JACK C. SKINNER

Memorial services for Jack C. Skinner, age 81, who died May 10, 2004, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Chapel Norton Funeral Home in Bishopville. The Rev. Arline Kirkland will officiate. Burial will be in the Hebron Methodist Church cemetery. Visitation will be following the service.

Jack was born in Lee County a son of the late Henry Lee and Josey Buddin Skinner. He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Merrith Hatchell Skinner of Sumter; stepdaughter, Linda Ruffin of Columbia; stepsons, Ronald McElveen of Thomson, Ga., and Frank McElveen of Palm Harbor, Fla.; grandson, Ashley L. Simmons of Bishopville; half sisters, Betty Skinner and Jewell Tindall, both of Bishopville; and four step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughters, June Ellen Skinner Pope and Linda Skinner Stokes.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

WELDON PARSON

MANNING -- Weldon "Wellvin" Parson, 72, died at 123 W. Huggins St., Manning.

Born Jan. 1, 1932, in Manning, he was a son of the late Rufus Rutledge Parson and Agnes Hilton Parson.

The family will receive friends at the home of his niece, Janett Parson, 7 South St., Manning.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

RICK DINKINS

PIEDMONT -- Rick Dinkins, 45, of 100 Holly Chase Drive, beloved husband of Tamora Lynn Ritch Dinkins, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 22, 1958, in Long View, Texas, he was a graduate of LeTourneau Christian College. He was general sales manager of Piedmont Automotive in Anderson for the past three years and previously served as general sales manager for Breakaway Honda in Greenville for 10 years. He was a member of Greer First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of the home; loving father of two daughters, Deidre Renee' Dinkins Robinson and her husband, Michael Scott Robinson, of Greenville and Danielle Lynee' Dinkins of the home; loving grandfather of his granddaughter, Riley McKenzie Robinson; parents, William "Will" Dinkins Jr. and Joan Marshall Dinkins of Brevard, N.C.; grandmother, Annie Dinkins of Sumter; two brothers, Bill Dinkins and wife, Lisa, of Sumter and Ken Dinkins and wife, Kay, of Asheville, N.C.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ritch of Anderson; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. David Dinkins. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the northeast chapel, 3205 North S.C. 81.

The family is at the residence.

Flowers are optional, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.

Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, (864) 225-5431, of Anderson, is in charge of arrangements.

SYLVESTER E. SMYTHE

SUMMERTON -- Sylvester Ellison Smythe, age 86, husband of Lillie Mae Ragin Smythe, died Friday, May 21, 2004, at Mariner Health of Sumter East.

Born Feb. 11, 1918, in Summerton, he was a son of the late Ellison and Mary Gaymon Smythe.

The family will receive friends at the home, 1146 Washington St., Summerton.

Services will be announced by Dyson's Home for Funerals of Summerton.

RUDOLPH PHILLIP FLEMING

Rudolph Phillip "Rudy" Fleming, 61, husband of Judy Mooneyhan Fleming, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium.

LANEY BICKLEY

Laney Brooke Bickley, 22, died on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at her residence.

She was born in Sumter, a daughter of Virgil N. Bickley Jr. and Pamela L. Geddings Money and her husband, Glenn A. Money. She was a member of ROTC at Crestwood High School and graduated from Magna Vista High School in Martinsville, Va., in 2000. She attended Central Carolina College, majoring in computer science and was employed by Outback Steakhouse. She attended Shaw Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are grandmothers, Violet A. Cowan and Nadine Geddings, both of Sumter; two sisters, Sherri McGee of Jacksonville, Fla., and Julie Scarborough of Sumter; one stepsister, Jody Gainey of Sumter; and two stepbrothers, Chad Money of Sumter and Troy Money of Mauldin.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Virgil N. Bickley Sr. and S.M. "Sam" Geddings.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Geddings, Kirk Geddings, Paul Geddings, V.J. Holladay, Matthew Justin Quick and Wayne Turner.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Outback Steakhouse of Sumter.

The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the family residence.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

DIANE M. SCARBOROUGH

LYNCHBURG -- Diane Moses Scarborough died May 4, 2004.

Diane Moses Scarborough, daughter of the late Edna and Wesley Moses, entered this life on July 24, 1958, in Washington, D.C. She was one of eight children. She received her education in Lee County. She held several jobs working in motels and nursing homes.

