JAMES E. BETRAND

MANNING -- James Edward Betrand, 61, husband of Evelyn McFadden Betrand, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.

Born March 31, 1943, in the Jordan section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Joshua Edward Betrand and Estell Anderson Betrand.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 5154 J.W. Carter Road, Manning.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

JOSEPH A. TIMMONS

FLORENCE -- Joseph Adger Timmons, 66, of 3317 Woodburn Drive, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, after a courageous struggle with leukemia.

Born on Dec. 18, 1937, Joe is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shelby, of Florence. He was a son of the late Rufus and Mary Von Turner Timmons of Hannah. He is also survived by a brother, D.R. "Buster" (Gail) Timmons of Sumter; three nephews, Todd (Karen) Timmons of Sumter, Gregg (Vickie) Hyman of Johnsonville and Mike Hyman of Maryland; one niece, Kristen (Charlie) Brutsch of Sumter; 57 nieces and nephews; 70 great nieces and nephews; and 34 great-great nieces and nephews.

Joe had four namesakes, Merland Joseph Poston of Camden, Anthony Joseph Farmer of Pamplico, Todd Joseph Owens of Johnsonville and Patti Joe Cambagna of Princeton, N.J.

Known as "Uncle Joe" by many children and friends everywhere, he was a devoted family man and took pride in the love of his family.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Hyman Craven, who died in 1973.

He was a former employee of T&K Manufacturing Co. in Turbeville, proud servant of the Florence County Probate Court and a veteran of the United States Air Force.

His greatest accomplishments were those in service to the Lord. He was a member of Hillside Freewill Baptist Church in Florence, where he was currently the men's Sunday school class teacher. He served in every capacity over the years, as deacon, trustee, church secretary, youth director, former Sunday school superintendent and Easter Conference Sunday School superintendent for 23 years. He was a member of the men's fellowship group as well as the Merry at Heart Seniors Group. Joe also had an active role in the outreach program for the church when he spoke at Commander Nursing Home on a monthly basis.

A man of dignity and integrity, Joe was not a stranger to anyone. His kindness and generosity was shown to all who knew and loved him. His love of life will continue in the hearts of those dear to him.

Memorials may be sent to the Merry at Heart Seniors Group at Hillside Baptist Church, 2709 Fleetwood Drive, Florence, SC 29505.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hillside Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Millbranch cemetery in Johnsonville.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Dr. James C. Smith, Dr. Robert Stewart and Dr. Orachun Sitti.

LINDA C. HUMPHRIES

Linda Marie Cook Humphries, age 54, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence.

Ms. Humphries was born in Sumter, the daughter of Marie Johnson Cook Hicks and the late Joseph L. Cook. She attended Sumter Area Technical College. She worked for Sumter Dry Goods and Hughes Tire & Appliance Service and sold Avon. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother of Sumter are one daughter, Becki Humphries of Sumter; one sister, Gail Turner of Pinewood; one stepbrother, Robert Hicks of England; two stepsisters, Janice Deaton of Garden City and Gladys McLeod of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her father; her sister, Carol Devoll; and stepfather, Robert E. Hicks.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Bullock Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Clanton officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of her family.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Englewood, CO 80112.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

LOIS H. LEVINER

WINNSBORO -- Funeral services for Lois Hames Leviner will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Pope Funeral Home in Winnsboro, conducted by the Rev. James P. Blackwelder. Burial will be in Stephen Greene Memorial Garden.

Mrs. Leviner, 85, widow of John Lindsay Leviner, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004.

Born in Athens, Ga., April 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late W.R. and Malure Price Hames. She was a member of Stephen Greene Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Dr. John Lindsay Leviner Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C.; a daughter, Kathy L. Waters of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Myers Leviner of Turbeville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Billie Chup of Charleston, Mary Mullins of Dunwoodie, Ga., Althea Burroughs of Simpsonville and Betty Bailey and Bobbie Truesdale, both of Columbia; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Porter of Columbia; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Hames of Lexington.

She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Larry Leviner.

MARILEE G. VANSCOY

Marilee Gain Vanscoy, age 84, widow of the late Raymond Johnny Vanscoy, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Covenant Place.

