BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Katie Annie Frances "Sweet" Brunson, 106, died Aug. 8, 2004, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Born July 28, 1898, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Hickman and Diana McQuilla Hickman.

Viewing will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday with funeral service at 11 a.m. from the Brown Memorial Baptist Church, 484 Washington Ave. (corner of Gates Avenue), Brooklyn. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery, Linden, N.J.

GLADYS BETHEA-SIMON

MANNING -- Gladys Bethea-Simon, 66, of 21st Frist Ave., Manning, widow of Austin Simon, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 27, 1937, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late George Wade Sr. and Lovette Bethea.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Freddie and Diana Bethea, Jerro Road, Goodwill community of Manning.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

JAMES A. GREEN Sr.

LAKE CITY -- Mr. James Abram "Professor" Green Sr., 93, widower of Gretrude P. Green, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Carolinas Hospital System, Florence.

He was born May 13, 1911, in Georgetown County.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 214 Floyd Ave., Lake City, SC 29560.

Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home of Lake City.

JONATHAN K. BELL

GREENVILLE -- Jonathan Keith Bell, 25, died Aug. 10, 2004, in Greenville.

Born Jan. 11, 1979, in Sumter, he was a son of John Henry and Gwendolyn White Bell.

The family will receive friends at the home of his grandmother, Belle D. White, 521 Love St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

JOSEPH A. SHOCKETT

Joseph Authur Shockett, age 54, husband of Linda Lee Russell Shockett, died on Aug. 10, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Worcester, Mass., a son of Authur Shockett and Doris McCarthy Shockett. He was employed by Builders First Source. He was a devoted husband, son and brother, and loved to play golf. He attended St. Anne's Catholic Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are one sister, Kathleen Forrester of Webster, Mass.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Webster, Mass., with Father Joseph Marcotte officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's cemetery in Webster, Mass.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at Majercik Funeral Home in Webster, Mass.

Memorials may be made to The Clarendon Memorial Hospital, P.O. Box 550, Manning, SC 29102-0550, or to St. Louis Catholic Church, 15 Lake St., Webster, MA 01570.

CURTIS McFADDEN

LAKE CITY -- Curtis McFadden, age 57, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, after a sudden illness.

The family will receive friends at the home of his wife, Geneva Burgess McFadden, 233 Smith St., Lake City.

Services have been entrusted to Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home of Lake City.

EDITH C. TAYLOR

GRAY COURT -- Edith Lenora Cogdill Taylor, 74, wife of Jack Howard Taylor, of 296 Cook Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at her home.

Born in Laurens, she was a daughter of the late William "Bill" and Nellie Bible Cogdill. She was a homemaker and a member of Warrior Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Cathy R. McMahan and husband, Rodger, of Laurens, Tracie Taylor Langston and husband, Tim, of Gray Court and Kim Taylor Wilkie of Gaffney; a son, Bob Rearden and wife, Barbara, of Sumter; two brothers, Tim Cogdill of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mike Cogdill of Ware Shoals; six sisters, Margie King of Ware Shoals, Allene Rocci of California, Imogene Cox and Ann Clark, both of Laurens, and Ruth Cox and Trudy Wilson, both of Mountville; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Gregory Rooks Taylor, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Warrior Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Tom Faucette and John T. Lee Jr. with burial in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends there today after the service.

Memorials may be made to Warrior Creek Baptist Church, 139 Cumlaude Way, Gray Court, SC 29645.

Kennedy Mortuary, Laurens, is in charge of arrangements.

ELIZABETH BLACK

SUMMERTON -- Elizabeth Black, 75, widow of the late Noah Black, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Providence Hospital, Columbia.

Born March 19, 1929, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Richburg and the late Rosa Conyers Richburg.

The family will receive friends at the home, 16 Third St., Summerton.

Services will be announced by King Funeral Home of Summerton.

JACK EARLE

ANDERSON -- Samuel Hammond "Jack" Earle, 89, formerly of Evans Street, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Covenant Place, Sumter.

Born April 19, 1915, in Starr, he was a retired employee of Duke Power Co. with 40 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Belle Boggs Earle; two sons, Samuel H. Earle Jr. of New York and Joseph E. Earle and his wife, Jackie Earle, of Princeton, N.J.; one daughter, Jackie E. Davis and her husband, Joe B. Davis Jr., of Sumter; two grandchildren, Tiffany Earle Bryan and her husband, Matt Bryan, of Greenville and Joe B. Davis III of Sumter; three great-grandchildren, Everett Bryan, Belle Bryan and Madeline Bryan; one sister, Anne E. "Toppy" Josey of Dothan, Ala.

