WILLIE E. LAWSON

REMBERT -- Willie Edward Lawson, 51, husband of Delvlyn Mayrant Lawson, died Nov. 14, 2004, at his residence, 5565 Alberta Lane, Rembert.

Born Sept. 23, 1953, in Kershaw County, he was a son of Willie Lawson and Rosa Lee Durant Lawson.

The family will receive friends at his home, 5565 Alberta Lane, Rembert.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

JOSEPH H. BUYAN

Joseph Howard Buyan, age 50, husband of nine years to Pamela Ann Harter Buyan, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home.

FREDRICK D. SPEIGHTS

CLINTON, Md. -- Fredrick Deon Speights, 33, husband of Cassandra Speights, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Providence Hospital, Landover, Md.

Born Aug. 26, 1971, in New York City, he was a son of Louise McClam and Donald C. Green.

The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, 612 Louise Lane, Lake City.

Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home of Lake City.

DOUGLAS THOMAS

LEXINGTON -- Douglas Stephen Thomas was killed in Iraq on November 10. At the time of his death, he was on a one year leave of absence from the S.C. Highway Patrol, working for DynCorp, where he was training Iraqi police. He was killed when a roadside bomb exploded as his convoy was returning to Tikrit, Iraq.

Doug was born in Nassawdox, Va. He married Susan Law Shope of Sumter in 1981. Doug graduated from USC in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. He joined the S.C. Highway Patrol in 1988.

Doug and Susan have raised two wonderful children, Abbie Elizabeth Thomas, 20, and Graham McDonald Thomas, 19. Like their mother and father, they have both chosen careers involving service to others. Abbie is a junior at Clemson University, where she is studying nursing. Graham also attends Clemson University, where he is studying special education. Doug loved his children so much and was so proud of their goals and achievements.

In addition to his wife and two children, Doug is survived by his father, the Rev. Eulice Douglas Thomas and mother, Juanita Cochran Thomas, of Denver, N.C.; sisters, Susan Thomas Smith of Denver, N.C., and Valerie Price of Batesburg-Leesville; and brother, Nathan Cochran Thomas of Charlotte, N.C.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at the family's church, Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington at 2 p.m. Monday, followed by graveside services at Evergreen Memorial Park in Sumter at 4 p.m.

A memorial fund has been set up for the benefit of Doug's children. Donations may be sent to: Douglas Thomas Memorial Fund, c/o S.C. Members First Credit Union, 529 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210.

JOHN A. PARKER

SUMTER -- John Albert Parker, 65, beloved husband of 42 years to Betty Lorine Brazell Parker, died Nov.19, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Roseboro, N.C., a son of the late Salsbury and Annie Willis Parker. He was employed by Builders First Source and loved to fish and enjoyed the mountains. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Freddie Scott and his wife Mitsy of Sumter, Allen Parker and his wife Sandra of Sumter, David Parker of Florence and Wendell Parker and his wife Sonia of Sumter; two daughters, Connie Parker Lovelace and her husband Frankie of Sumter and Wanda Parker Bond and her husband James of Sumter; three brothers, Street Parker, Clayton Parker and Larry Parker, all of Roseboro, N.C.; one sister, Annie Mae Parker Ellis and her husband Jimmy of Smithtown, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tony and a brother, Thomas.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Builders First Source.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home.

Bullock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HAZALTINE B. TURNER

Hazaltine "Hazel" B. Turner, 63, wife of Stubs A. Turner, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Dick Barkley and the late Lois Geddings Barkley. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was retired from Glen Manufacturing.

Survivors besides her husband of 45 years include a son, Ronnie A. Turner and his wife, Andria M. Turner; a daughter, Missy R. Ardis and her husband, John H. Ardis; and a granddaughter, Kayla M. Turner, all of Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Albert Sims, the Rev. Dale Turner and the Rev. Keith Burgess officiating.

Burial will be in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

JENNIFER H. MONTERO

COLUMBIA -- Baby Girl Jennifer Haas Montero, 4 months, died Nov. 21, 2004, at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia.

Born July 19, 2004, in Manning, she was a daughter of Zenaida Haas Montero and foster daughter of Warren and Beverly Chrisman.

