DANIEL W. RICHARDSON

KINGSTREE -- Daniel W. "D.W." Richardson, 60, owner of Redmond and Richardson Funeral Home of Kingstree and co-owner of Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home of Lake City, husband of Myra Johnson Richardson, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Carolinas Hospital System, Florence.

Born Sept. 22, 1944, in Springlake, N.C., he was a son of the late Watkins Richardson and Ethel Morris Richardson.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 104 N. Brooks St., Kingstree.

Services will be announced by Redmond and Richardson Funeral Home of Kingstree.

EVELYN C. ALLEN

Evelyn Coward Allen, 77, wife of Julian B. Allen, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at her home.

Born in Ware Shoals, she was a daughter of the late David Lee Coward and the late Ruth Taylor Coward. Mrs. Allen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy and received her master's degree in adult education from the University of South Carolina. She was formerly employed by Sumter School District No. 17.

Surviving are her husband of Sumter; four daughters, Julie Allen of Sumter, Katie A. Hutchens and husband, Dr. Thomas P. Hutchens, of Bismarck, N.D., Beth A. Edwards of Sumter and Janie A. Kirkland and husband, Steve Kirkland, of Chapin; six grandchildren, Lauren Edwards, Allen Edwards, Dan Hutchens, Elizabeth Hutchens, Sarah Talley and Will Talley.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Taylor officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Easter Seal Society, Cerebral Palsy Foundation, P.O. Box 128, Columbia, SC 29202-0128 or to Friends of the Library, in care of the Sumter County Library, 111 N. Harvin St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

MAUREEN B. ROBBINS

Maureen Buckley Robbins, 58, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Henry Buckley and the late Regina Holtz Buckley. She was employed as a waitress at Fire Mountain.

Survivors include two daughters, Gina Brown and her husband, George, and Briana Robbins, all of Sumter; one sister, Diane Pernesiglio of Long Island, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Ariana Brown and Laney Brown; two nephews, Derek Pernesiglio of Charlotte, N.C., and Peter Pernesiglio of Long Island, N.Y.; and one niece, Robyn Pernesiglio of Las Vegas, Nev.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Costadoni officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Briana's College Fund, c/o Sumter Bible Church, 420 S. Pike West, Sumter, SC 29150.

HERMAN D. FLOYD

Herman David Floyd, age 70, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Chapel of Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta with burial in the New Piney Grove Church cemetery, Lake City.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Floyd was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Donnie T. Floyd and Geneva Conyers Floyd. He was a retired welder with the B.L. Montague Co.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Floyd; four brothers, Hubert Floyd, Perlon Floyd, Lonnie Floyd and Doris Floyd; and two sisters, Vera Parker and Laudena Floyd.

He is survived by his son, Herman David (Courtney) Floyd Jr. of Turbeville; a sister, Wilma Parker of Sumter; and five grandchildren, Brandi Floyd, Hannah Pappas, D.J. Pappas, Haley Floyd and McKenzie Floyd.

ALMERTA M. STEWART

LYNCHBURG -- Almerta Morris Stewart, age 84, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at her home, after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Lynchburg with burial in the Lynchburg Presbyterian Church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at 1494 S.C. 341 S., Lynchburg, SC 29080.

Mrs. Stewart was born in Clarendon County, a daughter of the late John E. Morris and Exie Baird Morris. She was a 40-year retired employee from Sonoco Products Co. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lynchburg, the Old Timers Club, and the ladies adult Sunday school class of the church. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chalmers Stewart, and a sister, Ruth (Willard) Bell.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Jack) McElveen of Lynchburg; a son, Charles "Buddy" (Shelia) Stewart of College Park, Ga.; a brother, James Thompson (Sondra) Morris of Columbia; a granddaughter, Renee (Gee) Crenshaw of Lynchburg; one great-grandson, Jason Crenshaw of Little River; two nieces; a nephew; and a special caregiver of many years, Judy Davis.

The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Lynchburg, P.O. Box 188, Lynchburg, SC 29080 or Southern Care Hospice, 217 Dozier Blvd., Suite 201, Florence, SC 29501.

RALPH McFADDEN

Ralph "Red" McFadden, 64, died Feb. 22, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 12, 1940, in Lee County.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Algia and James McCray, 1317 Covent Garden.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

THOMAS W. RILEY

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Thomas William Riley, 79, husband of Gloria Riley, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Born Aug. 1, 1926, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Acie Riley and Alice Magwood Riley.

COLUMBIA -- Frances Grant Abbott, 60, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at her home.

Services will be announced by the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter.

LOIS W. ROSEBERRY

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Lois Hattie White Roseberry, 72, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning.

WILLIAM R. FRIERSON Sr.

William Robert Frierson Sr., 82, husband of Julia Evans Frierson, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at Sterling House.

Born in Charleston, he was a son of the late Joseph Terrell Frierson and the late Elise Lesesne Frierson and grew up in the Mouzon community of Williamsburg County.

Mr. Frierson was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and served as a Navy medic in the South Pacific Theater at the Battle of Guadalcanal. He was a retired salesman with American Bakeries Co. and a member of American Legion Post No. 15.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, W. Robert Frierson Jr. and wife, Suzanne, of Columbia and Dr. Richard L. Frierson of Columbia; a brother, J. Francis Frierson of Columbia; a sister, Elizabeth Dickert of Greenwood; two grandchildren, William R. Frierson III and Sam Frierson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Taylor and the Rev. Brad Gray officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 226 W. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.

FRANKLIN D. SINGLETON

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Franklin D. Singleton, 65, departed this life Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at St. Anthony Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late William and Susan Holiday Singleton.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma W. Singleton of the home; two sons, Michael (Felecia) Singleton and Franklin D. Singleton Jr., both of St. Petersburg; three daughters, Cynthia (Anthony) Brooks and Rosalyn (Abner) Brown, both of St. Petersburg, and Susan (Charles) Jenkins of Titusville, Fla.; two brothers, Louis Singleton of Sumter and Maris (Dorothy) Singleton of Pinewood; three sisters, Amelia Saunders, Elanora Baxter and Minnie Ida Boyd, all of Pinewood; a niece that was reared in the home with him, Matilda Hampton of Pinewood.

Services will be held at noon Saturday at South Side Tabernacle Baptist Church, St. Petersburg.

FRANCES G. ABBOTT

COLUMBIA -- Frances Grant Abbott, 60, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at her home.

Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late John E. Grant and the late Frances McLaurin Grant. Mrs. Abbott was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sumter and the League of Women Voters. She served as co-chairman during the formation of the Green House, home for troubled youth. She was a former teacher with Sumter school districts 17 and 2 and Thomas Sumter Academy and was also formerly employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Co.

Surviving are a son, Dr. William Benjamin Abbott III of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter, Susan Abbott Butler and husband, Joseph W. Butler, of Sumter; two brothers, John E. Grant Jr. of Columbia and Henry Grant of La Crescenta, Calif.; and a grandchild, Joseph Collin Butler.

Private graveside services will be held at the Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Zane Moore officiating.

Memorials may be made to the United Way, 215 N. Washington St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to the National Mental Health Association, 2001 N. Beauregard St., 12th Floor, Alexandria, VA 22311.

PARRIS E. DAVIS

Parris Eugene Davis died Feb. 22, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born April 4, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son and third child of Elouise Pringle Davis and the late James Davis.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his aunt, Idell Kingwood, 1853 Roach Road, Sumter.

Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter.
