ALICE G. WALKER

NEWBERRY -- Alice Geddings Walker, 62, of 277 Fairway Drive, Newberry, wife of William D. Walker, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at her residence.

Mrs. Walker was born on Oct. 6, 1942, in Clarendon County, a daughter of the late George Geddings and Patunia Hodge Geddings Dubose. She was former owner and operator of Alice's Cake and Party Supply Co. in Sumter and she was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Sumter. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and participating with her husband in Shrine activities and square dancing with the Village Squares in Kinards.

Mrs. Walker is survived by her husband of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Roger Decker of Sumter, Melissa and J.C. Becker of Woodstock, Ga., Amanda and Scott Carroll of Ft. Hood, Texas, and Katrina and Keith Minick of Newberry; two stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Bonnie and Mike Muecke of Sioux City, Iowa, Rachelle and Scott Barto of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Susan Jackson and Ronnie and Lillian Jackson, all of Sumter; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, William and Penny Walker of Sail, Iowa; a sister, Carlotte Howell of Sumter; two brothers, Stanley Dubose and Charles Dubose, both of Sumter; 16 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; seven step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.

She was predeceased by a brother, Wilson Geddings.

Funeral services for Alice G. Walker will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Arden Hallman. Interment will be in the Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home and the family will be at the residence, 277 Fairway Drive.

JONATHAN G. GREGG

BISHOPVILLE -- Jonathan George Gregg, 21, died Jan. 31, 2005, on Jamestown Road in Lee County.

Born Sept. 16, 1983, in Lee County, he was a son of Celeyse G. Baker and Johnny L. Holloman. Jonathan was a 2003 graduate of Lee Central High School in Bishopville, where he was an all-conference basketball player during his senior year. He was employed at Standard Corp., formerly Dupont Inc., in Lugoff.

Survivors include his mother, Celeyse G. (Thomas) Baker of Bishopville; his father, Johnny L. Holloman of Newark, N.J.; a grandmother, Mae Ella Myers; a fiancee, Latoya Stuckey; one son, Taveyon M. Stuckey of the home; three brothers, Jamel Gregg and Gy'Monie McCall, both of Bishopville, and Broddrick Johnson of Concord, N.C.; four sisters, Tericka, Jillesha and Shakille Gregg, all of Bishopville, and Sabrista Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; and a best friend, Lee Wiley.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Alberta Gregg; a grandmother, Martha D. Holloman; and one aunt, Dessie Ann Simon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Lee Central High School, Bishopville.

The remains will be placed in the school at 1 p.m.

Burial will be in EL-Pac cemetery (Boone Memorial Garden), Bishopville.

Wilson's Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

HYDRICK W. ARDIS

HOLLY HILL -- Hydrick Wayne Ardis Sr., 82, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at his home. Funeral services will be announced by the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory.

JOHNNIE J. BEVERLY

CONWAY -- Johnnie Jean Beverly, age 65, wife of the late Richard Donald Beverly died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Conway Medical Center following an illness.

Mrs. Beverly was born in Conway, a daughter of the late John Calhoun and Cecil Allen Singleton. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Conway. Mrs. Beverly was a devoted mother and grandmother, loving sister and devout Christian. She was predeceased by one brother, J.C. Singleton.

Surviving are one son, Ritchie Beverly and his wife, Tina, of Conway; one daughter Donna B. James and her husband, Kevin, of Conway; four grandchildren, Jordy Lee and Cecilia Christine Beverly, Beverly Jean James, and Kevin McKeaver "Mac" James; one sister, Fadean S. Tumbleston and her husband, Roy, of Sumter; a special brother in law and sister in law, Jim and Gwen B. Mishoe of Conway; and many special nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today from Lakeside cemetery with the Rev. Rocky Taylor officiating. Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church Family Life Center Building Fund, 603 Elm St., Conway, SC 29526.

Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

THELMA M. FREDERICK

MANNING -- Thelma May Frederick, age 92, died on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Windsor Manor Nursing Home in Manning.

Services are incomplete and will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home.

DOZELL M. McFADDEN

VICTORVILLE, Calif. -- Dozell Mitchell McFadden, 7, died Jan. 27, 2005, in Victorville, Calif.

Born Nov. 23, 1996, in Seattle, Wash., he was the son of Mr. Steward Mitchell McFadden and Mrs. Latrice V. McFadden.

He attended the Little Red Roof Pre-school in Washington and graduated from Westside Park Elementary Kindergarten in Adelanto, Calif. Upon his passing, he was a student at Eagle Ranch Elementary School in Victorville, Calif.

Survivors includ his parents; his paternal grandparents, Mr. Henry and Virginia McFadden of Manning; his maternal grandparents, Mr. Tommy and Kathy Pope of San Diego, Calif.; his brother, Damian McFadden of Manning; his sisters, Jayonte, Diana and Jena Marie.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Fleming & DeLaine Chapel on Boyce Street in Manning. The Rev. Henry Presley will be officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zero Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will recieve friends at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Virginia McFadden at 115 Gregory Street in Manning.

