William Meadors Minick
October 24, 2006

William Meadors Minick, of 104 Kwanzan Dr., Lexington, formerly of Kinards, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at his residence.
Mr. Minick was born on May 1, 1922 in Saluda County, a son of the late Olin W. and Inez Shaw Minick. He was an Army veteran of WW II having served with the 83rd Inf. Div. in the European Theatre, 5 major Campaigns and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for Action against the Enemy in the ETO. He retired from the S.C. National Guard with the rank of Major.
He was an Alumnus of Newberry College and a retired businessman and tax accountant.
He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Saluda and a former member and Elder of Little River Dominick Presbyterian Church.
He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 24, member of the 40& 8, member and Past Governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose, member and Executive Board member of the 83rd Inf. Div. Association, member and Secretary of the Newberry Co. Review and Appeals Board since it's inception in 1969, member of the National Guard Association of S.C. and the U.S., and a member of the Saluda Lions Club.
He was twice married, first to the late Mildred Wallenzine Minick and second to Grace Prater Minick of Lexington. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters Brenda Frazier and husband Rhett of Newberry, Elaine Cornwell and her husband Woody of Dalton, GA and Sandra Minick and Bob Brooks of Columbia; a son, T. Wayne Minick of Columbia; two sisters Mary M Nabors of Laurens and Rae M. Caveleri of Evans, GA; seven grandchildren, Woody Cornwell, Jr., Mark (Kelly) Cornwell, John Rhett (Gready) Frazier, Julianne (Joe) Reynolds, William Frazier, Stephenie (Scott) Gugel, and Sam (Gill) Minick; five great grandchildren, Rhett, Riley and Lockwood Frazier and Frazier and Copeland Reynolds; three step-children, Sherry (Wesley) Murphy of Seneca, Rusty (Deborah) Prater of Edgefield, and Kim (Jeremy) Hunt of Lexington; nine step grandchildren, Ashli Murphy, Christi (Jonathan) Williams, Chanda (Tim) Pye, Victoria, Nicholas, and Nicole Prater, Joseph and Prater Street, and Reid Hunt; and 4 step- great grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Steve, Joe Robert, Johnie and Billy Minick and three sisters, Irene Crapps, Nell Betchman and Lillie Minick.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00pm, Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Saluda, SC by the Rev. Tom Norrell and Rev. Nels Ledwell. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.

Dottie Krell Foshee Holtzclaw
October 14, 2006

Dottie Krell Foshee Holtzclaw, 97, formerly of Clinton, widow of the late Eugene H. Foshee and John G. Holtzclaw, died Saturday, October 14, 2006, in Brian Center of St. Andrews.
Mrs. Holtclaw was born on November 8,1908 in Prosperity, a daughter of the late George F. and Lillie Ann Shealy Krell. She was a retired cottage parent, having served for over 30 years with Whitten Center in Clinton and was a member of Bellview Baptist Church of Laurens, SC.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Foshee Hamilton of Columbia; a son, Paul H.(Rosemary) Foshee of Clinton; two step-daughters, Irene F. Brooks of Newberry, and Ruth Hughes of Laurens; a step-son, Pinckney Holtzclaw of Clinton; five grandchildren, Wayne (Karen) Hamilton, Becky (Howard) Parnell, Wanda Foshee, Michael (Win-Lee) Foshee and Sherri (Mark) Davis; eleven great-grandchildren and a number of step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her eleven siblings.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Bellview Baptist Church, Laurens by Rev. Barry James and Rev. Ossie Deese. Interment was in Soule Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family did receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Ralph L. Cannon
October 4, 2006

