LEATRICE COLLINS

NEW ZION -- Leatrice Porter Williams Collins, 66, wife of Daniel Collins Sr., died May 15, 2004, at 10788 Black River Road, New Zion.

Born Oct. 24, 1937, in Beeville, Texas, she was a daughter of the late Henry Porter and Beatrice Harvey Porter. She received her formal education in the public schools of Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a professional seamstress in Philadelphia. After moving to New Zion, she owned and operated Daniel Boy Convenience Store and developed 527 subdivision. She was a member of Siloan Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a deaconess and member of the senior choir.

Survivors besides her husband of the home include two sons, Michael (Angeline) Williams and Daniel (Latasha) Collins Jr., both of New Zion; one daughter, Leatrice (Jonathan) Lambert of Sicklerville, N.J.; one brother, Howard Porter of San Antonio; three sisters, Marie Henderson of Dallas, Lillian Culpepper of San Antonio and Johnnie (Clarence) Lartitque of Beaumont, Texas; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and a daughter.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Siloan Missionary Baptist Church, 200 Madison Ave., Kingstree, with the Rev. Terry Law officiating, assisted by the Rev. Carnell Hampton, Deacon Norris Wallace, the Rev. Francis Burroughs and Minister Lagatha McFadden.

Burial will be in Williams-Collins Memorial Gardens, Black River Road, New Zion.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be friends of the family.

The family will receive friends at the home, 10788 Black River Road.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

RUTH BUDDIN

Ruth Childers Curry Buddin, 86, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Covenant Place.

Born in Albertville, Ala., she was a daughter of the late A.C. Childers and the late Estelle Dowdy Childers. Mrs. Buddin was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She resided in Sumter for 45 years, working for Sumter School District 17 and Newman Realty Co.

She was twice married , first to the late Robert L. Curry and later to the late W.L. "Bill" Buddin.

Surviving are three daughters, Dianne C. Boulware and her husband, Charley, Etna C. Griffin and her husband, Hap, all of Sumter, and Lynne Richardson and her husband, Bob, of Litchfield; a son, Robert L. Curry and his wife, Tina, of Charlotte, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Billy R. Curry; and a brother, Raymond Dowdy.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Dr. Louis Jamison officiating.

Burial will be in Crestwood cemetery in East Gadsden, Ala., at a later date.

The family will receive friends at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home following the service.

RUTH A. BAZEN-WALKER

ANDREWS -- Ruth Ackerman Bazen-Walker, 72, widow of Charlie Bazen and Pete Walker, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at her residence.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens, directed by Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bazen-Walker was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Andrews, the daughter of Eddie B. Ackerman and Hallen C. Ackerman. She was a lifetime resident of the Earles community near Andrews, a member of the Pentecostal Holiness faith, and a member of the New Hope Fellowship Church. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother. "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."

She was predeceased by four brothers, Rufus Ackerman, Horace Ackerman, Ottis Ackerman and Jessie Ackerman; and a sister, Betti Mae Elliott.

Surviving are a son, Charles L. Bazen of Andrews; four daughters, Ruth Ann Howell and her husband, Larry, of Georgetown, Juanita B. Hardee and her husband, Calvin, of Conway, Vickie Casselman and her husband, Harris, of Andrews and Belinda Jordan and her husband, Dean, of Santee; a sister, Edith A. Wilson of Florence; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

BERTHA I. CARNES

Bertha Idella Carnes, age 85, died on Monday, May 17, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Plans will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

STEPHEN KENNEDY

LYNCHBURG -- Mr. Stephen Kennedy of Lynchburg died on Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Wilson Clinic in Darlington after an illness.

Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Wilson Kennedy Sr. and Ethelene Kennedy.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Larry and Rosetta McPherson, 1311 Davis St., Lamar.

Services are incomplete and will be announced later by Jefferson Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

DONALD E. McMASTER

Donald Eugene "Don" McMaster, 76, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. He joins in heaven his wife, Marlene Pratt McMaster, who predeceased him on Jan. 4, 1999.

