Ollie Ouzts Hiller, 86, of Newberry, widow of Walter L. Hiller, died Thursday, April, 26, 2007 at White Oak Manor
Mrs. Hiller was born in Edgefield, a daughter of the late J. Monroe and Janie O. Ouzts. She was a retired employee of Newberry Mills and was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church
She is survived by a son Danny (Becky) L. Hiller of Pensacola, FL; two grandchildren, Jerry L. Hiller of Hattiesburg, MS and Lisa (Norman) Doxford of Tallahassee; two great grandchildren, Rachel Doxford and Norman J. Doxford and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five sisters, Belle Ouzts, Ellen Bedenbaugh, Mary Chappell, Macie Brown, and Anna Hamilton and two brothers, Mac Ouzts and Bennie Ouzts.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Kasting. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church, 1307 Drayton St., Newberry, SC 29108

Linda Werts Williams
April 22, 2007

Linda Werts Williams, 59, of 2010 Smith Rd., Newberry, wife of Raymond O. Williams, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Newberry, a daughter of Annie Crouch Werts and the late Thomas F. Werts. She retired from Winn Dixie Stores after 38 years and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of Newberry; her mother of Silverstreet; her step-son, Michael T. Williams of Newberry; a brother, Thomas Werts of Silverstreet; a niece; a nephew; and two special friends, Sandra Roton and Debbie Long. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Francis Werts Pitts.
Funeral services were will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Robert McCollum. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family was at the residence, 2010 Smith Road, Newberry.
Memorials may be made to Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church, 1307 Drayton St., Newberry SC 29108 or to the American Cancer Society c/o Helen Beebe, 181 Tailers Trail, Leesvile, SC 29070.

Dorothy Beaver Henderson
April 20, 2007

Dorothy Beaver Henderson, 84, devoted homemaker and widow of Haywood Hardy Henderson, died April 20, 2007 at Allen Morgan Health Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
Mrs. Henderson, who lived most of her married life in South Carolina, is survived by her three children, Lyn Henderson Fabacher of New Orleans, LA., Haywood Hardy Henderson, Jr. of Memphis, and Cindy Henderson McGhee of Charlotte, N.C., her seven grandchildren, Whitney Henderson Bricken, Lawton Elizabeth Fabacher, Dorothy Henderson Burke, Caroline Milling Fabacher, Anne Haywood McGhee, Grace Milling Henderson, and William Trewhitt McGhee IV and her two great grandchildren, Patrick Thomas Burke, Jr. and Grace Trowbridge Bricken, her brother William Daniel Beaver of Lakeland, Florida and her sisters Hazel Beaver Richmond and Wanda Beaver Fee of Memphis.
A memorial service was held on Sunday at Trezevant Manor Chapel in Memphis. The interment services were 2:00 P.M. Friday in the Henderson Graveyard in Newberry County, South Carolina.

Wallace Donald “Don” Jones
April 8, 2007

Wallace Donald “Don” Jones, 70, of 1806 Rivers St., Newberry, died Sunday, April 8, 2007 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on July 31, 1936 in Newberry, a son of the late Walter D. and Beulah Shealy Jones. He was a Korean War Army veteran, a retired employee of the Kendall Co., Mollohon Plant and was a member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church.
He is survived by five brothers, James D. Jones, and Morris L. Jones both of Newberry, Hugh Jones of Little Mountain, Gordon Jones of Chapin, and Randall Jones of Leesville. He was predeceased by a brother Mac Jones.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 2:30 PM Wednesday at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Kathy Harris.
The family did receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Summer Memorial Lutheran Church Social Hall.

Hugh H. “Buck” Connelly
April 7, 2007

Hugh H. “Buck” Connelly, 84, of 2625 Deloache Ave., Newberry, died Saturday, April 7, 2007 at his residence.
Mr. Connelly was born in Newberry, a son of the late G. Hugh and Martha “Mattie” Mann Connelly. He retired from the City of Newberry after 34 years of service. He was the Superintendent of Utilities upon his retirement.
He was a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church and member and former President of the Neil Truesdall Sunday School Class; was Past President of the Men of the S.C. Presbytery; Life Time member and Past President of the Southeastern Water Works Association (with over 50 years); Volunteer member of the City of Newberry Fire Department (with over 20 years active service and was elected to Honorary Membership) where he served as Past President and retired as Captain; Charter member of the Newberry Moose Lodge #27; former member of the Newberry Exchange Club where he served as Vice Chairman; Life Member and Past Worshipful Master of Amity Masonic Lodge #87 A.F.M.; member of Newberry York Rite Bodies; member of Hejaz Temple where he served as Potentates Aide; and was a Charter member, Past President, and Life member of the S.C. Water and Sewer Association.
He was appointed by the Governor of S.C. to serve on the Pollution Control Authority; was former Chairman of the Safety Committee for the S.E. Section of AWWA; and was Engineer and Public Works Officer for the Newberry County Civil Defense.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Rushton Connelly of Newberry; a daughter, Nancy Connelly Holcombe of Greenville; a son, Arthur Roland (Jeanne Wallace) Connelly of Greenville; a sister, Thelma (John Andrew) Shaw of Saluda; a brother, George T. “Tommy” (Frances) Connelly of Newberry; and two granddaughters, Sarah Inez “Salli” Holcombe and Elizabeth Bryan Connelly. He was predeceased by a sister, Verdie Ernestine “Polly” Green and a brother, Forest William Connelly.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 PM Tuesday at the Aveleigh Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Mitch Van Metre. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence,2625 Deloache Ave., Newberry.
Memorials may be made to Aveleigh Presbyterian Church Playground Fund, 1211 Calhoun St., Newberry SC 29108.
Active pallbearers were Terry Sheaver, Jim Parks, Mark Banister, Doyle “Sonny” Gallman, Billy Gallman, George Shaw, Jimmy Broderick, Lamar Storey, and Jamie Johnson..

