GEORGE COLEMAN Sr.

LYNCHBURG -- The Rev. George Coleman Sr., 56, died Oct. 16, 2004, on Narrow Paved Road.

Born Sept. 24, 1948, in Sumter, he was a son of the late May June and Willie Mae Burgess Coleman. Rev. Coleman attended Johnson Elementary School, Lynchburg, and was a 1966 graduate of Eastern High School, Sumter. He relocated to Washington, D.C., where he was employed as a security officer for the federal government. In June 1970, he was honorably discharged after serving two years in the United States armed forces during the Vietnam War. After serving his country so diligently, he returned to Sumter, where he attended Morris College for several years. A member of Mount Sinai AME Church, he served as assistant minister and was affiliated with numerous organizations and auxiliaries. He was employed by Lowe's of Sumter.

Survivors include a son, George Coleman Jr. of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Gilbert Coleman of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Edna Mae Coleman and Shirley Coleman-Benjamin, both of Suitland, Md.; one uncle, Alphonso Burgess of Washington, D.C.; four aunts; four nephews; two nieces; two grandnieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai AME Church, Lynchburg, with Elder Robert McCants, presiding elder of the Sumter District, assisted by the Revs. Moses McCants, pastor of Mount Sinai AME, Henry Davis, Howard D. Coleman and Minister Arnita Davis.

Burial will be in Edward cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at noon.

The family will receive friends at the home of Ruth Govan, 1450 Narrow Paved Road, Lynchburg, SC 29080.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

MOESE McCRAY Jr.

Moese McCray Jr., 61, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Health in Columbia.

Born March 24, 1943, in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of the late Moese McCray Sr. and Susanna Rose McCray. He attended the public schools of Sumter County. He later moved to Paterson, N.J., and worked at Oknite Cable Co. until retirement.

Survivors include two sons, Joslyn McCray of Sumter and Challah McCray (Junior) of Columbia; a daughter, Patricia (Marvin) Hutchinson of Columbia; three brothers, Judith Rose and Willie (Getta) McCray, both of New Jersey and Herbert McCray of Sumter; four sisters, Edith Mixon and Shirley Staton, both of New Jersey, Delphine McCray of North Carolina and Martha Williams of Sumter; an uncle, Matthew (Louise) Rose of St. George; an aunt, Mae Rose of Lynchburg; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Ernest Jackson officiating.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:30 p.m. from the home of his son, Joslyn McCray, 37 W. Charlotte Ave.

The family will receive friends at the home of his son, Joslyn McCray.

Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

EMMA A. MEDEMAR

Emma A. Medemar, 70, widow of Raymond L. Medemar, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.

Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter.

FRANCES W. LEVINE

Frances Winn Levine, 51, wife of Andrew Levine, died Oct. 21, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 24, 1952, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late David Winn and Early Mae Ingram Winn.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Cory Pringle, 43 E. Patricia Drive.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

CORNETTA N. FRIERSON

SUMMERTON -- Cornetta Nelson Frierson, 92, widow of Henry Frierson Sr., died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at McLeod Health Center, Florence.

Born March 8, 1912, in Summerton, Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Titus and Lula Nelson. She attended the public schools of Clarendon County. She was a retired farmer. In her youth, she was a member of St. James AME Church. In her later years, she joined St. Matthew AME Church, where she remained supportive and faithful until her demise.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Almettia) Frierson of Bronx, N.Y., and Henry (Cozetta) Frierson of Teaneck, N.J.; five daughters, Susie Boyd, Amie Cunningham, Sarah (Eugene) Wicker and Daisy (Layden) Taylor, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., and the Rev. Evelyn Frierson Dukes of the home; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; adopted daughter, Deloris Messick; and adopted son, Bryant Dingle.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Johnnie and Harry Frierson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew AME Church, Summerton, with the Rev. Manuel Fogle, pastor, officiating, Presiding Elder Alonza Middleton, assisted by the Rev. Dr. S.R. Miott, the Revs. Leroy Green, Silas Spann and R.L. Brown.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Floral bearers will be missionaries of the church.

