ROYCE D. DICKSON Jr.

BISHOPVILLE -- Royce D. Dickson Jr., 47, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

Born in Dallas County, Texas, he was a son of Royce D. Dickson Sr. and the late Zerna Pestriedge Dickson. He was a self-employed painter.

Survivors include his father of Malacoff, Texas; a son; and two sisters.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

MARGARET E. FORD

BEDFORD -- Margaret Evelyn Ford, 73, of 604 'V' St., Bedford, died at 2:40 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 11, 1931, in Oswego, she was the daughter of Harrison B. and Pearl Louise (Hodge) Watts. She married Howard W. (Tim) Ford on March 31, 1951, and he survives. She had been employed at Southern Bell, General Motors, Sarkes-Tarzion and CRANE. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women's Club and AARP.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Lea Ann Camp and her husband, Pastor Melvin Camp, of Worthington, Ind., and Lisa Ann Ford Brown and her husband, Bruce, of Columbia, Mo.; two grandchildren, Jenna and Elizabeth Camp; one brother, Benny Watts of Georgia; three nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Private memorial services are planned.

No calling hours are scheduled.

Arrangements are under the direction of Day & Carter Mortuary.

The family asks that friends consider contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church in memory of Margaret Evelyn Ford.

SHIRLEY RIDGEWAY

MANNING -- Shirley Ann Lowder Ridgeway, 63, wife of James Furman Ridgeway Sr., died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 22, 1940, in Charleston, she was a daughter of the late David McQuin and Mattie Barnes Lowder. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Davis Station.

Surviving besides her husband of Manning are three sons, Jimmy Ridgeway and wife, Missy, of Manning, David Ridgeway and wife, Kathy, of Port Barre, La., and Chris Ridgeway of Manning; two sisters, Judy Haley and Gloria Lowder of Manning; three brothers, Jack Lowder of Wilson, Sam Lowder of Gable and Pete Lowder of Manning; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Miriam Hadden officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery in Davis Station.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Shirley Ridgeway Memorial Fund of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Gladys Griffin, 1372 White Oak Drive, Manning, SC 29102.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of the arrangements.

ALICE PARSON

MANNING -- Alice Parson, 78, died May 21, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born Jan. 12, 1925, in the Jordan community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Parson Sr. and Agnes Hilton. She received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. She joined Trinity AME Church at an early age. She was an avid supporter of the Manning "Monarch" High School athletic program, attending all football and basketball games.

Survivors include two daughters, Janett Parson of the home and Cynthia (C. Eric) Spencer of Rochester, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Eric S. (Andrea) Spencer of Rochester, N.Y., and Lakisha Spencer of Columbia; three great-grandchildren, Brooke, Isaiah and Amiyah, all of Rochester, N.Y.; a devoted nephew and niece, Fladger and Juanita Parson of Manning; a devoted caretaker, Sarah Lee Anderson of Manning; and two very close friends, Edith Martin and Diane Blanding, both of Manning.

She was preceded in death by one sister and seven brothers.

The remains will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. today.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. today at Trinity AME Church, 39 W. Rigby St., Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Bennie Colclough, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Ashley Vaughn, the Rev. W.J. Frierson and the Rev. Dr. Cokley Richburg.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be friends of the family.

The family will receive friends at the home, 7 South St., Manning.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

CLARA MAE G. SIMIEN

Clara Mae Green Simien, 68, widow of Charles J. Simien Sr., died May 21, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 20, 1935, in St. Charles, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Mattie Howard Green. She received her early Christian experiences at Unionville AME Church, St. Charles. In her young adult life, she joined St. Mark United Methodist Church, Mayesville, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the senior and gospel choirs, and a former member of the steward board. She received her education in the public schools of Lee and Sumter counties. In 1955, she graduated from Mayesville Institute, where her great love was music and joyfully singing in the Glee Club. She worked in various job positions during her lifetime. However, her greatest joy was rearing her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Survivors include three sons, Charles (Tovia) Simien Jr. of Waldorf, Md., Bernard Simien of Irmo and Robert M. (Barbara) Simien of Bishopville; one daughter, Felicia (Leon) Bates of the home; one grandnephew and two grandnieces whom she shared in their rearing, James (Mamie) Wilson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Margaret (Elliott) Wilder of Sumter and Janie Wilson of New York City; 18 grandchildren, Letitia and Leon, both of the home, Charlene and Lakeisha (Willie), who were reared in the home, Roshonda, Ricky, Tanya, Carl, Chenathia, Daphney, Ladoria, Mindora, Anastasia, Neequaye, Jaime, Elena, Gregory and Darron; eight great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Andrew Cousar of Richmond, Va.; two devoted friends, Ruby Cooper and Jessie Mae Harvin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Stacy Dees; one grandson, Ricardo B. Jefferson; six siblings, Wallace Howard, Margaret Wilson, Jesse Green Jr., Janie Wilson, Corine Cousar and Charlie Green.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at St. Mark United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie C. Thomas Jr., pastor, assisted by the Revs. Vermelle Humes, Willie Lawson and Telley L. Gadson.