Ralph L. Cannon, 91, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006. He was the husband of the late Jeanette Schumpert Cannon and the oldest son of the late Rufus and Rosa Belle Rauch Cannon. He was born February 8, 1915 in Chapin and was a lifelong member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church, Chapin, where he served in various offices and committees in the church. He was a charter member of Lutheran Men in Mission, Primetimers and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a long time employee of Cannon Construction Company in Newberry and was proud to have been the construction superintendent of many homes, churches and businesses in and around Newberry, Greenwood, Laurens, and Lexington. On retiring, he spent his time running his small farm, growing a vegetable garden and making many articles in his wood-working shop. He had an excellent memory and enjoyed sharing stories of his life.
Mr. Cannon is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Margie and Earl Lindler, Evelyn and Wayne Stoudemire and Sadie K. and Tommy Benton; a son and daughter-in-law; Wayne and Jennifer Cannon all of Chapin; nine grandchildren and spouses, Kenneth (Libby) Lindler, Aubrey (Lisa) Lindler, Carol S. (Gibson) Solomons, Dale (Wendy) Stoudemire, Daran (Michelle) Stoudemire, Wanda K. (Mel) Harrill, Susan K. (Ken) Hawkins, Wendy C. (Mike) Bell, and Clay (Tracy) Cannon; sixteen great grandchildren, Kristina and Matthew Lindler, Cody and Jesse Lindler, Karen and Allen Solomons, Kelly, Nathan and Sarah Stoudemire, Dylan Stoudemire, Lauren and Kristen Harrill, Addison Hawkins, Jared and Reece Bell, and Mahala Cannon; a step great-grand daughter, Bridgette H. Hayden, a sister, Dorothy C. (L. J.) Long of Prosperity; a brother, Claude Cannon of Chapin. He was predeceased by a sister; Eula Mae C. King and two brothers; Ellis Cannon and Curtis Cannon and a son-in-law, Donald Koon.
Funeral services were held 11:00 A. M. Saturday at Saint Peter Lutheran Church, Chapin by the Rev. David Tholstrup with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 P. M. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church Roof Replacement Fund, 900 Dreher Island Road, Chapin, SC, 29036 .

Terry C. Brooks
November 29, 2006

Terry C. Brooks, 45, of 2030 Stoney Battery Road, Newberry, died Wednesday, November 29, 2006 in Laurens.
He was born on July 4, 1961 in Newberry, a son of the late Charlie L. and Dorothy Derrick Brooks. He was an employee of Norbord, S.C. where he was one of the start-up employees with the company when it began operations.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and attended Central Avenue Baptist Church in Whitmire. His favorite hobby was fishing, especially on the Saluda River.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Faye Perry Brooks of Newberry; his daughter and son-in-law, Felicia and Brad Bright of Newberry; two sisters, Judy B. Chestnut of Cheraw and Elaine B. Hamilton of Greenville; and his two grandchildren, Ethan Bright and Dylan Bright.
Funeral services were conducted 1:00 PM Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Wako Cotney. Interment was in the Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family was at his residence, 2030 Stoney Battery Road.
Active pallbearers were Kenny Brooks, Jerry Arrowood, Jason Silvers, Scottie Gregory, Kenneth Simon, Edwin Epting, and Joey Johnson.
The family suggests memorials be made to Central Avenue Baptist Church, PO Box 133, Whitmire, SC 29178 or to Trinity United Methodist Church,1167 Trinity Church Rd. Newberry SC 29108.

Betty Thomas Williams
November 22, 2006

Betty Thomas Williams, 75, formally of 961 Lindsay Circle, Newberry, widow of J. Edward Williams, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
She was born on March 4, 1931 in Whitehall, GA, a daughter of the late Judge Hubert and Jessie Ward Thomas. She was a retired textile employee and was a member of College Street Baptist Church.
Mrs. Williams is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Polly and Clyde Turner of Newberry and Angie Williams and her fiancé Doug Kirk of Cleveland, OH; a sister and brother-in law, Gloria and Earl Dominick of Newberry; one brother, who was reared in the home and a sister-in-law, Danny and Lynn Thomas of St. Lucie, FL; eleven grandchildren, Eddy Turner, Ben Turner, Charity Turner, Tommy Turner, Tal Rowe, Elysia Edwards, Naomi Kirk, Nichole Kirk, Babs Crumley, Bert Thomas, and Bett Thomas; and twelve great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Davie Edwards.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 3:00 PM Friday by Rev. Paul Rowe in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.

