MOSES LEE JONES

SUMMERTON -- Moses Lee Jones, 61, husband of Katie Mae Starks Jones, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at his residence.

Born Dec. 29, 1942, in Clarendon County, Mr. Jones was a son of the late Plummer and Millie Davis Jones.

He attended the public schools of Clarendon County. He was a member of the Spring Hill A.M.E. Church.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Morall Jones of West Sayville, N.Y.; nine daughters, Tina Cooper of Reston, Va., Mozell (Allen) Thomas, Angie (Tracey) Gamble and Brenda (Alonzo) Jones all of Manning, Maria (Charles) Stukes of Sumter, Denise Jones of Columbia, Darlene (J.D.) Miller of Bishopville, Cynthia (Mack) McKenzie of Columbia, Gloria Jones of Tennessee; one adopted daughter, Barnett Bennett of Ft. Washington, Md.; one brother, Burgess Jones of New York, N.Y.; one sister, Ida Washum of Long Island, N.Y.; and 18 grandchildren.

Mr. Jones's body will be placed in the Spring Hill A.M.E. Church at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at the Spring Hill A.M.E. Church in Summerton.

Officiating ministers will be the Rev. Phillip Mixon assisted by the Rev. O'Neal Miller, Evangelist Deloris Parker and Pastor O'Celia Blue.

The funeral procession will leave from the residence at 1271 Starks Drive at 2:15 p.m.

The viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Summerton Funeral Service of Summerton.

ANTONIO 'TONY' THOMAS

BISHOPVILLE -- Antonio Thomas, age 22, son of Woodrow "Dilly" Thomas and Dianne S. Thomas, died Friday, Oct., 15, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. The family is receiving friends at the home, 514 Maple Drive, Bishopville.

Funeral services will be announced by Square Deal Funeral Home of Bishopville.

EUNICE RICH JORDAN

Eunice Rich Jordan, 85, widow of Charles F. Jordan, died Sat., Oct. 16, 2004, in National Healthcare of Sumter.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, and will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium.

LUTHER WILSON JR.

Mr. Luther Wilson, Jr., 56, departed this life on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 23, 1947, in Sumter, a son of the late Anna Ruby Perry Wilson and Luther Wilson, Sr.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his neice and nephew-in-law, LaToya and Reginald Golden, 264 Kinsey Dr.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Sumter Funeral Service, Inc.

LYDIA G. PHILLIPS

Mrs. Lydia G. Phillips, age 83, of Lynchburg, died Oct. 17, 2004, in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.

PRESTON AIKEN Sr.

MANNING -- Preston Aiken Sr., 77, widower of Novella Sinkler Aiken, died Oct. 16, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

A son of the late Lossie Aiken and Carrie Ragin Aiken, he was born in Summerton on Aug. 17, 1927.

The family will receive friends at his residence, 121 Calhoun St. in Manning.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

EUNICE RICH JORDAN

Eunice Rich Jordan, 85, widow of Charles F. Jordan, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in NHC of Sumter.

Born Oct. 28, 1918, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late William S. and Fannie Mell Bradham Rich. She was retired from B&D, worked as a CNA at Tuomey Healthcare System, and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas N. Hair Jr., and wife Donna of Tampa, Fla., and Steve Jordan of Dallas; a daughter, Sandra Phillips and husband John of Morehead City, N.C.; a brother, Bill Rich and wife Barbara of Lexington; four sisters, Florence Amdur of Cookville, Tenn., Mary Essie Lowder of Manning, Amelia "Mimi" Spencer and husband Joe of Mobile, Ala.; and Ruth Blizzard and husband Julian of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two stepsons, Charles F. Jordan Jr. and wife Claudia of Sumter and John Tart of Denver; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sara Margaret Lowder and Willie Rhodes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Lowder officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

CHRISTOPHER BURGESS

Christopher Burgess, 35, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Middleton Road.

Born May 12, 1969, in Manhattan, N.Y., he was a son of Maenard Burgess Sr. and Christine McCullum Burgess.

The family will receive friends at the home of his aunt, Gail Washington, 5810 Wessex Drive, Wedgefield.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

BILLY LEE LYNCH Sr.

Billy Lee Lynch Sr., 69, husband of Mavis Lyles Lynch, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Oliver Lynch and the late Fozia Lowder Lynch. Mr. Lynch was a member of Concord Baptist Church and a member of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind. He was retired from Korn Industries.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, Billy Lee Lynch Jr. of Hartsville and Karl Edward Lynch of Hampton, Tenn.; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Brown of Elkton, Md.; five sisters, Frances Dorrell of New Mexico, Mickey Sims of Toxey, Ala., Pat Brendlen and Shirley Boykin of Sumter and Betty Brewer of Manning; two brothers, Raymond Lynch and Edward Lynch, both of Sumter; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver and Fred Lynch; and a sister, Marie Lynch.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating.

