MANNING -- Edith Elisa Mitchum, 62, wife of John Wesley Mitchum, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born March 13, 1942, in Andrews, she was a daughter of the late James Craven and Mary Ruth Carter Griffin. She was a retired seamstress and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.

Surviving besides her husband of Manning are two daughters, Sheila Ridgeway and Eva Lou Rhodus, both of Manning; a son, Howard Lavern Harrington of Manning; a sister, Nell Odom of Warner Robbins, Ga.; a brother, Gene Griffin of Aiken; four half-sisters, Connie Langley, Patricia Ridgeway and Debbie Brogdon of Manning and Sharon Daniels of Sumter; two half-brothers, John Summers of Manning and Edward Summers of Columbia; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Kevin Cribb officiating, assisted by the Rev. C.S. Salter. Burial will follow in Oak Grove cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lee Rhodus, Dawayne Miles, Donnie Dixon, Freddie Mitchum, Johnny Barrett and Mark Russell.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Memorials may be made to Elisa Mitchum Fund, c/o Stephens Funeral Home, P.O. Box 176, Manning, SC 29102.

MARQUITA E. DUPREE

MANNING -- Marquita Elaine Dupree, 31, died July 19, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born July 29, 1972, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of James Wilferd Dupree and Caretha Lasaine Dupree.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1202 Baxley Drive off Flynn Road, Manning.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

FRANCES M. DENNIS

Frances Mertie Dennis, 95, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Jon Heathley Dennis and the late Mary Beck Pate Dennis. Miss Dennis was a lifetime member of St. Marks United Methodist Church. She attended Sumter area schools and graduated from Sumter High School. She was retired from Production Credit Association, an affiliate of AgFirst Farm Credit Bank, in 1974.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. J. Harold (Ethelyne Dennis) Wilson of Mayesville; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Elihu (Bertha Mae Prescott) Dennis of Sumter; four nieces, Patricia Ann Dennis, Gail Dennis Cobb and Donna Dennis Brown, all of Sumter, and Mary Wilson LaRoche of Johns Island; and a nephew, Robert L. Scott of Baltimore.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Laurie Dennis, Lacey Dennis, Nolan Dennis and Elihu Dennis, and a sister, Lorena Scott.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Robert Lee Eubanks officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Marks United Methodist Church, 27 Broad St., Sumter, SC 29150.

ANNE S. GRAHAM

MONCKS CORNER -- Anne Sports Price Graham, 75, of Myrtle Beach, died Monday, in a Myrtle Beach hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. Interment will follow in St. Stephen Episcopal Church cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Low Country Chapter, Attn: Louise Welch, 5290 Rivers Ave., N. Charleston, SC 29406.

Mrs. Graham was born Sept. 9, 1928, in Rhems, a daughter of Charlie Wright Sports and Mellie Corinne Gibson Sports. She was the widow of Frank A. Price and Robert V. Graham. She was a member of the Lake Marion Baptist Church in Summerton. She was a former volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Mobile for many years.

Surviving are two daughters, Alice P. Stevens of Hanahan and Susan P. Huggins of Myrtle Beach; two sons, Frank A. Price of Rock Hill and Charles D. Price of Friolzheim, Germany; four sisters, Bertha S. Purvis of Maggie Valley, N.C., Margaret S. Hyman of Effingham and Mattie S. Calcutt and Margie S. Lee, both of Florence; three brothers, George W. Sports of Charleston, Charlie W. Sports of Florence and William D. Sports of Effingham; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

JIMMIE GARY

On Thursday morning, July 15, 2004, Mr. Jimmie Gary, 89, of 12 E. Fulton St., passed away at his home.

Born May 5, 1915, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Mr. Wash Gary and Mrs. Martha Brown Gary. He attended the public schools of Clarendon County and was a member of Mt. Pleasant UME Church in Pinewood. Mr. Gary worked many years for Georgia-Pacific Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Willie Mae Tindal Gary of the home; four sons, Mr. Allen Tindal and his wife, Loretta, Mr. Steve Tindal and his wife, Teresa, and Kenneth Tindal, all of Sumter, Mr. Johnnie Tindal of Loretta, Pa.; five daughters, Mrs. Ann Smith and her husband, Morgan, of Wildwood, N.J., Mrs. Sandra Hill and her husband, Levern, Mrs. Martha Spann and her husband, Johnny, Ms. Cynthia Bethune and Mrs. Yvette Durant and her husband, Roosevelt, all of Sumter; one sister, Mrs. Mary Bowman of Wilmington, N.C.; 40 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Pleasant UME Church, Pinewood, with the Rev. James O. Robinson, pastor, assisting by Presiding Elder Roosevelt Boyd and the Rev. Leroy T. James. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today, 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Wednesday and then from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the church.