Fleming & DeLaine Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of services.

DORIS R. TAYLOR

Doris Elaine Rogers Taylor, age 79, beloved wife of 58 years to David E. Taylor, died on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was born on April 28, 1925, in Georgetown, Del., a daughter of the late Edward Rogers and Bertie Ellingsworth Rogers. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are: One son, David Taylor, of Kokomo, Ind.; one daughter, Stephanie Taylor Newman of Sumter; three grandchildren, Jennifer L. McLeod and Leigh Bruce, both of Sumter, and Christopher O. Taylor of Kokomo, Ind.; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey L. Newman, Matthew B. Bruce and Dylan K. McLeod, all of Sumter; one sister, Marguerite Hill of Delaware; and one brother, "Snookie" Rogers of Delaware.

An informal memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

ROBERT B. KINNE Sr.

ST. STEPHEN -- Robert Blaine Kinne Sr., 78, husband of Mary Jo Chapman Kinne, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born Sept. 28, 1926, in Binghamton, N.Y., he was a son of Sanford and Cornelia Faulkner Kinne. He was a systems analyst for Santee-Cooper, a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Harristown Road Baptist Church in St. Stephen.

He is survived by his wife of St. Stephen; a son, Robert B. Kinne Jr. of Charleston; two stepdaughters, Frances Broadway and husband, Charlie, of Paxville and Jo C. Spencer and husband, Bill, of Franklin, Tenn.; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today in Paxville cemetery with the Rev. Shannon Rhodes and the Rev. Robert Lape officiating.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

SUSIE MAYE

LEESVILLE -- Susie Maye, 83, of Leesville, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Leesville United Methodist Church with interment in Ridge Crest Memorial Park with the Rev. Dan Bradley officiating. Pallbearers will be David Mims Sr., David Mims Jr., Joseph Maye, Philip Hawkins, Wade Maye, Steve McCaskill, William G. Hill and Allen Mason.

Mrs. Maye was born in Sumter to the late Finely C. and Lida Brown McCaskill. She was a member of Leesville United Methodist Church. She was a library assistant and married to the late William Eugene Maye Sr.

Surviving is her daughter, Suzette Hawkins of Batesburg-Leesvile; a son, William Eugene Maye Jr. of Batesburg-Leesville; brothers Finley L. McCaskill of Sumter, James C. McCaskill of Manning; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn McCaskill Duval.

Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at the home of her daughter, Suzette Hawkins in Batesburg-Leesville. Memorials can be made to Leesville United Methodist Church, care of Building Fund, 510 E. Columbia Ave., Leesville, SC 29070.

JOHN S. SINGLETON

John Sanders Singleton, 68, died at Tuomey Regional Medical Center on Feb. 4, 2005.

Born Jan. 1, 1937, in Sumter County, Mr. Singleton was a son of the late Sanders and Delia Bracey Singleton.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Louise Singleton, 425 McCleary Lane.

Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter.

SARAH D. McCONICO

Sarah Daisy McConico died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, in the Mariner East Health Care. The family is receiving friends at the home of her niece Rosa Lee Herrott at 530 N. Wise Drive.

Plans will be announced by Community Funeral.

IVEY McDOWELL Jr.

Mr. Ivey "Ivan" McDowell Jr., 64, died Feb. 2, 2005, in Rembert.

Born August 12, 1940, in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Ivey McDowell Sr. and Allie Hazelton McDowell.

As a young man, he attended Sumter County public schools where he earned a high school diploma. With his knowledge obtained under his father's guidance, he learned and mastered skills in carpentry, electrical, masonry, plumbing and mechanics. He worked briefly in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., before returning to the Rembert/Sumter area to perfect his craft and skills in building houses, earning him the nickname "The Wood Doctor."

Surviving are three sons, Derryl McDowell of Massachusetts, Wayne McDowell of Atlanta and Trevon Wright of Rembert; a daughter, Cheryl McDowell of Sumter; one brother, John Henry McDowell of Baltimore; a true and dear friend, Pauline "Molly" Wright, the entire Wright family and Paralee McDowell, all of Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rafting Creek Baptist Church in Rembert. The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

The Rev. Charles H. Davis, pastor and eulogist will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Willie Dennis. Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist churchyard cemetery in Rembert.

Pallbearers and floral bearers will be friends of the family.

The procession will leave at 2:30 p.m. from the home, 4300 Spencer Road in Rembert.

ANN G. KERLIN

ALCOLU – Ann Gardner Kerlin, 60, wife of David Lee Kerlin, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Born April 8, 1944, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Ivonell Robinson Gardner and the late Freddie Gardner. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Surviving besides her mother of Sumter and her husband of Alcolu are a son, David S. Kerlin and wife, Diana, of Summerton; a daughter, Terrie K. Scott and husband, Bill, of Granite Falls, N.C, ; a brother, Robert Gardner of Charleston; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charlie Brookshire officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 12473 Plowden Mill Road, Alcolu.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