Burial will be in the Sumter cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1707 Broome St.

Memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church Building Fund, 1885 Myrtle Beach Highway, Sumter, SC 29153.

IVORY J. COUSAR

Ivory Jean Cousar, 45, died Oct. 12, 2004, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital.

Born July 19, 1959, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Rosa Lee Sanders Cousar and the late Elijah Cousar Sr. At an early age, she accepted Christ and was baptized by Bishop W.T. English at Greater St. Paul Nondenominational Church, where she attended faithfully. After graduating from Sumter High School in 1977, she attended St. Leo College, where she received her bachelor's degree and furthered her education by receiving her master's degree in health science from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. For many years, she was employed by the administrative department of the University of South Carolina. She was later employed by Sumter School District 17, under the adult education department of computer science.

Survivors besides her mother include two sisters, Bettie (George) Shaw of Sumter and Deborah (Gerald) Cook of Columbia; four brothers, Calvin (Diane) Sanders of Oakland, Calif., Larry (Pam) Cousar, Elijah Cousar Jr. and Carlton Cousar, all of Sumter; a loving ex-sister-in-law, Annette Weaver Cousar; four nieces; five nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Grace Cathedral with Elder William Harriston officiating.

Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The family will receive friends at the home of her mother, Rosa Lee S. Cousar, 518 Dicks St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

QUINTEN R. WHEELER

Quinten Roshaun Wheeler, 16, died Oct. 9, 2004, at U.S. 378 East.

Born Feb. 21, 1988, in Sumter, he was a son of Clara Wheeler and Freddie Bracey. Quinten attended Furman Middle School, where he was a very respectful, well-mannered honor student, who was well-loved by the students, teachers and extended staff members. In August 2004, he became a freshman at Lakewood High School, where he was a very pleasant and well-loved student, with dreams of a bright future. He attended Galilee Baptist Church, Mayesville.

Survivors besides his parents include one brother, Cortez Rontrell Wheeler of the home; one sister, Erica Smith of Sumter; grandparents, Willie and Essie Lee Pringle Wheeler of Sumter; godparents, Aaron and Janice Leneau of Sumter; six aunts; 11 uncles; special cousins, Tony Valenica, William Wheeler Jr., Tiera Tia, Kendra and Nikki Johnson, Little Mike Bracey, Gary Rubin, Jaylen and Zelmon Whitlow; special friends, Quentrell Nelson, Crystal Cordera, Kiate Richburg, Rashad Leonard, Donnell Green, Quentin Smith and Kiera Davis; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Latonya Conyers; grandparents, Riley Bracey, John and Kathleen Davis; and one uncle, Bennie Wheeler.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakewood High School with the Rev. Eugene Myers, pastor of Galilee Baptist Church, assisted by the Revs. John Johnson and Willie Wright.

Burial will be in Mayesville cemetery.

The body will lie in state at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1405 Eagle Road, Lot 21, Sumter, SC 29154.

ROSA LEE B. DUKES

Mrs. Rosa Lee Ballard Dukes was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Sumter. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Allen Gary and Mrs. Ophelia Ballard Gary and the widow of Mr. Duncan Dukes. Mrs. Dukes was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Sumter and graduated from the public schools of Sumter County. She worked many years as a florist with the Blossom Shop.

On Oct. 10, 2004, from the Coske Associates of Florence, Mrs. Rosa Lee Ballard Dukes departed her earthly life.

Those who remain to cherish her memories and to be inspired by her are two sons, Mr. Harry Dukes of Greenville and Mr. Leroy Dukes and his wife, Louree, of Bronx, N.Y.; one daughter, Mrs. Alma Kennedy and her husband, John Jr., of Sumter; two adopted daughters, Mrs. Margaret Sanders and her husband, Clinton, and Ada Dukes, both of Sumter; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, a daughter, Miss Mary Ann Dukes, and one grandchild, Mr. Kevin Dukes, preceded Mrs. Rosa Lee Ballard Dukes in death.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Second Presbyterian Church, USA, Sumter, with the Rev. Julia A. Prince, supply pastor, and assisting by the Revs. Dr. R.E. Bligen Jr. and Emma W. Thompson.

The body will be placed in the funeral home for viewing from 1 to 9 p.m. today with a wake service from 6 to 7 p.m.

The body will also be placed in the church for viewing on Saturday from 2 p.m. until the hour of service.

The procession will leave from the home, 1056 Old Pocalla Road, Sumter, at 2:15 p.m., where the family is also receiving visitors.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.