The family is receiving visitors at the home, 12 E. Fulton St., where the procession will leave from at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of these arrangements.

WILMA J. ROBINSON

Wilma J. Walker Robinson, 63, wife of Charles E. Robinson, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at her home.

Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Walker and the late Ivylle McClard Walker.

Surviving are her husband of the home; a daughter, Danyiel Robinson of Sumter; a grandson, Lake Clark of Sumter; two brothers, Theodore Walker and Joseph Walker, both of Sumter; a sister, Doris W. Johnson of Charleston; 10 nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Morse; two brothers, Johnny Walker and Larry Walker.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Sumter cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eric Gullquist, Paul Gullquist, Mark Moser, Curtis Clark, Sammy Convertino and Lynn Schafer.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

EURLEE McDONALD

BISHOPVILLE -- Mrs. Eurlee "Bee" McDonald died July 18, 2004, at Lexington Medical Center Extension in Lexington.

The family will receive friends at the home, 411 Fountain Hill Drive, Bishopville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

SUMMERTON -- Janet Marie Elias, 51, died July 18, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born Nov. 24, 1952, in California, she was a daughter of Teresa Martinz and the late Frank Elias.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

ETHEL BURGESS

ALCOLU -- Ethel Annie Mae Preston Burgess, 77, widow of the Rev. Golden Burgess, died July 18, 2004, at Hopewell Healthcare Center, Sumter.

Born in Kingstree, Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Preston and Rebecca Redden.

The family will receive friends at the home, 8036 Juneburn Road, Alcolu.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

LAWTON JAMES Jr.

BISHOPVILLE -- The Rev. Lawton James Jr., 85, widower of Marie McDonald James, died July 20, 2004, at McCoy Memorial Nursing Center, Bishopville.

Born Nov. 25, 1918, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Lawton James Sr. and Eva Wright James.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Mrs. Eva Lytch, 1640 Elliott Highway (S.C. 527), Elliott.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

LEE D. EFFERSON

Lee "Hitter" Dozier Efferson, 83, husband of Estelle L. Ray Efferson, died July 14, 2004, at Hopewell Healthcare Center.

Born Aug. 29, 1920, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Jessie and Martha A. Thompson Efferson. He attended the public schools of Sumter County. For 45 years, he was employed by Georgia Pacific. Seeking divine guidance, he joined High Hills AME Church of Dalzell at an early age. He was a member of the Atlantic Avenue Checker Club and a great fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Survivors besides his wife include daughters, Nicole Ray of the home, Vonda Kay (Dion) Taylor of Germany, Windy (Joseph) Pugh, Debra (Leroy) Witherspoon and Martha Jefferson, all of Sumter, and Joyce Jones of Tampa, Fla.; sons, Herbert (Debra) Ray and Kenneth Ray, both of Columbia; one brother, James (Beatrice) Efferson of Philadelphia; four sisters-in-law, Mary Efferson of Roanoka, Va., Minnie L. Cooper of Silver Springs, Md., Daisy Potts of East Orange, N.J., and Mary Russ of Orange, N.J.; two brothers-in-law, Zack Linton of Florence and Richard M. Linton of Sparks, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Pinkney and Ethel Davis; four brothers, Frazier Efferson, Jessie Efferson, George Efferson and Junior "Epp" Efferson.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at High Hills AME Church, Dalzell, with the Rev. M. Charmaine Ragin, pastor, assisted by the Revs. Jeffrey Wilson, M.G. Walters and Dr. James Blassingame. Burial will be in the High Hills AME Church cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 238 Cedar, Sumter, SC 29154.

PEARL M. WALKER

PERTH AMBOY, N.J. -- Pearl Mary Walker died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at her residence.

Born in Mayesville, S.C., on Jan. 15, 1939, she was a daughter of Nettie Green Johnson and the late James Johnson Sr. She graduated from Eastern High School, Mayesville, in 1956. She married Otis Jerome Walker in December 1956, and to this loving union three children were born. Mrs. Walker was employed as a nurses aide at SeaView Hospital for 15 years. She served as chairwoman of the Municipal Union-District 37. She worked and retired as an insurance agent with John Hancock Insurance Co.

Surviving in addition to her mother, Nettie G. Johnson, are three daughters, AnnMarie Walker of Staten Island, N.Y., Kim Walker Darby of Perth Amboy, and Lori Walker McGhaney of Sumter, S.C.; three grandchildren, Melvin Hinton Jr. of Sumter, Robert Gibson III and Joseph Darby, both of Perth Amboy; one great-grandchild, Jayla Monique Gibson; two sisters, Annette Johnson Alexander of Staten Island and Sallie Johnson of Dalzell, S.C.; one brother, James Johnson Jr. of Alexandria, Va.

Memorial services were held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, Rahway, N.J.

Stratford Funeral Home, Staten Island, N.Y., was in charge of arrangements.
