VIRGINIA O. LAMB

WEDGEFIELD -- Virginia Overfield Lamb, 78, widow of Robert Ray Lamb, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at her home.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Overfield and the late Mary Krause Overfield. Mrs. Lamb was a member of Wedgefield Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Darlene Reeves of Wedgefield; four sons, Timothy L. Stiltner and his wife, Anita, of Michigan, William J. Stiltner, Robert Ray Lamb Jr. and his wife, Betty, all of Wedgefield, and Richard Lamb and his wife, Sue, of Virginia; five grandchildren, Timothy Lee Stiltner Jr. and Christopher "Bear" Stiltner, both of Michigan, Joel Moye, Kevin Moye and his wife, Heather, all of Sumter, and Desirae Lamb of Wedgefield.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Wedgefield Baptist Church with the Rev. Darryl Davids officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bud Ivey, Mike Ardis, Joel Moye, Kevin Moye, Timothy Lee Stiltner Jr. and Christopher "Bear" Stiltner.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Lucus and Matt Carroll.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2135 S.C. 261-S, Wedgefield.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 500 Taylor St., Suite No.101, Columbia, SC 29201.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

MARION PITTS Sr.

Marion Pitts Sr., 77, husband of the Rev. Lue R. Pitts, died May 6 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. He was born June 12, 1926, in Sumter the son of Clayburn Pitts Sr. and Fannie Milligan Pitts.

He received his formal education in Sumter County School District 2. At an early age, he accepted Christ and became a member of St. Paul AME Chuch. Serving in many capacities to include the Trustee Board, Steward Board and as a class leader, he continued his spiritual growth. As his health declined, he was appointed Emeritus. He was employed by Boyles Construction Company and E.H. Lynam Construction Company, from which he retired.

Survivors besides his wife, include three sons, Marion (Shanna) Pitts Jr. and Glen Pitts, both of Sumter and Chris Olden of Columbia; one daughter, Shirley Flack of Marietta, Ga.; six brothers, Howard (Viola) Pitts, Samuel (Rhunetta) Pitts, James (Bernice) Pitts, Ervin (Lottie) Pitts, all of Sumter, Albert Pitts of Indianapolis, Ind., and the Rev. Ernest (Clara) Pitts of Fort Washington, Md.; two sisters, Naomi (Calvin) Walker of Sumter and Maria Gooden of Upper Marlboro, Md.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, a special daughter, Pamela Lewis; six god-children; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Herbert, Cornell, Lewis, Elizah and Clayburn Pitts; and three sisters, Julia Hutlin, Rachel Harvin and Elizabeth Frierson.

A wake will be held today, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Job's Mortuary Inc, 312 S. Main St.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 10, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church in Sumter. The Rev. James Cooper will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Paul AME Church cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 270 N. St. Paul Church Road, Sumter.

Job's Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

MARY DISHER

Mary Elizabeth Carter Disher, 81, wife of the late Melvin Disher, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Disher was born in Sumter a daughter of the late Jessie C. and Willie Margaret Joyner Carter. She was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Jerry Disher and his wife, Gayle, of Sumter and Gene Disher and his wife, Jennifer, of Sumter; three daughters, Tammy Disher McCutcheon and her husband, Lonnie, of Olanta, Beth Disher Mathis and her husband, Dell, of Sumter and Lynn Disher of Sumter; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Jack Carter and Lonnie Carter; and one sister, Mertie Carter Bradham.

A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Sumter cemetery with Rev. Jackie Jenkins officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. today at Bullock Funeral Home prior to the graveside service and other times at the son's residence on Short Leaf Drive.

Memorials may be sent to New Calvary Baptist Church, 38 Center St., Sumter, SC 29150, or to Camp Scamp c/o Tuomey Foundation, 129 N. Washington St., Sumter, SC 29150.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter for the arrangements.

OLIVER WITHERSPOON

COLUMBIA -- Oliver Witherspoon, husband of Lillie Mae Fisher Witherspoon, died May 9, 2004, at InterMedical Hospital.

