JAMES P. JACKSON

MANNING -- James P. "Jim" Jackson, 82, widower of Lois Spigner Jackson, died Nov. 30, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Julius Jennings "J.J." Jackson and the late Florence Barefoot Jackson. He was a member of Santee Baptist Church and was retired from Jones Chevrolet.

Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Sacco and her husband, Frank, of Kelayres, Pa.; two granddaughters, Lori Marchetti and her husband, Rob, of Bel Air, Md., and Amanda Sacco of Kelayres; a brother, Van Hugh "Buck" Jackson and his wife, Jenny, of Sumter; and a sister, Doris Gardner and her husband, Son, of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Alton Jackson, Leon Jackson and Wilbur Jackson; and two sisters, Gertrude Harris and Ora Tisdale.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Eldreth officiating.

Pallbearers will be nephews; Van Hugh Jackson, Michael Van Jackson, Julius Jackson, Joseph Jackson and Bill Cummins; and grandson-in-law, Rob Marchetti.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of his brother, 2755 Widgeon Way.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.

JOHN R. BLACKWELL

John Richard Blackwell, 50, husband of Azalee Billups Blackwell, passed away suddenly on Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born July 12, 1954, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the Rev. Russell Blackwell Sr. and the late Dorothy Tarleton Blackwell. John attended Manning Training School and graduated from Manning High School in 1972. In 1976, he received a bachelor of arts degree in art education from Benedict College in Columbia. He graduated in 1989 from the State University of New York in New Paltz with a master of science degree in art education.

He taught in the Bronx and in upper Westchester County, N.Y., before moving back to Manning to continue his teaching career.

For the past 14 years, John had been a teacher, friend and mentor to hundreds of students in District 2 and District 17 in Sumter and in Clarendon School District 1 in Summerton. He loved working with young people, helping them to develop their artistic skills and inspiring them to pursue careers in the arts.

John loved working with clay, giving live drawing demonstrations and drawing portraits. He had a talent for capturing human faces from memory and introduced his students to important concepts in drawing. John got just as much pleasure from helping his students to shine as he did from exhibiting his own work. He cared deeply about his students at Lakewood High School. He approached his art, his work and those around him with patience, a sense of humor, a helping hand and a warm heart.

John was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church from a very early age.

Survivors include one daughter, Amber Noel Blackwell; his wife, Azalee Blackwell; his father, the Rev. Russell Blackwell Sr.; two brothers, Russell (Susie) Blackwell Jr. and Tarleton Blackwell; three sisters, Sandra Blackwell, Carolyn (Ike) Coleman and Georgette (William) Jones; one aunt, Annabelle Blackwell; and one uncle, John Edward Way.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. today.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today from the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 105 Dinkins St., Manning, with the Rev. George P. Windley Sr., pastor, eulogist.

Burial will be in Manning cemetery, Manning.

Pallbearers will be Manning High School Class of 1972.

Floral bearers will be Manning High School Class of 1972.

The procession will leave at 2:20 p.m. from the home of his brother, Tarleton Blackwell, 7500 Sumter Hwy., Alcolu.

The family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Tarleton Blackwell.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Lakewood High School, 350 Old Manning Road (off U.S. 15 S.), Sumter.

Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

NORBERT C. RUBIN

MANNING -- Norbert Carl Rubin, 95, widower of Helen Ann Rubin, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at his residence in Manning.

Born Dec. 3, 1908, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late John Peter and Anna Pample Rubin. He was a retired mechanical engineer, a member of the Presbyterian Church at Manning and a Mason.

Surviving are two sons, John Regan of Manning and Howard W. Rubin of Kentwood, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Presbyterian Church at Manning with the Rev. Dr. William J. Holmes officiating.

Memorials may be made to Harvin Clarendon County Library, 215 N. Brooks St., Manning, SC 29102.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

ROBINA CABBAGESTALK

Robina Cabbagestalk, 89, widow of Paul Cabbagestalk, died Nov. 29, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born July 11, 1915, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Dixon and Eliza Davis Dixon.

The family will receive friends at her home, 1040 Porter St.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

ROSA M. HARRINGTON

Rosa M. Harrington, 63, wife of the Rev. Freddie L. Harrington, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at her home.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late David and Eva Byrd Hasty.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Word of Life Christian Center Ministries, Bennettsville, with interment to follow in Word of Life Memorial Garden, Bennettsville.

