ROGER D. GOODMAN

ATLANTA -- Roger D. Goodman, 45, died Feb. 13, 2005, at Piedmont Hospital.

Born Sept. 7, 1959, in Florence County, he was a son of H. Ree McCray and the late Raymond Goodman Sr. and the adopted son of the late Thomas and Thelma Goodman. With strong family and Christian ties to Asbury United Methodist Church, Roger became a lifelong member during his early youth years. As a teen, Roger served faithfully as a member of the youth choir and junior usher board. He also held any number of youth leadership positions in many capacities including, but not limited to, junior usher board vice president and president.

Roger was educated in the public schools of Sumter School District 2, Sumter County. He attended Mayewood Elementary, Eastern Middle and Mayewood High schools. As a high school student, he was a member of many clubs and organizations such as choir, student council, freshman, sophomore, junior and senior class boards, FFA, Spanish club, and the "Valhallan" yearbook staff. Upon graduating high school in 1977, he matriculated at Benedict College, completing a program of study in the area of business administration in 1981. While at Benedict, Roger worked part time at Crafts Farrow State Hospital, Columbia.

Shortly after college, Roger left South Carolina and journeyed to the Northeast region, where Brooklyn, N.Y., became his final destination. Federal Express duly employed him, and he worked his way from an entry-level operations position to operations manager for ground operations. After a very successful career with FedEx, Roger was presented with an opportunity to become a dot com traffic manager for C2 Media.com. He later made the decision to relocate back to the Southeast region and chose to make Atlanta his new home.

After taking some time to explore the job market in Atlanta, Roger was employed by American InterContinental University, a worldwide university system, as a student financial services manager.

Survivors include his birth mother, H. Ree (Waymon) Edwards of Florence; stepmother, Hattie Goodman of West Babylon, N.Y.; two brothers, Raymond (Natalie) Goodman Jr. of Charlotte and Reginald (Neetza) Cottrell of Snellville, Ga.; two sisters, Renee (Barry) Byers of Englewood, N.J., and Felicia (Derek) Weathers of West Babylon; four aunts, with whom he was raised with as sisters, Lula (Arthur) M. Burch, Betty (Pete) Mitchell, Margaret G. Hogan and Thomasena Goodman, all of Lynchburg; one uncle, with whom he was raised with as a brother, Thomas (Louise) Goodman Jr. of Lynchburg; three additional aunts; two additional uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Barr, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Goodman cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Friday.

The family is receiving friends at the family's residence, 4770 Narrow Paved Road, Lynchburg.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

LEROY PRICE Jr.

Leroy Price Jr., 61, husband of Ossie Mae McClam Price, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter County on June 17, 1944, he was the son of the late Leroy Price Sr. and the late Ada Ruth Price. He received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Lincoln High School in Sumter. He was employed at Williams Furniture Co. while in high school. His other careers of employment included Broad Street Cleaners and the South Carolina Department of Corrections. While employed with the Department of Corrections, he received numerous awards for outstanding service. After retiring from the South Carolina Department of Corrections, he enjoyed time with family and friends and turned to his hobby and love of barbeque. He loved, honored and cherished the special relationship he shared with his wife, Ossie.

He leaves to cherish loving memories his wife of 38 years, Ossie Mae McClam Price; a loving daughter, Isabella M. Thomas of West Columbia; seven brothers, Charlie (Anneliese) of Giessen, Germany, Leroy McFadden of Vauxhall, N.J., Thomas Lee (Annie), Marion (Barbara), James, Titus and Gerald, all of Sumter; five sisters, Dorothy C. Herriott of Scotch Plains, N.J., Betty P. Williamson of Greensboro, N.C., Cynthia D. Smith, Thelma P. Brunson (Steve) of Sumter, and SFC Velma A. Price of Fort Hood, Texas; a grandson, Steven Maurice (Rose) of Seattle; two granddaughters, Michelle Denise Jackson of Sumter and Laura Edith Thomas of Austell, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother-in-law, Archie McClam (Rebecca) of Baltimore; two sisters-in-law, Joanna McClam of Sumter and Alberta Powell of Lake City; a goddaughter, Jamelle Williamson; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 805 S. Harvin St., with the Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton officiating, assisted by Ministers Ricky S. Simmons, Irene Anthony, Nathan A. McClennon and Samuel Graham.

