ROSA BELL HARRELL

Rosa Bell Harrell, 70, wife of the late George Harrell Sr., died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 13, 1933, in Mayesville, she was the daughter of the late Dixon and Francis Titus Holloman. She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and savior and became a faithful member of Ebenezer AME Church. She was employed as a dietary assistant at Mariner Healthcare until she became ill.

Survivors are four daughters, Mary (James) Mitchell and Loraine (Jessie) Moses of Mayesville, Anna Harrell and Erica Harrell of the home; four sons, Martin (Gladys) Titus of Mayesville, Charles (Wilhelmenia) Harrell of Sumter, Willie (Franchita) Harrell of Alexandria, La., and Sammie Harrell of the home; two brothers, John Titus Sr. and Willie Holloman of Mayesville; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Davis Holloman and Wilhelmenia Titus as a sister for 54 years; 16 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two children, George Harrell Jr. and Joe Louis Harrell; two brothers, Grant Titus and Sammie Lee Holloman; and one granddaughter, Lashonda Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Ebenezer AME Church, Mayesville, with the pastor, the Rev. Leo Chapman Jr., officiating, assisted by the Rev. Vermelle Humes presiding. Burial will follow in Mayesville cemetery.

Floral bearers are nieces and pallbearers are nephews.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 3840 First St., Avenue D, Mayesville.

Scriven Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

SARAH D. LOWDER

TURBEVILLE -- Mrs. Sarah Danuline "Dandy" Lowder, age 80, died Oct. 12, 2004, in a Florence nursing facility, after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Turbeville with burial in the church cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church just prior to the service.

Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Barney Gaston Lee and Loca Mae Edge Lee. Mrs. Lowder was a graduate of Winthrop College, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She worked for more than 30 years as an educator, having taught grammar and high school. She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Lowder; and a brother, Barnwell Franklin Lee.

Surviving are two daughters, Harriet Dannette (Jeff) Cole of Florence and Marie L. (Doug) Bowles of Bonneau Beach; a son, Harrington Lee "Hal" (Frankie) Lowder of Manning; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

BILLY LEE LYNCH Sr.

Billy Lee Lynch Sr., 69, husband of Mavis Lyles Lynch, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Services will be announced by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter.

MOSES LEE JONES

SUMMERTON -- Moses Lee Jones, 61, husband of Katie Mae Starks Jones, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at his residence, 1271 Starks Drive, Davis Crossroads community, Summerton.

Born Dec. 29, 1942, in Summerton, Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Plummer Jones and Millie Davis Jones.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1271 Starks Drive, Davis Crossroads community, Summerton.

Services will be announced by Summerton Funeral Service of Summerton.

LILLIAN R. ZESTER

Lillian R. Zester, 86, wife of the late Norman George Zester, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Mariner Health of Sumter West.

Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

CECILE F. MILES

Cecile Frye Miles, 58, widow of Earl Davis Miles, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, after a long fight with cancer.

Born in Florence County, she was the daughter of the late R.B. Frye and the late Molinda Miles Frye. Mrs. Miles was a member of Sumter Freewill Baptist of the Pentecostal Faith Church and a retired seamstress.

Surviving are a son, Earl D. Miles Jr. of Sumter; two daughters, Bonita Griffin and husband, Kenny, and Crystal Frye, both of Sumter; two sisters, Betty Evans and husband, Q.L., and Emma Horne and husband, Buddy, all of Sumter; four brothers, Glenn Frye and wife, Dale, of Columbia, Robert Frye and wife, Shirley, Willie Frye, Randy Frye and wife, Ivy, all of Sumter; six grandchildren, Matthew "Corey" Williamson, Dustin Williamson, Raven Miles, Duane Griffin, Molinda "Keri" Miles and John Griffin; special friends, Christine Vencill, Sudie Barkley, Michelle Frye and Nette Lee; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Sumter Freewill Baptist of the Pentecostal Faith Church with the Rev. Larry Melton and the Rev. Clint Tawes officiating.

Burial will follow in the Strickland cemetery in Camp Branch.

Pallbearers will be Michael Horne, Corey Williamson, Dustin Williamson, Shane Frye, Scott Frye and Michael Albright.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Evans and Duane Griffin.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her sister, Betty Evans, 3725 Barkley Road.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

LINDA PACK

Mrs. Linda Diane Carter Pack died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born in Sumter County on Feb. 7, 1952, she was a daughter and the fourth child of the late Robert Carter Sr. and Dora Mae Brunson Carter. She attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Lincoln High School in the class of 1970. Linda was raised in Unionville AME Church and later joined Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

In December 1972, she was united in marriage to Russell Moise Pack.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Raja Pack; a brother, Gaston Barney Carter; and her father and mother-in-law, Moise and Lucille Pack.