Emma Dickert Martin
November 17, 2006

Emma Dickert Martin, 87, of 117 Dickert Rd., Silverstreet, widow of Ray A. Martin, died Friday, November 17, 2006, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Martin was born on January 6, 1919, in Silverstreet, a daughter of the late John H. and Lelia Garrette Dickert. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, UMW, the church Administrative Council and choir.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nancy and Robert Jeffcoat of Gaston, Betty and Randy Graham of Aiken and Mary Farmer of Prosperity; one sister, Juanita Pitts of Clinton; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters Hermie Longshore, Jessie Shealy, and Clara Bedenbaugh and two brothers, Furman Dickert and Newton Dickert.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church by Rev. Hugh Bickley. Interment was in church cemetery.
Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1167 Trinity Church Road, Newberry SC 29108.
Active pallbearers were Johnny Graham, David Graham, Rusty Farmer, Joe Jeffcoat, Sally Farmer, Danielle Jeffcoat, and Janet Davenport. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Wesleyan Bible Class.

Gloria Boozer Bennett
November 13, 2006

Gloria Boozer Bennett, 59, of 419 S. Main St., Prosperity, SC, widow of Thomas W. Bennett, died Monday November 13, 2006 at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center.
She was born on Nov. 9, 1947 in Newberry, a daughter of Doris Cook Boozer and the late E. LeRoy Boozer. She was a retired employee of the S.C. Employment Security Commission. She was a member of Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church and the Mid Carolina Country Club. Her hobby was her gardening.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her mother of Prosperity; her son, Thomas Christian “Chris” Bennett of Columbia; her companion, Larry Thomas of Prosperity; a sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Wayne Morris of Prosperity; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley and Cheryl Boozer of Garden City and James “Jimmy” E. and Margaret Boozer of Prosperity;
Funeral services were held 11:00 A. M. Friday at Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church in Prosperity, SC by the Rev. Floyd Sides. Interment was in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 5:30 to 7:00 P. M Thursday at the funeral home. The family was at the residence of her sister, Debra Morris, 265 Darren Boozer Rd, Prosperity,SC.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o of Helen Beebe, 181 Tailors Trail, Leesville, SC 29070.
Active pallbearers were Tom Monts, Chad Morris, Andy Morris, Todd Bennett, Scott Nolff, Zack Winslow, and Vance Smith.

Frank M. Shealy, Jr.
November 13, 2006

Frank M. Shealy, Jr., 76, of 715 Columbia Ave., Chapin, died Monday, November 13, 2006 at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Shealy was born on Oct. 12, 1930 in Lexington Co., a son of Louise Comalander Shealy and the late Frank M. Shealy, Sr.
He was an Army veteran of the Koran War, was the co-owner of F.M. Shealy and Son Saw Mill and was a retired Location Party Chief with the S.C. Department of Transportation. He was awarded the S.C.D.O.T. Location Party Chief of the Year in 1986.
He was a Life Member of St. Jacobs Lutheran Church where he served as the Secretary and Vice Chairman of the congregational council for a number of years and also served as Chairman of the Property Committee. He was the first President of the Lutheran Men at St. Jacobs.
He is survived by his mother of White Rock; his wife, Betty Ann Sheely Shealy of Chapin; three sons, Lynn Murray Shealy, Danny Ray Shealy, and Wayne Errol Shealy all of Chapin; and three grandchildren, Elaine Shealy, Walt Shealy. and Sara Shealy all of Chapin.
Funeral services were conducted 4:00 P.M. Tuesday at St. Jacobs Lutheran Church by the Rev. George Rushe and Rev. Andrew Eargle. Interment was in the church cemetery.
The family was at his residence, 715 Columbia Ave. and did receive friends at the church following the services.
Active pallbearers were Jay Sheely, Ronnie Boland, Danny Lee Wessinger, Stanley Slice, George W. Ellisor, and Duane Swygert. Honorary pallbearers were Albert J. Dooley, Dr. C.W. Hendrix, Dr. Carroll Pinner, Dr. John Ferguson, Fred Shealy, J.C. Amick, Bryan Bowers, E.A. Timmerman, Charlie Mets, Eugene Merchant, Martin David Woolbright, Daniel A. Smith, Lanny Morris, and the members of St. Jacobs Lutheran Men.
Memorials may be made to St. Jacobs Lutheran Church, 844 Columbia Highway, Chapin, SC 29036.
