WARREN SINGLETON

Warren Singleton, 1500 Illery Road, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his mother, Mamie Singleton, 1500 Illery Road, and the home of his wife, Mary Singleton, James Village Apartments No. 43.

Plans will be announced by Community Funeral Home of Sumter.

HARDY T. BAKER

MANNING -- Hardy Timothy Baker, 91, widower of Inez Foster Baker, died Feb. 24, 2005, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born July 5, 1913, in the Union Crossroad section of New Zion, he was a son of the late Grant Baker and Lou Alice Burgess Baker.

The family will receive friends at his former residence, 1845 Little Star Road, Manning.

ROBERT LEE SHELTON Sr.

Robert Lee Shelton Sr., age 69, beloved husband of Ruth P. Thompson Shelton, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Erwin, Tenn., the son of the late Herbert Knox and Ethel Tipton Shelton.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home.

RUSSELL N. McCOY Jr.

SANTEE -- Russell Norman McCoy Jr., 81, husband of Bobbie Collins McCoy, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory in Manning.

WALTER L. GERALD Jr.

Walter Leslie Gerald Jr., age 84, husband of the late Virginia Kunde Gerald, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Providence Northeast in Columbia.

Mr. Gerald was born in San Antonio, Texas, the son of the late Walter Leslie Gerald Sr. and Alma Canady Gerald. He was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1945, and a retired major with the U.S. Air Force, serving as a fighter pilot during the Korean Conflict. He taught ROTC at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, and after retirement taught high school at Sumter High School for 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 15, and former scoutmaster at Aldersgate Troop No. 349, and an avid golfer. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Survivors are two sons, Walter Canady Gerald and his wife, Cynthia, of Taylors and James Boyd Gerald of Columbia; a sister, Mary Jane Gerald Salter of Burlington, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Walt Gerald and Nick Gerald of Taylors.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Betty Gerald Wise.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Sumter with the Rev. Dr. Louis Jamison officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church "Building Improvement Fund, " 211 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

HENRY P. COTE

SEBASTIAN, Fla. -- Henry Phillip Cote, 80, widower of Martha Ann Cote, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at the Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian, Fla.

Born in Plaistow, N.H., he was a son of the late Eugene Albert Cote and the late Ida Cote. Mr. Cote was a retired U.S. Air Force World War II veteran.

Surviving are two daughters, Sheree Povich and husband, Jim, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Sheila Cote of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a brother, Richard Cote of New Hampshire; a sister, Cecile Balovre of New Hampshire; and two granddaughters, Brooke Povich and Jamie Povich.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Whitehead officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

LEVI BROWN Sr.

BISHOPVILLE -- Funeral services for Levi Brown, Sr., age 93, who died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, will be held Monday at 3 p.m. from the Chapel Norton Funeral Home. The Revs. B.R. Wallace and Nathaniel Brown will officiate.

Burial will be in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Brown was born in Lee County, a son of the late Davis T. and Mattie Dority Brown. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, a retired farmer and retired supervisor of Georgia Pacific Furniture Co.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Minnie Lou Brown; four sons, Levi (Bud) wife Setsuko Brown, Jr., John Aaron and wife Gloria Brown, the Rev. Nathaniel and wife Carleen Brown, all of Bishopville, Timothy and wife Glenda Brown, Marion, N.C.; a daughter, Martha Dell and husband Olin Boykin, Bishopville; a brother, Samuel C. Brown, Charleston; sisters, Leila Corbett, Bishopville, Jeanette Raybon and Dora Lee Smith, both of Cassatt; 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother David (Bubba) Brown and a sister Lottie Boykin.

JAMES A. LLOYD

ALCOLU -- James Albert "Boote" Lloyd, 43, companion of Cynthia Ceasar, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Barnhill Lane, Alcolu.

Born July 21, 1961, in the Cypress Fork section of Clarendon County, he was a son of Jimmie Lloyd and the late Queen Elizabeth Harrison Lloyd. He received his formal education at Manning Training School. In his youth, he joined Howard Chapel AME Church, New Zion.

