BISHOPVILLE -- Martha Alice Enoch died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The family will receive friends at 1301 Brown Road, Camden.

Funeral services are incomplete.

Boatwright Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

LUCY MAE R. ALSBROOK

MANNING -- Lucy Mae Ridgeway Alsbrook, 92, widow of George Hardy Alsbrook, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at her home in Manning.

Born June 22, 1911, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late George and Hester Corbett Ridgeway. She was formerly employed by Manning Manufacturing and was a member of Jordan United Methodist Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Lila Ellis and husband, Bill, Margaret Ardis, Pansy Beatson and husband, Billy, all of Manning, Jeanette Lowder and husband, Lee, of Pinewood, Angela Hodge and husband, Harold, of Sumter; two sons, Marvin Alsbrook and wife, Mary, and Raymond Alsbrook and wife, Barbara, of Manning; a brother, Percy Ridgeway and wife, Ann, of St. Matthews; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. The Revs. Miriam Hadden, Charlie Salter and Pec Chatham will officiate. Burial will follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ibra Mathis, Jimmy Mathis, Glen Ardis, Lee Lowder Jr., Johnny Alsbrook, Kevin Alsbrook, Ray Alsbrook and Brent Beatson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and other times at the residence, 201 Dillon St., Manning.

Memorials may be made to Tuomey Hospice, 232 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150, Jordan United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Colleen Bochette, Treasurer, 2048 Bethleham Road, Manning, SC 29102.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

EMMA F. TOMLIN

ALCOLU -- Emma Franklin Tomlin, 88, widow of Charlie Tomlin Sr., died May 18, 2004, at 1481 Goward Road, Alcolu.

Born in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Guy Benjamin Franklin and Lizzie Myers Franklin. She received her education in the Westminister School in Alcolu. She gave her life to Christ and joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. She was a member of the usher board, senior choir, missionary society and mother of the church. She was also a member of the YMCA Lodge, Joint Stock Lodge, Farmers Aide and Job Lodge. She also ran the Franklin & Tomlin Grocery Store for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Charlie (Althenia) Tomlin Jr. of Alcolu and Thomas (Sarah) Tomlin of New Haven, Conn.; three daughters, Katie (William) Walters of Alcolu, Lizzie Kelly of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Wilhelmenia Tomlin of Norwalk, Conn.; two sisters, Lillie Francis and Queen Monroe, both of Alcolu; two brothers, Robert (Bessie) Blackwell and Alonza (Bertha) Blackwell, both of Sumter; 22 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by eight sisters, two brothers, and two children, Ulysses Franklin and Otis Tomlin.

A wake service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Plowden Mill Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. Dennis C. Brock, pastor, officiating, assisted by Pastor Jonathan Anderson, Steven Hodge and Minister Terry Franklin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Floral Bearers will be granddaughters.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, William and Katie Tomlin Walters, 1481 Goward Road, Alcolu.

Samuels Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

ELLAREE F. LOWERY

NEW ZION -- Ellaree Foster Lowery, 61, widow of John Wesley Lowery Sr., died May 15, 2004, at Carolinas Hospital System.

Born March 18, 1943, in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of Evelyn Muldrow Foster and the late Sam Foster. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Mt. Sinai AME Church, where she served on the stewardess board.

Survivors besides her mother include four daughters, Sharon (James) Moore of Newark, Conn., Judy Lowery of the home, Joyce Lowery of Lynchburg, and Valencia Lowery of Sumter; two sons, Warren Foster and John (Sarah) Lowery, both of Pamplico; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six sisters, Gracie (James) McKenzie of Kingstree, Christine (Cleveland) Grady and Evelyn Foster, both of Philadelphia, Berdie (Fred) Carter and Estell Foster, both of Washington, D.C., and Sheryl Shaw of Andrews; two brothers, Sam (Anita) Foster Jr. of Philadelphia, and Charles Foster of Hebron; two aunts, Rosa Lee Perteet of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Effie McCray of New York; one uncle, Warren (Lillie Mae) Muldrow of Hebron; three sisters-in-law, Sadie (John) Simpson and Alice (John) McClam, both of Newark, N.J., and Annie Mae (Mose) Prince of Lynchburg; four brothers-in-law, Joseph Lowery and Thomas Lowery, both of Lynchburg, Oscar (Phyllis) Lowery of Arizona and Charlie Lowery of Paterson, N.J.; special friends, William Albert Kennedy of Kingstree, Lula Bell Epps of Lynchburg and Thersa Major of New Zion; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Terry Lowery; and three grandchildren, Antonio, Shinequilla and Destiny Lowery.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Mt. Sinai AME Church, Mayesville, with the Rev. Alfred Bradley, pastor, assisted by Pastor Katie Wood. Burial will be in Goodman cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1425 Lynchburg Road, New Zion, SC 29111.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

ELOUISE STUCKEY

Elouise Stuckey, 48, companion of Ivy Lee Pearson of the home, died May 19, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born April 21, 1956, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Mae Bell Moses Stuckey and James C. Stuckey Sr. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. She was currently employed by Lee County Disabilities and Special Needs Board as supervisor of ICF/MR McCleod II residential home. She was a valued employee for 17 years. She was a faithful member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Lynchburg.

