MARGARET R. LAWSON

SUMMERTON -- Margaret Ragin Lawson, 76, wife of the late Paul Lawson, died Nov. 19, 2004, at Palmetto-Baptist Medical Center, Columbia.

Born June 15, 1928, in the Panola community of Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Victor Ragin and Maggie Gaymon Ragin.

The family will receive friends at her home, 1252 Hurricane Falls Lane, Summerton.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

ABBEGALE G. BILLUPS

SUMMERTON -- Abbegale Green Billups, 37, wife of James L. Billups, died Nov. 18, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia.

Born Oct. 4, 1967, in Rimini, she was a daughter of the late Roosevelt Billups and Birnather Green.

Mrs. Billups received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County.

She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and served on its usher board, adult choir and pastor aide board.

In addition, she served as secretary of its sunday school, Christian Fellowship Association, Youth Missionary Association, YWCA and many others.

Survivors besides her husband include one son, Willie Jackson III of the home; two daughters, Aerial Billups and Kayla Wilder, both of Summerton; six brothers, Robert (Connie) Green and John H. Green, both of Thomasville, N.C., Thomas Green of White Plains, N.Y., Jimmy Lee Green of Georgia, Moses Oliver and Barry Ragin, both of Summerton; three sisters, Freddie Louise Green of Summerton, Earlo Mae Gaymon and Betsy Green, both of Thomasville, N.C.; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

The remains will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Monday.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Mazyck Street, Summerton, with the Rev. O'Donald Dingle, pastor officiating, Rev. Dr. W. T. Johnson, presiding, assisted by Rev. Dr. Cokley Richburg, Rev. J.H. Pringle and Evangelist Elizabeth Pack.

Burial will be in Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 14 Second St., Apt. E, Summerton.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

RUSSELL H. HEYWARD

Russell H. Heyward, 56, husband of Gail Bouchette Heyward, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Dorn V. A. Hospital in Columbia.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory.

TYRONE DINKINS

BISHOPVILLE -- Tyrone "Good Buddy" Dinkins, 27, fiancé of Erica Morgan, died Nov. 17, 2004, at S.C. 154 in Bishopville.

Born April 4, 1977, in Sumter County, he was a son of Hosea and Lucille Scarborough Dinkins.

Tyrone attended Lower Lee Elementary School and was a 1996 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. While at Mt. Pleasant, he sang on the school's choir and received numerous awards and honors for playing football.

Survivors besides his fiancé and parents include two daughters, Tequila and Taniyiau Dinkins; three brothers, Hosea Dinkins Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Timothy (Drew) Dinkins and Ernest (Tonya) Dinkins, both of Bishopville; five sisters, Felicia (James) McMillian, Ernestine Dinkins, Tyre (Alfonzia) Dinkins, Barbara Wilson and Hoseanna James, all of Bishopville.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tymik Dinkins and a sister, Gloria Jean Moses.

Visitations will be held today from 12:30 to 6 p.m. at the mortuary.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Monday.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Mark Baptist Church, Manville, with Rev. W.C. Wilkes officiating.

Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 95 Bowman Road, Bishopville.

Wilson's Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St., Bishopville, is in charge of arrangements.

RUSSELL H. HEYWARD

WEDGEFIELD -- Russell H. Heyward, 56, husband of Gail Bouchette Heyward, died Saturday Nov. 20, 2004, at Dorn V.A. Hospital in Columbia.

Born in Harrisburg, Pa., he was the son of Mary Rice Heyward and the late Paul Heyward.

Mr. Heyward was a reserve officer with the Sumter County Sheriff's Department and a supervisor with the Sumter County Public Works Department. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam veteran and a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Besides his wife of Sumter and mother of Hanahan, S.C., he is survived by two sons, Russell Lee Heyward and Jonathan David Heyward, both of Sumter; two brothers, Joseph Heyward of North, S.C., and Robert Heyward of Sumter; two sisters, Virginia Galtin of Waxahachee, Texas, and Polly Ann LaRouche of Charleston; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Heyward.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

ASHWELL "SKEBO" MCFADDEN

Mr. Ashwell "Skebo" McFadden, 62, departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at his residence, 556 S. Main St.

