EARNEST DENNIS

Earnest Dennis, 60, died Sept. 30, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia.

Born July 29, 1944, in Sumter County, he was a son of Fannie Sanders Dennis and the late Willie Dennis. Earnest accepted Jesus as his savior at an early age and became a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He attended the public schools of Sumter County.

Survivors include two daughters, Shawanda (Larry) Shannon and Carla (Sammie) Green of Sumter; three brothers, Frank (Joann) Dennis of Rembert, Fredrick (Mary) Dennis of Camden and Leroy (Alice) Herriott of Manhattan, N.Y.; six sisters, Evelyn Sanders of Rembert, Ruth Wilder of Brooklyn, N.Y., Betty Butler of Queens, N.Y., Mamie (Johnny) Johnson of Camden, Barbara Dennis of Rembert and Steen M. Sanders of Wilmington, Del.; his grandmother, Louise Sanders of Rembert; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Otha Willie Dennis and Willie Dennis Jr.; and one sister, Julia Mae Dennis.

The remains will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday from Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, U.S. 521 North, Rembert, with the Rev. Anthony Taylor, pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Willie Dennis, the Rev. Dr. Charles H. Davis and the Rev. Ray A. Sanders. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Churchyard cemetery, Rembert.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Floral bearers will be family and friends.

The procession will leave at 3:30 p.m. from the home of his mother, Fannie Sanders Dennis, 3910 Spencer Road, Rembert.

ROBERT E. BARNHART Jr.

Robert "Bob" Emmons Barnhart Jr., age 67, beloved husband of 47 years to Christine Warr Barnhart, died on Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born in LaPorte, Ind., a son of the late Robert Emmons and Dolores Luther Barnhart. He served in the U.S. Air Force and later retired from Sifco Industries after 28 years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason, loved the Smoky Mountains and attended Laurel Fork Presbyterian Church in Laurel Springs, N.C. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather (Poppy).

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Christy B. Gardner and her husband, Lenn, of Alcolu; one special precious granddaughter, Katherine Ann Gardner of Alcolu; one brother, Lynn Barnhart and his wife, Minerva, of New Richmond, Wis.; two sisters, Kay Parrish and her husband, Bruce, of Prior Lake, Minn., and Sally Langenfeld and her husband, George, of Bethel, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Lois Coster and her husband, James, of Travelers Rest; two brothers-in-law, John Warr and his wife, Joline, of Sumter and Claude Warr and his wife, Mayes, of Gable; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kirk Carlisle and the Rev. Emily Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Sumter cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Billy Clowney, Dr. Dale Cannon and Laverne Arrants.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bullock Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to The Thornwell House, 302 S. Broad St., P.O. Box 60, Clinton, SC 29325.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

FRANCES M. BUIE

TIMMONSVILLE -- Frances Morris Buie, 58, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, in a local hospital after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home with interment following in Byrd cemetery.

Mrs. Buie was born in Florence County, the daughter of the late Charles Woodrow and Annie Lee Bell Morris. She attended Timmonsville schools. Mrs. Buie was the wife of Raeford Buie and a homemaker. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother.

Surviving are her husband of the home; two sons, Timothy Rae (Maria) Buie and Ritchie Buie of Florence; one brother, Charles Morris (Anne) of Oregon; one sister, Bobbie Mitchell of Sumter; and two granddaughters, Abigail and Grace Buie.

Mrs. Buie was predeceased by three sisters, Priscilla Ham, Walta Mae Hopkins and Jannie Alexander.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, 4210 W. Palmetto St., Florence.

The family will receive family and friends at the home of Tim and Maria Buie, 939 S. Swan Circle, Florence.

Memorials may be made to the McLeod Diabetes Center, c/o McLeod Foundation, P.O. Box 100551, Florence, SC 29501.

EDNA L. WILLIAMSON

Edna L. Williamson, 90, widow of Lewis Williamson, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter.

ROSA LEE S. BURRIS

BISHOPVILLE -- Ms. Rosa Lee "Dee" Stuckey Burris, 55, departed this life on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.

Born Aug. 27, 1949, in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Stuckey Sr. and Annie Belle Stuckey Lewis and the stepdaughter of Fate Lewis. Ms. Burris attended the public schools of Lee County. She was a loyal employee of Lee County Department of Social Services and Personal Care of Sumter. She was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church, where she sang on the senior choir.

