ODESSA F. PRINCE

GABLE -- Odessa Fortune Prince, 81, widow of Atlee Prince Sr., died Nov. 9, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 12, 1922, in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Torrence and Susanne Toney Fortune.

Mrs. Prince received her formal education at Goodwill Parochial School. At an early age, she joined Goodwill Presbyterian Church, USA in Mayesville. She relocated to New York, where she worked diligently at First Jerusalem Baptist Church for nine years. In 1969, she returned to Sumter, reunited with Goodwill Presbyterian Church and served in the following capacities: the adult Sunday school class, Presbyterian Women Organization, Inspirational Choir, Love Circle and as an ordained deacon. She was also a member of the Household of Ruth No. 3728 Lodge.

Survivors include two daughters, Janie (James) Sellers of the home and Lenora P. "Sweetie" (Nathaniel) Holloman of Rembert; one son, Walter (Jeanette) Prince of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a stepson, Atlee (Shirley) Prince Jr. of Charleson; two foster children, Wanda (Arthur) Brown and Eddie (Michelle) Jackson, both of Florence; one sister, Mary (Romeo) Cooper of Gable; seven grandchildren, Corey (Kimberly) Cox of Graham, N.C., Earl Gregg of Columbia, Justice Sellers of Seattle, LaKisha Sellers of Queens, N.Y., Cedric Prince of Sumter, Ieesha English and Ashanti English, both of the home; seven foster grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two special and faithful nieces, Ada (Vernal) Cousar and Annie Fortune; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one son, Alex "Sonny" McDowell.

Funeral services will be held at noon today at Goodwill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Baxter, pastor, officiating.

The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. today.

Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 120 S. Brick Church Road, Gable.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

JEFFREY HASEMANN Sr.

BISHOPVILLE -- Jeffrey Hasemann Sr., 42, husband of Linda Faye Tidwell Hasemann, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.

Born in Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Eugene Hasemann and the late Catherine Steele Hasemann.

He was employed by United Management.

Survivors besides his wife include three sons, Jeffrey Hasemann Jr. and Michael Tidwell, both of Bishopville, and Allen Tidwell and his wife, Rachel, of Dalzell; a brother, Eugene Hasemann and his wife, Mary Ellen, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two nieces, Jessica Hasemann and Stephanie Hasemann.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home with the the Revs. T.W. Mitchell and James Copeland officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Ashwood Nazarene Church, 2145 Green Lane, Bishopville, SC 29010.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

JULIA W. HOAR

Julia Warren Hoar, 88, wife of John Sherman Hoar, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Robert Mack Warren and Sarah Katherine Kelly Warren.

Mrs. Hoar was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, where she was a former member of the vestry, a former choir director, a former chairperson of the community relations committee, a former lay reader, a member of the prayer team and a Stephen minister. She provided music for many children's programs.

Mrs. Hoar was a 1936 graduate of Winthrop College and received a master's degree in music education from the University of South Carolina. She taught for a number of years in Sumter School District 2. She was a music teacher in Sumter School District 17 as well as an elementary music supervisor.

Mrs. Hoar was very active in various community activities and organizations. She helped establish the Sumter County Mental Health Association, where she was awarded a Mental Health Volunteer of the Year Award. She was a founding member of the Sumter Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. She actively supported the Sumter Little Theatre, particularly in children's programs. She was a member of the Woman's Afternoon Music Club.

Surviving are her husband of Sumter; two sons, Rob Crosby Hoar and wife Pam of Nashville, Tenn., and Stephen Warren Hoar of Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter, Nan Hoar Cannarella and husband Joe of Sumter; one sister, Ann (Billy) Connelly of Valdese, N.C.; three grandchildren, Lisa Cannarella Dubay, Anne Marie Cannarella Crowe and Matthew Crosby Hoar; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter with the Rev. Dr. John M. Barr officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service in the Parish Life Center at the church and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, 213 Main St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to the Sumter County Mental Health Association, 215 N. Magnolia St., Sumter, SC 29150.

SIERRA E. WINDHAM

Sierra Elizabeth Windham, infant daughter of Thomas Charles Windham and Tammy Elizabeth Stone Windham, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Survivors besides her parents include a brother, T.J. Windham of the home; paternal grandparents, Thomas L. and Ellen Windham of Bishopville, and Clara "Sis" Windham of Sumter.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

DAVID GRANT

David Grant, husband of Thomasina James Grant, died on Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia.

Born in Sumter County on May 6, 1931, he was a son of Rosa Skinner Grant and the late Leroy Grant.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Rembert.

The remains will be placed in the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.

Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.

MARGUERITE W. WILDER

Marguerite Wilder Wilder, 86, wife of Belton O'Neal Wilder Jr., died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at her home.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late James Guignard Richardson Wilder and the late Ida Stansill Wilder. Mrs. Wilder was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School class. She was a retired chief clerk with Seaboard Coastline Railroad.

Surviving are her husband of Sumter; a niece, Betty Hendrix of Lexington; a nephew, Robert L. Wilder of Myrtle Beach; and a step-niece, Floride McKoy of Stateburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in Sumter cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1305 Manning Road.

Ruth Virginia Windham Riles, 80, window of James Clifton Riles, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be announced by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter.

BETTE HUDSPETH

Bette Hudspeth died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter.

Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

MARTHA S. PIERRE

Martha Singleton Pierre, 89, widow of Jack Pierre, died Nov. 5, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 9, 1915, in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late William and Susannah Taylor Singleton. Mrs. Pierre attended the public schools of Sumter County. She later moved to New York City, where she lived and worked for many years. After returning to Sumter, she joined Wayman Chapel AME Church, where she gave her financial support.

Survivors include her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Maggie Lang and Elizabeth Pinckney; and five brothers, Samuel, Edward, Heyward, Matthew and Willie Singleton.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Wayman Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Laddie N. Howard, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

RENA B. NELSON

GABLE -- Rena Barron Nelson, 77, widow of Samuel Edgar Nelson Jr., died Thursday afternoon at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning.

WILLIAM D. BREWER

WEDGEFIELD -- William Douglas Brewer, age 70, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia, following an extended illness.

Born in Anderson County, Mr. Brewer was the son of the late William Sutton and Anabel Logan Brewer. He was twice married . Mr. Brewer grew up in Walhalla. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951, serving for six years during the Korean War. He worked as a firefighter and crash rescuer for Lockheed of Greenville for a number of years. He later moved to Wedgefield, making a career as a Civil Service employee at Shaw Air Force Base, working as a firefighter and crash rescuer for Shaw AFB and Poinsett Bombing Range until his retirement.

Survivors include: a daughter and grandson, Karen LeAnna Brewer and William Elijah Brewer of Clayton, Ga.; two sons, Matthew Douglas Brewer of Tiger, Ga., and John Douglas Brewer of Virginia; a sister, Elizabeth Cox of Seneca; a nephew, Terry Cox of Easley; and a niece, Phyllis Kesler.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Bullock Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Beaufort National cemetery in Beaufort.

The family will receive friends following the service at Bullock Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.
