EARL JENKINS

Mr. Earl "Nunkie" Jenkins passed on Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was a son of Mrs. Mary Rembert and the late Mr. George Rhodeson, born Oct. 9, 1951, in Sumter. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Job Corps in 1972. At an early age, he joined the Church of God by Faith Inc., Sumter, where he served as an usher for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Bobie Rhodes Jenkins of Sumter; two children, Earl Jenkins Jr. and Tywanna Monique Jenkins, both of Sumter; one grandson, Earl Juwain Jenkins of Sumter; five brothers, David Jenkins of Columbia, George (Minnie) Rhodes of Sumter, Joseph (Mary) Rhodes of Dalzell, Titus (Roberta) Rembert of Wedgefield and Charles Rembert of Sumter; and one sister, Julia Gaymon of Sumter.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Church of God by Faith, Sumter, with the Rev. James Lucas, pastor, officiating Pastor Joseph Rhodes, assisting by Minister David Laws, Minister E. Barnes and the Rev. L.W. Barnes. Burial will follow in Bradford cemetery.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of his wife, 534 S. Harvin St., Sumter, and his mother, 439 Loring Place, Sumter.

Viewing will take place at Community Funeral Home from 1 until 9 p.m.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

LUELLAR MITCHELL

NEW YORK -- Mrs. Luellar Mitchell, 81, widow of Mr. Arthur Mitchell, died May 8, 2004, at St. John Hospital in New York.

Born Feb. 7, 1923, in Williamsburg, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Mr. Augie and Mrs. Floria Nesmith Morris. She was a member of Bethel AME Church and served as a member of the stewardess and steward boards, usher board, senior and gospel choirs, missionary society and as mother of the church.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Mitchell of Arverne, N.Y., and Lavell Mitchell of Andrews, S.C.; five daughters, Olivia Thames and Deborah David, both of Manning, S.C., Mildred Emerson, Carleen Mitchell and Sydell Cook, all of New York; two sisters, Lillie Beeks of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Bulen Stokes of Titusville, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today at Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, N.Y. Burial will be in Long Island National cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.

NANETTE MILLING

COLUMBIA -- A memorial service for Nanette Currie Milling, 85, will be held on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 N. Trenholm Road in Columbia.

The family will receive friends following the service in the parlor of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. A graveside service will be held in Old Greenwood cemetery on Cambridge Street in Greenwood on Friday at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Dr. James St. John will officiate at both services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, and to Blyth Funeral Home in Greenwood.

Mrs. Milling died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Palmetto Health Baptist Columbia Hospital. Born on April 17, 1919 in Albany, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Fletcher Thomas and Nan Chapman Currie of Greenwood.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John Butler Milling Sr. of Columbia; sons, John B. Milling Jr.of Wedgefield and Brooks C. Milling of Columbia; daughters, Gail M. Gore of McCormick and Cynthia M. Jackson of Newberry; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, Dr. Howard Currie of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.

Her grandson, Michael J. Milling, preceded her in death.

JOSEPH CHARLES SHADE

DALZELL -- Joseph Charles Shade, 51, beloved husband of 25 years to Deborah Evenich Shade, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Shade was born in Detroit a son of the late Ivan C. Shade and Luella Bennett Shade. He grew up in Michigan and graduated from South Lake High School in St. Claire Shores, Mich. He served in the Air Force for 24 years and retired as a master sergeant. He later worked at Gold Kist and Piggly Wiggly. He was an avid golfer and was a devoted husband and father who will be greatly missed. He was a member of Our Lady of the Sky's Catholic Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Brandon C. Shade of Dalzell; one brother, Douglas Larivee and his wife, Becky, of Grass Lake, Mich.; three nephews, Robbie Christmas of Jacksonville, Fla., Shane Evenich and Charles J. Evenich Jr., both of Sumter; one niece, Tiffany Apgar of Astor, Fla.; two godchildren, Justin Larivee and Patrick Larivee, both of Grass Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Father Daniel Carboy C.S.s.R. officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Gordon, Bryan Prescott, Doug Larivee, Charles J. Evenich Sr., Patrick D. Evenich and Brandon Shade. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Gold Kist and Piggly Wiggly.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

SAMUEL RAMEY

Samuel M. Ramey, 83, husband of Mildred M. Ramey, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at a local nursing center.