Survivors besides his companion, Cynthia Ceasar of the home, and father, Jimmie Lloyd of Alcolu, include four children he reared as his own, Schanonia Ceasar and Sheridan Ceasar, both of the home, William Crowder and Craig Crowder, both of Baltimore, Md.; four brothers, Clayton Smalls of New Zion, Stacey Lloyd of Turbeville, Robert (Betty) Lloyd of Alcolu and Marvin (Marcia) Lloyd of Lithonia, Ga.; four sisters, Mary (Hugh) Evans, Patricia Lloyd, Shantella Lloyd, all of Turbeville, and Raefod Ann Lloyd of Alcolu; and a grandchild, Jaquan Porter of the home.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Howard Chapel AME Church, Old Manning Road, New Zion, with the Rev. Edward Roberts, pastor, the Rev. Legatha McFadden officiating, assisted by the Rev. Eddie Mayes. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Floral bearers will be nieces.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Raefod Ann Lloyd, 1363 Barnhill Lane, off of South Brewington Road, Alcolu.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

WARREN SINGLETON

Warren Singleton, the husband of Mrs. Mary Ann Porter Singleton, born Oct. 8, 1960, in Clarendon County. The son of Mrs. Mamie Singleton and the late David Singleton, Sr., died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. A 1978 graduate of Mayewood High School, he worked at Carolina Furniture for 21 years and was presently employed at Martin Color Fi.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife Mrs. Mary Ann Porter Singleton of the home, his mother Mrs. Mamie Singleton of Sumter; a stepdaughter Melinda Porter of Sumter; five brothers, David Singleton, Jr., Harry (Jennifer) Singleton, Terry Green, Eric Simon, all of Sumter, and Greg Singleton of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Coretta (Kenneth) Glover of Sumter; and four step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, in Faith Enterprise Church, 1018 Manning Road, Sumter, at 3:30 p.m., with the Elder Dr. Emerald Glover, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mulberry Baptist Church cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 751 N. Main St., Apt. 43, Sumter.

Funeral procession will leave from the same address at 2:45 p.m.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES YOUNG

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- James "Jimmy" Young, 56, husband of Barbara Home Young, died Feb. 20, 2005, in Philadelphia.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of William David Young Sr. and the late Ruth Ethel Young. He was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. He was raised as a Christian and loved the Lord very much. At the age of 14, he became interested in boxing and pursued it with a passion. This pursuit led him to become an amateur boxer. At the age of 18, he became a professional. He had been an opponent of such greats as Ron Lyles, Ernie Shavers, George Foreman and Muhammad Ali for the title of heavyweight champion of the world. James was an energetic and fun-loving person who made all who knew him laugh. He was indeed our champion. His unique sense of humor and unending generosity was trademark of the love he felt for all.

Survivors include five children, Eileen, Juanita, James Jr., Mickey and Jason; three brothers, William, Gregory and Matthew; five sisters, Machel, Ruthie, Denise, Robyn and Dahlia; and 10 grandchildren.

A wake service will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. today at Greater Bethel Temple.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today from the Greater Bethel Temple, 4610 Tackawanna St., Philadelphia, with the pastor serving as eulogist.

Burial will be in Mt. Peace cemetery, Philadelphia.

The family will receive friends at the home, 5649 Appletree St., Philadelphia.

Jack's Funeral Home, 1403 N. Franklin St., Philadelphia, is in charge of these arrangements.

JOSEPH MILLER

Joseph Miller, 80, the son of the late Paul Miller and Sarah Louise Washington Miller and the husband of the late Addie Mae Wright, was called to rest from his labors quietly on Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Juanita Miller.

He attended the public schools of Clarendon County and was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a devoted daughter, Juanita Miller (Roosevelt Levy) of Sumter; three sisters, Mamie M. Blackwell, Robell M. Billups and Annie Ruth M. Pringle, all of Manning; five grandchildren, Carolyn Miller (Ronald Junious), Pamela Miller, Shonda Miller, Tamika Miller and Edward Miller all of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, eight brothers and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fourth Cross Road Baptist Church in Manning with the Rev. Dr. Leon Wynn and the Rev. G.K. Carter officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his daughter, Juanita Miller, 1009 Vaughn St.

The funeral procession will leave at 2:45 p.m. from the same address.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JOSEPH A. COLEMAN III

FLORENCE -- Joseph Andrew Coleman III, 28, died Feb. 25, 2005.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, in the Chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Mr. Coleman was born in Florence County the son of Jay Coleman of Florence and Margaret Ward Heilman of Florence. He was a graduate of Hudgens Academy and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Lynchburg, S.C. Mr. Coleman was a firestop installer with Carolina Insulation and was previously employed by Smurfit-Stone Container for eight years.

Surviving are his parents of Florence; a brother, Lee Coleman (Beth), of Florence; maternal grandfather, Jesse Lee Ward III, Oates; maternal great grandmother, Cornelia Ward, Lamar; paternal grandparents, Elbert and Carolyn Coleman, Lynchburg. Also, he was survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, 4210 W. Palmetto St., Florence, S.C.
