MABLE PEARSON

Mable Pearson, 87, wife of Jasper Pearson, died Oct. 21, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 1, 1917, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Hayes Peterson and Alice Zuell Peterson.

The family will receive friends at the home, 41 E. College St.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

E. ROGER IPOCK

MANNING -- E. Roger Ipock, 78, husband of Mary Alice Turner Ipock, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born Dec. 15, 1925, in Vanceboro, N.C., he was a son of the late Charlie Lee and Mary Ethel Smith Ipock. He was retired area manager for Progress Energy, an honor graduate of North Carolina State University, a WWII Army veteran, a member of First Baptist Church, former deacon, teacher of P. T. Bradham Sunday school class, a member of Manning Rotary Club, Mullet Club, liaison for Downtown Manning Revitalization Project, chairman of Committee of 100, Retiree Committee of Chamber of Commerce, member of Santee-Wateree Mental Health Board of Directors for 26 years, and member of Manning Municipal Election Committee.

Surviving besides his wife of Manning are a son, David R. (Debbie) Ipock of Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters, Lynn (Jim) Pope of Charlotte, Karen (Tim) Hodgin of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lisa (Kyle) Roland of Wagener; two sisters, Edith Cox of Raleigh, N.C. and Lila Cleve of Vanceboro, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Manning First Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Bridges and the Rev. Dudley Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Manning cemetery.

Lad Owens, Leon McDonald, Ed Garris, Jim Phillips, Jim Queen, and Larry Williamson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include the P. T. Bradham Sunday school class, Manning Rotary Club and Mullet Club.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Kitchen Renovation Fund, 49 W. Boyce Street, Manning, SC 29102.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 213 Glenwood Drive.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

MILLIE A. WHITE

ROXBORO, N.C. -- Millie Allen White, 66, of 97 Coy Monk Road, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at her home.

Born in Person County, she was daughter of the late Arch Lamberth and Mabel Wilmouth Allen. Mrs. White retired from Collins & Aikman.

Mrs. White is survived by her daughter, Rita Rimmer Kirven and husband George, of Mayesville; three grandchildren, George Kirven Jr. and wife Tiffany, Jerry Kirven and wife Tracey and Christopher Kirven; three great-grandchildren, James Austin Huntley, Drake Allen and Matthew Thomas Kirven.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Brooks and White Chapel by the Rev. David Chambers. Burial will follow in Person Memorial cemetery.

No visitation will be scheduled.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

ROBERT M. NETTLES

Robert Mason Nettles, 90, husband of Marjorie Brunk Phillips Nettles, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born April 29, 1914, in Wedgefield, he was a son of the late Elias Whilden Nettles and Lucy Mellette Nettles. Mr. Nettles was twice married , first to the late Roland Tucker Nettles, then to Marjorie Brunk Phillips Nettles. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Sumter, where he served as a deacon and elder. Mr. Nettles had a lifelong relationship with Nu-Idea School Supply Co., a family owned business founded by his father-in-law, Roy H. Tucker. In 1989, he retired as president and CEO. Mr. Nettles received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to the school and church equipment business, including, several times, South Carolina and North Carolina representative to the National School Supply Institute. He served on boards of manufacturers of school desks of church pews and equipment in South Carolina, North Carolina and Texas.

Mr. Nettles served as a member of the YMCA Board, Salvation Army Board, Sumter County Development Board, Sumter Committee for Progress, Sumter-Shaw-Lee Area Boy Scout Board, Sumter Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sumter Rotary Club.

Mr. Nettles was a past member of the Brohun Lake Club, Couples Dinner Club and charter member of the Cotillion Club. He was also a member of First Families of South Carolina and the Huguenot Society.

Mr. Nettles is survived by his wife of Sumter; two sons, Robert Mason Nettles Jr. of Awendaw and Tucker Whilden Nettles of Pawleys Island; three daughters, Roland Nettles Moise of Dallas, Mary Louise Nettles Dalton of Bassett, Va., and Nancy Lee Nettles Woodward of Sumter; three stepdaughters, Carol Phillips Kirven of Sumter, Patricia Phillips McEwen of Rochester, N.Y., and Virginia Phillips Nasipak of Del Ray, Fla.; two sisters, Margaret Nettles Crumpton of Sumter and Eliza Ann Nettles Wessinger of Columbia; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Elias Whilden Nettles Jr.; and a sister, Louise Nettles McLaurin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Zane Moore and Dr. Thomas Painter officiating.

Burial will follow in Wedgefield Presbyterian Church cemetery.

His eight grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Designated Funds, 9 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150; Wedgefield Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 36, Wedgefield; or Covenant Place Endowment Fund, 2825 Carter Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

THEOLA R. HORTON

PINEWOOD -- Theola Ragin Horton was born Aug. 23, 1928, in Clarendon County. She died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son and daughter, Alvin Horton and Minnie Horton Junious, 1129 Armour Hill Road, Pinewood.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Liberty Hill AME Church.