He was born Sept. 8, 1942, in Clarendon County, son of Mrs.Vera Bennett McFadden and the late Mr. Eugene McFadden.

He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was formally employed by The Goodwill of New York for many years.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving mother, Mrs. Vera McFadden of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Liza Poole of Washington, D.C.; one grandson, Kawon Poole; two sisters, JoAnn (Sam) Caldwell of Washington, D.C., and Dora J. Sanders of Sumter; two brothers, Austin McFadden of Washington, D.C., and James Nelson of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Willie Mae McFadden; one aunt, Virginia (Jake) Fulton; a special niece, Danae Lynne Brunson; a special nephew, Austin (Bunny) Smalls; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends that are deeply grieved by his passing.

Services for Mr. McFadden will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Union Station AME Church with the Rev. Friendly Gadson, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Melina Presbyterian Churchyard cemetery.

The funeral procession will leave the home, 556 S. Main St., at 12:40 p.m.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Sumter Funeral Services, Inc., 623 Manning Ave., is in charge of the arrangements.

MARY ELLEN HARVIN

Mary Ellen "Dolly" Harvin, 96, widow of Septimus Augustus Harvin, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Covenant Place in Sumter.

Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Forest Hampton Suber and the late Etta Virginia Skinner Suber.

Mrs. Harvin graduated from Sumter High School and later received a bachelor's degree from Converse College in 1929 before teaching school in Charlotte, N.C. She was a member of Saint James Lutheran Church, where she served in many capacities. She was a charter member of the Junior Welfare League of Sumter, The Sumter Assembly and The Sumter Art Association.

Surviving are her son, Septimus Augustus Harvin Jr. and wife Betty Hall Harvin of Sumter; her daughter, Virginia Anne Harvin McLaurin and husband Hugh McFaddin McLaurin III of Wedgefield; two granddaughters, Mary Louise McLaurin Jones and husband Wade Hampton Jones III of Aiken and Virginia Harvin McLaurin Mota and husband Daniel Anthony Mota of Sumter; four grandsons, Septimus Augustus Harvin III and wife Kimberly Foreman Harvin of Sumter, Stephen Forest Harvin and wife Nancy Hickman Harvin of Poquoson, Va., Winfield Scott Harvin and wife Susan Chavey Harvin, Hugh McFaddin McLaurin IV and wife Leigh Edumunds McLaurin, all of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Edna Chandler Suber of Clemson; five great-granddaughters and five great-grandsons.

Mrs. Harvin was preceded in death by a brother, Forest Hampton Suber.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Saint James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tony Metze and the Rev. Elizabeth Platts officiating.

The family will receive friends in the narthex of the church.

Burial will be held privately.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be sent to Saint James Lutheran School, 1137 Alice Drive, Sumter, S.C. 29150.

PATRICIA G. LOCKHART

PAWLEYS ISLAND -- Patricia Gattshall Lockhart, age 58, died Nov. 17, 2004, at her residence in Pawleys Island.

She was born in Sumter, a daughter of Irene Forester Gattshall Baxter and the late Mark Wayne Gattshall. She was a graduate of Edmunds High School and a graduate of Columbia College. She retired as a flight attendant from Delta Airlines after 23 years of service and attended All Saints Church, Waccamaw.

Surviving in addition to her mother are three sisters, Judy Gattshall Parker and her husband, G.W., of Summerville, Sally Gattshall Johnson and her husband, Frank, of Charlotte, and Elizabeth "Beth" Gattshall Hawkins and her husband, Clif, of Pawleys Island; two nephews; and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mark Wayne Gattshall.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today at All Saints Church, Waccamaw, with Dr. Frank Holsclaw and the Rev. David Bryant officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sumter cemetery with Dr. Zane Moore officiating.

Memorials may be made to Teach My People, P.O. Box 2081, Pawleys Island, SC 29585 or to the charity of one's choice.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

DIANE L. GRIFFIN

GALESBURG, Ill. -- Diane L. Griffin, 55, of Galesburg, Ill., died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.

Born July 20, 1949, in Galesburg, she was the daughter of Keith and Patricia Kennedy Courson.

Hinchliff-Pearson-West of Galesburg is in charge of arrangements.