Diane leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband, Johnny Scarborough; two children, Juanita Benbow of Lynchburg and Cornelius J. "C.J." Scarborough (Meoshia); two sisters, Edna (Sydney) of Lynchburg and Vivian Moses of Baltimore, Md.; five brothers, Wesley Moses Jr. of Baltimore, Md., David Moses of Augusta, Ga., Johnnie (Judy) Moses of Bishopville, Ronnie (Chylon) Moses of Martinez, Ga., Mack (Robin) Moses of Darlington; a favorite aunt, Earline (Roy) Lowery of Lynchburg; a father-in-law, Floyd Scarborough Sr.; four sisters-in-law, Laura (Dwayne) Preston of Upper Marlboro, Md., Lora D. (Lawrence) James of Columbia, Eva (Roosevelt) LeGrant of Elliott and Pandora (Pete) Moses of Bishopville; two brothers-in-law, Joe Nathaniel (Mary) Scarborough of Sumter and Charles (Mildred) Scarborough of Lynchburg; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Matthews AME Church, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Alvin E. Webb, officiating minister.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

The family will leave the home, 67 Sun Flower Circle, Lynchburg, at 2:30 p.m.

Burial will be at Scarborough cemetery, 341 Lynchburg.

Flower bearers will be the Missionary Society and pallbearers will be friends and family.

Commercial Funeral Home of Lynchburg is in charge of arrangements.

EDNA MAE S. HILTON

Edna Mae Simon Hilton, widow of A.K. Hilton, died May 6, 2004, at 2260 Queen Chapel Road.

Born Nov. 28, 1924, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Allen Simon Sr. and Susan Emma Simon.

The family will receive friends at 3594 S.C. 341, Lynchburg.

Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter.

SALLIE PRINGLE

Mrs. Sallie Pringle, of 207 King St., passed away on May 6, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was the mother of Mrs. Daisy Gaymon.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 207 King St.

Funeral plans are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Community Funeral Home of Sumter.

E.W. DIX

Mr. E.W. Dix, of 874 Manchester Road, entered eternal rest at his home on Saturday, May 1, 2004.

He was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Calhoun County, to the late Rev. Jeremiah Dix and Mrs. Minnie Haigler Dix. In his youth, Mr. Dix joined Brown Chapel AME Church and later attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he attended until his illness prevented his attendance. He was a hard-working man and a loyal friend to many. He retired from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad System after 33 years of dedicated service.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Ruby Bookhardt of the home; seven children, Minnie Dix of the home, Janie Linton and her husband, David, of Hartsville, Evelyn McKnight of Atlanta, Ga., George Dix of the home, Jerry Dix and his wife, Doritha, Moses Dix and his wife, Francina, all of Sumter, and Robert Dix and his wife, Lillie, of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Viola Shuler of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Frankie Dean Henderson of Orangeburg; 35 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Mr. Dix was preceded in death by two sons, Wilbur Lee Dix and E.W. Dix Jr.

Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Blassingame, pastor, assisting by Elder Harold Clarkson, the Rev. Nathaniel Bookhardt, Elder Paul Jenkin, Evangelist Frank D. Henderson, Minister Elizabeth Givens and the Rev. Robert E. Galloway.

Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 874 Manchester Road, Sumter.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

ARNETTE C. GREGG

LAKE CITY -- Ms. Arnette Carter Gregg, 42, widow of George Gregg II, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.

Born May 10, 1961, she was a daughter of the late Mitchell Nathaniel Carter and Cherry Ann Carter.

Survivors include one son, George Gregg III of Lake City; one daughter, Angela Gregg of the home; one brother, Nathan Carter of Timmonsville; two sisters, Jeanette Shaw of Florence and Diane Jordan of Timmonsville; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today from L.M. Green Memorial Chapel, 309 S. Church St., Lake City, with Elder Dr. Linwood Cooper officiating.

Burial will be in New Zion Baptist Church cemetery, Timmonsville.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 168 Brown St., Lake City, SC 29560.

Green's Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES A. JONES

ELLIJAY, Ga. -- James Alvin Jones, 68, of Ellijay, Ga., passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2004.

Born April 11, 1936, in Pickens County, he was a son of Freddy E. and Ida Irene Durham Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of the Cartecay Baptist Church in Ellijay, Ga. He retired as a technical sergeant with the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a lifetime member of the DAV.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Jones of Ellijay, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Ann Chapman of Easley, Kathy and Andrew Hodge of Manning, Bonnie and Troy Brown of Cordova and Debbie McLeod of Sumter; sons and daughters-in-law, Jasoc C. Jones of Ellijay, Ga., James L. and Robyn Jones of Easley, Richard G. Jr. and Julie Lowery of Barnwell and Charles A. Lowery of Orangeburg; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry D. Jones of Plantersville and William S. Jones of Manning; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Cartecay Baptist Church.

Military graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Westview cemetery in Liberty.
