EUNICE B. LUCKEY

BISHOPVILLE -- "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course. I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4: 6 and 7.

Eunice Dozier Luckey was born in Talbooton, Ga., the daughter of the late John and Annie Mae Dozier and widow of the late Elder Felix Luckey.

She entered her eternal rest on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Carolina Pines Medical Center, Hartsville.

In her youth, she was baptized at Rose Hill Memorial Baptist Church in Columbus, Ga., where she served as the pianist. Her early educational training began in the public schools of Columbus. She continued her education at Fort Valley State College in Fort Valley, Ga., and received her Master of Education degree in Business Education from New York University in New York.

Prior to becoming a teacher, she was the first minority secretary with the Department of Social Services in Columbus.

Elder Luckey joined the faculty of Dennis High School upon establishing her residence in Lee County. Later, she became a member of the faculty at Bishopville High School.

Elder Luckey served on the first faculty of the Lee County Career Center, after which she became Assistant Principal of Mount Pleasant High School, Elliott. She was named Assistant Director of the Lee County Career Center. Later, she was assigned the position of Director of the Career Center and served in that position until her retirement.

Elder Luckey was an active member of Cousar Memorial Presbyterian Church, USA, where she was the church treasurer and pianist. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend to the many lives with whom she touched.

Her precious memories will be cherished by two sons, Gregory Bernard of Phildelphia and Felix D'John of the home; a sister, Johnny Carr, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a devoted niece, LInda Perry-Carr (Sam) of Queens, N.Y.; other nieces, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at Square Deal Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Monday.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Cousar Memorial Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Frederick Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Florence National cemetery.

Square Deal Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

WAYNE T. SIMS

Wayne T. Sims, 58, husband of Linda Parker Sims, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004.

Plans will be announced by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad Street.

JAMES ALLAN BROOKES

James Allan Brookes died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

DAVID GRANT

REMBERT — David Grant, husband of Thomasena James Grant, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at the Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

Born in Sumter County on May 6, 1931, he was a son of Rosa Skinner Grant and the late Leroy Grant.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later time.

The family will recieve friends at the residence of his wife, Thomasena Grant, 5625 Dais Road in Rembert.

Palmer Memorial Chapel of Sumter is in charge of the funeral service.

DAVID B. BELL Jr.

MT. PLEASANT -- The Rev. David B. Bell Jr., 71, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at his home in Mt. Pleasant.

The Rev. Bell was born in Aiken on July 16, 1933, to B. David Bell and Susie Elizabeth Hendrix Bell.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Dr. Anne Christenberry, of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Jackie Owens; one brother, Phillip Bell; two sons, Brian and Michael Bell; and five grandchildren, Courtney, Nicole, Steven, Benton and Allison Bell, all of Augusta, Ga., and North Augusta.

David served in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps during the Korean conflict. He was a graduate of RIchmond Academy and Furman University. He earned graduate degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Pepperdine University. His Christian ministry included Trinity Baptist Church in Spencer, N.C., and in South Carolina, where he was pastor of Laurel Baptist Church, Greenville, Shaw Heights Baptist Church, Sumter, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Trenton, and Northbridge Baptist Church, Charleston. After retirement, he served as interim pastor and guest minister in a number of churches in the Charleston area.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Trenton, followed by burial in the churchyard. The Rev. Phillip Burden will be officiating.

Pallbearers are Phillip Bell Jr., Cameron Bell, Ryan Bell, Timothy Bell and Scott Moman, all David's nephews, and Dr. W.S. Christenberry.

All friends are invited to attend a 3 p.m. memorial service Sunday, Nov. 21, at Ashley River Baptist Church, Charleston.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International or Lutheran Hospice of Charleston.

Rowland Funeral Home of North Augusta is handling arrangements.

AGNES M. DUNLAP

Agnes M. Dunlap, 86, widow of Dewey J. Dunlap, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at a local nursing center.

Born in Marlboro County, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Mathis and the late Dessie Mathis.

She was a member of First Southern Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Annie Laurie McLeod of Paxville, Nancy Brabham of Olar and Linda Lewis of Pinewood; a sister, Virginia Reynolds of Cedarstown, Ga.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert White.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of Annie Laurie McLeod, 1321 McLeod Road, Paxville.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

JULIA WARREN HOAR

Julia Warren Hoar, 88, wife of John Sherman Hoar, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter.

