KENDRA MCFADDEN GOSS

LAKE CITY -- Mrs. Kendra McFadden Goss, 25, wife of Drain Goss, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at 1331 Olanta Hwy. in Lake City.

Born in Florence County on Dec. 30, 1978, she was the daughter of Jannie McFadden of Lake City.

The family will receive friends at the home of her mother, 1331 Olanta Hwy. Apt. 4, in Lake City.

Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home of Lake City.

PLACEDA HICKMON

Placeda Fannie Mae Pack Hickmon, 47, died at Tuomey Regional Medical Center on Nov. 25, 2004.

Born April 6, 1957, in Clarendon County, Ms. Hickmon was the daughter of the Winnie Pack and the late Leroy Pack.

Family will receive friends at the residence, 50 Wilder St. in Sumter.

Services are incomplete and will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St.

EMMA M. MCFADDEN

Emma Marshall Montgomery McFadden, 106, died Nov. 22, 2004, at Mariner Health Care Center East .

Born March 2, 1898, in Mayesville, Mrs. McFadden was the daughter of the late Henry and Rebecca Howard Marshall.

Mrs. McFadden grew up in the Backer-Weinberg Place/Blue Eye Weinberg Place, an area three miles away from Mayesville. Her family's Christian life originated at Beulah AME Church on S.C 76. During her young adult life, she joined Galilee Baptist Church, where she served diligently until her health declined. Emma met and married Tony Montgomery. After Tony died, she married the late Richard McFadden.

Survivors include four children, Viola Wilson, Sammie Montgomery, Josephine Green and Tommy Lee Montgomery; three grandchildren reared in the home, Azalee Montgomery-Lee, Evelyn Montgomery and Tommy L. Montgomery Jr.; 28 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren; four daughters-in-law, Jannie, Essie Lee, Luctricia and Hattie; one son-in-law, Alonza Sr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two children, Alphonso Montgomery Sr. and Joe Louis Montgomery; seven brothers, James, Willie, Sammie, Johnny, Abraham, Henry and Jeremiah; six sisters, Josephine, Elsie, Mary Ellen, Viola, Carrie and Lillie; and one son-in-law, Cecil.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 27, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Galilee Baptist Church in Mayesville. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. The Rev. Eugene Myers, pastor, will be officiating. Burial will take place at Mayesville cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home of her son Tommie L. Montgomery, 2130 Avenue A, Mayesville.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., is in charge of the arrangements.

JAMES M. EDENS JR.

James Mitchell Edens Jr., age 80, husband of the late Catholeen Hinson Edens, died on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at William Jennings Bryan Dorn's Veteran Hospital in Columbia.

He was a son of the late James Mitchell Edens Sr. and Rosalie Rembert Edens and was born in Sumter County and attended Clemson College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in both France and Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a Technician four, who while serving with the Army of The United States distinguished himself by heroism on Sept. 16, 1944. During an engagement with the enemy, several men were wounded. Because of mortar, small arms and machine gun fire, it was impossible to evacuate the wounded men. Tech 4 Edens and another enlisted man volunteered to drive a vehicle across an open field to evacuate the wounded. As no Red Cross flag was available, having been destroyed by enemy fire, Tech 4 Edens displayed his helmet with the Red Cross marking. Despite the fact that the Red Cross was displayed on the vehicle, they were fired on as they approached the wounded men. Proceeding with their job and disregarding the enemy fire, Tech 4 Edens made it possible to evacuate the wounded men to safety. Tech 4 Edens' courage and devotion to duty reflected the highest credit on his character as a solider and upon his military service. It was at this time when he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.

He was a master farmer, a cotton ginner, who upon returning from World War II entered the farming business with his father. He and his father established J.M. Edens & Son Cotton Gin, which he operated until his retirement. He was the first to introduce Herford Cattle to Sumter County and was a lifelong resident of Dalzell. He was a member of the Elks Lodge PBOE No. 855, the American Legion, the Dalzell Grange and the DAV. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and received "The Resident of the Year" award at Alterra Sterling House. He was a member of the Tirzah Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Cathy Edens Rabon and her husband, Grover "Bubba" Rabon III, of Sumter, Becky Edens Owens and her husband, the Rev. Charles E. Owens of Bluffton, and Dorothy Edens McKeown and her husband, John, of Dalzell; two sisters, Emma Edens Christie and Francis Edens McIntosh, both of Sumter; five grandchildren, Dr. Grover Edens "Gee" Rabon and his wife, Gina, Dr. Catherine E. "Caetie" Rabon and her husband, Marty Martin, Charles E. "Chuck" Owens IV and his wife, Margaret, Rebecca Owens Hamilton and her husband, James, and Boyd Edens McKowen; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Mitchell Edens III, and a grandson, James Ezell Rabon.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at the Tirzah Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Charles E. Owens III officiating. Burial will follow in the Tirzah Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Hank Edens, Charles Edens, Mark Edens, John Henry Hatfield, T. Polk Sanders and Charles McLaughlin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fred McLaughlin, Elbert Davis, Wilsie Brabham, Cecil Thomas, Tommy Laney, Bobby Sigley, Julius Davis III, Ervin Ross, Thomas Sansbury and residents of Sterling House.