She was born April 13, 1920, in West Union, W.Va.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for local arrangements.

NORA J. STUCKEY

BISHOPVILLE -- Nora J. Stuckey died at McCoy Memorial Nursing Center.

The family is receiving friends at the home of Mrs. Ada Lovely, 402 King Ave., Bishopville.

Funeral services will be announced by Square Deal Funeral Home of Bishopville.

REBECCA ISAAC

BISHOPVILLE -- Mrs. Rebecca Isaac died Aug. 6, 2004, at her residence.

The family will receive friends at 504 Woodward St., Bishopville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Boatwright Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

ROBERTHA H. SAMUEL

ALCOLU -- Robertha "Bertha" Harrison Samuel, 67, widow of Frank Holmes, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, Conn.

Born Aug. 25, 1936, in the Alcolu section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Harrison and Georgianna Durant Harrison.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Baptist Church, U.S. 301 North, Alcolu. The Rev. Dr. Cokley Richburg officiated, Evangelist Elizabeth Richburg presided, with assisting by the Rev. O'Donald Dingle and the Rev. Roosevelt McFadden.

Burial was in Harmony Presbyterian Church cemetery, Alcolu.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1448 Lockwood Circle, Alcolu.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of arrangements.

SHERIDAN WEBB Jr.

Sheridan Webb Jr., 77, husband of Nellie Johnson Webb, died Aug. 5, 2004, at Dorn Veterans Medical Center.

Born July 4, 1927, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Sheridan Webb Sr. and Mary Kershaw Webb.

The family will receive friends at his home, 5670 Shakemia Road, Dalzell.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

TIMOTHY A. BRAMLETT

Timothy Allen Bramlett, 43, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at a local nursing center.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of Edward Levern Bramlett and Nettie Mae Ardis Nobles. He was employed by Metokote Corp. and was of the Nazarene faith.

Survivors include his mother of Sumter; his father and stepmother, Jeanette Bramlett of Sumter; a son, Timothy Barry Bramlett; three half-brothers, Richard Brian Ferst of Sumter, Gregory Allen Ferst of Newport News, Va. and O'Neil Robinson of Darlington; and two half-sisters, Faye Williamson of Darlington and Teresa Ann Pierson of Raleigh, N.C.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Barry Bramlett, and a sister, Cynthia Bramlett.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Bethany Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. T.W. Mitchell and the Rev. James Copeland officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

TYANNA MILLER

Infant girl Tyanna Miller, daughter of Shanda Miller and granddaughter of Juanita Miller, passed on Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 3, 2004, in Sumter.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bradford cemetery in Sumter with the Rev. Leroy T. James officiating.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

WISDOM D. WILLIS III

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mr. Wisdom DeLorme Willis III, 30 years of age, departed this life on July 31, 2004, in Charlotte, N.C., after a motorcycle accident.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Sumter, with Henry Jackson McGill officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker cemetery, Sumter.

Mr. Willis was born on Nov. 14, 1973, in Sumter. He attended the public schools of Sumter, graduating from Northwestern High School, Rock Hill. He was employed as business manager for the Foundation for Youth Entrepreneurs and Educators of Charlotte, N.C. He was also a barber.

He was formerly married to Tina Lee. To this union three daughters were born.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. Wisdom D. White Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Willis; two uncles, Wisdom D. White Jr. and Henry Lee White.

Survivors include his parents, Joseph and Beverly Willis; three daughters, Saquanta, Tashauna and WaLeeka Willis; two sons, Wisdom D. Willis IV and A armani J. Willis; a stepson, Quatavis Lee; two brothers, Tony J. Willis of Sumter and Joseph Willis Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Valarie Johnson of Detroit, Mich.; four very devoted cousins, Nakia Brialsssford, Marcus, Muron and Tanisher; one mother-in-law, Earnestine Adams; two uncles; four aunts; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; special and devoted friends, the Richard Weeks family; a very devoted aunt, Felice Paris; along with many other cousins and friends.

Jackson & McGill Funeral Service of Marion is in charge of arrangements.