The family will receive friends at 2750 N. Main St., Sumter.

Morris Funeral Home of Bennettsville is in charge of arrangements.

EDDIE DEES Jr.

Eddie Dees Jr., 73, widower of Mammie Davis Dees, died Dec. 1, 2004, at his residence, 14 Harfield St.

Born Nov. 13, 1931, in Sumter, he was a son of Eddie Dees Sr. and Lillie Frierson Dees.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Ruthie Williams, 328 Wright St.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

ALICE G. JUNIOUS

Dyson's Home for Funerals and Mt. Pleasant UME Church, Panola, along with the Rev. James Robinson, pastor, announce funeral services for the late Alice Green Junious will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Pleasant UME Church. The Rev. James Robinson, pastor, will officiate. Final resting place will be Brown cemetery, Panola.

Alice Green Junious, age 66, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born on July 4, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Camilla Thomas Green and the wife of Alex "Sonny" Junious. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in the Panola community, where she served faithful as a member.

She is preceded in death by eight siblings, Mary Ann Green, Naomi Brow, Mary Dow, Lila Briggs, William Green, Jimmy Green, Henry Green and Ernest Green; and one daughter, Camilla Junious.

Those who remain to grow from her love include a loving husband, Alex "Sonny" Junious of the home; a daughter, Rebecca (Charles Jerome) Belle of Summerton; five sons, Elliott (Carolyn) Junious of Sumter, Leroy and Johnny Lee Junious, both of the home, the Rev. Thomas (Ruth) Junious and Nathaniel (Denise) Junious, both of Summerton; a brother, James (Mary) Green of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Rosa (Henry) Belser of Summerton, Margaret Taylor of Wilmington, N.C., and Lila Mae Watson of New York City; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a special niece and nephew she help raise, Bessie Green of Philadelphia, Pa., and James Briggs Jr. of Columbia; and a host of other close relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 2159 Lilly Martin Road, "River Road Community, " Summerton.

PLACEDA HICKMON

Placeda Fannie Mae "Sute" Pack Hickmon, 47, wife of David Lee Hickmon, died Nov. 25, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born April 6, 1957, in Lee County, she was the daughter of Winnie Weeks Pack and the late Leroy Pack. Mrs. Hickmon was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, Mayesville. For 13 years, she was employed by Gold Kist.

Survivors besides her husband and mother include two daughters, Johnnie Mae (John) Ross of Baltimore, Md., and Sylvia Witherspoon of the home; one sister, Elease (Solomon) McBride of Manning; five brothers, Abe (Mary) Weeks of Wilmington, Del., Eddie Lee Pack of Mayesville, James Edward (Daisy Mae) Pack of Baltimore, Md., Willard Pack and Roosevelt (Ella Mae) Pack, both of Sumter; four grandchildren, Desmond, Adrienne, Justice and April; seven sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence Weeks, Lindsay, Richard and Harrison Pack; and one sister, Ruthie Lee McBride.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Galilee Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Myers, pastor, assisted by Pastor Leon Winn.

Burial will be in Mayesville cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 50 Wilder St.

ELSIE RICHARDSON

SUMMERTON -- Elsie Blanding Walters Richardson, 97, widow of Brutus Walter and Andrew Richardson, died Dec. 1, 2004, at Windsor Manor, Silver.

Born April 8, 1907, in Summerton, Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Blanding and Harriett Nelson Blanding.

The family will receive friends at the home of her granddaughter, Carolet L. (Edward) Richardson Thomas, 3196 Wash Davis Road, Summerton.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

MANNING -- Norbert Carl Rubin, 95, widower of Helen Ann Stockli Rubin, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at his residence in Manning.

Born Dec. 3, 1908, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late John Peter and Anna Pample Rubin. He was a retired mechanical engineer, a member of the Presbyterian Church at Manning and a Mason. Mr. Rubin served on the Strategic Arms Limitations Treaty (S.A.L.T.) Team under Henry Kissinger and worked extensively with the S.C. State Board of Mental Retardation and the S.C. Literacy Program.

Surviving are two sons, John Regan of Manning and Howard W. Rubin of Kentwood, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Presbyterian Church at Manning with the Rev. Dr. William J. Holmes officiating.

Memorials may be made to Harvin Clarendon County Library, 215 N. Brooks St., Manning, SC 29102.