Survivors are her husband, Russell Moise Pack of the home; a daughter, Lisa Pack, and granddaughter, Erika Le'Shay Brooks, both of Sumter; two brothers, Robert (Ann) Carter and John (Joann) Carter, both of Sumter; five sisters, Virginia Carter, Cathy (Terry) Maples, Debbie (James) Rembert, Gloria Jean (Roger) Solomon, all of Sumter, and Patricia (Earl) Lancaster of Richmond, Va.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Unionville AME Church, Mayesville, with the Rev. Joshua Dupree Jr., pastor, assisted by the Rev. Telley Lynette Gadson, the Rev. R.E. Bennett, the Rev. Stanley E. Hayes and Minister Irene Anthony.

The remains will be placed in the church for viewing from noon until the hour of service.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The funeral procession will leave at noon from the residence of her sister, Debbie Carter (James) Rembert, 961 Oswego Road, Sumter.

The family will also receive friends at 961 Oswego Road.

Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

SHIRLEY J. TROXEL

Shirley J. Troxel, age 60, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Mariner Healthcare West.

She was born in Mullins, the daughter of Bertha Mae Harrelson and the late Willie F. Harrelson. She attended Southside Assembly of God.

Surviving in addition to her mother are one son, James E. Dinsmoor and his wife, Nat, of Rex, Ga.; one brother, Jerry D. Harrelson; his wife, Hilda of Sumter; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Betty Gainey and the Rev. Don Hanson officiating.

Memorials may be made to Southside Assembly of God, Callen Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

DAVID PHILLIPS

David Lynn Phillips, 41, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004.

Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter.

LEVERN WOODS Jr.

LAMAR -- Funeral services for Levern Woods Jr., 38, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church. The burial will follow in the church's cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Lamar. The Rev. Daniel McGhaney will officiate the service.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. today.

Levern Woods Jr., affectionately called "Chico," was born in Florence, a son of Celectine Lowe and the late Levern Woods Sr. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and graduated from Hartsville High School in 1984 and continued his education at Benedict College in Columbia. He was first a member of Sandy Grove United Methodist Church.

Levern was united in holy matrimony to Sharon McGhaney at the home of his mother on June 11, 2002. He later joined Bethany Fellowship Baptist Church in Mayesville. He worked various jobs in and around the area. He loved working with his hands and especially enjoyed making things for his family.

"Chico" was a fun-loving and kind person. He enjoyed making others laugh. He was a music lover and, during his high school years, was one of the most talented drummers on the high school band. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Levern "Chico" Woods Jr. in addition to his mother, Celestine Lowe of Lamar, are his wife, Sharon M. Woods of Mayesville; his stepchildren, Sharrod McGhaney and Shakeylia McGhaney of Mayesville; three daughters, Ala Torya V. Crandford of Augusta, Ga., Vernisha Woods of Lamar and Novella Martin of Hartsville; one son, Levern Woods III of Lamar; two sisters, Jackie (Paul) Bailey of Hartsville and Janice (Calvin) Jacobs of Darlington; one brother, Kennedy (Louise Johnson) Woods of Hartsville; his great-aunt, Eva Nichols of Lamar; his godmother, Sharion Nichols of Lamar; his father-in-law, the Rev. Daniel McChaney of Sumter; his sisters-in-law, Michelle (Randall) Jennings, Valerie (the Rev. Leroy) Commander, Tonya (Wayne) Johnson and Sylvia (Derrick) Walker; his brother-in-law, the Rev. Daryl (Vivian) McGhaney; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives and very dear friends.

FRANK B. WELLS

Frank B. "Boy" Wells, 65, husband of Lillie Mae Mahoney Wells, died Oct. 9, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 13, 1938, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Frank B. Wells Sr. and Addie Sue McDonald Wells. Mr. Wells attended the public schools of Lee County. At an early age, he accepted Christ into his life and became a member of Unionville AME Church. Prior to retiring, he was employed by Roof Co.

Survivors besides his wife include four daughters, Darlene Titus and Rosaline (James) Porter, both of Baltimore, Patricia Wells of Sumter and Pamela (Eric) Singleton of Dalzell; three sons, Ernest (Patricia) Wells of Columbus, Ga., Ronald (Kimberly) Mahoney of Rock Hill and Lloyd C. Wells of Fort Pierce, Fla.; one sister, Viola M. Harry of Sumter; two brothers, Miller "Bill" Mack of Capital Heights, Md., and Johnnie Lee Wells of Sumter; four aunts, Madeline Collins of Fort Pierce, Fla., Lula Mae Wells of Mayesville, Julia Wells and Evelyn Anthony, both of Sumter; one uncle, George Collins of Fort Pierce, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Thomas (Mary) Mahoney of Dalzell; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Gavin of Dalzell, Bertha Embryo of Manhattan, N.Y., and Paris Wells of Sumter; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Georgia M. Clark; a childhood friend, Ada Marshall; two special friends, Nelson Graham and Francis Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Bell Hudson Wells; one daughter, Betty Jean Wells; and one son, Carl Wells.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Unionville AME Church with the Rev. Joshua Dupree, pastor, assisted by the Rev. R.E. Bennett. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 3825 Mahoney Lane, Dalzell, SC 29040.
