Douglas Peterson Jr., 65, husband of Mary Sue Carter Peterson, died May 10, 2004, at his residence, 415 Arlington Road, Sumter.

Born Aug. 5, 1938, in Sumter County, he was a son of Corine Blanding Peterson and the late Douglas Peterson Sr.

The family will receive friends at his home, 415 Arlington Road, Sumter.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

MARY JORDAN

MULLINS -- Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Lib" Cagle Jordan, 75, widow of Raymond Jordan Jr., died Monday, May 10, 2004, at Conway Medical Center, after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Devotion Gardens cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jordan was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Marlboro County, a daughter of the late James and Pearlie Cagle. Mrs. Cagle was a homemaker. She was a graduate of McColl High School and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Jordan are her children, Dotty Church and her husband, Ricky, of Manning and Ray Jordan and his wife, Debbie, of Lake View; three grandchildren, Ricky Bryan Church Jr., Callie Jones and Carrie Floyd; five great-grandchildren, Madison Church, Jordan Smith, Sawyer Jones, Emily Jones and Hunter Floyd; two sisters, Faye Nearland of Reno, Nev., and Ila Mae Willingham of Vancouver, Wash.; and two brothers, James Cagle and Daniel Bittle, both of McColl.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

JACK C. SKINNER

Jack Clifford Skinner, age 81, died May 10, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Funeral plans will be announced by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville Chapel.

EDMUND S. GADSON

Edmund Sammie Gadson, 57, husband of Georgia Toney Gadson, died May 7, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born May 31, 1946, in Sumter, he was a son of Ezel and Louise Burgess Gadson. He was first married to Elizabeth Climes Gadson. He graduated from Ebenezer High School in 1964. In 1965, he joined the United States armed forces and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his service in the Vietnam War. As a teenager, he worked with several funeral homes in the area. He was a trained automotive mechanic and worked in that field most of his life in Sumter, Columbia and Florida. He also operated several businesses, to include a garage and a variety store. At an early age, he joined Wayman Chapel AME Church and later became a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Ft. Pierce, Fla. While residing in Florida, he was proud to have organized a neighborhood Boys Club to help boys that grew up in single parent homes.

Survivors besides his wife and parents include three children, Steve (Santanna) Gadson and Karen Bush, both of Sumter, and Reginald Gadson of Silver Springs, Md.; four sisters, Bertha G. (Edward) Alston and Gloria Armstrong, both of Sumter, Katie G. (James) Roach and Marilyn G. James, both of Columbia; two brothers, William Carl (Shirley) Gadson of Union and Glenn (Maxine) Gadson of Newport News, Va.; eight grandchildren; one aunt, Mamie G. Robinson of Newark, N.J.; two uncles, Silas W. Burgess of Bronx, N.Y., and John Gadson of New York City; two sisters-in-law, Mable (Hampton) Rembert and Janie Mae (Charles) McKnight; two brothers-in-law, Walter (Jean) Toney and Matthew Toney; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Lee Gadson.

A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, 29150.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Wayman Chapel AME Church, S.C. 261 North, Sumter, with the Rev. Laddie N. Howard, pastor. Burial will be in Wayman Chapel AME Church cemetery.

The body will lie in state at 3 p.m. Thursday.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his parents, Ezel and Louise Burgess Gadson, 640 Bronco Road, Wedgefield, SC 29168.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

EDNA MAE S. HILTON

Edna Mae Simon Hilton died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the residence of her sister, Inez Heyward, in Sumter.

Born Nov. 28, 1924, in Clarendon County, she was the third child of the late Allen Simon Sr. and Susan Emma Lesane Simon. Mrs. Hilton attended the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from Rosenwall High School. She was raised in Pine Grove AME Church. In the early 1940s, she was united in marriage to the late Henry Johnson Sr. They resided in Sumter and attended Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. In 1954, she moved to Lynchburg and married the late A.K. Hilton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Karo, Emmanuel, Melvin and Leon Simon.

She leaves to cherish precious memories her only child, Henry Johnson Jr. of Lynchburg; four sisters, Ida McBride and Inez (G.W.) Heyward of Sumter, Rosa Lee Johnson of Pinewood and Mary Ellen Simmons of Mayesville; three brothers, Allen Simon Jr. and Nathan (Diane A.) Simon of Sumter and Willie (Josephine) Simon of Elliott.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthews AME Church, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Alvin E. Webb, pastor.

The remains will be placed in the church from 3 p.m. until the hour of service.

Burial will be in the Greenbay cemetery, Lynchburg.

The funeral procession will leave at 3 p.m. from the residence of 3594 S.C. 341, Lynchburg.

The family will receive friends at 3594 S.C. 341, Lynchburg.

Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

ANNIE D. BOLDEN

Annie Dinkins Bolden, 86, widow of Isaac Willie Bolden, died May 7, 2004, at her residence, 435 Robney Drive, Sumter.

Born Sept. 29, 1917, in Rembert, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Sarah Harris Dinkins. She attended the public schools of Sumter County. She committed her life to serving the Lord at The Way of the Cross Church, Washington, D.C. After returning to South Carolina, she became a member of St. Rest Holiness Church, Mayesville. She was later affiliated with Fellowship Outreach Ministries and True Gospel.

Survivors include her children, Isaac (Essie) Bolden Jr., Pastor Joseph (Glendell) Bolden, Sarah (Terry) Smith, Mary Ann Kennedy, Vermell (Wilbur) Lewis, Ruth Ann (Lawrence) Dinkins and Edward Bolden III, all of Sumter; four grandchildren she reared in the home, Adrain (Kenneth) McFadden, Isaac (Margie) Bolden III, Turkesa Lackey and Kewaumie (Tawanda) Lackey, all of Sumter; two sisters, Lillie Mae William of Philadelphia, and Eleanor Baldwin of Charlotte, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; a special adopted granddaughter, Devine Simon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, five brothers, two sisters and a special goddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fellowship Outreach Ministries, 313 Mooneyham Road, with Apostle Virnetta J. Bennett, pastor, assisted by Elders Tim McQueen, Ernest Lee Thomas, John Plowden, Pastors Holliday and Frances Washington.

Burial will be in High Hill AME Church cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 435 Robney Drive, Sumter.

KAMELLE L. HAYES

Kamelle Lamb Hayes, age 82, wife of the late Douglas Hayes, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at her residence.

Mrs. Hayes was born in Elim the daughter of the late William "Billy" and Sarah McClam Lamb. She was a member of Shaw Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors are one son, Wayne Hayes of Sumter; one daughter, Linda H. Lands and her husband, Gerald, of Sumter; two grandchildren, Rock Hayes and his wife, Devonna, and Wendy Benton and her husband, Jeff; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Joseph Lamb, Otha Lamb, Lawrence Lamb and Howard Lamb; and two sisters, Vernie Lamb Brown and Euna Lee Gray.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Victor Cheek officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the residence on Furman Drive.

Memorials may be sent to Shaw Heights Baptist Church, 2030 Peach Orchard Road, Sumter, SC 29154 or Tuomey Hospice, 232 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.

MARY T. FULFORD

Mary Turner "Pat" Fulford, age 72, beloved wife of 25 years to Billy David Fulford, died on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at her residence.

She was born in Marlboro County. She was the daughter of the late William "Bill" Wilkerson and Geneva Stanton Wilkerson. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, William "Billy" Turner of Sumter and Robert F. "Bobby" Turner of Plano, Texas; one daughter, Mary Adele T. Stanfield and her husband, Ken, of Sumter; one brother, William M. "Mickey" Wilkerson and his wife, Darlene, of Dillon; two sisters, Billie A. McDaniel of Dillon and Betty M. Gerald of Florence; one grandson, K.B. Stanfield Jr. and his wife, April; and one great-grandson, Kenneth "Trey" Stanfield III.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Freddie Gaymon and the Rev. Tom Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Lee Roy Turner Jr.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

RAYFORD McGUIRT

BISHOPVILLE -- John Rayford McGuirt Sr., 75, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at his home after an extended illness.

Born in Lancaster County, he was a son of the late John Rodman McGuirt and the late Lillian Morrow McGuirt. He was a lifelong truck driver and had retired from Classic Carriers.

Survivors include a daughter, Tina M. Kelley and her husband, Cliff, of Bishopville; a son, J.R. "Scooter" McGuirt Jr. and his wife, Mary Alice "Clyde, " of Bishopville; two stepsons, Richard Hodge of Mayesville and Wayne Rucker of Sumter; three sisters, Faye M. Brown, Jo A. McGuirt and Brenda M. Floyd, all of Bishopville; three granddaughters, Taylor Kelley, Pamela Kelley and Jenna McGuirt, all of Bishopville; a grandson, John R. McGuirt III of Sylva, N.C.; and a great-granddaughter, Reiko Hargis-McGuirt of Sylva, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; a son, James Heyward McGuirt; and a sister, Patricia M. Kirby.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Memorial Chapel, 2509 Green Lane in Ashwood with Pastor Ron Glass officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at his parents' home, 391 Springhill Road, and at various other times.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

EARL B. SMITH Jr.

COLUMBIA -- Earl "BJ" Barry Smith Jr. died May 12, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Hospital.

Born Sept. 11, 1983, in Sumter County, he was a son of Earl Barry Smith Sr. and Barbara Polk Smith.

The family will receive friends at 2630 Yank Haven Drive, Sumter.

Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter.
