ISIAH "BAY" GOODMAN

OLANTA -- Isiah "Bay" Goodman, 57, died Aug. 8, 2004, after a sudden illness at his residence, 5245 Narrow Pave Road. He was the husband of Macy "Carrie" Green Goodman.

He was born March 1, 1947, in the Olanta section of Sumter County, a son of the late Cornelius Goodman Sr. and Carrie Burgess Goodman. A brother and sister preceded him in death, Cornelius Goodman Jr. and Lula Mae Hardy.

Survivors are his wife, Macy "Carrie" Goodman of the home; one son, Ezell Goodman of the home; four daughters, Carolyn (Jasper) Epps of Olanta, Stacey Goodman and Gloriann Goodman, both of the home, and Paulette Goodman of Beaufort; one sister, Sylvia "Juanita" Goodman of Olanta; two brothers, Willie Henry (Roxanne) of Sumter and Tommy (Emma) Goodman of Timmonsville; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date from St. John United Methodist Church, Narrow Pave Road in Lynchburg. Burial will be in St. John Church cemetery.

Services have been entrusted to Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home in Lake City.

DON L. BEASLEY

Don L. Beasley, 79, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at a local nursing center.

Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Elton D. Beasley Sr. and the late Verlie Skipper Beasley.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he received a Letter of Commendation for outstanding duty during enemy attacks and he was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include two sons, Danny K. Beasley and his wife, Mary, of Lexington and Steven Beasley of West Columbia: one daughter, Kathy B. West and her husband, Roy Jr., of Cassatt; one sister, Gladys Allsbrook and her husband, Alfred, of Sumter; four half-brothers, Dolton Beasley and Jack Beasley, both of Bishopville, David Beasley of Sumter and Charles Beasley and his wife, Jackie, of St. Matthews; three half-sisters, Judy Lindak and her husband, John, of Santee, Alice Russell and her husband, Ed, of Sumter and Ann Hemingway and her husband, Mac, of Manning; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Beasley of Bishopville; three grandsons, Travis Beasley and Todd West, both of Lexington, and Jody Beasley of Pelion; one granddaughter, Tammy W. Burns of Columbia; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elton Beasley Jr., and a half-brother, Edward Beasley.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Hancock officiating.

Burial, with full military honors, will be in Piedmont cemetery in Bishopville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of his sister, Gladys Alsbrook, 2442 White's Mill Road, Sumter.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

PAUL MARTIN HOLLADAY

MANNING -- Paul Martin Holladay, 34, husband of Melissa Friel Holladay, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at his home in Manning.

Born Jan. 12, 1970, in Manning, he was a son of Paul James and Ellen Alsbrooks Holladay. He was a welder and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving besides his wife of Manning and parents of Manning are a daughter, Kayla B. Holladay and a son, D.J. Holladay of the home; a sister, Amanda H. Wall and husband, Jay, of Manning; a brother, John E. Holladay of Manning; maternal grandmother, Regina Alsbrooks of Inman; and maternal grandfather, Carliss Alsbrooks of Inman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Free Will Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 229, Turbeville, SC 29162.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

BERDIE SCOTT

EAST ORANGE, N.J. -- Mrs. Berdie Mae Dickey Scott died on Friday in a local hospital in East Orange, N.J., after an illness.

Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Julious Dickey Sr. and Janie Gamble Dickey.

Services are incomplete and will be announced later by Jefferson Funeral Home in Lynchburg.

DONNA TURNER

NINETY SIX -- Donna Arlene Barber Turner, 73, of 95 Kitson St., wife of C.Z. Turner, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Seattle, she was a daughter of Richard William and Edith Evelyn Walker Barber.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at South Greenwood Assembly of God with the Rev. Carroll Harrison officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home

NORA JANE STUCKEY

BISHOPVILLE -- Mrs. Nora Jane Stuckey died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at McCoy Memorial Nursing Center.

Born in Lee County on Nov. 15, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Jackson White and Amelia Moses White. She attended the public schools of Lee County. She lived many years in Philadelphia and New York, then returned to Lee County, where she spent her last years.

