Annie Dinkins Bolden, 86, widow of Isaac Willie Bolden, died May 7, 2004, at her residence, 435 Robney Drive, Sumter.

Born Sept. 29, 1917, in Rembert, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Sarah Harris Dinkins.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 435 Robney Drive, Sumter.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

THOMAS EUGENE 'GENE' WARD

SUMMERTON -- Thomas Eugene "Gene" Ward, 73, husband of Jeanne Walker Ward, died Friday, May 7, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born Jan. 12, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio, he was a son of the late John and Margaret Tavner Ward. He was a retired truck driver and U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving besides his wife of Summerton are a son, Steven Moore of Tipp City, Ohio; a daughter, Holly Baker and husband, Jim, of Enon, Ohio; three brothers, David Ward and Roger Ward of Dayton, Ohio, and George Ward of Kentucky; a granddaughter, Dannielle Baker; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Memorials may be made to Tuomey Hospice, 232 W. Calhoun Street, Sumter, SC 29150.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of the arrangements.

MARY VERTELLE LAMBRIGHT

Mrs. Mary Vertelle Lambright, daughter of the late Mr. Frank Carter and Mrs. Janie Easley Carter, was born Aug. 1, 1917, in Clarendon County. She departed this life on Tuesday, May 5, at her home, 406 Catie St.

She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County.

At an early age, she joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, where she attended faithfully until her health failed. She was a devoted missionary.

"Mary, " as she was affectionately called by her family and many friends, was a loving and warm person that everyone loved. Her grandchildren describe her as the sweetest woman they have ever known.

The light of this beloved person will shine through her devoted granddaughter, Mrs. Essie Mae (Melvin Lee) Friday of Sumter; two loving grandsons, Mr. Lee (Johnnie Lee) Cobia Jr. and Mr. Willie Lee (Niecy) Cobia, both of Winston-Salem; seven great-great grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister Mrs. Victoria Campbell of Jacksonville, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy King Cobia; a grandson, Mr. Jimmy Harvin; two sisters and two brothers.

Services for Mrs. Lambright will be held Monday, May 10, at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, with Minister Irene Anthony officiating, assisted by the Pastor Rick Simmons and Minister Carnes Duren. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

The funeral procession will leave the home of her granddaughter and her husband, Mrs. Essie Mae (Melvin Lee) Friday, 406 Catie St. at 1:30 p.m.

Sumter Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

FANNIE BARBER MOYER

Fannie Barber Moyer, 79, wife of Norman Moyer, died Saturday, May 8, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Johnston County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Daniel Henderson Barber and the late Mary Winnifred Gilbert Barber.

Mrs. Moyer was a budget analyst for the Department of the Army for more than 35 years. She lived in Virginia for many years, where she served as president of the United Methodist Women at Arlington United Methodist Church and treasurer of the Woman's Club. Mrs. Moyer supported many charities in word and deed. She enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels and working for the Red Cross. Her special interest was a love for planting and nurturing her flowers in her garden.

Surviving are her husband, two brothers, Dr. George Max Barber and his wife, Martha, of Largo, Fla., and John Allen Barber and his wife, Mary, of Darien, Ga.; one sister, Lois B. Moore and her husband, Julian, of Sumter; three nephews; two nieces and seven grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Ed McLeod officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, 2263 Gingko Drive.

Memorials may be sent to Arlington United Methodist Church, Glebe Road, and South 8th St., Arlington, VA 22204.

CHARLES SASOR COUNCIL Jr.

PHILADELPHIA -- Charles Sasor Council Jr. died May 7 in Philadelphia, Pa. He was born in Sumter County, the son of the late Charles Sasor and Sallie Moses Council Sr. Services are incomplete.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Erthlay Witherspoon, 1040 State Street, Sumter.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc.

HELEN RAULERSON BILLUPS

MANNING -- Helen Raulerson Billups, 88, widow of Andrew J. Billups, died Saturday, May 8, in Carolinas Hospital System in Florence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory in Manning.

Mary Disher died Saturday, May 8, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

KYOKO KANISHIMA BAILEY

Kyoko Kanishima Bailey, age 71, wife of Howard Eugene Bailey, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

CECIL LANGSTON III

EFFINGHAM -- Mr. Cecil "Chessly" Langston III, 43, died May 7, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel in Olanta with burial in Elim Baptist Church cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral service (4-5 p.m.) in the funeral home chapel and at other times at the home of his parents, 1303 Delano St., Manning, SC 29102.