The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to The Thomas Sumter Academy Building Fund, 5265 Camden Highway, Rembert, SC.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

FREDERICK L. GREEN

MANNING -- Frederick Lamont Green, 26, husband of Tamera Moore Green, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born on May 21, 1978, in Manning, Mr. Green was the son of McArthur Samuels and Martha Green. In his youth, Mr. Green attended Sunday School and worship services at Green Hill Missionary Baptist in Alcolu. A 1995 graduate of Manning High School, he played basketball and football. Mr. Green served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors beside wife and parents include three sons, Frederick L. Green Jr., Taezhon Green, both of Manning, and Naguore Green of Oceanside, Calif.; three daughters, Tylisha Green and Moesha Morant both of Manning and Zhanella Green of Oceanside, Calif.; two brothers, Kelvin Green and McArthur Samuels Jr. both of Manning; one sister, Natalie Green of Manning; and five stepchildren.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel on 114 N. Church St. in Manning. The Rev. W.J. Frierson will be officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Kay D. Frierson.

Burial will be in Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Alcolu. The family will receive friends at the home of his parents at Manning Lanes Apartment 12.

Samuels Funeral Home, LLC of Manning is in charge of the arrangements.

JAMES E. WINDHAM

James Eugene Windham, husband of Bella Windham, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was a son of the late John C. Windham and the late Elizabeth Kolb Windham. Mr. Windham was a retired painter.

Surviving are his wife of Staten Island, N.Y., two sons, John L. Windham of Staten Island and Roy Windham of Long Island, N.Y.; a daughter, Celia Moustkas of Pittsfield, Mass.; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Elder James O. Pate officiating.

Burial will be in the Sumter cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 83 Lakeshore Drive.

BEULAH J. CROMER

Beulah Jackson Cromer, 88, widow of William Lawrence Cromer, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Marlboro County, she was a daughter of the late Albert J. Jackson and the late Hattie Odom Jackson. Mrs. Cromer was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the Faith Sunday School class. She was also a member of Beuclare Chapter No. 20 Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are two sons, William Lawrence Cromer Jr. and wife, Earline, of Sumter and Jerry Eugene Cromer Sr. of Sumter; four grandchildren, Jerry Cromer, Larry Cromer, Perron Cromer and wife, Nancy, Patrick Cromer and wife, Melissa; six great-grandchildren, Justin Cromer, Austin Cromer, Nancy Hayes Cromer, Virginia Cromer, Perrin Marie Cromer and Rebecca Cromer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Madie J. Glasscock and Alfie J. Rodgers; two brothers, Herbert Jackson and Benjamin Jackson; and a daughter-in-law, Billie Faye Hayes Cromer.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler and the Rev. Ron Bower officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Perron Cromer, 10 Pathfinder Drive.

RALPH R. LONG

LAKE CITY -- Ralph Rudolph "Rudy" Long, 78, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, in the Kingstree Nursing Facility, after an illness.

Mr. Long was born in Little River, a son of the late Obbie and Amanda Smith Long. He was a graduate of Wampee High School and a self-employed wholesale meat businessman. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge of North Myrtle Beach and an avid "retired" fisherman. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Adele Graham Long of Lake City; one son, Jimmy (Brenda) Long of Lake City; one daughter, Becky L. (Rick) Spivey of Simpsonville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Graham cemetery, Cades.

Memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 217 Dozier Blvd., Suite 201, Florence, SC 29501.

The family will receive friends at home, 5 Mill Dam Road, Lake City, SC 29560.

Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City, is in charge.

LOUISE OAKS

Louise Oaks, 89, widow of Theodore Oaks, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born March 7, 1915, in Dalzell, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Hattie Knox Jackson.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 26 Rast St., Apt. 6.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Sumter Funeral Service Inc.

RENSIE BRAYBOY

ALCOLU -- Rensie Davis Brayboy, daughter of the late Willie Davis and Amelia Stuckey Davis was born on Aug. 9, 1916, in the Pamplico section of Flourence County. One son, William "Jim" Brayboy, six sisters and six brothers preceded her in death.

She received her formal education in the public school system of Florence County.

In her youth, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined St. Luke A.M.E. Church in Kingsburg. Later, she joined the Hickory Grove Freewill Baptist Church, Turbeville, where she was a member of the Gospel Choir and Missionary Board, where she remained faithful until her health failed. She was also a member of the Home Reform Society Lodge in Lynchburg.

On Monday afternoon, Nov. 22, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning, God saw the suffering of His servant, came down into her room, stretched forth His hand and said "Rensie, it's time to go home."

Those who remain to cherish her memories and carry on her legacy are: six loving daughters, Shirley Lancaster, Rensie Wells and Evangelist Mary Adams, all of New Zion, Hattie McFadden of Sumter, Laura (George) Frierson of Gable, and Minnie (Phillip) Mallette of the home; two devoted sons, Charles (Julie) Brayboy of Dillon and Terry (Barbara) Davis of Indianapolis, Ind.; one adopted brother, Willie Joe Wilson of Lake City; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Hickory Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Turbeville. The remains will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m.

Officiating ministers include Elder Zander Davis, pastor, officiating assisted by Evangelist Ethel Davis, the Rev. Lucious Wheeler, the Rev. Johnnie W. McFadden, the Rev. Jerial Dingle, Evangelist Mary Adams, Minister Natasha Wilson and Pastor Veronica White.

Burial will be in the church yard cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Minnie Mallette, 1045 Springer Road in Alcolu.

The funeral home in charge of the arrangements is Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