Fleming Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

RONALD B. GEDDINGS Sr.

Ronald Blake Geddings Sr., 54, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at home.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of Amberlee McLeod Geddings and the late Beaty Roland Geddings. Mr. Geddings was a member of the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints and was a retired long-distance truck driver.

Surviving besides his mother of Sumter are one son, Ronald Blake Geddings Jr. of Sumter; one daughter, Crystel L. Jones of Sumter; two brothers, Wayne Geddings of Summerton and Larry Geddings of Sumter; two sisters, Joyce Reinacher of Sumter and Florence Long of Utah; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother and a sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Bishop Marion Ardis officiating.

Burial will follow at Sumter cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Fricker, Tommy Geddings, Jim Fender, Teddy Beach, Harold Tindal and J.B. Hodge.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of his mother, 4040 Nazarene Church Road.

DUANE K. WILLIAMS

Duane Kenith Williams, 37, husband of Apryll Cox Williams, died Oct. 22, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 27, 1966, in Cleveland, he was a son of the late John Isaac and Audrey Williams and Floyd Robinson I and Flossie Robinson. He was educated in the public schools of Cleveland. In the spring of 2004, he attended Central Carolina Technical College, Sumter. "Cleveland Dee," as he was affectionately known as, and his wife, Apryll, owned and operated L.B.U. Janitorial Services. Duane had a heart of gold and he shared it with everyone he met.

Survivors besides his devoted and loving wife of 18 years, Apryll Cox Williams, include one son, Duane Kenith II of the home; three daughters, Dujane Nicole, Jeanetta-Maria and Christine Denyse, all of the home; three brothers, Robert Christian Robinson, Vernall Robinson III and Joe Williams Griffin, all of Cleveland; three sisters, Patricia, Gene and Leslie, all of Cleveland; his mother-in-law, Jeanette M. Cox; brother-in-law, Anthony D. Cox; and his South Carolina adopted parents, Pop and Ma Alston.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Betty Williams; his grandmother, Gertrude McDavid; and father-in-law, Alfred L. Cox.

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with Pastor Ray Hoskins officiating.

The procession will leave at 11:30 a.m. from his home, 3351 Camden Highway, Dalzell.

ARTHUR CROSBY

COLUMBIA -- Mr. Arthur Crosby, of 529 Britternunt Road, Columbia, entered eternal rest at the Lexington Medical Center in Lexington.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of his niece, Mrs. Pasty Pugh, 1062 Billups Road, Rimini.

Funeral services are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Community Funeral Home of Sumter.

CLARA GAMBLE

NEW ZION -- Clara Bell Pearson Gamble, 60, wife of Centry Gamble, died Oct. 25, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born Oct. 21, 1944, in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Willis Pearson and Sarah Harvey Pearson James.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1118 Black River Road, New Zion.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

ETHEL PRICE

Mrs. Ethel Berry Neely Price, 96, widow of John Ollie Price, died Oct. 22, 2004, at her residence, 814 S. Main St.

Born Sept. 23, 1908, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Berry Franklin and Mrs. Maggie Sullivan Neely. Mrs. Price grew up in First Baptist (Shiloh) Church in Sumter, where she became a Christian at an early age. She attended the primary and secondary schools in Sumter and received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Morris College. She obtained her master's degree from North Carolina Central. Mrs. Price taught at Rimini Elementary School and The Goodwill School, where she taught sewing and served as the girl's basketball coach. She was principal at Chandler School and continued her teaching career at Stone Hill and Crosswell Drive Elementary schools, retiring in May 1975. Mrs. Price received numerous awards and was a member of several organizations. She received the distinguished alumna award from Morris College, served as president of the Progressive Federated Club, Cub Scouts of America den mother, life member of the NAACP and member of the Sumter County Retired Educator's Association. She was honored by First Baptist Missionary Church for outstanding and dedicated services to the Missionary Society.

Survivors include two grandsons, James Oliver Price Jr. and Jimmy Lee Jenkins Jr., both of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Veronica Price Jenkins (Jimmy Lee Jenkins); a nephew, Raymond McCoy of Sacramento, Calif.; one niece, Linda McCoy Kumi of Silver Springs, Md.; four great-grandchildren; several grandnieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Raleigh McCoy; nephew-in-law, Kwame Kumi; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Oliver Price; three sisters, Mary L. Whinen, Hattie Pratt and Arthuree McCoy; and one brother, Richard R.P. Neely.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Missionary Church with the Rev. Dr. W.S. Randolph, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Larry C. Weston and Dr. Luns C. Richardson.

Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 814 S. Main St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.