Fay Morgan Johnson, wife of James P. Johnson, of 511 Church Street, Laurens, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 in Laurens County Hospital in Clinton.
She was born in Greenville County and was a daughter of the late Luther Addison and Ora Bell Wilson Morgan. She graduated from Bush River High School in 1940, was formerly employed with Joanna Mills and Whitten Center and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener. She was thrice married. She was married first to the late William Earl Rogers and is survived by their children; Eunice R. (Maurice) Wilkinson of Simpsonville, W. Everett (Jean) Rogers of Clinton; Linda R. (Ronnie) Albritton of Atmore, AL, and Judy R. (Randy) Nobles of Prosperity; eleven grandchildren, Tim (Debbie) Rogers, Danny (Kathy) Rogers, LTC Kenneth (Tonya) Wilkinson, Randy (Lisa) Albritton, Stephen (Wendy) Wilkinson, Dustin (Lisa) Rogers, Leigh Ann (Mark) Harrell, Becky Wilkinson, Jarad Nobles, Nathan Nobles and Katie Rogers; and ten great-grandchildren. She was married second to the late Benjamin F. Hall and is survived by his children, Judy H. Walker, Rachel H. (Rick) Nelson, Janice H. (Mike) Moates, Phoebe H. (Ricky) Rumfelt; and daughter-in-law, Roberta Hall all of Laurens; five grandchildren, Tracey ((David) Finley, Jason (Erin) Moates, Kane Hall, Daniel Rumfelt and Matthew Rumfelt; and three great-grandchildren. She was married third to James P. Johnson and is survived by his daughter-in-law, Judy Johnson of Ballentine; grandsons, Michael (Denise) Johnson, Kevin (Beth) Johnson; and a great-granddaughter. She is survived by three sisters, Madge M. Blackwell of Bonds Cross Roads, Lola M. Bates of Newberry and Georgia M. Outley of St. Augustine, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by step-sons, Mark Hall and Jimmy Johnson; sisters, Ola M. Murrah, Emily M. LaGrone, Jessie M. Motes, and Alice M. Davenport; brothers, Joe Morgan, Fred Morgan, Frank Morgan, Charlie Morgan and Jack Morgan.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 1st at 3:00 p.m. in the Fairview Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Burnshausen with interment in Pinelawn Memory Gardens in Clinton. The family did receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. before the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. The family was at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Everett Rogers, 4042 Greenwood Hwy., Clinton, SC Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. for friends and family visitation.
Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 4419 Indian Creek Road, Kinards, SC 29355. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Fairview Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grayfuneralhome.com

E. Lewis Price, Sr.
May 27, 2007

E. Lewis Price, Sr., 84, formerly of 1228 Jones St., Newberry, died Sunday, May 27, 2007 at the J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Mr. Price was born on Nov. 6, 1922 in Newberry, a son of the late Lester F. and Beulah Dennis Price. He was an Army veteran of WW II, serving 33 months overseas with the 40th Division in the 164th and 222 Field Artillery Battalion in the South Pacific Guadalcanal, New Britain and Luzon, Panay and Los Negrous Invasions. After the war, he was sent to Korea before being released with the Army Occupational Troops. He retired from the Kendall Co., Mollohon Plant as Parts manager after 36 years. And he retired from Newberry County as the Delinquent Tax Collector.
He was a member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church where he was a former congregation council member and church treasurer. He was a former member of Moose Lodge #2211, American Legion Post #24, and was a Life member of DAV Post # 60.
He is survived by his son, Lewis “Lewie” Price, Jr. and two grandchildren, Susannah Price and Brittany Price, all of Newberry and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred “Millie” Boozer Price; three brothers, Irby Price, Jason Price, and Grady Price; a nephew and a niece.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Summer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Kathy Harris. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Visitation was from 5:30 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Summer Memorial Lutheran Church 1609 Milligan St., Newberry SC 29108.

Dennis R. Shumate, 62, of 12 Polo Ridge Circle, Columbia, died Friday, May 18, 2007 in Richland Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Shumate was born in Beckley, West Virginia, a son of the late Vince L. and Imogene Acord Shumate. He attended Marshall University and West Virginia University and was a US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Era.
Mr. Shumate was owner of Shumate Appraisal Services, Inc. He was a member of Incarnation Lutheran Church and a member of the George Rogers Foundation Board.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, he is survived by his wife Lou Ringer Shumate; a daughter, Jennifer Shumate of Georgia; a son, Joshua D. Shumate of Columbia; two step-sons, Robert E. Morgan and Brian D. Morgan both of Columbia; two brothers, James Vincent Shumate of Surprise, AZ and Ronald Dean Shumate of Austin, TX; three grandchildren, Tyler Shumate, Ethan Shumate, and Michelle Shumate; godchildren, Christopher and AnnaMarie Ringer; a great niece, Carter Coggins; and his beloved dog, Buddy.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Monday at Incarnation Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. James Parham, Bishop David Donges, and the Rev. Phillip Coggins. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at the Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine St. The family was at the residence, 12 Polo Ridge Circle.