Burial will be in Mayesville cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Friday.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 196 Willow St., Mayesville 29104.

SYLVIA T. McCRAY

Sylvia Theresa McCray died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at her residence in Sumter.

Born in Sumter County on May 31, 1964, she was the 11th child of the late Rev. Henry McCray and Louise Brown McCray. "Sylv, " as she was affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Sumter High School in the Class of 1982. She later attended and was licensed by Chris Logan School of Cosmetology in Sumter. At an early age, she joined the Olden Chapel UME Church, where she sang on the church choir. She was employed by Vera's Hair Styling and later by Minnie Phases Salon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie and Ronnie McCray; and two sisters, Sheryl McCray and Ailene Dennis.

She leaves to cherish precious memories her loving companion of 14 years, Ulysses Franklin Jr. of Sumter; three children, Rashad Antwan McCray, Hendresha Shajuan McCray and Andy Sharrod Franklin, all of Sumter; three sisters, Erma McCray (James) Alston, Bernard (James) Webb of Sumter and Mary (Bob) Robey of Delaware; three brothers, Henry McCray Jr. of Sumter, Timothy (Janis) McCray of Lithonia, Ga., and Lorenzo (Andrea) McCray of Columbia; two granddaughters, Shaunquielle Latae McCray and Knyah Monea Briggs, both of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Olden Chapel UME Church, Sumter, with the Rev. Gloria S. Brown, pastor, assisted by Elder Terry Franklin, the Rev. Woodrow Williams, and Minister Joseph Watkins.

The remains will be placed in the church from noon until the hour of service.

Burial will be in Walker cemetery, Sumter.

The funeral procession will leave at noon from the residence, 227 East Red Bay Road, Sumter.

The family will also receive friends at 277 East Red Bay Road, Sumter.

ROBERT H. GRAHAM

Robert H. "Bobby" Graham, 58, husband of Diane Overby Graham, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter County, he was a son of Robert James Graham and Dorothy Mae Anderson Graham. Mr. Graham was a member of Northside Baptist Church and co-owner and operator of Quality Steel Co.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; his parents of Sumter; a daughter, Marie Graham Maynard and husband, Wally, of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Sissy Graham of Sumter; a brother, James Graham of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Graham, David Graham, Ryan Graham, Brittany Ardis, Kelsey Ardis, Sheldon Coker and Brianna Graham.

He was preceded in death by his son, David H. Graham Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Land, Byron Ardis, Jay Geddings, Jerry Geddings, Donald Jones, Ronald Jones, David Jones and Douglas Jones.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2635 Stern Drive.

JOHN E. ROGERSON Jr.

John Edward Rogerson Jr., 87, husband of Ellen Segars Rogerson, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Georgetown County, he was a son of the late John E. Rogerson Jr. and the late Lester "Lessie" Porter Rogerson. Mr. Rogerson was a member of Bible Fellowship Church. He was former owner of Rogerson's Front End Service for 25 years. He was a 1934 graduate of Boys High School in Sumter. He was well known for his sense of humor.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; a daughter, Celeste Carraway and husband, Warren, of Sumter; three sons, John E. Rogerson III of Asheville, N.C., Burrell S. Rogerson and wife, Jean, and Joseph B. "Joey" Rogerson and wife, Kathy, all of Sumter; a foster son, Joe Grant and wife, Donna, of Clover; a brother, Daniel DuRant "D.D." Rogerson and wife, Virginia, of Florence; 10 grandchildren, Frankie Carraway and wife, Leigh, of Sumter, Eddie Carraway and wife, Wanda, of Sumter, Teresa J. Rogerson of California, Carmen R. Anderson and husband, Joe, of North Carolina, Buddy Rogerson and wife, Jennifer, Jennifer Rowell and husband, Michael, Lindsay Rogerson, Dane Griffin, Ben Rogerson and Evan Rogerson, all of Sumter; and four great-grandchildren, Tanner Carraway, Addison Carraway, Kendal Carraway and Luke Anderson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Claire R. Doby and Carolyn Rogerson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bible Fellowship Church with the Rev. Jack Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in Sumter cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Frankie Carraway, Eddie Carraway, Buddy Rogerson, Michael Rowell, Ben Rogerson and Evan Rogerson.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Bible Class.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 138 Horseshoe Cove.

Memorials may be made to the Renovation Fund of Bible Fellowship Church, 227 Broad St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to a charity of one's choice.

WILLIAM R. MORRIS

SUMMERTON -- William Roland Morris, 71, widower of Susan Sadler Morris, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born March 5, 1933, in Lancaster, Ohio, he was a son of the late William Burr and Helen Lucille Leoghnar Morris. He was a retired plant supervisor, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are two sons, William Morris Jr. of Maine and Eric Morris of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Brenda Morris of Daytona, Fla.; a brother, Jerry Morris of Raleigh, N.C.; three sisters, Kathy Young of West Virginia, Vicki Kaderbeck of Cleveland and Jean Klasinski Morris of Tallahassee, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
