CLAYTON HANCOCK

LUGOFF -- Funeral services for Clayton Belmont Hancock, 79, will be held on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at 4 p.m. in Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The Rev. Greg Sweet and the Rev. Tommy Browne will officiate. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. in Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. Memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church, 106 Longtown Road, Lugoff, SC 29078 or to Hospice of Kershaw County, 2001 West DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020.

Clayton died July 30, 2004, at Palmetto Health Richland after a long illness. Born in Ashwood, he was the son of the late James B. and Cila Troublefield Hancock. He was employed for many years at DuPont and the McClean Trucking Company of Lugoff. Mr. Hancock was an active member of the Adult Senior Class.

Surviving are his wife, Elise Rabon Hancock; daughter Rebecca Gainey of Cassatt; grandchildren, Joe Gainey and Jennifer Baker; great-grandson, Will Sowell; sister, Myrtle Shore of Columbia; brother, Bruce Hancock of Sumter. He was predeceased by sisters, Idell Brown and Melissa Coulter, brother, Russell B. Hancock.

Pallbearers will be Tim Browne, Mike Parnell, Dallas Rabon, Mike Hancock, John Mizell, Bob Horton and Stan Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Lugoff First Baptist Church and the member of Ed Fields Sunday School Class.

Kornegay Funeral Home of Camden is in charge of arrangements.

CREE BAKER

MANNING -- Cree Ustine Bryer Baker, 90, of Lakewood Drive, widow of Harry "Ace" Baker, died Friday, July 30, 2004, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born Sept. 18, 1913, in East Youngstown, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Steve and Veronica Melek Bryer. She worked 25 years as a florist with Briel's Flowers in Youngstown.

Surviving are a son, Ronald Baker and wife, Sandy, of Manning; a sister, Frances Schmidt of Austintown, Ohio; two brothers, Larry Bryer of Austintown, Ohio and Edward Bryer of Lowellville, Ohio; two granddaughters, Amy S. Baker of Tampa, Fla., and Maggie L Baker of Portland, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Sally Jewesak, Irene Bryer and Josephine Hendricks; and four brothers, Steve, Andy, Billy and Walter Bryer.

A private burial will be held in Jordan United Methodist Church cemetery, Jordan, SC.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of the arrangements.

MARY P. WASHINGTON

Mrs. Mary P. Washington, 85, widow of the late Booker T. Washington, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born May 11, 1919, in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Fannie Davis Scriven.

Mrs. Washington became a Christian in her early age and joined St. Mark Four Bridge Baptist Church in her youth. She later joined Pine Hill AME Church and remained a faithful member until her death.

Survivors include seven sons, Prince (Earlene) Washington of Seattle, Booker T. (Waltraud) Washington of Moore, Okla., Vernon (Peggy) Washington, Frank (Viola) Washington and Ernest Washington, all of Sumter, Robert Washington of Tacoma, Wash., James (Wilhelmena) Washington of Timmonsville; four daughters, Martha (Lewis) Richardson, Mattie (Walter) Boone, Lucille Addison, Barbara (Bernard) Monroe, all of Sumter; two sisters, Anna (Horace) Green of Sumter, Kate Billups of Philadelphia; four brothers, Theodore Scriven, Henry (Mamie Lee) Scriven, all of Sumter, Manning (Nora) Scriven and Carl (Regina) Scriven, all of Philadelphia; 33 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers and one son, Walter (Brenda) Washington.

Funeral services will be held today at 2:30 p.m. in Pine Hill AME Church with the Rev. John Platt Jr. officiating. Burial will take place in Bradford cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews and friends of the family and floral bearers will be nieces and friends of the family.

The family is receiving friends at her home, 34 Lakeside Drive.

Scriven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES P. MINCEY

James Preston Mincey, age 84, widower of the late Anna Bell Grainger Mincey, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Mariner Healthcare West in Sumter.

Mr. Mincey was born in Horry County a son of the late William Henry and Rose Ann Suggs Mincey. He was a retired truck driver with 28 years for the city of Sumter. He was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and member of the Brotherhood Men's Fellowship.

Surviving are two sons, Carlton Grainger and his wife, Betty, of Rock Hill and James Wallace Mincey and his wife, Jean, of Gaston; one daughter, Frances McInnis and her husband, Walter, of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Dee Mincey of Sumter; 13 grandchildren, Terry Grainger, Danny Grainger, Roger Grainger, Teresa Croft, Samantha Walker, Anita NeVille, Vanessa Bowen, Linda Squires, Pam Hoffman, Debbie Slitzer, Mike Mincey, Megan Mincey and Brad Mincey; 29 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a son, Kenny Mincey; a daughter, Linda Hyatt; three brothers, Jesse Mincey, Leslie Mincey and Winston Mincey; three sisters, Evelyn Simmons, Effie Grainger and Hattie Suggs.

Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Bullock Funeral Home with the Rev. Jackie Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumter cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons and the great-grandsons.

Visitation was held Sunday at the funeral home and will be other times at the residence on Santee Drive.

Memorials may be sent to the New Calvary Baptist Church, 38 Center St., Sumter, SC 29150.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter for the arrangements.

GRAHAM HILL

Graham Hill Sr., 94, husband of Phyllis Iobst Hill, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, he was the son of the late Henry Green Hill and the late Lucy Graham Hill.

Mr. Hill was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the board of trustees, Sunday school superintendent, Pastor-Parish Relations Committee and member of the Official Board. He was also a member of the Boyle Bible Class. He attended Sumter schools and Clemson College and retired as vice president of Korn Industries. Mr. Hill was a member of the Sumter Rotary Club, which honored him with a Paul Harris Fellowship and as Rotarian of the Year. He was a member of the Progressive Club and American Legion Post 15. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corps (now the Air Force) attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel retired.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; a son, Graham Hill Jr. and his wife, Rhonda, of Sumter; granddaughters, Elizabeth Pena, Jennifer Miller, Amanda Hill, Rebecca Penfield; and five great-grandsons of Louisiana; a granddaughter, Rachel Hill and step-grandsons, Jonathan McDonald and Jason McDonald of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Elizabeth "Bett" Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Jones officiating.

Burial will follow in Sumter cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Boyle Bible Class, Sumter Rotary Club, Progressive Club and Dr. Philip Brandt.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 226 W. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150, or a charity of one's choice.

EARLINE WILSON

MANNING -- Earline Hilton Wilson, 85, wife of Eugene Wilson, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Born July 10, 1919, in the Bloomville section of Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late August Hilton and Carrie Mathis Hilton.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 19 Ragin St. in Manning.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

LAWRENCE JUDSON

Mr. Lawrence Eugene Judson, 70, died July 31, 2004, at his home.

Mr. Judson was a retired carpet installation specialist. Born in Scranton, Pa., he was a son of the late Ord Leverne Judson and Catherine Harding Judson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Kambeitz Judson; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Judson, Doreen Judson; a son, Richard Judson, all of New York; stepdaughters, Sandra Mims of St. George and Linda Landon of Manning; a brother, Eugene Judson of Interlacken, Fla., and two sisters, Shirley White of Jacksonville, Texas, and Lois Barber of Geneve, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m Tuesday in Sumter cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

CAMILLIA McFADDEN

SILVER -- Dyson's Home for Funerals and Macedonia Fire Baptist Holiness Church, Silver, along with the Rev. Annie L. Riley, pastor, sorrowfully regrets to announce the passing of evangelist Camillia "Minnie" Tindal McFadden (Age 98 ) of Silver, who entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Windsor Manor Nursing Home, Silver.

Born in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Charles Monroe Tindal and Bertha Knight Tindal. She was the widow of Heyward McFadden.

The family is receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Ruth M. Davis, 6131 Summerton Highway, Silver community, Manning.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to Dyson's Home for Funerals, Summerton.

ROBERTHA SAMUEL

MANNING -- Robertha "Bertha" Harrison Samuel, 67, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Conn.

Born Aug. 25, 1936, in the Alcolu section of Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Harrison and Georgianna Durant Harrison.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1448 Lockwood Circle in Alcolu.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

MILDRED C. MEDLIN

Mildred C. Medlin, 74, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at a local nursing center.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Harvey Craft Sr. and the late Margaret Troublefield Craft Thomas.

She was a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church and was a graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing with an RN degree.

Survivors include two sons, Waldo Medlin Jr. and Andrew Medlin, both of Columbia; two daughters, Melinda Medlin of Columbia and Angela Medlin of Batesburg; three sisters, Claudia Jordan of Sumter, Barbara Myers of Virginia Beach, Va., and Margaret Everett of Fort Payne, Ala.; a brother, Harvey Craft Jr. of Lexington; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with Dr. James Chandler officiating.

Burial will be in Sumter cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jordan.

Memorials may be made to Santee Wateree Mental Health Center, 215 N. Magnolia St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.
