Shaunda Olvera Belle Ard Cano died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter.

JAMES FLOYD DUKE

James Floyd Duke, 81, husband of Genevieve White Duke, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at his home.

Born Aug. 27, 1923, in Northampton County, N.C., he was a son of the late Waverly Jerome Duke and the late Eva Floyd Duke.

Mr. Duke was a member of Shaw Heights Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Air Force.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years; three children, Donna Duke Matthews of Nashville, N.C., Sylvia Duke Carraway of Friendswood, Texas, and James M. Duke of Sumter; one sister, Mary Shell Duke of Rich Square, N.C.; one brother, Ryland S. Duke of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Shaw Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Victor Cheek officiating.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Shaw Heights Baptist Church Bus Fund, 2030 Peach Orchard Road, Sumter, SC 29150 and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, South Carolina Chapter, 1247 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063.

FRANCES ANN LEVINE

Frances Ann Levine, 51, died Oct. 21, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 24, 1952, in Sumter County, the daughter of Early Mae Winn of Sumter and the late David Winn.

She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County. She was employed by Sumter County Home Health Services. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her savior and attended Mulberry Baptist Church. She later joined Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Corey (Dianne) Pringle; a daughter, Latasha Pringle; two grandchildren, Corey and Victoria Pringle; four brothers, David, Henry (Louise), Harry and George Winn, all of Sumter; and two sisters, Eliza (Marion) Jefferson of Mayesville and Laura Mae Sharpe of Sumter. She was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Winn.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter. The Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton, senior pastor, will officiate, assisted by Minister Irene Anthony.

Burial will be in Mulberry Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers and floral bearers will be friends of the family.

The procession will leave at 1:30 p.m. from the home of her son, Corey Pringle, 43 E. Patricia Drive, Sumter.

BLANCHE SPEARS HUNTER

Blanche Spears Hunter, formerly of 358 Seminole Road, Sumter, widow of Richard Hunter, died Oct. 23, 2004, at Mariner Healthcare East.

She was born Nov. 18, 1917, in Sumter, the daughter of the late Rev. Alonzo and Mea Hewson Spears.

Services are incomplete and will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

CARL SPROUSE Jr.

Carl Sprouse Jr., 78, resident of 1250 Cherryville Drive, widower of Lucy Mae Smith Sprouse, died Oct. 24, 2004, in Columbia.

Born in Laurens County, July 8, 1926, he was a son of the late Carl and Roxie Presher Sprouse. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired in 1969 after 20 years of service from the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War and three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a member and former deacon of Cherryville Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Sprouse Atkinson of Sumter; four sons, Carl F. Sprouse of Las Vegas, John S. Sprouse of Greenwood, Jerry T. Sprouse of Sparta, Ga., and Timothy J. Sprouse of Columbia; a sister, Audrey S. Hodges of Greenwood; three stepsons, James E. Gainey of Surfside, William L. Gainey of Gaston and Jody W. Gainey of Goose Creek; a stepdaughter, Robin Lynn Hodge of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with the Rev. Charles Krewson officiating.

Burial with full military rites will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Sprouse, 1513 Montague Ave., Greenwood, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the Autism Society of America Foundation, 7910 Woodmont Ave., Suite 300, Bethesda, MD 20814-3067.

CARRIE R. CANTY

The Rev. Dr. Carrie R. Canty, 77, died Oct. 23, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 2, 1927, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Bishop Frank Clifford Canty and Mrs. Marie Willis Canty.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1121 Lewis Road, Sumter, SC 29154.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

G. ANN HINSON

Memorial services for Mrs. G. Ann Hinson, 54, of Hopkins, were held at noon Monday at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jack Smith officiated.

The family received friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Carolinas Community Hospice.

Greenlawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hinson died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004. Born in Manning, she was the daughter of Marie McLeod Barkley and the late Louie Barkley of Sumter County. She was a respiratory therapist at Baptist Medical Center and vice president and treasurer of Curtis Fabrication and AB Fabrications.

Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 20 years, Curtis Hinson of Hopkins; daughters, Terri Ezzell and her husband, Ricky, of Eastover, Staci Merritt and her husband, Kyle, of Cayce, and Michelle Holman and her husband, Bill, of Gilbert; her mother of Sumter; one sister, Margaret Avins; and seven grandchildren.

STANLEY LEE HOPKINS Jr.

BISHOPVILLE -- Stanley Lee Hopkins Jr., 24, husband of Rachael Eileen Hopkins, died.

Born in Lee County, he was the son of Stanley L. Hopkins Sr. and Debbie Boykin Hopkins. He was a graduate of Bishopville High School and was employed by the Lee County Landfill.

Survivors besides his wife and parents of Bishopville include a son, Zane Hopkins; a daughter, Erin Hopkins; a brother, Tony Hopkins of Bishopville; a sister, Brandy Hopkins of Bishopville; his paternal grandfather, Eugene Hopkins of Bishopville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. William Lewis and the Rev. Wayne Flowers officiating.

Burial will be in the Red Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2333 Sumter Highway, Bishopville.

Memorials may be made to Red Hill Baptist Church, c/o Helen Hancock, 4485 Red Hill Road, Camden, SC 29020.

CORINE R. CONYERS

SUMMERTON -- Corine Robinson Conyers, 76, widow of Buster "Redbird" Conyers, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at her residence, 32 Parson St., Summerton.

Born Sept. 23, 1927, in Summerton, Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mary Robinson. She attended the public schools of Clarendon County. She was a member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Richard (Yolanda) Robinson of Atlanta, Ga., and Vernon (Joyce) Robinson of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Mable Ann (Wille) Russell of the home and Shirley Robinson of the home; one aunt, Corletta James of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two uncles, Perry Weathers of Brooklyn and Freddie Weathers of Kingstree.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Viewing will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson, pastor, and Evangelist Betty L. Johnson officiating, assisted by Pastor James Blanding.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The funeral procession will leave at 2:15 p.m. from the residence, 32 Parson St., Summerton.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Summerton Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

BRANDON McLEOD

Brandon McLeod, son of Vincent Clowell and Sandra McLeod and the grandson of Edith McLeod of Bishopville, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, N.Y. He was 12 years old.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the New York Church of Christ in Manhattan.

BARBARA W. DuCOM

Barbara Waksmouth DuCom, age 64, beloved wife of 44 years to David Oliver DuCom, died on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Shanghai, China, a daughter of the late Helene Tolmachef and Alex Koreisha. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Michael DuCom and his wife, Lisa, of Sumter and David DuCom and his wife, Suzanne, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Natalie Sutton of El Paso, Texas; one brother, Nicholas Koreisha of Virginia; and eight grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Father Alister McKay C.S.s.R. officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Anne's Catholic Church, "521 Building Fund," 216 E. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.