Born in Owosso, Mich., on Jan. 20, 1928, he was a son of the late Douglas McMaster and the late Mable Couwls McMaster. He lived in the Charlotte. N.C./Lake Wylie area and in Melbourne and Titusville, Fla.

Don will be remembered by friends and family including children, Doug (Kathy) McMaster and Shannon (Jim) Madden; stepchildren, Dr. Robert (Ginger) Ealy, Roger (Debbie) Ealy, and Pamela (Phil) Murphy; brothers, Arthur (Mary) McMaster and Glenn McMaster; stepbrother and sister, Dick Henry and Gertrude Harvey; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday at Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home in Melbourne, Fla.

The family requests that memorials be made to Tuomey Hospice, 325 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of local arrangements.

MARY FAYE LEWIS

PAXVILLE -- Mary Faye "Merifaye" Lewis, 54, wife of John Henry Lewis Jr., died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at her home in Paxville.

Born Nov. 28, 1949, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Nellie Tobias Holladay. She was a homemaker and substitute teacher at Clarendon Hall and was a member of Paxville United Methodist Church, where she was the first lady trustee, a Sunday school teacher, assistant treasurer and a member of the Parsonage Committee.

Surviving besides her husband of Paxville are a daughter, Jennifer Lewis Jones and husband, Jay, of Sumter; a son, John Henry "Jay" Lewis III of Paxville; two special grandsons, John Henry Lewis IV, and Tyler Lewis Jones; five sisters, Carolyn Spigner and husband, Ralph, of Columbia, Marian Jordan and husband, Charlie, of Durham, N.C., Judy Rogers and husband, Bill, Joyce Hardy and husband, George, and Lynn Holladay, all of Manning; a brother, Wayne Holladay and wife, Edith, of Manning.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in Paxville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Broomall officiating. Burial will follow in Paxville cemetery.

Pallbearers are Burt Hardy, Herb Holladay, Michael Rogers, Leslie McIntosh, Ernie Broadway and Ral Spigner.

Honorary pallbearer is Glen D. "Judge" Reynolds.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

BERTHA CARNES

Bertha Idella Aldendorf Carnes, age 85, wife of the late Fred Carnes, died on Monday, May 17, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Elkhart, Ind., a daughter of the late Franklin Herman Aldendorf and Mabel Kirkoff Aldendorf. She was the former owner/operator of Charlies Old Fashion Ice Cream Parlor on Broad Street where Sonic is now located.

Surviving are three sons, Fred A. Carnes and his wife, Candy, of Rembert, Michael R. Carnes and his wife, Mary Lou, of Dalzell and Timothy J. Carnes and his wife, Ronda Sue, of Linton, Ind.; one daughter, Linda Carnes Carson and her husband, David, of Warner Robins, Ga.; two sisters, Phyllis Baylor of Elkhart and Nancy Larson of Elkhart; six grandchildren, Rebecca Carnes, Christy Carnes, Michael R. Carnes Jr., James S. Carnes, Aaron Carson and Todd Carson; and two great-grandchildren, Noah Carnes and Seth Carnes.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Charles Aldendorf; and three sisters, Marilyn Kirk, Ann Vill and Ruth Weldon.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Billy Lewis officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today at Bullock Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

JACOB L. NUNAMAKER III

MANNING -- Jacob L. Nunamaker III, 68, husband of Margaret Weeks Nunamaker, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 7, 1936, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Jacob L. Nunamaker Jr. and the late Sara Chewning Nunamaker. He was retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation after 36 years of service, and was a member of Manning United Methodist Church. He attended Clemson University and was named resident maintenance engineer of the year for the State of S.C. in 1983.

Surviving besides his wife of Manning are a son, Dr. Jacob L. Nunamaker IV and wife, Bari, of Beaufort; a sister, Hilda Davis of Cherokee, Ala.; three grandchildren, Virginia Nunamaker, Jacob Nunamaker V and Olivia Nunamaker.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. The Revs. Debra Quilling and Morris Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Manning cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of the arrangements.

EILEEN GAUVREAU

Eileen Gauvreau, age 73, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Bullock Funeral Home.

Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.