The family will receive friends following the services at the Parish Life Center at the church.

MAYBELLE D. WRIGHT

Maybelle Dow Wright, 83, widow of James W. Wright, died Nov. 10, 2004, in Plymouth (Orange County), Fla.

Born March 9, 1921, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Samson Dow and Leavy Joseph Dow.

She attended school in Sumter County. At an early age, she joined the St. Paul AME Church-Shaw and was affiliated with the Women Missionary Society. She had a great love for her Sumter and Florida communities.

Survivors include four sons, James (Maggie) Wright, Irvin (Carrie) Wright of Sumter, George R. (Clara Mae) Wright of Apopka, Fla., and Frank A. (Rosa Anthony) Wright of Winter Garden, Fla.; one daughter, Rosa Lee (John) Jackson, of Plymouth; one sister, Azalee Dow Johnson of Sumter; 35 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Levi, Ernest and Michael Wright; and 11 sisters and brothers.

The remains will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday from St. Paul AME Church, 1495 N. St. Pauls Church Road, Sumter, with the Rev. James S. Cooper, pastor and eulogist, officiating, assisted by the Rev. H.A. Hinton.

Burial will be in St. Paul AME churchyard cemetery, Sumter.

Pall bearers will be nephews and grandsons.

Floral bearers will be nieces and granddaughters.

The procession will leave at 3:20 p.m. from the home of her son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Maggie Wright Jr., 4475 Stick Lane, Sumter.

WAYNE T. SIMS Sr.

Wayne Timothy Sims Sr., 58, husband of Linda Parker Sims, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Eugene Sims and Maggie Timmons Sims.

Mr. Sims was a member of Southside Baptist Church and was retired from law enforcement after 30 years of service in Sumter and Lee counties.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; one son, Wayne Timothy Sims Jr. and wife Lynn of Sumter; and two grandchildren, Chandler Sims and Cameron Sims.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Sims, Harvey Sims and Jimmy Sims.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. G.W. Harrell officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of his son, 3450 Wedgefield Road.

Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church Building Fund, 1116 Manning Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

MOSES KENDRICK

Moses Kendrick, 91, widower of Carrie Robinson Kendrick, died Nov. 10, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born July 19, 1913, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Martin Van Buren Kendrick Sr. and Alice McLeod Kendrick.

Moses was educated in the public schools of Sumter and Kershaw counties. He attended Mount Pisgah Baptist Church as a child and later joined his wife at High Hill AME Church in order to promote a single church home for his family. A veteran of World War II, Moses served in the Army in North Africa and Europe. He was employed at Shaw Air Force Base for 30 years before retiring to work on the family farm, maintain the garden that his wife loved and travel to various church conferences. Moses loved his church and was a faithful participant and contributor. Before his health failed, he served his church in many capacities: co-chair of the Trustee Board, co-chair of the Steward Board and Pastor's Steward, superintendent of the Sunday school and chair of the Building Fund. Throughout his 91 years, Moses had many beloved friends. The family cherishes the interest and care demonstrated by steadfast friends. The kindness of the High Hill Church family ensured contact with his congregation. For those alliances, the family is grateful.

Survivors include three children, Mosina Kendrick and Cheryle Buggs (Jesse) of Maryland and Julia Wright (Eddie) of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Gabriel Kendrick of New Jersey and Julius Funchess (Corinne) of Washington, D.C; two sisters, Willie Mae Bolden and Mary (Harry) Sanders of South Carolina; three grandsons, Jesse III, Nicholas and Ian; one great-granddaughter, Janvier; and one aunt, Anita McLeod of New York.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday from High Hills AME Church, Dalzell, with the Rev. M. Charmaine Ragin, pastor and eulogist, officiating, assisted by Minister G. Donnell Williams-Miller.

Burial will be in High Hills AME Churchyard cemetery, Dalzell.

Pallbearers will be trustees and stewards.

Floral bearers will be the Floral Club and Stewardess and Women Missionary Society.

The procession will leave at 12:20 p.m. from the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry and Mary K. Sanders, 6530 Camden Highway, Rembert.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry and Mary K. Sanders, 6530 Camden Highway, Rembert.