Burial will follow in the Hillside Memorial cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. for viewing until the hour of service. There will be no viewing after the service.

Pallbearers and floral bearers will be friends of the family.

The family is receiving family and friends at the home at 76 McCormick Drive.

Scriven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MILDRED I. SHIRLEY

MT. VERNON, Ill. -- Mildred I. Shirley, 82, formerly of Sumter, widow of Lee Roy Shirley, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in Mt. Vernon.

Services will be announced by the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter.

RICHARD MILLER

BISHOPVILLE -- Richard Miller died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at his home, 414 Cousar St., Bishopville.

Born in Lee County April 25, 1945, he was a son of the late Richard Miller and Essie William Miller.

He attended the public schools of Lee County. After high school, he moved to Paterson, N.J. He moved back to Lee County in 1963.

Survivors include his companion, Lillie Cook; two brothers, Sammie Miller and Isaac (Martha) Miller of Bishopville; six sisters, Sarah Turner and Jannie Miller of Bishopville, Barbara (Jessie) Hyatt of Parsippany, N.J., Irene (Kelly) McDonald and Gussie Boyd of Paterson, N.J., and Gertrude Miller of Philadelphia; three stepchildren, Linda Cunningham of Omaha, Neb., Rosa Cook and Robert Cook of Camden, N.J., a special niece he raised, Ebony (Jackson) Damon of Bishopville; four aunts, Sarah Spann, Martha Lovely, Shirley Williams, and Mary Lee Johnson.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Vernon Holland, pastor, and the Rev. Julia Sanders will officiate. The eulogist will be the Rev. Jimmy Miller. Burial will follow in McCutcheon cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 414 Cousar St.

Square Deal Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

ISABELLE G. GREEN

Isabelle Grant Green, 57, of Sumter died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, in Tuomey Health Care System.

She was born July 15, 1947, in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Joseph Gadson and Frances Grant Green and the adopted daughter of Lamberts Green Sr.

At an early age she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Hopewell Baptist Church. She was very studious and excelled academically in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated with honors from Lincoln High School with the class of 1966. She furthered her education at Central Carolina Technical College where she received a certificate in bookkeeping and accounting. She later attended the University of South Carolina, where she pursued a degree in nursing.

Survivors include a son, Kelvin Green of Sumter; a daughter, Senora Green-Little (Steve) of Sumter; four brothers, Lambert Green Jr. of Sumter, James (Henretta) Gadson and John (Shelly Brooks) Gadson, both of Wedgefield and William (Theresa) Gadson of New Jersey; two sisters, Meriam (Buttom) Gadson of Wedgefield and Debra (Missy) Gadson of Sumter.; and four grandchildren.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday from the New Israel Missionary Baptist Church, 5800 Catchall Road, Dalzell. The Rev. Dr. D.L. Grant Sr., pastor and eulogist assisted by the Rev. Keith Winfrey will officiate.

Pall bearers will be granddaughters, family and friends.

Floral bearers will be cousins.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Senora Green and Steven Little, 455 New Castle Street, Sumter.

Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CARRIE LEE M. JOHNSON

Carrie Lee McBride Johnson, the daughter of the late Alex McBride and Mary Lawson McBride, was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Summerton. She departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at her home after an illness.

She was united in matrimony to the late Robert Lee Johnson on May 14, 1944. She was educated in the public schools of South Carolina. Carrie Lee and her family moved to New York in 1955. Mrs. Johnson was a strong and beautiful woman. She was admired and deeply loved by all she came in contact with. She was employed by the Board of Education for New York for 36 years.

Loving and fond memories will be cherished by nine children, Marion Jeanette Beatty of Queens, N.Y., Mary Johnson Moore of Jamaica, N.Y., Maxine Johnson Bridges of Bronx, N.Y., Robert Lee (Kathyleen) Johnson Jr. of Bronx, Helen B. Johnson Greer of Chicago, Ill., Luvenia E. Johnson of Bronx, Kenneth (Cindy) N. Johnson of Bronx, Anthony (Loretta) Johnson of Fayetteville, N.C., Andrea (Barbara) Johnson of Sumter; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Local services for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Revival Temple Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, 460 Lee St., Sumter, with Elder Richard McGowan officiating.