Survivors besides her mother of Manning and foster parents of Blythewood include maternal grandparents, Dulce ma Montero and Tomas Haas of Veracruz, Mexico; maternal great-grandparents, Roberto and Ofelia Montero of Veracruz and Emilio and Florencia Haas of Campeche, Mexico; two brothers, Jesus Alexander Haas Montero of Chiapas, Mexico, and Jeffrey Jair Haas Montero of Manning; one sister, Kenia itzel Haas Montero of Chiapas, Mexico.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning. Father Carlos, pastor of St. Jude Catholic Church in Sumter, will officiate.

Burial will be in Manning cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES E. WINDHAM

James E. Windham, husband of Bella Windham, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Services will be announced by the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter.

MARY S. SIGMON

Mary Patricia Scott Sigmon, 60, wife of Kenneth David Sigmon Sr., died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Charles Pinkney Scott Sr. and the late Rosa Lee Dennis Scott. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church and was employed by DHEC as a home medical assistant.

Patricia was a devoted and loving wife to Ken. She was a loving, generous and kind sister, aunt and great-aunt. She was admired and loved by all who knew her. Patricia wanted her loving and devoted niece, Susan Gregory, to know how much she and her husband, Ken, appreciated everything that she did for them during her battle with cancer. Susan was always there willing to lend a helping hand and doing everything for them. She had a great appreciation for flowers and spent many happy hours working with her plants and flowers. She had so much love for animals and cared for many homeless ones. She loved her precious dogs, Peck, Muffin, Polly, Baby, and her talking bird, Sammy. They were her constant companions, always by her side. Patricia's courageous battle against cancer showed incredible courage, determined optimism and a positive attitude that will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew her. We'll miss you "Patsy." You will forever be in our hearts.

Survivors besides her husband include three sisters, Rose Ann Gagne and her husband, Joseph A. Gagne, of Irmo, Ruby Corbett of Sumter and Ruth Sessions of Georgia.; three brothers, Charles P. Scott Jr. and his wife, Paula, and Jimmie Scott and his wife, Jean, all of Sumter, and Richard K. Scott of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Ellen Barker, and four brothers, Carl Scott, John Scott, George Scott and Cecil Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Rivers and the Rev. Andrew Basham officiating.

Burial will be in the Sumter cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jamey Truesdale, Ronnie Gregory, Pete Brown, Frank Sims, Henry Byrd, Jeffrey Timmons, Mel Cook and David Byrd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Philip Brandt and Dr. Billy Clowney.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Susan and Ronnie Gregory, 1828 Millwood Road.

Memorials may be made to the S.P.C.A., 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 or New Salem Baptist Church, 2500 W. Oakland Ave., Sumter, SC 29150.

FREDRICK GREEN

MANNING -- Fredrick Green, 26, husband of Temera Moore Green, died Nov. 23, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born May 21, 1978, in Manning, he was a son of Martha Green and McArthur Samuels.

The family will receive friends at the residence, Manning Lane Apartments No. 12, Manning.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

MARY J. BIERING

CHARLESTON -- Mary J. Biering, 84, of Eutawville, formerly of Charleston, the widow of Julian Biering Sr., died on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born May 12, 1920, in Charleston, Mrs. Biering was the daughter of the late Ballard P. Jessee and Mary O'Brien Jessee. Mary was a loving person, who was loved by all that knew her.

She will be deeply missed by her two sons, Julian Biering Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Holly Hill and Stephen P. Biering Sr. and his wife, Aletha, of Sumter; a daughter, Alberta B. Poole of Florence; an aunt, Rita Rourk of Charleston; a dear nephew, Larry R. Hyer of Miami, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Julian, Sr.; daughter, Mary Biering Weaver; two sisters and two great-grandchildren.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. John's Catholic Church, 3921 St. John's Ave., North Charleston. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross cemetery, 604 Ft. Johnson Road, James Island.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 250, Santee, SC 29412.

McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St., is serving the Biering family.

REVEREND JOHN E. ADGER

The Rev. John Earl Adger, 51, husband of Juanita McCants Adger, died Nov. 25, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born July 23, 1953, Mr. Adler was the son of Elizabeth Ludd Adger and the late Sylvester Adger.

Family will receive friends at the residence, 126 Lawson St. in Sumter.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary, Inc. at 312 S. Main St. in Sumter.
