett Road, Sugar Hill community, Manning.

JACOB CARTER Sr.

LYNCHBURG -- Mr. Jacob Carter Sr., better known as "Koochie, " of 348 Main St., Lynchburg, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.

Mr. Carter was born Dec. 3, 1944, in Lee County, a son of the late Robert Carter and Maggie Dickey Carter. He attended the public schools of Lee County and was a member of Warren Chapel United Methodist Church in Lynchburg. Jacob was employed by the Lee County School District as a custodian until his health failed. Mr. Carter was married to the late Christine Kennedy Carter of Lynchburg.

One son, Harry Lee Carter, preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memories four sons, Gary Carter (Annie), Jacob Carter Jr. (Donna), both of Bishopville, Tyrone Carter and Christopher Carter (Wanda), both of Lynchburg; one brother, Robert Carter Jr. (Sarah) of Eden, N.C.; two sisters, Calistine Boone of Lynchburg and Lillian Green of Bishopville; three sisters-in-law, Bessie Benbow and Rebecca Prince, both of Lynchburg, and Emma Kennedy of Jacksonville, N.C.; two brothers-in-law, George Durant and Calvin Kennedy, both of Lynchburg; three aunts, Addie Bell Commander and Viola Green, both of Lynchburg, and Bertie Mae Scott of Newark, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from Warren Chapel United Methodist Church in Lynchburg with burial in Hawkins cemetery. The Rev. Rufus L. Snowden, pastor, will be officiating.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his sister, Calistine Boone, 85 Lesane Drive, Lynchburg.

ELISABETH R. CURRIE

Elisabeth R. Currie, 73, wife of William L. Currie Jr., died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Orangeburg, she was a daughter of the late T.O. Reynolds Sr. and the late Daisy Brown Reynolds. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors besides her husband include three sons, Kenneth L. Currie, DVM, and his wife, Carmen, of Bishopville, William Stephen Currie of Lexington, and Martin Clarke Currie of Tifton, Ga.; a brother, Craig A. Reynolds of Cedartown, Ga.; four grandchildren, Ramsey Currie, Jessica Currie, Lacy Currie and Nicholas Currie; and an adopted sister, Louise Butler of Sumter.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Louise R. Qualliotine; and two brothers, T.O. Reynolds Jr. and Hubert Edens Reynolds.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Burns officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ramsey Currie, Allan Kolb, Cap Smith, Joe Reynolds, Bobby Hanna and Bill Shuler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Butler, Dr. Lea B. Givens, David Reynolds, Robert Reynolds and Danny Qualliotine.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

ETTA C. FLOYD

OLANTA -- Mrs. Etta Coker Floyd, age 88, died Friday, March 12, 2004, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Coker and Missy Driggers Coker. She was a member of the Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church, The Women's Ministry and past president of the ladies auxiliary of the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Albert Floyd; one sister, Lizzie Barrineau; and three brothers, Gary Coker, Dell Coker and Pearlie Coker.

She is survived by four daughters, Della (Kenneth) Hancock of Stedman, N.C., Vera Ivene (Keith) Weaver of Sumter, Jo Ann (Sonny) Floyd of Kingstree and Barnell (the Rev. David) Richardson of Andrews; three sons, Ben Floyd of Sumter, Dr. Chester (Ann) Floyd of Moncks Corner and Dr. Billy Keith (Marilyn) Floyd of Cayce; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

JERRY WALKER Jr.

Mr. Jerry Walker Jr., the son of the late Mr. Jerry Walker Sr. and Mrs. Linie Samuel Walker, was born May 25, 1911, in Wedgefield. He departed this life Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

He attended the public school in Wedgefield. At a very early age, he joined the Orangehill RMUE, where he served as church secretary for 10 years. He was an active member of Silver Lodge No. 35, Pinewood. A dedicated, hardworking husband and father, he worked as farmer, construction worker, barber and small grain mill operator on his farm. In recent years, he worked with his sons, Lewis and Jesse, on the chicken farm until his health failed.

He was preceded in death by two sons, James Odell Walker and Leroy Dinkins.

His memories will be fondly cherished by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Walker of the home; four sons, Lewis (Connie) Walker of Sumter, Willie (Fannie) Walker of Port Chester, N.Y., Jesse (Thelma) Walker of Wedgefield and Air Force retired Col. Earl (Valerie) Walker of San Antonio; three daughters, Mary Carter of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mary (Therin) McCants of Columbia and Jeanette English of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law; a stepbrother, Robert (Janie) Kelly, and stepsister-in-law, Sarah Kelly, all of Wedgefield; and a host of loving cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Orangehill RMUE Church, Wedgefield, with the Rev. Thomas Junious, pastor, officiating. Assisting will be the Rev. Matthew Kelley, the Rev. Lemuel Washington and the Rev. L.W. Walker Jr. Interment will be in the Orangehill RMUE Church cemetery.

Flower bearers will be Eastern Stars of Silver Leaf Chapter No. 333.

Pallbearers will be Masons of Silver Lodge No. 35.

The family will receive friends at the home, 6805 Brohum Camp Road, Wedgefield.

The staff of James Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