The funeral procession will leave at 10:30 a.m. from the residence, 1114 Wilson Ave., Summerton.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Summerton Funeral Service of Summerton is in charge of arrangements.

MARIE H. OUTLAW

CASSATT -- Funeral services for Marie Holland Outlaw, age 54, who died Oct. 21, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Harmony Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville Chapel.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Outlaw was born in Kershaw County, a daughter of Clara Douglas Holland Croft and the late Sidney Holland Sr. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Camden.

Surviving are her mother of Sumter; sons, Harold, Jeff and Steve Hatcher of Camden; stepson, Stanley E. Outlaw of Kershaw; stepdaughters, Rhonda Spradley of McBee and Tiffni Outlaw of Lexington; sisters, Lee Tyler and Carolyn Peach of Sumter; brother, Johnny Holland of Sumter; four grandchildren.

DUANE K. WILLIAMS

Duane Kenneth Williams, 37, husband of Apryll Cox Williams, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 27, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of John Williams and Audrey Betts Williams.

The family will receive friends at the home, 3351 Camden Highway, Dalzell.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

KELVORTAE L. HANNIBAL

Baby boy Kelvortae Lavares Hannibal, the son of Ladovia Joe and Kelwyn Hannibal, died on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Thomastown cemetery in the Browntown community of Lee County.

Wilson Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St. in Bishopville, is in charge of arrangements.

HENRY E. EVANS

MANNING -- Henry Eugene "Buck" Evans, 51, husband of Shirley Hodge Evans, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in Carolinas Hospital System in Florence.

Born Jan. 18, 1953, in Manning, he was a son of Margaret Goins Evans Deprima and the late Jack Evans. He was a retired quality control inspector for Federal Mogul, a U.S. Army veteran, and was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors besides his wife of Manning include his mother and stepfather, Paul Deprima of Greeleyville; two daughters, Anna Evans and Jennifer Blasko of Manning; a son, Dustin L. Evans of Manning; two brothers, Tommy Evans of North Myrtle Beach and Ricky Evans of Manning; two sisters, Jackie Norris of Gaston and Susie Porter of Manning; and a grandson, Dustin L. Evans Jr. of Manning.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Tommy Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in Brewington Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Pallbearers are Freddie Porter, Tommy Evans Jr., Michael Evans, Rickie Evans, Richard Norris and Clay Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Hodge, LeRoy Dennis and John Bess.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and other times at the residence of Susie and Fred Porter, 7816 Raccoon Road, Manning.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

LISBON JACKSON

Lisbon "NIP" Jackson died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at New Zion AME Church today at 2 p.m.

Boatwright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ETHEL N. PRICE

Ethel Berry Neely Price, 96, widow of John Ollie Price, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at her home, 814 S. Main St.

Born Sept. 23, 1908, in Laurens, she was a daughter of the late Berry and Maggie Sullivan Neely.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

EVELYN W. GILLIAMS

Evelyn Weidman Gilliams, age 97, wife of the late Thomas Fleming Gilliams, died on Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at her residence.

Plans will be announced by a href="https://www.bullockfuneralhome.com/" target="_blank">Bullock Funeral Home.

SHARON STOUT ROBERSON

Sharon Stout Roberson, 58, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. She was born in Hoopston, Ill.

Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

EVELYN WEIDMANN GILLIAMS

Evelyn Weidmann Gilliams, age 97, beloved wife of the late Thomas Flemming Gilliams, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at her residence.

Gilliams was born in New York, N.Y., the daughter of the late Paul Milton and Mable Augsburger Weidmann. She taught dance for Arthur Murray in New York, loved to play golf and was an avid bridge player. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, truly a lady. She was of the Episcopal faith.

Survivors are: One daughter, Gail Gilliams Medley of Sumter; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Marcia Plessner; one step-daughter, Polly MacPherson; and one step-son, Thomas Gilliams Jr.

A memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Kirkland officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.