Owens Funeral Home, 1152 Nostrand Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y., (718) 467-9546, will conduct services and interment will follow in Rose Hill cemetery, Linden, N.J.

The funeral procession will leave the home, 749 Warley St., at 12:20 p.m.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 749 Warley St.

HAROLD LEVY

BRONX, N.Y. -- Harold "Porky" Levy, 53, died Feb. 8, 2005, at Bronx Lebanon Hospital.

Born June 9, 1951, in Sumter, he was a son of the late David and Maggie B. Levy. At an early age, he attended the St. Jude Catholic Church and Grammar School. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1971. He also received a degree in welding from Central Carolina Technical College, formerly known as Sumter Area Technical College.

Survivors include three sisters, Connie (James) Jackson of Columbia, Cynthia (Smily) Myers and Linder Ann Cabbagestalk; nine brothers, David Levy, Lynwood Levy, Patrick (Deborah) Levy and Wade Brunson, all of Sumter, Issac (Florence) Levy of Fayetteville, N.C., James (Edna) Levy and John (Sherroll) Levy, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Richard Levy and Joseph (Dorla) Levy, both of Laurelton, N.Y.; two aunts, Elizabeth Evans and Charlotte Muldrow, both of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Deloris Brunson of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Brunson and Anthony Cabbagestalk.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Job's Mortuary, 312 S. Main St., Sumter. Burial will be in Dicks cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia and Smily Myers, 27 Shuler Drive.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES DONOSA

Charles "Charlie" Donosa, age 86, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Donosa was born in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late Leopold and Christina Ballek Donosa. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran, serving during World War II. He was a retired security guard of Santee Print and was a self-employed contractor.

Survivors are one son, Michael Pienkowski and his two children of Philadelphia; a loving extended family; a daughter-in-law, Nettie Nobles of Sumter; two grandsons, Richard "Rick" Ferst of Sumter and Gregory Ferst of Virginia Beach, Va.; a granddaughter, Teresa Ferst Pierson of Sumter; and a lifelong friend, Joe Ferst of Norristown, Pa.; a nephew and three nieces, John, Nancy, Jeanne and Carol; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Gill.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Buddy Griffin officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Nettie Nobles.

Memorials may be made to the Sumter cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, 700 W. Oakland Ave., Sumter, SC 29150.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

ERNEST G. SINGLETARY

LAKE CITY -- Ernest Gene Singletary, 51, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Carolinas Hospital System, Florence.

He was born April 4, 1953, in Florence County.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Naomia and Robert Burgess, 608 N. Old Georgetown Road, Lake City, SC 29560.

Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home of Lake City.

DORIS M. CAMPBELL

MANNING -- Doris McCabe Campbell, 87, widow of James E. Campbell, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Mariner East of Sumter.

Born Aug. 14, 1917, in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Edward A. and Annie Thames McCabe. She was retired from Manning Manufacturing and was a member of Manning First Baptist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Marianne Floyd of Gable, Janice Brunson and husband, Don, of Sumter, Gem Davis and husband, Jeff, of Sumter, Glenn Beatson and husband, Martin, of Manning; six sisters, Rounette Chewning and Edna Lowder of Manning, Erma Prescott of Sumter, Merceline Richburg of Moncks Corner, Deraldine McCabe of West Columbia, and Betty Roof of Virginia Beach; 10 grandchildren, Bill Floyd, David Floyd, Lynn Wallace, Lisa DuRant, Jay Davis, Jennie Fry, Kristie Newman, Marty, Gregg and Sara Lyn Beatson; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Manning First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert Louis Alderman officiating.

Burial will follow in Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery in Alcolu.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence of Marianne Floyd, 14258 N. Brewington Road, Gable.

Memorials may be made to Manning First Baptist Church, 49 W. Boyce St., Manning, SC 29102, or to a charity of one's choice.
