NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Nathaniel Pearson Jr., 72, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in New York, N.Y.

Born Feb. 22, 1932, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Nathaniel Pearson Sr. and Martha McGhainey Pearson.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Mable Pearson Goodine Bennett, 14 Harvin Ave., Manning, SC 29102.

Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of services.

ETHEL S. LEE

Ethel Marie Simpson Lee, 68, widow of Rufus Edward Lee, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at a local nursing center.

Born in Richland County, she was the daughter of the late Horace T. Simpson and the late Onieda Campbell Simpson. Mrs. Lee was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene and retired from Campbell Soup Co.

Surviving are three sons, Frederick Marion Lee and wife, Terry, of Sumter, H. Preston Lee and wife, Kathy, of Florence and Richard Edward Lee of Sumter; three brothers, Jack Ervin Simpson of Lexington, Wayne Andrew Simpson of Smyrna, Ga., and Gary Lee Simpson of Sumter; three sisters, Sarah Louise Brookshire, Margaret Avins and Dorothy Huggins, all of Sumter; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Red, Robert, Edward and Albert; and one sister, Abbie.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Williams and the Rev. G.W. Harrell officiating.

Burial will follow in the Calvary Church of the Nazarene cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 3775 Lorene Drive.

Memorials may be made to the Calvary Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 4235 Nazarene Church Road, Sumter, SC 29154.

HOMER H. BOONE

MOUNT DORA, Fla. -- Homer Howard Boone, 84, of Mount Dora, Fla., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1920, in Erwin, Tenn., to Mont Boone and Estella (McMahan) Boone. Homer proudly served his country while in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 26 years of service. He moved to Mount Dora from Waynesville, N.C., in 2001. Homer was a former deacon of the Barberville Baptist Church in Waynesville. He also was a member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Boone of Mount Dora; his three daughters, Carolyn Bell of Raleigh, N.C., Gwen Luton of Del Valle, Texas, and Evelyn Mullis of Pelion; his brother, Edwin Boone of Winston-Salem, N.C.; his sister, Ava Reese of Johnson City, Tenn.; his five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Homer's memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

Visitation is 10 a.m. until noon today at Allen J. Harden Funeral Home, Mount Dora.

Funeral service is at noon today in the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Carey officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Pine Forest cemetery, Mount Dora.

DEBORAH D. HAIR

Deborah "Debbie" Dawson Hair, 54, widow of Thomas Gene Hair, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at her home.

Born in Charleston, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late George Robert Dawson and the late Betty Ann Davidson Dawson.

Survivors include three children, Deborah Scarborough and David Bruce Brunson Jr., both of Sumter, and Betty Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Mary Wadford and the Rev. Jim Tuggle officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to New Testament Lighthouse Church, c/o Karen Reece, 5845 Dowry Road, Wedgefield, SC 29168.

MARJORIE B. McCASKILL

BISHOPVILLE -- Funeral services for Marjorie Barnes McCaskill, age 92, widow of Willie Duncan McCaskill, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday from St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery and directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville Chapel.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCaskill was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late William Duncan and Mary Jane Smith Barnes. She was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Billy Tomlinson of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Meredith Tomlinson of Rock Hill and Zan (Mary Adele) Tomlinson of Lynchburg.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Claude, Cary and W.D. Barnes; and one sister, Riva Lee Kelley.

Memorials may be made to the St. Matthews United Methodist Church, c/o Celeste Outlaw, 2314 Bethune Highway, Bishopville, SC 29010, or McLeod Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 East Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.

JAMES MAGAZINE

James "Sonny" Magazine, 69, husband of Adell Ellison Magazine of Columbia, died Feb. 4, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born Sept. 25, 1935, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Magazine and Bessie Albert Magazine. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He served in the U.S. Army for 10 years. After he completed his tour of duty, he moved to Hackensack, N.J., where he retired from Pfizer Pharmaceutical Co. after 15 years of employment. He then relocated to Myrtle Beach and later to Sumter, where he worked as a SLED officer. He also worked as a security officer in Sumter and Columbia, until his health failed him.