Born March 14, 1929, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Oliver Witherspoon Sr. and Bertha McBride Witherspoon.

The family will receive friends at 612 Brockington St., Sumter.

Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter.

ELLA G. CANTY

Ella Cordelia Gallashaw Canty, 88, widow of Eugene Canty, died May 9, 2004, at Mariner Health of Sumter East.

Born June 15, 1915, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Matthew D. Gallashaw Sr. and Rosa Brown Gallashaw. She grew up in the Dalzell community and was educated in the Sumter County schools. She was a lifelong Presbyterian, growing up in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church (USA). She retired from the housekeeping department at Tuomey Healthcare System.

Survivors include one stepson, Aaron (Dorothy) Abram of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one daughter, Ella A. (Brad) Bradford of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Victoria Gallashaw; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Syrenius Abram, Ernest Montgomery and Eugene Canty; two brothers, Emmett and Matthew Gallashaw; three sisters, Ethel Pearson, Anzeline J. Davis and Estelle Porcher; one son, Emmett Abram; two stepsons, Albert and Earl Abram; and one granddaughter, LaTonja A. Lanier.

The wake service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church (USA), 4620 Queen Chapel Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Dr. Lutrelle Rainey Sr., officiating minister, assisted by Elder S.J. Isaac. Burial will be in Ebenezer Presbyterian Churchyard cemetery, Dalzell.

Pallbearers will be United Presbyterian Men and friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be United Presbyterian Women.

The funeral procession will leave at 1:15 p.m. from the home of her daughter, Ella A. Bradford, 1720 Gafton Circle, Sumter.

The family requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 4620 Queen Chapel Road, Dalzell, SC 29040.

MARIE JOHNSON

BISHOPVILLE -- Marie Johnson died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 109 Blue Bird Lane, Bishopville.

Funeral services will be announced by Square Deal Funeral Home of Bishopville.

PAULINE FRANCIS

Pauline Francis, 93, died May 26, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 15, 1910, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Walter Francis and Florence Pringle Francis.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

WILLIE J. SEALS Sr.

MANNING -- Deacon Willie James Seals Sr., 89, widower of Gladys Henrietta Mason and Eloise Dickerson Seals, died May 26, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born Sept. 16, 1914, in the Zoe Hill community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Elijah Seals and Florence Richburg Seals.

The family is receiving friends at his residence, 2018 Old Georgetown Road, Manning, starting Sunday afternoon.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

LELLA MAE M. NELSON

MANNING -- Lella Mae Merchant Nelson, 65, widow of Jerry Nelson, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

She was the daughter of the late Peter Merchant and Ida Mae James.

The family will receive friends at 1104 Heriott St., Manning, SC 29102.

Services will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Blackwell Funeral Home of Manning.

BARBARA ANN BRUNSON

SUMMERTON -- Barbara Ann Brunson, 40, died May 25, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born July 20, 1963, in Summerton, she was a stepdaughter of Morris Jones and daughter of the late Rosa Brunson Jones. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County and was a 1981 graduate of Scott's Branch High School, Summerton. In her youth, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Mt. Pleasant UME Church, where she served faithfully until her health failed. She was employed at Santee Resort.

Survivors include her stepfather, Morris Jones of Summerton; two brothers, Eddie Lee and Abraham Brunson of White Plains, N.Y.; four sisters, Daisy (Henry) White of New York, N.Y., Betty (Anthony) Webb of Summerton, Mary Jane (Joseph) Gunter of Brown Mill, N.J., Elanora Adams of Summerton.

She was preceded in death by a brother, George "Shakey" Brunson.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Pleasant UME Church, Panola community, Pinewood, with the Rev. James Robinson, pastor, assisting the Rev. Roosevelt Boyd, presiding Revs. Bobby McDonald, David Lawson and Johnathan Smith.

Pallbearers will be Class of 1981 of Scott's Branch High School.

Floral bearers will be Class of 1981 of Scott's Branch High School.

The family will receive friends at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Anthony and Betty Webb, 1095 Sessions St., Summerton.