Surviving are a son, Grover Stuckey and his wife, Pearline, of Greenville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. John AME Church with the Rev. Sammie Gary, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. John cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home of Mr. Ada Lovely, 402 King Ave.

Square Deal Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MILES DAWSON Jr.

COLUMBIA -- Services for Mr. Miles "Jack" Dawson Jr., 85, will be held at noon Tuesday (viewing at 11 a.m.) in Hopewell Baptist Church, Dalzell, with burial in the church's cemetery.

Surviving are his brothers, Lincoln and Bennie Dawson; sisters, Bessie Olden and Marilee Burkett; and niece, Ada Dawson.

Leevy's Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

MARGIE M. KING

BISHOPVILLE -- Funeral services for Margie M. King, 75, who died Aug. 7, will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church. The Revs. Charles Miller and Jason Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Baptist Church cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Buck Watson, 431 Cedar Creek Road.

Mrs. King was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Willie A. and Evie Hatfield Watson. She was retired from DuPont and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are a brother and his wife, Phil (Buck) and Patsy Watson of Bishopville; sisters-in-law, Rita and Martha Watson of Bishopville and Betty Alexander of Sumter; stepchildren, Marilyn Hopkins of Columbia, Diane and Robin Smith of Ridgeway, Jean Darity of Camden and Robert F. (Bob) King II of Camden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Medlin and Robert F. King Sr.; brothers, Jessie (Jay) Watson and Thornwell E. Watson Sr.; and a sister, Iva Alexander.

Memorials may be made to the Margie King Memorial Fund, Calvary Baptist Church, c/o Kay Arrants, 539 Cedar Creek Road, Bishopville, SC 29010.

Norton Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

FRANK ROGERS

BISHOPVILLE -- Mr. Frank Rogers died on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

He was born Dec. 8, 1954, to Ms. Ollie Mae Wilson of Mayesville.

He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, six brothers, two sisters, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Boatwright Funeral Home Chapel, 113 Harlem St., Bishopville.

Boatwright Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

DIANE JOHNSON

ATLANTA -- Diane Johnson, 49, died Aug. 9, 2004, at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta.

Born Dec. 23, 1954, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Heyward Johnson Sr.and Eartha Lee Thompson Johnson.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

SARAH C. McBRIDE

Dyson's Home for Funerals and Historic Liberty Hill AME Church, Summerton, along with the Rev. M.J. Capers, pastor, announce funeral services for the late Mrs. Sarah Canty McBride will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Historic Liberty Hill AME Church, Summerton. The Rev. Melvin J. Capers, pastor, will be officiating, assisted by the Revs. Roosevelt Mitchell, John E. Canty, E.L. Delaine, Williene Creque and Tom Newboult. Final resting place will be the church cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah Canty McBride, age 88, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Columbia.

Born in Summerton, on April 10, 1916, in Summerton, to the late James E. Canty and Susan A. Martin Canty. She was the widow of Robert E. McBride. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County. She accepted Christ as her Lord and savior at an early age and joined Friendship AME Church, Silver. In 1947, Sarah joined Liberty Hill AME Church, Summerton, where she sang on the senior choir for 30 years and worked on the Stewardess Board. She was a class leader for 38 years and a member of the Missionary Board for 30 years. She worked on many other organizations until her health failed. She was employed as a cook with Clarendon School District 1 for 32 years.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Carrie, Bell, Mary and Anna; and three brothers, Edward, Robert Lee and Willie.

She leaves to grow from her memories a loving daughter, Rosena McBride Johnson of Columbia; a brother, John (Mary) Canty of Summerton; a grandson, Tonda McBride of Columbia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at her home, 1056 Hill St., Summerton.

Arrangements are entrusted to Dyson's Home for Funerals of Summerton.

EUGENE ALLEN

Eugene Allen, husband of Sandra Barber Allen, died Aug. 9, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 29, 1964, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Walvin Allen Sr. and Mary Sue Wright Allen.

The family will receive friends at 1061 Robinhood Ave., Sumter.

Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter.