Survivors include two sons, Walter and Marvin Magazine of Columbia; one daughter, Denise Ford of Columbia; two stepchildren, Whitney and Terrell Magazine of Columbia; five brothers, Lucious Burns of Sumter, Robert and Roosevelt Lawson, both of Ohio, John Lewis of New Jersey and Thomas Coleman of Louisiana; seven sisters, Rebecca Johnson, Doretha McGee, Ida Davis, Maggie Harvin, all of Sumter, Ulla Bethea of Charleston, Parlee Lewis and Dorothy Tanner, both of Ohio; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Kizer Harvin Jr., pastor of Walker Avenue Church of God, officiating, eulogist, assisted by Minister Sherry Harvin and Minister Maggie Richardson.

Burial will be in New Covenant Presbyterian Church cemetery, Sumter.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Floral bearers will be family and friends.

The procession will leave at 2:30 p.m. from the home of his sister, Rebecca Johnson, 50 Melton Road, Sumter.

PAUL BOONE Jr.

Paul Boone Jr., 67, died Feb. 8, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born April 17, 1937, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Paul Boone Sr. and Mable Myers Boone.

The family will receive friends at his home, 3033 Prosser St., Sumter.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

HAROLD LEVY

BRONX, N.Y. -- Harold Levy, 53, died Feb. 8, 2005, at Bronx Lebanon Hospital.

Born June 9, 1951, in Sumter, he was a son of the late David and Maggie Brunson Levy.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Cynthia Levy (Smiley) Myers, 27 Shuler Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

LIZZIE MAE W. ADDISON

ALCOLU -- Lizzie Mae Woods Addison, 84, widow of Clifford Addison, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born April 25, 1920, in the Olanta section of Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Woods and Julia Rush Woods Rush and stepdaughter of the late Dozier Rush. She received her formal education in the public schools of Florence County in Olanta. At an early age, she became a member of the Jordan Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Olanta, where she served on the usher board and was a longtime Eastern Star. She later moved to Miami, Fla., where she became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, serving as president of the pastor's aide board. After retiring and moving to Alcolu to reside with her niece, she joined Mount Nebo Baptist Church, serving two years as president of the pastor's aide board.

Survivors include one sister, Annie Lou Smith of Columbia; three grandchildren, Sonya, Tammy and Frank, all of Miami, Fla.; a special niece, Dorothy Evins of Alcolu; a close friend, Elaine Elliott of Manning; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Maggie Lee Woods; and two brothers, McSwain Woods and Daniel Woods.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Friday.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Plowden Mill Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. Dennis C. Brock, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of her niece, Dorothy W. Evins, 5836 Brogdon Road, Westminister community of Alcolu.

ROSE H. JONES

Rose Herrington Jones, 71, widow of John R. Jones, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Waynesboro, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Henry Claudus Herrington and the late Clyde Clifton Herrington. Mrs. Jones was a member of Bible Fellowship Church and was a retired registered nurse with Tuomey Hospital.

Surviving are a son, John R. "Jack" Jones III and wife, Cornelia, of Sumter; a daughter, Harriet J. Barrineau of Sumter; a brother, Carol L. Herrington of Waynesboro, Ga; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Jones of Sumter; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Haynsworth Jones, and a brother, James Herrington.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Jack Whitehead officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

BARBARA H. BROOKER

LONE TREE, Colo. -- Barbara Lynn Helmer Brooker, 54, of Lone Tree, Colo., died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Lucius C. Brooker; daughter, Lauren Brooker; and son, Ben Brooker. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Helmer (Frank) Boggs of Duluth, Ga.; and brother, Albert James (Stephanie) Helmer Jr. of Corydon, Ind.

Born in Sheboygan, Wis., she was the daughter of the late Albert James Helmer Sr. and Adela Theresa Galousek Helmer. Barbara began her career as an art teacher in Kentucky, South Carolina and Colorado. She worked for Merrill Lynch and was currently employed as an analyst at Jackson National Life.

Visitation was held Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Littleton, CO 80121.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Heart Association, 1280 S. Parker Road, Denver, CO 80231.
