MARGARET R. LAWSON

SUMMERTON -- Margaret Almeta Ragin Lawson, 76, widow of Paul Lawson, died Nov. 19, 2004, at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital, Columbia.

Born June 15, 1928, in the Panola community of Summerton, she was a daughter of Victor Ragin and Maggie Gaymon Ragin. She received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County in Summerton and graduated from Scott's Branch High School. She was a member of Historical Liberty Hill AME Church, serving faithfully in the church nursing ministry, kitchen ministry, senior usher board, Stewardess Board No. 8 (former president), missionary society, June birthday club and gospel choir. She was also a member of the trustee board, courtesy guild, local lay organization and floral club, pastor appreciation committee and willing workers club.

Survivors include seven sons, Simon (Joanne) Lawson of Bronx, N.Y., Paul Lawson, Victor Lawson, Kimbly (Iereasa) Lawson, all of Atlanta, Ga., Edward (Carrie) Lawson of Savannah, Ga., Virgil Lawson of Summerton and Reginald (Allison) Lawson of Orangeburg; three daughters, Earnestine (Henry) Greene of Riverdale, Ga., the Rev. Willistine (Joseph) Lagree of Columbia and Willene (Israel) James of Stone Mountain, Ga.; five sisters, Amanda Ragin of Atlanta, Ga., Lue Ida Oliver of Summerton, Emma Richardson, Delores Casey, Leona Bellinger, all of Baltimore, Md.; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Alonza Green.

A wake service will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Historical Liberty Hill AME Church, 2310 Liberty Hill Road, Summerton, with the Rev. Melvin J. Capers, pastor, officiating, assisting Elder Malachi Duncan, the Rev. Dr. Michael Ross, Elder Roosevelt Boyd and the Rev. Joseph Postell. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

Pallbearers will be stewards, trustees and friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be missionaries, stewardess and friends of the family.

The family will receive friends at her residence, 1252 Hurricane Falls Lane, Summerton.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

JOSEPH REAMES

BISHOPVILLE -- Joseph "Bud" Reames, 53, husband of Georgia Wells Reames, died Nov. 16, 2004, at S.C. 154, St. Charles Road, Bishopville.

Born May 10, 1951, in Lee County, he was a son of Willie Mae Capers Reames of Bishopville and the late Britton Reames Sr. He was educated in the public schools of Lee County and was a 1971 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Elliott. At an early age, he joined New Zion AME Church in Wisacky. After graduation, he moved to New York City, N.Y., where he lived for five years and then returned to South Carolina. He was employed with Kendall's, Reeves Brothers Co. and V.B. Williams Furniture Co. in Sumter.

Survivors include one son, Terrance (Carolyn) Reames of Lynchburg; two stepsons, Charles Wells and Rodney Floyd of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Scarborough of Mayesville; two brothers, James (Shirley) Reames and Hosea Pearson, both of Bishopville; five sisters, Lorine Aaron, Everlyn (Levi) Reames, Carolyn E. Reames, all of Bishopville, Niomi Aaron, Betty (Lucious) Fortune, both of Mayesville; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Britton Reames Jr. and Toney Edward Reames; and one granddaughter, Khadeja Legrant.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Mount Pleasant Middle School, S.C. 527, Elliott, with the Rev. Franklin W. Spears, pastor of New Zion AME Church, presiding, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. McKinley Washington, the Rev. Alfred Bradley, the Rev. Lucious Wilson and the Rev. Daniels.

Burial will be in New Zion AME Church Memorial Gardens, Wisacky.

Pallbearers will be Mount Pleasant High School class of 1971 and friends.

Floral bearers will be Mount Pleasant High School class of 1971 and friends.

The procession will leave at 12:30 p.m. from his home, 34 Hallsway Lane, St. Charles.

The family will receive friends at his home.

Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.

JENNIFER H. MONTERO

COLUMBIA -- Baby Girl Jennifer Hass Montero, four months, died Nov. 21, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Hospital, Columbia.

Born July 19, 2004, in Manning, she was a daughter of Zenaiada Hass Montero.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

HIAWATHA WILLIAMSON

Hiawatha Williamson, 76, husband of Bessie Eaddy Williamson, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Marion County, he was the son of the late Barney David Williamson and the late Eva Jones Williamson. He was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He also served as a Sunday school teacher for the church and the Eastern Star Home for many years. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World Camp No. 19, where he served as chaplain for many years. He was retired from Korn Industries.