Born in Florence County, he was a son of Cecil C. Langston Jr. and Letida Eunice Strickland Langston. Mr. Langston attended South Side High School in Florence, was a retired carpenter and loved hunting and fishing.

Surviving besides his parents are a stepdaughter, Teresa "Mickey" Tedder of Kansas City, Mo.; a stepson, Robbie Campbell of Kansas City; two sisters, Miranda Adams of Florence and Myra Jenkins of Bennettsville; and two step-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Free Will Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 229, Turbeville, SC, 29162.

ELLA G. CANTY

Ella Gallashaw Canty, 88, widow of Eugene Canty, died May 9, 2004, at Mariner Health of Sumter East.

Born June 15, 1915, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Matthew Gallashaw and Rosa Brown Gallashaw.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Ella A. Bradford, 1720 Gafton Circle, Sumter.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

EVELYN T. FLOWERS

PAMPLICO -- Evelyn Turner Flowers, 86, of 1023 W. Turner Gate Road, died Sunday morning, May 9, 2004, in a Florence hospital, after an illness.

Mrs. Flowers was born in Pamplico a daughter of the late Joseph Henry and Sophanie Dean Turner. She was a member of Mt. Elon Free Will Baptist Church, the adult Sunday school class and the ladies auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Flowers, who died in 1976.

Surviving are two sons, Joel Clayton (Lillie) Flowers of Pamplico and Roger L. (Trudie) Flowers Sr. of Summerton; brother, A.Z. Turner of Florence; five grandchildren, Sandra (Buddy) Bazen of Pamplico, Steve Flowers of Myrtle Beach, Adelaide (Curtis) Spencer and Ebbie (Don) Goodson, both of Sumter, and Roger L. (Ayllson) Flowers Jr. of Summerton; eight great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Neta Hutchinson of Pamplico.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Mt. Elon Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Elon Free Will Baptist Church, 263 W. Seven Mile Road, Pamplico.

EULENA MABRY

COLUMBIA -- Service for Eulena Myers Mabry, 85, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Ascension, Hagood, with burial in Church of the Holy Cross cemetery, Stateburg.

Memorials may be made to The Society of Ascension, c/o Laura Hoge, 655 Stateburg Hills Drive, Sumter, SC 29154; Church of the Holy Cross Preservation Trust, 335 N. Kings Highway, Sumter, SC 29154; the George L. Mabry Scholarship Fund, Presbyterian College, Clinton, SC 29325; or Our Place, Benzie T. Rice Home, 100 Finley Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the residence.

Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

Mrs. Mabry died Monday, May 10, 2004, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin F. Sr. and Lena Evans Myers. She was a member of the Church of the Ascension.

Mrs. Mabry was the beloved wife of the late Maj. Gen. George L. Mabry Jr., U.S. Army, who was a World War II Medal of Honor recipient. She was a devoted wife and mother who provided loving support to her family during her husband's 35-year active-duty Army career.

Surviving are daughter, Abigail "Gail" M. Ferrick of Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law, George L. III and Sharon Mabry of Columbus, Ga., and Benjamin M. and Shirley Mabry of Cayce; sisters, Mary Ella M. Mitchell of Sumter and Sarah M. Dickinson of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

She was predeceased by brothers, Benjamin F. Myers Jr. and Thomas Laurel Myers.

Mrs. Mabry's children would like to thank the staff of the Rice Home for the loving care that they provided for their mother.

MARVIN T. GEDDINGS Jr.

Marvin Thomas "Tommy" Geddings Jr., 69, husband of Jennie Ruth Chatham Geddings, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at his home.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Marvin Thomas Geddings Sr. and the late Mana Geddings. Mr. Geddings was a member of Grace Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church. He was a member of Claremont Masonic Lodge No. 64 and the Sumter Elks Lodge. He graduated from Spartanburg High School and attended Clemson University. He was a self-employed general contractor.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; a son, Marvin Thomas Geddings III and his wife, Lynn; two daughters, Marguerite Helms and her husband, Jimmy, and Debra Troop and her husband, Clint; a brother, Jimmy Geddings of Spartanburg; a sister, Rachel McCollough of Lincolnton, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Geddings.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Pec Chatham and the Rev. Derrick Fort officiating.

Pallbearers will be Ben Bellamy, Sid Singleton, Chris Lee and grandsons, Jamie Hartfield, Joey Hartfield and Kasey Beymer.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the home, 701 Mathis St.

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross Tri-County Service Center, 1155 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 or to a charity of one's choice.