He was the son of the late Elias J. and Carrie Belle Baker Earle and was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Earle Brown, and a brother, Elias J. Earle Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jack Anderson.

Private burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday at the downtown chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Anderson County Museum, 202 E. Greenville St., Anderson, SC 29621.

Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

MARY SHOOLBRED

Mary Chesnut Britton Shoolbred, age 70, born May 19, 1934, of Red Oak Road, Greenville, died in Greenville, on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004.

Before moving to Greenville, she lived in Spartanburg for 45 years and was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent and St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Shoolbred was also a member of the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century and of The National Society of Magna Charta Dames and Barons. She attended Winthrop College and the University of South Carolina. She worked for Clemson College Pontiac Experimental Station and for Shaw Air Force Base. Since moving to Greenville in 2002, she and her husband have belonged to St. Peter's Episcopal Church and then Holy Trinity Anglican Church.

A native of Sumter, she was the wife of Augustus Waite Shoolbred Jr. and daughter of the late Benjamin Lee Britton and Mary Chesnut Phillips Britton.

Mrs. Shoolbred was predeceased by her first husband, the late Richard Fowler Shoolbred Sr.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Mary Chesnut Shoolbred Palmer and her husband, Dr. John J. Palmer, of Greenville and Frances Elizabeth Shoolbred Bouknight and her husband, Richard Wayne Bouknight Sr., of Columbia; and her son, Richard Fowler Shoolbred Jr. and his wife, Lori Kelly Shoolbred, of Greenville. She is also survived by her beloved stepchildren which she claimed the special privilege of raising, William Augustus Shoolbred and his wife, Erika Augthun Shoolbred, of Spartanburg, Margaret Louise Shoolbred of West Columbia, and Mary Ann Shoolbred Blackwell and her husband, Rick Blackwell, of Travelers Rest. Also surviving are her brother, Dr. J.J. Britton and his wife, Connie Beck Britton, of Sumter; and her nieces and nephew, Beth Britton Stuckey of Charleston, Babs Britton Wilson of Woodruff, Becky Britton Noyes of Sumter, and Dr. John Britton Jr. of Charleston. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Melissa and Joseph Palmer, Richard and Beth Bouknight, Jill and Reed Shoolbred, Michael, Adam and Philip Shoolbred, and Maggie and Alice Blackwell.

The family will receive friends at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, located at 2075 E. Main St. in Spartanburg, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 400 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, and will be conducted by the very Rev. Fred Valentine, the Rev. Bob Pettit and the Rev. George N. Gray Jr.

The committal service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be her five grandsons and her grandnephew, Charles Noyes of Sumter.

Immediately following the committal service, the family will be at the home of Bill and Erika Shoolbred, 492 Webber Road, Spartanburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 400 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307; to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 717 Buncombe St., Greenville, SC 29601; or to a charity of one's choice.

Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

ISIAH GOODMAN

OLANTA -- Isiah "Bay" Goodman, 57, died Aug. 8, 2004, at his residence, 5245 Narrow Paved Road, Olanta, after a sudden illness. He was the husband of Macy "Carrie" Green Goodman.

He was born March 1, 1947, in the Olanta section of Sumter County, a son of the late Cornelius Goodman Sr. and Carrie Burgess Goodman.

A brother and sister preceded him in death, Cornelius Goodman Jr. and Lula Mae Hardy.

He was a retired employee of C.L. Benton and Sons in Myrtle Beach. He received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Macy "Carrie" Goodman of the home; one son, Ezell Goodman of the home; four daughters, Carolyn (Jasper) Epps of Olanta, Stacey Goodman and Gloriann Goodman, both of the home, and Paulette Goodman of Beaufort; one sister, Sylvia "Juanita" Goodman of Olanta; two brothers, Will Henry (Roxanne) of Sumter and Tommy (Emma) Goodman of Timmonsville; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today from St. John United Methodist Church, Narrow Paved Road, Lynchburg. Burial will be in St. John Church cemetery. The Rev. John C. Barr will officiate.

Services have been entrusted to Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home in Lake City.