Born in Yell County, Ark., he was a son of the late Fred Ramey and the late Golia R. Apple Ramey. Mr. Ramey was a member of St. John United Methodist Church. He was a retired U.S. Army captain and a veteran of World War II. He was a recipient of two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts. He was a past master of Claremont Masonic Lodge No. 264 and a past patron of Sumter Chapter No. 188 Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; a son, Samuel D. Ramey of Dardanelle, Ark.; a stepson, Retired U.S. Navy Capt. Eugene M. DuCom of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara R. Dunning of Woodbridge, Va.; a stepdaughter, Patricia D. Lynn of Occoquan, Va.; a brother, Lloyd F. Ramey of North Little Rock, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. LaRue Cook officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at Morningside of Sumter, 2500 Lin-Do Court.

Memorials may be made to St. John United Methodist Church, 136 Poinsett Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

VERNA A. SHOMO

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Verna A. Shomo, 74, of 1544 Robert Road, died Friday evening, May 14, 2004, at Essa Flory Hospice Center after a brief illness.

Mrs. Shomo retired in 1987 from RCA Corp., where she was a credit union loan officer for 20 years. Prior to that, she was a teller at the former Hamilton Bank. She was a member of Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd, where she was a former choir member and a member of the Senior Shepherds.

A 1948 graduate of McCaskey High School, she took accounting courses at Franklin & Marshall College and Penn State University.

She enjoyed traveling to Europe, Switzerland, Ireland, Italy and Greece and going on Mediterranean cruises. She also enjoyed swimming and reading.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late William and Sarah Test McComsey.

She would have celebrated her 56th wedding anniversary with Harvey M. Shomo on June 20.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Patrick H. Shomo of Ephrata and Michael R., married to Cynthia K. Shomo of Leola; a daughter, Leslie S., married to Robert C. Sheaffer of Manning; four grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Homer Urban.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial service from the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 750 Greenfield Road, Lancaster, Pa., at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Mark L. Russell officiating. Interment in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

RICARDO B. JEFFERSON

MAYESVILLE -- Ricardo Bernard Jefferson, 15, died May 16, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 9, 1988, in Sumter, he was a son of Wanda Teresa Jefferson and Bernard Simien. He attended the public schools of Sumter and Richland counties. He was a member of "Evergrowing" Ebenezer AME Church, Mayesville.

Survivors besides his parents include two brothers, Ricky R.D. Jefferson of the home and Malik R. Matthew of Mayesville; one sister, Lakeisha S. Jefferson of Mayesville; maternal grandparents, Ruby Mae Temoney and James E. Temoney, and paternal grandmother, Clara Simien, all of Mayesville; nine aunts; eight uncles; two granduncles; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles Simien Sr.; and one aunt, Stacy S. Deas.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer AME Church, Mayesville, with the Rev. Leo Chapman Jr., pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Vermelle Humes. Burial will be in Mayesville cemetery, Mayesville.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his mother, Wanda T. Jefferson, Third Street, Avenue B, Mayesville, SC 29104.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

PATSY G. DORITY

Patsy Griffith Dority, age 63, beloved wife of 45 years to William B. "Bill" Dority, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

She was born in Sumter the daughter of Ora Lee Jones Griffith and the late John W. Griffith. She worked at the Kroger Grocery Store and was an artist and a seamstress. She collected porcelain dolls and loved watching her grandchildren play baseball. She was an elder at The Concord Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Evening Circle.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are one son, Chris L. Dority and his wife, Ginny, of Sumter; one daughter, Debbie D. Miles and her husband, Jimmy, of Sumter; one brother, the Rev. James W. "Buddy" Griffith of Sumter; three sisters, Jonice Powell of Port Ritchie, Fla., Brenda Garcia of California and Danni Alderman of Sumter; four grandchildren, Casey Dority, Witt Dority, Andrew Miles and Matthew Miles.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at The Concord Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bill Albert and the Rev. Buddy Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord Presbyterian Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bullock Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to The Concord Presbyterian Church "Building Fund, " 3350 E. Brewington Road, Sumter, SC 29153.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

JERRY L. PRINCE

MANNING -- Jerry Leroy Prince, 81, died May 19, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born June 13, 1922, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Sammy Whack and Alma Davis Prince and stepson of the late Isaac Prince.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Leslie "Snoody" and Elizabeth Prince Heyward, 825 W. Huggins St., Manning.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