Survivors include three sons, Darryl (Shalonda) Stuckey of Bishopville, Lashad and Rashad Stuckey of the home; two stepsons, Laverne Pearson and Gregg Pearson, both of Turbeville; one foster daughter, Chantel Bailey of the home; three stepdaughters, Ivory Jane McFadden, Monique Pearson and Marie Pearson, all of Turbeville; three brothers, Larry (Catherine) Stuckey and James Stuckey Jr. of Rembert and Nuegene (Tonya) Stuckey of North Carolina; five sisters, Charlesena (James) King of Elliott, Jennifer Donald and Brenda (Mark) Percy of Columbia, Mae Alice (Sam) McGruder of Rembert, Lisa Stuckey of Bishopville; one adopted sister, Nancy Cornish of Columbia; and 12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Mae Bell Moses Stuckey and James C. Stuckey; and her daughter, Tara Quines Stuckey Ford.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday from Mt. Pleasant Middle School, Elliott, with the Rev. Robert L. Rabb, officiating eulogist, assisted by Minister Eric Stuckey, the Rev. Mary Ruth Harvin and the Rev. J. Elbert Williams.

Burial will be in New Jerusalem Church cemetery, Lynchburg.

Pallbearers will be Nighteye Security, family and friends.

Floral bearers will be co-workers of Lee County Disabilities and Special Needs Board.

Ushers will be members of Pentecostal Temple Holiness Church.

The funeral procession will leave at 2:15 p.m. from the home, 606 Vista Lane, Lynchburg.

ALICE C. WISE

Alice Capers Wise was born on June 18, 1939, in Sumter to the late Ellison Capers Sr. and Lydia Davis Capers.

She graduated from Lincoln High School. Furthering her education, she attended Hunter College in New York City, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in home economics in 1979.

Besides a successful career in the accounting department from which she recently retired, she enjoyed being an accomplished seamstress, homemaker, volunteer and matriarch.

Alice treasured her 40-year relationship and service to New Mount Zion Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she was an officer. Her contributions to her church family and anyone she came in contact with will be immeasurably missed.

She departed this life May 13, 2004, and leaves to mourn, her husband, Billy K. Wise Sr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sons, Billy Wise Jr. (Janice) of Greensboro, N.C., and Andrew Wise of Rosedale, N.Y.; daughter, Delilah Capers of Greensboro, N.C.; stepdaughters, Francine Emerson of Atwood, Tenn., Mary Porter of Huntingon, Tenn., and Lorene Emerson of Augusta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; sisters, Julia Stokes of Bronx, N.Y., Frances Capers of Orlando, Fla., Wilene King of Brooklyn, N.Y., Nola (Leroy) Simons or Orlando, Lillie Mae Capers of Orlando; sisters-in-law, Anne (Herbert, deceased) Capers of Sumter, Elizabeth (Jesse, deceased) Capers of New York City, Bobbie Johnson of Jamaica, N.Y., and Vester Conner of Memphis, Tenn.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. D.L. Grant, presiding, the Rev. Dr. L.W. Walker Sr., delivering the eulogy, the Rev. Richard James, the Rev. John C. Walker, and the Rev. L.W. Walker Jr., assisting.

Burial will be in the Walker cemetery.

MELISSA L. SUTTON

Melissa Leigh Sutton, 25, daughter of Cynthia and Bruce Parker, and Lendon Sutton, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter.

ETHREDGE M. BARWICK Sr.

Ethredge Myron Barwick Sr., age 72, husband of 44 years to Katherine Jacobs Barwick, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care.

He was born in Clarendon County the son of the late Charlie L. Barwick and Alice Logan Barwick. He retired from The United Insurance Co. and was a member of The American Legion Post No. 15. He was a member of St. John's Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Dr. Ethredge Myron Barwick Jr. and his wife, Lucy Manning Barwick, of Columbia; one brother, Charles E Barwick of Dalzell; four sisters, Ruby B. Bryant of Columbia, Edith B. Hardy of Manning, Lois B. Poston of Great Falls and Esther B. Thomas of Manning; and three grandchildren, Katharine Woodliff Barwick, Leila Sanford Barwick and Myron Manning Barwick, all of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeffrey Scott Barwick; and one brother, Gene W. Barwick.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larue Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Methodist Church cemetery in Alcolu.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of his son in Columbia.

Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 136 Poinsett Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

EILEEN GAUVREAU

Eileen Marlyn Dunn Gauvreau, age 73, wife of the late Charles William Gauvreau, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, a daughter of the late Michael Edward Dunn and Matilda Marie LaLonde Dunn. She was a former manager with AT&T for 37 years. She was an avid reader, loved to crochet and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a very active member of St. Catherine's LaBoure Church in Wheaton, Md.

Surviving are four sons, William Michael Gauvreau of Jessup, Md., Robert Allen Gauvreau of Sumter, David James Gauvreau of Sumter, and Patrick Thomas Gauvreau of Beaufort; one daughter, Linda Gauvreau Fassanella of Middletown, Md.; three brothers, George Dunn, Gerald Dunn and Michael Dunn; three sisters, Delores Pestinger, Verna Bell and Shirley Armstrong; six grandchildren; and a beloved companion, Al Canzoneri.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers, Linus "Eddie" Dunn, David Dunn, James Dunn, Frank Dunn; and five sisters, Eunice Lyons, Laura Ball, Mildred Neil, Vivian Stout and Joan Duke.

Funeral services will be held in Silver Springs, Md.

The family will receive friends locally from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Bullock Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 332 North Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105-2479.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.