Ms. Burris leaves to cherish her memories four sons, John Anthony Burris of Bishopville, DeAngelo (Jennifer) Burris of Dalzell, Tomeakio Lashone Burris and Fredderick Burris, both of the home; two brothers, Thomas (Joanne) Stuckey of Sumter and Lawrence (Willie Mae) Stuckey Jr. of Bishopville; three sisters, Janie S. Williams of Newark, N.J., Perthenthia (Harmon) Jenkins of Dalzell and Janette Mickens of Sumter; one special sister, Mamie (Hosie) Hickmon; three stepbrothers; six stepsisters; 14 grandchildren; three aunts, Lola Nelson and Elouise Myers, both of Bishopville, and May Ethel Stuckey of Camden; one special nephew, Minister Rickey Stuckey; a special friend, Columbus Boone Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving mother and father; two sisters, Wilhemenia Stuckey Shaw and Lucille Stuckey McDaniel; and one brother, John Lee Stuckey.

Visitations will be held 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at New Haven United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charlie Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Perthenthia and Harmon Jenkins, 153 Comfort Lane, Dalzell.

Wilson's Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St., Bishopville, is in charge of arrangements.

MARTHA A. COTE

Mrs. Martha A. Cote, 80, of Micco, Fla., died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004.

Born in Columbia, Mrs. Cote was a former Sumter resident prior to her move to Micco six years ago. Mrs. Cote was a retired telephone operator and enjoyed sewing, reading and traveling.

Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Henry Cote of Micco, Fla.; two daughters, Sheree Povich of Port. St. Lucie, Fla., and Sheila Cote of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Blanche Amerson of Sumter; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at the Yates Funeral Home Chapel in Ft. Pierce, Fla.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at Yates Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, is in charge of the local arrangements.

WILLIE ADDISON

BISHOPVILLE -- Willie "Crook" Addison died Sept. 30, 2004, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Bishopville.

Boatwright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FRANCIS M. STANFIELD

Francis Marion Stanfield, 65, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter.

ALBERTA L. YARBOROUGH

FLORENCE -- Alberta Loraine Yarborough, 80, of 818 S. Parker Drive, Apt. A, Florence, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Miss Yarborough was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Wilson and Dora Blaton Yarborough. She was a member of the Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She was a registered nurse, having worked with the Mullins Hospital and having done private duty nursing for a number of years. She retired after 30 years of service with the Public Health Department in Dillon County. She was the recipient of several awards for her efforts on behalf of public health.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are two sisters, Ila Wise of Florence and Merris (Robert) Parker of Waxhaw, N.C.; two brothers, James (Mary Ann) Yarborough of Sumter and Derrell (Ottie) Yarborough of West Columbia; a sister-in-law, Ruth Yarborough of Effingham; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethany Free Will Baptist Church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence.

The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 7001 Friendfield Road, Effingham, SC 29541.

She was a wonderful lady with a very giving heart. She was always willing to help family and friends and was always looking for a way to help others. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

PERNNISE C. GIPSON

SUMMERTON -- Pernnise Caldwell Gipson, 98, widow of Willie Gipson, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Gipson was born to Robert Caldwell and Louvicia Heath Thrower Caldwell on June 19, 1906, in the St. Paul community of Summerton. She was educated in Clarendon County. Early in life, she accepted Christ as her personal savior and was a faithful member of Historical Liberty Hill AME Church, Summerton, where her duties never seemed a load. She was a member of the Missionary Board and a stewardess. Mrs. Gipson was married to the late Willie Gipson. This union was blessed with six children.

Mrs. Gipson's loving memories will be cherished by her daughters, Mae Gipson of Philadelphia, Bertha Gipson, Eartha Richardson and Carrie Gipson of Chester, Pa.; a granddaughter, Charlene Gipson reared in the home; eight other grandchildren, Melvin Gipson, James Gipson, Leonard Gipson, Lorriane Gipson, Jestine Mellerson, Clyde Smythe, Monica Richardson and Doris Ragin; 11 great-grands; five great-great-grands; four step-grandchildren, Eartha Lee Bennett, Frances Green, Glendora Thames and Cleveland Frazier; two brothers, Abraham Caldwell of Summerton and Sam Caldwell (Cora) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and two sisters, Mageline Moultrie and Fannie Gibson of Summerton.

She was preceded in death by two sons, John Gibson and James Gibson; four brothers, Malachi Caldwell, Major Caldwell, Wade Caldwell and Calvin Caldwell; and four sisters, Bertha Gipson, Earline James, Malahia Bonaparte and Ester Rivers.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Melvin Capers, assisted by the Rev. E.L. DeLaine, the Rev. Warren Hatcher and the Rev. Henry Mitchell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Johnny Bonaparte, Malachi Caldwell, Joseph Caldwell, John Clay Gipson, Walter Jackson and Henry Rivers.

Floral bearers will be missionaries and stewardesses.

The funeral procession will leave at 2:30 p.m. from the residence, 1447 Garvey Road, Summerton.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1447 Garvey Road, Summerton.

Summerton Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