Survivors besides his wife of 54 years include two sons, Arthur Wayne Williamson and his wife, Rhonda, of Charlotte and Terry W. Williamson and his wife, Dawn, of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Shirley Osborn and her husband, Frank, of Sumter and Katherine Fogle and her husband, Dwain, of Neeses; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Carlight Williamson of Florence and Otto Williamson of San Diego; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Holley and Tommy Rogers officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and current and former deacons of Northside Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210, or, for breast cancer research, to The Komen Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309.

CAROLYN HAGEN

COLUMBIA -- Memorial service for Carolyn Boykin Hagen, 69, will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. before the service.

Memorials may be made to Harvest Hope Food Bank, Trenholm Road United Methodist Church TV Ministry or John Fling Ministries.

Mrs. Hagen died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Hosea Horace and Tuster Ola Brown Boykin. She was the first honor graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1956, was head surgery nurse at Providence Hospital, worked for Dr. Harry Boatwright for 21 years as a surgical nurse and later for Dr. H.O. Thompson Jr. After retirement, she worked part time at Manor Care for five years.

She loved her family and friends completely, and they in turn had a great love for her.

Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Bill Hagen; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Ginger Hagen of Columbia; daughter, Lenore Hagen of Columbia; brothers, Stephen Boykin of Bamberg and Calvin Boykin of Sumter; sister, Stella Peeples of Sumter; grandchildren, Will Hagen and Denise Bryant, both of Columbia; and great-grandchildren, Stuart Bryant and Peyton Hagen, both of Columbia.

REATHA MAE LAZARE

SUMMERTON -- Reatha Mae Jackson Bookins Burks Lazare, 80, widow of Joe Bookins, Johnnie Burks and Lijah Lazare, died Nov. 22, 2004, at 1135 Hall St., Summerton.

She was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Monticello, Ga.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1135 Hall St., Summerton.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

CATHERINE N. WHITT

Catherine Nunnery Whitt, 81, wife of 61 years of Carl H. Whitt, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at her home.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late James F. Nunnery and the late Rosabel Hinson Nunnery.

Surviving are her husband of Sumter; three sons, Richard L. Whitt of Sumter, Randy Whitt and wife, Robin, of West Columbia and Carl H. Whitt Jr. and wife, Cheryl, of Asheville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Archie, Irvin, James and Ralph Nunnery; a daughter, Brenda Susan Whitt; and a sister, Ruth Nunnery.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. G.W. Harrell officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home, 211 Lawrence St.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

RENSIE BRAYBOY

ALCOLU -- Rensie Brayboy, 88, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born Aug. 9, 1916, in Pamplico, she was a daughter of the late Willie Davis and Amelia Stuckey Davis.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Minnie Mallette, 1045 Springer Road, Alcolu.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

GRACE HAMILTON

PAXVILLE -- Susan Grace Hamilton, 17, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 13, 1987, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Mark LeRoy and Ellen McCarthy Hamilton. She was a student at Phoenix High School, a member of Paxville United Methodist Church, and loved to hunt and fish.

Surviving besides her parents of Paxville are two brothers, Owen and Marshall Hamilton of Paxville; a sister, Eden Hamilton of Paxville; maternal grandmother, Josephine P. McCarthy of Paxville; paternal grandparents, Ray and Susan Hamilton of Sumter; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today in Paxville cemetery with the Rev. Richard Broomall and the Rev. Emily Allen officiating.

Pallbearers will be Raymond McCarthy, Robert McCarthy, Joey Archibald, Joe Klimek, Alan Hamilton and Ricky Ardis.

Memorials may be made to Paxville United Methodist Church, c/o Harold Corbett, 1130 McLeod Road, Manning, SC 29102.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

EMMA MONTGOMERY

Emma Marshall McFadden Montgomery, 106, died Nov. 22, 2004, at Mariner Health of Sumter East.

Born March 2, 1898, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Rebecca Howard Marshall.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Tommie L. Montgomery, 2130 Avenue A, Mayesville.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.
